It's clean and the beds are decent but the service is terrible half the time I go in there. Most of the girls working seem annoyed that I would bother them by coming in and are very unfriendly. My membership got automatically transferred to them from Ultimate Beach last year... I will definitely be canceling my membership soon. read more

Extremely poor customer service. The girl at the counter asked me 3 times if it was my first time. I said I just wanted to do a single tan (not buy packages) and she continued to talk about memberships. I was looking to spend around $40 but she kept pushing for me to get a higher level bed $60+ per session and insisted that if I signed up for a monthly membership, it would be cheaper. However, the start up cost would be $150. UGH SERIOUSLY, I just want to tan, stop trying to up sell me on something I don't want. She had a serious attitude and super annoying. Very poor customer service. Exceedingly rude. Everytime I go in there they try to sell me expensive tanning oil. Today a young lady informed me "it was dangerous to tan without their oil." Seriously? Complete garbage. I expect to cancel my membership the next time I stop by. No doubt the staff are either receiving commission for oil sales or there is a quota. I think everyone knows the risks associated with tanning. I am aware of the dangers health-wise, but I had a major t-shirt tan going on, and I wanted to fix it. So I tried laying out on my roof, but got gawked at by the neighbors and also couldn't, eh-hem, prevent tan lines. So I do tan a little, but not for the full time, only about 7 min. I also go to Palm Beach because they have an alternative, and it's totally UV-free: The Mystic spray booth. They provide everything, from hair cover to lip balm. The staff is great and they typically keep the place very neat and clean. Sam or Samantha is a fantastic asset to this shop and was very helpful, bright, and friendly. She did my membership and quickly+clearly communicated the points and prices of their services, the differences between the beds and sprays, then walked over to show me how to use the Mystic tan booth. Piece of advice: Get a monthly tanning plan- don't do individuals. I don't know if I should feel guilty about have an approx. $90/month tanning plan, but hey, I deserve to do things for myself. The way the pricing is structured, they make it not worth it to buy individual spray tans, at around $40. But if you go in once a week, it's worth it. You might even go more frequently than once a week, as a spray tan wears off on me in about 4 days, and is almost gone in 7, so my value better, but I could also use the UV beds every day if I wanted. If you've never gotten a Mystic before, I can tell you it's so much better results than using self-tanner at home. I have spent $65 on bottles of the best self-tanners out there (Clarins, Fake Bake, Look Good Naked, Neutrogena, L'Oreal), I've tried self-tanner mits, sprays, and they still do not compare to the color and evenness of the Mystic. Spray tans make your skin look more bronzed, even-toned, cover up any imperfections you may have, and can even make you look thinner. And it's safe, so with my fair skin, I'm all for it. My only complaint would be either missing things in the room (like no hair nets, but no biggie I wrapped the towel around my head) that even with spending $90 a month here, you will have to pay for any little extra-- such as: tan extender additive, scents in the tanner, or bronzing. As far as other reviews that mention being 'harassed' about buying lotion, quit yo whinin'. If this annoys you, as a customer you have to be assertive about what you want or don't want. Be direct, or else how are they supposed to know you dislike them just trying to do their job. I'm sure that if you politely said "I'm not currently interested in any sort of lotions or products, and please put a note in my file that I'd prefer not to be asked anymore, thanks," I'm sure they'd comply with that. Truth is, UV tanning dries out the skin, and certain lotions DO benefit your skin and your tan. A lot of the lotions smell great and the one I got is good. As a customer-service (dog training, dog boarding care) business owner myself, the staff should know that you have to be delicate without being too pushy. Staff should say something by phrasing it as if they were offering to do them a helpful favor "Would you like me to explain some of the benefits of are lotions to you?" Now either the customer will say 1) No, that's ok. (end of convo!) or 2) Hmm, what do they do? thereby showing some interest in the product and possibly making a sale. But really, yes I do buy lotion from here, and it's good stuff! read more

I have never been pressured into becoming a member here by any of the employees and I really appreciate that, almost makes me just want to join on my own. Everyone who is saying that Ultimate is better, NO way! I was a member there for 6 years. They upped the monthly fees without warning and you still had to pay for any upgrades it was pretty ridiculous! I love to spray tan and have been to more tanning places staffed with gum chomping nitwits than I'd like to count. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into this place at how incredibly professional and friendly the staff was! I dealt with a girl named Bridget,who was extremely helpful when I went in to buy my Mystic package. I dont usually like to get sold on add on products, but their approach was low key. I felt comfortable declining the stuff that I wasnt interested in. Also thought the booths were super clean. Love the free parking. Also love that the Mystic booths are newer and give you four full sprays for the all over tan. Gave it 4 stars only because I think their prices are a tad higher but I'll gladly pay extra for the service. read more

Mediokre service and dirty business practices. I had gone somethimes to ultimate exposure salon and this novemver found out they got closed, palm beach tan bought them and transferred all accounts. Palm beach tan had been charging my credit card for much larger amount without any authorization before I found that out. I had to put those charges in dispute w american express and put block for them for 4 years on my account. I have requested to cancel my account immediately and send me a confirmation within 2 buisness days before suing them. So far they act like a pitiful joke asking me to come in physically for that. I have had multiple negative experiences at this tanning salon (usually with the same manager) and it has finally gotten to be too much. This place is the worst! I spend soo much money for their diamond membership only to be treated like crap. The one manager is so unbelievably rude, unprofessional, and lazy- it blows my mind that she keeps her job. Their beds and different spray machines are all subpar- I would not recommend anyone else waste money at this place. Just visited this location for the first and last time. Went in for a simple level one tan when the lady at the counter rudely told me it 'wouldn't do anything'. Felt pressured into doing a level two bed at double the cost. Went to add on a one time use lotion and couldn't believe the up-charge $20 for a sample pack is crazy. Decided to take the lotion off my total and was again told my tan 'wouldn't do anything without it'. I have been a member of Palm Beach Tan since 2005, when they first opened and have nothing but great things to say about this place. Ok, the prices are a little higher than some other tanning places in the area, but they always have great deals going on in-store and also online. The higher price pays off because the place is so very clean! Like I said before, I have been a member since 2005 and the place looks as it did when they first opened. I am lucky that I got locked in at a good rate. I think it's great that if sign up for one of their unlimited package deals you can put your account on hold for just $5 and not have to pay your full amount the months you know you aren't going to use it. The $5 is put into your "tan dollar" account, which is basically store credit. You can use the "tan dollars" you accumulated towards products, mystic tans, and towards your pro-rated amount when you decide to unlock your account. I've had my account on freeze for a while and just recently unfroze it because I'm going to Mexico and I was able to pay my monthly amount for this month and lotion with the "tan dollars" I accumulated. Seriously, keeping my account frozen is well worth it and $5 out of my checking account is nothing. It's cheaper to keep my account frozen then purchasing per session tans. Again, they always have specials going on, so take that into consideration when you're deciding to purchase tanning per session or your the monthly deal. The staff is very nice and very helpful. If there is any problem they try to find a way to fix it. They also help you find the best deal when purchasing products and packages. They are a little naggy when it comes to selling their lotions and other products, but you can't blame them it's part of their job. I just recently broke down and bought some of their over priced lotions because I had store credit to use up. But, for the past few years I have gotten by using the indoor tanning lotion you can get at Target (Banana Boat or Hawaiian Tropic). You can also find the products they carry at Palm Beach online for cheaper, if they don't have any specials or store credit to use up. Overall, I am very happy with Palm Beach Tan and have referred them to many of my friends! You get some "tan dollars" for every person you refer too! Check it out! read more

Everything is so pricey in that store. The sales people always try to con you into buying something, they also do not tell you when you have free tan dollars on your account--make sure YOU always ask them! The girls that work there are so caddy, they talk about you if you have the slightest of odd questions& laugh in your face---not professional like--& they're pretty much lost when it comes to explaining---seriously who trains them??? They're towel are never clean looking--wonders me if they even use soap...They're beds are so dirty and grimy with other peoples sweat left on them--check the tops of the beds when you lay down in them. I've waited months to write this review, hoping that my billing issue would be fixed by now. Unfortunately, I have had no luck. Long phone calls, two online complaints, and one store visit later, I have still not heard back. Long story short, I signed (what I was told was) a freezing agreement back in March. I later realized they charged me full price and called the store. The manager told me she would talk to billing and call me back, but never did. I then got charged another month. I went into the store and was told again that the manager would call me, but she never did. I cancelled my account for good that day. At this point, I have been charged over $250. The manager has refused to call me back for a billing mistake that she made! I do not recommend this location. I would have given 0 stars if I could! I have been going for three weeks and still cannot go the full time because the beds are so powerful. It is expensive for single visits and the sales associates can be a tad pushy for extra sales. The Clybourn staff are literally the rudest people I have ever met in my life. The store manager Samantha needs an attitude adjustment. I agree with the review by Lisa T. The staff is rude and the up-selling is obnoxious. Here has been my experience..... 1. I typically only purchase spray tans so when they go onsale, I dont mind stocking up, especially when told they expire in a year. When trying to use my remaining tans they tell me they expired in 60 days, which I never would have bought 8 if that was the case. I put up a huge fight and they extended my spray tans for a month. They basically accused me of lying. 2. After I needed to tan for my wedding to remove some tan lines, I insisted I only needed a few. They spent 15 minutes explaining the packages on how the membership would be the best option. I agreed and then they state the "hold" fee of 7.50 a month. I oppose and say I cannot have monthly charges on my credit card for a service I will never us again, I really only want a few tans. Well this apparently upset the entire staff because I was not signing up for membership, The manager and staff gives me the dirtiest look I have ever seen. They acted like they didn't want to serve me bc I wasn't signing up for their stupid membership. 3. Since I am now an informed consumer and realize there tans expire, I inquire specifically on how many I had left and when they expire. They specifically tell me July 13. So I go into the store on July 13 and they tell me my tan has expired. Instead of agreeing to let me tan, they put up a huge fight on how it actually expired on July 12. Then why wouldn't your staff say the last day to use your tan is July 12. I feel like they would rather piss of their clients then treat them with any sort of customer respect. 4. While I was waiting to get my last tan that they finally agreed to let me have, a woman enters and wants to cancel her membership. She spends 15 minutes selling her not to cancel before putting me into my room. Everything they do is rude. I feel like I'm being greeted by fake, disrespectful teenagers every time I enter. I wish I could give this place zero stars. Absolutely terrible and rude employees, I am honestly in awe that the woman helping me can hold a face to face customer service job. I went in and simply requested to tan for the next four days leading to my vacation. I was told I had to get the month membership because it would be cheaper than four single tans. While I wasn't thrilled to do this, I agreed to save myself from paying 30 dollars a session. Then she told me that the lotion I had was WAY to old and would be harmful to my skin (?) and that she knew because she was "an expert in the industry for 4 years". Extremely condescending way to act toward someone trying to give you business. When I asked for a lotion suggestion she showed me a 96 dollar bottle. When I asked for something smaller (because I wanted to go four times), closer to 20 dollars she laughed at me and pointed toward the single use packets (which by the way 20 dollars??). She then suggested I'd be coming back after my vacation, and when I said I wasn't planning on it because it is bad for your skin she laughed with "well using old lotion is bad for your skin too". Again, so rude. I immediately asked them to wipe out all my information and left. As I walked out she said she hoped she wasn't being rude and that any place would be that price. I took my business to LA Tan down the street where I had an enjoyable, helpful, and more affordable experience (they said the lotion I had was their favorite). read more

i had the best experience ever at palm beach tan on clybourn. what made me become a customer was the manager in charge. her name is erin. i loved the fact how i called and she delivered outstanding customer service over the phone. she took her time to answer every question and explained everything to me about tanning. i like how she was very detailed about how the tanning beds worked. also, she educated me on the various spray tanning booths that your company offers. because of her, i am very knowledgeable about tanning and the best options for my skin. erin is an excellent manager. she is very professional, polite and respectful! erin represents the brand exceedingly well! i will always be a loyal customer because of erin! read more

I thought my experience was most pleasant and found the facility quite clean, I also saw the two lovely girls behind the counter interact with several other customers and saw no cause for concern. They were polite, friendly, efficient and most important not pushy to the point of annoying. I did the versa spray tan. My fave, they did tell me about the new, more expensive versa pro, pushed it a smidge, but when I said no thanks, that was the end of it. The only reason that I didn't give five stars is frankly because I found it to be exceedingly expensive. I have been a versa tanner for years and this was more than I have ever paid. If i wasn't going to FL in a few days, I probably would have skipped it. read more

Been tanning here for over 5 years. Not anymore!!! They charged my credit card 2 times at 26.50 for each month for not having a valid card on file. Every person in Chicago had their credit card replaced with Blue chip cards to prevent fraud, the card was send out by Chase.I called corporate & voiced my concerns. The # for Corporate is 866-644-5631. I encourage anyone else this happened to, to call them because several co-workers at my office were charged the 26.50 per month also. I also take issue that they are saying I can only use my tanning dollars to buy their totally overpriced products!!! My tanning dollars are for what ever I want to use them for. Tanning dollars are for when you freeze your account and they debit your card every month when it has a freeze on it. I don't have any issue with the staff or tanning what so ever. But with a City that has a tanning place on every block, I am now taking my business elsewhere!! I would like to mention I'm bummed that Sam is no longer working there, she was FABULOUS!!! read more
