Lunch specials can fill you up without breaking the bank. Griot, or fried pig chunks, is their most well-known and traditional food. It's flavorful and a little oily, but you can add some pikliz, our Haitian chili sauce, and it will absorb it all, especially when served with rice, salad, and fried bananas or tostones. Stopped in around 5:30pm on a Saturday night and were surprised to find the front door locked with a doorbell there to ring. Not sure if it's just a rough neighborhood, but we were clearly the first eat-in clients of the afternoon/evening. The hostess said they could accommodate our group of 7 and so we did end up staying, but our group had to do all the rearranging of tables, high chairs, and table wipe downs which was strange. Overall the service was just OK. One of our dishes didn't come out with the others which was unfortunate as everyone was done eating when it finally did come out. One nice thing was they prepared small plates of fries and ketchup for our youngest boys who weren't interested in the Caribbean fare offered. The food and presentation was nice, but seemed to be very overcooked and dry. Perhaps just an off-night for the staff. So flavorful with huge portions and lovely service! Every Caribbean place I've tried offers fried plantains with their dishes but they've always been too sweet. This place does their plantains right! It wasn't sweet but more savory. It was perfectly fried: so crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside with minimal sweetness. I ordered creole chicken while my friend ordered jerk chicken and it was a little dry but the flavor made up for it. Will definitely be returning to try their other dishes. read more

This restaurant is probably difficult to locate under the best of times. It was particularly difficult for us because we were not from the area, driving after dark, and the sign for the strip mall is broken (possibly a casualty of Hurricane Irma?) In addition, the restaurant does not have a lighted sign of its own and is sandwiched between an unopened Montessori school on the right and another yet-to-open business on the left. It's worth looking for. You open the doors to a boldly colorful Caribbean interior and the heady odor of rich spices. The food is incredible; my husband said of the roast pork that it was enough to make a person who keeps kosher go treif. Alas, his beef stew turned out to be spicy, so I had to swap the delectable pork for his still-delicious but not quite as heavenly stew. If we were ever back in Homestead, we would definitely go back. 4/16/2019 We're back! We both ordered the fried pork (pork griot). The ranch salad dressing was on the side, as was sauce for the rice/pork. Unfortunately, the one extra that *should* have been on the side was not: pikliz, a sort of Caribbean kim chee or spicy sauerkraut topped the meat. In addition to providing unnecessary (and in our case unwanted) hot spiciness and vinegar, it also rendered the delicately crunchy meat cubes soggy. The fried pork was still tasty, but not as wonderful as on our first visit. We splurged on guava (him) and papaya (me) shakes ($6) which were sugary and milky, with a light real-fruit flavor. The guava was a bit better; the papaya reminded me a bit of dried papaya, but this might because the variety of papaya I'm used to is not the type grown around here. FWIW, although the window coverings now make the restaurant easy to find once you're in the strip mall, the mall remains tricky to find because its sign is still broken and unlit. Subtracting one star for not putting the pikliz on the side and leisurely (though warm and friendly) service, which resulted in my husband drinking my water in addition to his own + first refill. read more

I am convinced that they are removing anything below 3 stars because we waited 1h30min for our food and they served food that was just okay. I ordered the oxtail and there were so much raw onion in it that I couldn't comfortably enjoy the rich soup or pour it onto the rice without picking out raw onions. Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think onions should be thrown into a stew that has been cooking for hours. Furthermore the the oxtail wasnt fully cooked and was extremely chewy and wasnt edible Also ordered coffee. Thought it would be some Cuban coffee or something special for the price but it tasted like cheap coffee with coffee mate French vanilla creamer. And we waited coz she was cooking and blending our ordered shake at the back. My sister and I got the oxtail stew. The meat was so soft. The flavor was not overwhelming it was just right and tasty. The potatoes and carrots were cooked perfect. My 11 year old niece tasted it and took my food after she finished a plate of chicken with fries. We also ordered a separate plate of chicken wings and was empty in less than 5 minutes. If we weren't on a time schedule she wanted to order another plate of oxtail just for herself. You could drive past this place for years and never know it was here. I've been here twice and have to say that both times... the food is amazing. There may not be much ambience, but it is very clean inside and run by a very nice woman who makes these home cooked meals that will have your stomach smiling long after you walk out the door. This is a family owned restaurant. We got her on a Saturday night @ 9:45p, 15 mins before the close to meet some friends here. The family was welcoming and allowed us to still order, sit down and eat with our friends that we haven't seen in a while. After looking at the menu I was not able to decide on what I wanted between the fried red snapper and the jerk chicken. So I ended up ordering both w/ the Jerk Chicken to go. And I tell you, the food here was amazing. In my mind I thought that the red snapper was boneless fillet chunks. But NOOOOOO it was the whole fish with the eye balls... I was instantaneously hit with fear because 1) I just started eating fish about 5 yrs ago, 2) The idea of a fish with eyes looking back at you while you're eating it doesn't seem right... 3) It was just weird... Nevertheless, I put my fears aside and was overcome by hunger and my love for Caribbean food. To be honest, I didn't even know how to attach(eat) the fish once they set it down in front of me. But I managed, and a brother that I met there gave me some wisdom, to just go at the middle. And I tell you...Like the old gospel hymn...Go Tell it on the mountain !!!! That was probably the best tasting fish I ever had. There was so much flavor and moisture... It was a great first experience...( I'm not saying I will do it again...) Visited based on Yelp reviews. I walked in and was created immediately. Today is Mother's Day in the Caribbean and Ms Deana, owner, was giving away single roses to mothers and gave me one anyway which was nice. She also presented me with a slice of carrot cake (given an option of this or a chocolate cake), with a candle; such a nice gesture. Ms Deana was an awesome, welcoming and genuinely nice lady. As an owner you can tell she takes pride in her establishment and the superb quality of her food. Also, it is obvious customer satisfaction with the food and atmosphere of the restaurant was important. I order the jerk chicken, macaroni au gratin, plantains and white rice. The portion size was substantial and the flavor was spicy and delicious. The chicken was very tender, literally fell off the bone. The dish was made with fresh peppers which added to the visual appearance and the flavor. Please support local businesses and stop in and get a taste of authentic Caribbean food with great hospitality. We talked for a few mins and she even recommended places to visit in the local area. My family and I first visited the restaurant during the Memorial Day weekend holiday. Thanks to a general Yelp search for "Caribbean Restaurants"...O'Deeny's came up and we are always down to try new places. There were Roses on her counter and she me one and explained that it's Mother's Day in Haiti. What an awesome exchange! She explained that they have been opened for (4) months! I wished her well and much success and told her, "Today we will be adding to that success"...she was quite happy. We love great Haitian Food. She explained that they are a Haitian/Jamaican restaurant. So we ordered the Griot (Seasoned Fried Pork) the Creole Rice (Red Beans) and their Conch Fritters. We took the food to eat in the comfort of our home. It was delicious!! Before I left, I told her I'll be back to try her Oxtail and her Haitian Black Rice (rip djon djon). Everyone needs a Haitian friend; or go to a good Haitian restaurant to try some good Black Rice!! Rice is colored and flavored from the mushroom that is only found Haiti. It's delicious!! To start off, we did not get our waters or menus until we sat at a table for 15mins. There was only one other table besides ours waiting to be served and the dining area wasn't busy...so no excuse to make us wait 15 mins to just get a menu. Once ordered we waited another lengthy 45mins for our food and saying it is mediocre is being generous. I ordered oxtail and I don't know what kind of cooking the owner is doing but I'm sure you don't serve raw onions in an oxtail stew. The oxtail wasn't cooked through and fatty gelatinous bits were so tough that it was not even edible. The small bits were so well done that it was literally falling apart. My partner ordered the platter and the items on there would have gotten a 3/5 if I were to rate them totally separately but to wait an hour for a 1/5 and a 3/5 plate? No thank you not coming back again. Also half of the things on the menu or advertised is NOT available eg Goat creole and Cow Feet Soup that we wanted to try out originally.
