Ew. I've been waiting to review this place until I canceled my membership. To be fair, I don't think it's much worse than any of the other tanning salons I've gone to, but it still sucks. My main gripe is the way they try to sell you on something EVERY time you walk in. "Oh did you know you have enough points to get a discount on this lotion?" And then you go to buy said lotion, and it's still super expensive. I bought a product that the girl made me think was going to be free, and then last minute it wasn't. I just want to tan, without being hounded by some fake sales pitch. Even when I went to cancel my membership, she tried to get me to stay on and pay $7 a month to freeze my account. Haha! Not this time you tanning siren! I did love getting spray tans here, but sometimes the machines were not working. Many other times, water would drip from the top for some reason and ruin my spray tan. For the money I was wasting, I am happy to self tan myself from now on. read more

The worst experience we have ever experienced. Our pre-paid tanning contract was transferred to Palm Beach Tan when our previous location abruptly closed. Besides thos location being inconvenient, the staff was unsure of how to handle our transferred membership. The manager ended up modifying our plan in the system to "make it work". After our contract term expired, and getting used to tge beds at that location, we decided to renew for another year. We have always paid in full for a year. The manager refused to take an all cash, paid in full account. She insisted on is paying monthly. One would think a company would gladly accept a lump some cash payment. After reluctantly agreeing to be billed monthly, the nightmare began. Every month we experienced a problem with billing and our credit card company. The manager would correct the issue and issue a credit for their error. Suddenly, that manager was transferred to a different location. The new manager ended up suspending our account due to a billing issue. Upon review, she said the previous manager was charging us incorrectly, despite us having a contract for the amount we were being charged. She said she spoke with the District Manager (who is the franchise owner) who was adamant about not living up to the valid contract and price we had. This ended up being a horrible experience and we would NEVER recommend this company to anyone! read more

This place is extremely overrated with 3 stars. Very bad service and a woman actually told me I wasn't good enough to tan if I didn't buy a $100 bottle of lotion!! Later on my photography friend said she was out and about and the woman wanted her to take these photos of her and her friends twerking at District bar :o this is how ridiculous these employees are. I sent these photos to corporate to let them know how I was treated terribly by this obviously no class woman. DO NOT enter into a contract with this company! I purchased a spray tan package this summer (2018). Went to the location to cancel at the end of the summer. Thought that was the end of it. Discovered in January (2019) that they have continued to bill my credit card for the past 5 months! That under the radar amount went unnoticed until I was reviewing my bills after the holidays. I went back to stop those payments, have made repeated calls to their customer service # but nobody answers and no one returns calls. This has been a nightmare! read more

Went in asking to do just 30 days of tanning, and was told that the most affordable way to do this would be to become a member and cancel same day. 11 days later when the first of the month hit, that same staff member told me my tanning had expired because I had cancelled my membership. I have never written a yelp review or thought i would be this person but this tanning salon is one big money grubbing scam. I live out of state and just wanted to go in for a tan a few times while i'm here for the month. I started up a membership because I was told it would be more cost effective, and so I did on June 10th. At the time of my initial sign up the woman setting everything up for me slid in a lotion that was $75 (which by the way is sold online for $40), on top of a $40 membership instead of a $14.95 membership which is advertised EVERYWHERE. I ended up having to dispute it with my bank because they make sure you can't get your nearly $100 worth of money back because you can only do store credit which they also don't mention upon purchase. I moved on and accepted that i initially got scammed (my bank was very helpful thank goodness) but thought it would be okay once i cancel my membership. I go in to do so- since i'm leaving soon- and they told me they already charged me for the next month and that i was suppose to cancel on the 25th if i didn't want to be charged again. (for reference it had not even been 30 days when i went to cancel, and when you call and ask they say you can "cancel at anytime") I was taken advantage of with hidden fees, was never explicitly told what I am signing up for. I am FUMING over how unprofessional and greedy this salon is. I will be disputing the charge and will never be back on my visits to portland. I'd rather go to Lux Tan upon my next visit out here. read more

This is the WORST Tanning salon I've EVER been to! They kept charging my credit card for months after I only tanned there for ONE MONTH!!! This whole business is such a scam and their prices are the highest I've ever paid- for terrible customer service and beds that are just ok. After convinving management that my card was charged wrongly, they take EIGHT WEEKS to refund your card..As in I last tanned in October and it's almost Christmas and they STILL have my money with NO APOLOGIES-That's their policy. Upsold like crazy everything cost money. Did a 1 time tan and was sold the platium bed up to 12 mins and after my card was charged another girl came and would only let me tan for 6 mins. I walked out with 35 dollars less in my pocket and white as I walked in. Terrible business go elsewhere. read more

Although I can not speak for any of the other Palm Beach tanning salons, this particular one GAVE ME RINGWORM. Now, I'm usually one to keep the peace and I decided it would be best to contact the manager at this particular salon and inform her that their poorly sanitized beds were transmitting communicable diseases. It was almost insulting how quickly I was brushed off. First the manager asked me if I had heat rash. I am a premedical student currently taking microbiology and working in the ER....so, no, I think I would know the difference between a skin rash and a skin FUNGUS. I also informed her that I had a doctor I work with check it out and he confirmed that I did indeed have ringworm. Having been to no other potentially communicable areas and given the timeline that is common with ringworm (usually becomes symptomatic 4-10 days after exposure) I am 110% certain that Palm Beach transmitted this to me! Of course, the manager informed me that the pH their tanning beds were kept at prohibited the growth of such things. I, taking the side of logic, know that it only takes ONE poor cleansing job to leave behind pathogenic microbes. Needless to say, she did not refund my tanning package. This is an important issue that should be addressed. If I got this someone else also did... Thank you for your time. read more

I went here because I had a promotional coupon, and they totally won me over after just my first visit. The girl that helped me get my account set up was super knowledgeable and friendly. She took the time to actually get to know me and my skin type a bit... which is great because I have very sensitive skin and most people just throw me in a bed and let me burn, but not here. She explained all the products and equipment very thoroughly. I have been to many tanning salons and I believe Palm Beach Tan is the cleanest, friendliest and has the biggest selection of beds out of any place I have been to. They also have spray or "sunless" tanning which is awesome for someone like me who wants to protect my skin but still have that healthy glow. read more

Really terrible customer service and constant gimmicks for trying to squeeze every last dollar out of a person. Aside from every individual who works there having an air of superiority aaaand the million and one emails I get every damn day I was sold on a gold membership that I was told (and also on the sales paper they used) upfront would cost 65 dollars. I was charged 91. I didn't upgrade or buy any product either. Instead of listening to the sales girl try to bounce numbers around in the most annoying voice (and quite frankly, wearing an unbearable amount of perfume) I said to hell with it and let it go. The next month I was charged 61 dollars (what!?) and now on my 3rd month the charge has jumped to 76 dollars. When I called to ask about it the girl who answered the phone (Jessica I believe was her name) told me that I called the wrong location and that I'd have to personally go to the salon I signed up at to be helped. Don't let them sink their claws into you then nickle and dime you and then give you the worlds biggest headeache trying to get rid of them. Not unlike a crazy ex girlfriend. Aside from all that the cleanliness of the salon was never acceptable. There was even a time I skipped tanning altogether because they put me in a room that wasn't cleaned. The bed was oily from whoever had used it before me and I discovered that the floor was not getting swept or mopped when I dropped my shirt on the ground and picked it up covered in filth. The rudeness on the phone with Jessica is what broke the camels back. Especially in a world where customer service is key and especially for someone like myself who works in customer service. Disinfectant Cleaner A one-step, no-rinse, neutral pH disinfectant-cleaner. A full scale disinfectant, as well as, a cleanser, sanitizer, deodorizer, fungicide, virucide and mildewstat. This product meets all requirements for hospital use. Safe to use on tanning equipment acrylics. I find it highly offensive the staff is seen as incompetent.As I long time customer I have enjoyed my experience at palm beach tan.I also find it very interesting that people dont consider the risk of tanning in a public place (especially a tanning salon, where body after body sweats and lays in a hot bed). The ER seems like a place where you could run the risk of catching many comminicable diseases or running into many different types of germs. Then again I am no nurse.Maybe I should do my research before I decide to lay in a bed again. read more

I have been a member of palm beach tan for 8 months and I just cancelled it. The place itself is clean and nice and they have a lot of variety. But they are so fixated on money. They will pressure you into buying everything and the most expensive. When I went to cancel, I had 32 dollars in tan bucks which I wanted to use on a product and not let it go to waste. My gym comes with tanning beds so its pointless to keep this membership and I wanted lotion for those beds. I go in and say I want an optimizer or an intensifier. I ask for the cheapest and they show me one thats 50 dollars and say it'll be the cheapest I can find. I didn't want to spend any money so I said no. Then I saw the California brand and asked what that was. It was 39 dollars. They didn't even act surprised that I found their cheapest lotion. I understand that they work on commission but it is SO overbearing how much they pressure you into buying stuff. I suggest getting a membership at Crunch Fitness which is an AMAZING gym with tanning AND hydromassages for HALF the cost of palm beach tan. read more

Nice people and decent beds. I have the platinum membership-or the highest one possible, so I can tan in any bed they have. I'm least impressed with the spray tanning or Mystic tan. The 1st time I did it, I got great color but the smell lingered for days afterwards. The 2nd time I did it, (the guy who set it up was new) the smell happened again, but I got ZERO color...I'm still going back though! read more

PSA: Don't go here!!! Bad Business Model! Why didn't I read the reviews first?! And why haven't they changed their model since getting these reviews?! The day before my wedding, I walked into Palm Beach Tan simple because of its proximity to where I was getting a pedicure with about 20 minutes to spare. The guy at the counter insisted that I should join their monthly membership program to get a cheaper price that day, and that I could cancel at any time. I should've known by the giant contract I had to sign that this was going to end up hurting me, but I was so pressed for time and stressed out over the millions of details in my 25th hour of wedding planning, that I just needed to get that tan and get out. I've now been charged $25 a month since September, but I figured, hey, I'll use those three tanning sessions at some point in the next year. But here's the thing: the services expire each month, so if you don't go in and get a tan each month, you've just poured $25 down the drain. I'm not a monthly tanning girl--just special occasions, and I explained this to the guy at the counter, but I was aggressively upsold regardless. When I called to cancel my membership, I was told they can't do it over the phone and there was nothing they could do about the $75 I've poured into their business with no services in return. I hung up upset, then read these reviews, three of which speak to the same problem. I called back to ask why they wouldn't change their model or be more accommodating to customers who felt misinformed in hopes of receiving better reviews and recommendations on Yelp. With that second phone call, I was given one free tan in March. So I still lose $50, I still have to go into a salon to cancel my membership if I want to stop being charged (hopefully that will do the trick considering a previous review where a woman continued being charged even after she cancelled) When I referred to the bad reviews on Yelp for this issue and suggested the employee at least pass on my dissatisfaction (as well as three other customers' who wrote), she didn't seem familiar with the reviews nor did she agree to convey my message to her supervisors. Instead, she just told me over and over again that this was policy and there was nothing she could do. Is there ever a more unsatisfying answer from a business than that? I came in to do some price comparisons with other salons in the area and this is definitely the best priced! The staff was incredibly helpful with lots of product knowledge and really felt like she cared about finding me the best package/products for my specified needs. The salon was doctor-office clean! I was impressed by their selection of of beds and they also had Versa Mystic and a stand up too!!! I Will definitley be back to sign up for a package. read more

The worst experience in customer service I've ever had, and that's including all of my McMenamins encounters. I got hassled into a monthly spray tan membership, when all I wanted was one tan for an upcoming wedding. I've had melanoma issues, but I thought, "Hey, it might be nice to feel tan for a change." I figured I would cancel it after one month and be good. So after a month, before the automatic renewal, I went in for my last tan. Afterwards, I spoke with the girl at the counter, saying I would like to cancel my membership, and she quickly dismissed me and said I was good. So I asked again and said, "I want to cancel it. Is that all I need to do?" She said yes, and it was busy then, but after asking twice, I felt better about leaving. So I did, and what do you know, I get charged another $50 for the next month. Of course, I should have known. I went in and told them what had happened, and the manager said I needed to fill out a form and also asked who was working. I told her it was some short, blonde girl whose name I didn't get, and she told me who it was and that she would never do that. Nice. I never heard back from whoever the form went to, and so I called again and again, until I finally got into contact with the district manager. We played phone tag for probably a week, when I finally got her on the phone, while she was driving somewhere (very unprofessional). I could hardly hear her over the static. She said there was no proof for my claim that I had tried to cancel. I told her "look at my history and see that I haven't gone in to use it this month. I'm not trying to scam you, I just don't want to get $50 stolen from me when I clearly don't want the membership." She was super inconsiderate. She did offer me store credit, but I told her I didn't want store credit with my history of melanoma. I did the spray tan thing, but I really didn't like it. That's part of the reason I canceled. So I'm out $50, on top of countless hours where I honestly was just trying to get a refund for something I didn't even use. I don't get it. I know it was just $50, but it was the principle of the thing. I've worked in customer service my whole life, and I've never experienced such contempt for a customer. read more
