I had the best experience at Palm Beach Tan - Lloyd Center, and I have to specifically shout out Addy. She is incredible. You can immediately tell she truly knows tanning inside and out -- not just the beds, but every lotion, every undertone, and exactly what each product is meant to do. I've always been way too nervous to add a bronzer to my spray tans, but Addy took the time to actually explain everything to me and helped me choose the perfect bronzer and color combination for my skin tone. She showed me how to use it properly and made the whole process feel easy and stress-free. Now I'm completely in love with my tan. She genuinely changed my tanning experience and brought it to a whole new level. It's so refreshing to work with someone who is not only knowledgeable, but also passionate and confident in what they do. I am so frustrated with the Palm Beach Tan on commercial in Oregon! At the end of March, I went to cancel my membership. The girl behind the counter said that I had missed the cut off date to cancel it for April so it would charge one more month but that she took care of the cancellation and it would automatically cancel at the end of April. But on May 1, my card got charged again. I didn't notice the charge until the end of the month of May and once again, it had passed the cutoff date so it was too late to cancel in May and on June 1st they charged my card again. I have called them three times and gone into the store once and I cannot get the manager to call me back to help me with a refund. I've also sent an email to their corporate headquarters with no response. This is terrible customer service so beware! read more

A previous reviewer hit the nail on the head when calling PBT nefarious! This October, I went in person to the Broadway location to cancel my membership (as they only let you cancel in person which is WILD). While I was there, the wifi went down and the gal working wasn't able to complete it then and there. She said she'd be able to complete my cancellation once the wifi was up. The following month, I was charged AGAIN for my membership, so it seems like my original request was never completed. To discuss a refund for my November charge, I was directed to Krista, the Portland director of Client Relations. When I told her what happen, she told me that they couldn't find any network outage in October, and that I had tanned on November 1 (not exactly, that's the day I called to make sure my cancellation went through), so she couldn't give me a refund. Either this business is doing so poorly that it needs to gaslight customers into thinking they tanned when they didn't as to not lose revenue, or they think a sane person would actual jump through hoops and spend hours to swindle a tanning salon out of $60. read more

They are high-pressure to buy lotions that smell and don't offer scentless lotions. The salon is very clean, but also VERY expensive. Twice, they forgot to set my timer to 8 minutes, and I burned. I also had problems canceling my membership. I wrote an angry review, and the "owner" reached out with an email address to contact. On their website they offer a coupon for one free any service. It doesn't have an expiration date, it only states that the offer is for a limited time. My daughter was interested in trying out their services, so we printed out the coupon and headed over there. When we spoke to the lady behind the counter, she said "I think this expired on the 19th?" But was happy to offer my daughter a walk-in spray tan from anywhere between $50-$80. No where does it state an expiration date and if it did indeed expire on the 19th, then why is it still posted as available on the website? It felt like a bait and switch tactic to us. Very frustrating to waste time and gas on a business who doesn't actually honor what they advertised. So if you're considering taking advantage of the offered coupon, don't waste your time because even though it's still being advertised, I guess its now expired? read more

After a series of problems with this place I told the employee to cancel my membership plan. Almost two months later I noticed that they took 76.00 out of my bank account. When I called to get a refund the employee told me that I never signed a cancellation document so my cancellation never went through. I explained that the employee never had me sign anything and that it was not my fault, but the employee said that is there is nothing that she could do about it and refused to refund my money. She then proceeded to cancel my membership over the phone WITHOUT A SIGNATURE., Which just contradicted what she had just told me! This place is nefarious and poorly run. Watch out! read more

I called two other locations and was told that I could indeed use my tan dollars with the discount. called manager back after leaving and asked her why her policy was not valid or consistent with other locations, she cut me off while I was talking she promised me that other locations were wrong, and that she was right after her nine months of being manager, it's clear to me that she must get some kind of commission for selling products, because she was adamant about not allowing me to use my tan dollars. When I told her other locations were saying different, she instantly became the victim and said that she doesn't need to be talked to like this and hung up on me. She did not know how to handle being called out or just didn't want to be wrong about her policy that only that location is upholding. I had an incident using spray booth. I wore the sticky shoes. When i pulled them off after tanning my feet were bleeding. I reported it and asked for a manager. Im still waiting for some type of customer cate. Its been over a month and they could of cared less. I opted out of their services and still have not received any care from management since the incident. The girl at the counter told me her customer service care stopped at the front door so she could not help me. Bad way to treat customers. I left 2 stars because The tans were fine the 6 I got in Jan to March. I had to pay a membership fee & then my monthly fee (which I was told 59 bucks was the lowest package to get) I have been out of state and they would not let me close my account. I finally flew back to Oregon and have to pay an extra fee to stop my services. None of that was told to me when I signed up. It was you can stop anytime you want as long as it's by the 25th. Why is stopping my plan more than my monthly dues. I will be contacting or trying to contact the managers because well the workers say they just work here not our prices. Every time I come to the Broadway Portland location Salon director Kelby will not allow me to use the beds for the time amount I need. Two weeks ago I used the Diamond bed for the maximum time of 10 minutes and today she said I waited too long between tans and she will only allow me 8 minutes. I'm a Diamond member! I've been a loyal customer for many years and would like this issue addressed. I have asked to see this in writing and/or in my contract and she refuses to show me. Please help. I'm considering canceling my tan membership over how she is treating me every time I come in. I recently got a membership here, was persuaded heavily to get the most expensive membership, and the most expensive lotions, didn't realize it then but the worker was trying to get me to spend as much p money as possible A former employee there let me know that they do this with everyone. This review will probably get taken down, keep your bank account safe when shopping here they don't care about the tan that you get they care about scamming you and making commission. I went in wanting to spend as little money as possible and repeatedly told the worker that I was not trying to spend a lot of money and didn't have a lot of money to spend and she literally convinced me that they didn't have a cheap membership and had me pay for the one that's in the middle of being the most expensive. When I asked for the cheapest plan which is around $35 she told me they didn't have one when I got home and looked it up I saw that they did. I left having paid $150 I didn't have because I had been convinced that that was the least amount of money I literally could spend. When I called to check them about it they told me that yes they do have a cheaper bed but it's for people with skin diseases when I asked the former employee friend she told me that that's just a lie they tell you guys to tell us so that we spend more money. I still go and Tan here cause I have no other option within walking distance when I can but for the last week they've been closed even though the website says that they're open, if you don't have enough workers to work that's fine but at least change your status to closed or even put up a sign saying why ur closed!! so people aren't wasting time and money going there to tan and you guys are closed. Overall I'm glad I have somewhere to go tan after work but y'all's whole procedure is super disrespectful and is screwing innocent people out of there money. read more

After being a loyal customer for over 10 years, Palm Beach Tan 'accidentally' canceled my membership instead of putting it on hold or freeze as they call it, as I specifically requested back in December. They were unable to explain why, or how this happened as my bank information never changed, and there was plenty of money to pay the hold fees. In order to get my account back they said I was required to pay additional bank fees and forgo any tan dollars that were supposed to be accrued. I'm so disappointed and sad that after so many years of being able to put my account on hold during the winter has resulted in an such an error in which they refuse to fix. Been a customer for many years and have always had excellent experience, until recently. The fill-in manager, Cam, at the Broadway store in Portland Oregon, has the worst customer service skills besides being rude. Before he came to that store it use to be busy and a wait time for a bed often. All the other workers there are pleasant and helpful. Now the few times that I've gone in there it's real empty and if this Cam person treats everyone the same way he has treated me on the couple of occasions I've had interactions with him, I can understand why. He has basically called me a liar about me not paying for a certain service at this store or any other store ever before and all the sudden he wants to charge me and say there has always been a charge and not look in the computer system to see that I was right. He rather call me a liar. I will be telling all my friends they would be better off going else where for their tanning needs. At least until he's gone. read more

I just had one of the best customer experiences of my life at Palm Beach Tan. I am 33, and have only had a spray tan once before (Prom 2005, and it was bad). I'm naturally fair skinned with a red undertone so natural tanning has never been an option before. Over quarantine, I got a little experimental with at-home self tanners and ended up liking the look a lot. I walked into PBT this morning to inquire about membership options. My technician, Ivy, was so wonderfully helpful in helping me decide (I went for the Platinum Membership, which gives me unlimited spray tans each month). She was also very knowledgeable about after-care products and helped me choose what was just right for me. I am a teacher at a cosmetology school, so I am incredibly aware of the enhanced infection control measures that the Oregon Health Authority has put forth as a result of COVID-19. As an educator and representative of the beauty industry, I am very critical about personal service industry spaces in general. I can say with full faith that this business is taking every mandated precaution as well as going above and beyond them to keep their staff and customers safe. I have a trip tomorrow and also pay $75 a month so I think it's ridiculous to turn away a customer that far away from when your shift ends. Scum - bags! They started charging while the state was still in lockdown. I moved away and called to cancel - they said you have to cancel in person. I live a thousand miles away. They kept charging for a year - refuse to cancel. I didn't even ask for a refund. Just asked them to close the account. I just cancelled that card and closed one of my bank accounts because I refuse to pay these rude thieves one more penny. I didn't even ask for a refund - they say I owe them for a month. Seems as though at some point during the year during which the country was on lockdown and I lived 1000 miles away, they forgot to bill me for the services I wasn't using and they didn't have available on an account they refuse to close. Go to this Palm Beach!!! I cannot say enough good things about the staff- specifically Sam and Leah. Leah got me signed up and was so polite, professional and knowledgeable... she walked out from behind the counter to introduce herself and shake my hand, she gave me a tour and when i told her my main reason for tanning was psoriasis she knew immediately what bed would be best. After we figured out the best package for me, her and Sam helped me pick out lotions- they were very honest on what was good and not so good and I never felt like I was being pressured or they were being pushy. Sam has been there every time since and literally makes every time such a good experience.. he's hilarious and nice and again so knowledgeable. As a manager in the customer service field, he is everything I look for in an associate... he is AMAZING at his job and deserves a raise. I won't go to any other Palm Beach location solely because I know Leah and Sam won't be there. As far as beds go- the diamond bed is the nicest tanning bed I have ever been in... literally feels like a Tesla of tanning beds. I've done a few different beds now and they are always clean. I am very very ashamed to admit it, but I went tanning a handful of times this winter. I know! It's horrible, and I feel very stupid about it. So much so that my pal and I SWORE to not tell a soul that we were doing it. Friends thought we were secretly conspiring about doing drugs...ah nope, just tanning. It's totally unhealthy! It seems kinda superficial! It's totally embarrassing! I'm not a freshman in college anymore! (I know that some people do it for some sort of health reasons, but I wasn't, so you must allow my self-deprecation). Listen, we're both really pale and I have come to terms with that. I'm typically quite content with it. If I had one of those milky porcelain doll complexions that everyone oohs and aahs over I surely wouldn't be exposing myself to harmful rays. But I don't, it's just pale. Just plain pale. And that's fine too, but it was a long winter folks, and girl needed some Vitamin B (or UVB but whatever). Alright, I'm done justifying my actions. Seriously, purchasing a package from this place was like buying a used car. They really try to up sell and basically it's these 20 year old girls thinking that their business tactics are convincing and maybe if they push hard enough, somehow I'll be hypnotized by their dark dark brown leathery skin into buying a lifelong package of tans for $9,000. Darlin, I ain't a fool. Sure, I've fallen victim to pushy sales tactics/ scams in my day (mostly from a love for periodicals...that's another story) but I don't want to be TAN, I just want to be normal color, so drop the pushy. Then on subsequent visits they're all about selling you lotions and and the newest spray tan and so forth. I get it, you work on commission. Enough, I say. Anyways, I was totally averagely pale for a couple months. It was empowering. Pacific Beach Tan, now called Palm Beach Tan is another one of those tanning places I hate. The kind where they're always trying to sell you something, push something on you, convince you the sky is green, write out numbers on a piece of paper with a thick sharpie. BUT I needed a tan, so I did their monthly deal where they charge $20 plus a $25 dollar activation fee plus a $5 a month charge for running your credit card every 5th day of each month. Well, when my credit card was stolen and canceled I didn't think much of the fact that Palm Beach Tan would be NEEDING my money. And, I didn't really feel much like tanning anymore so I didn't worry about it too much. Until 3 months later when I got an E-MAIL telling me I owed $80, and once I paid it I could continue tanning. So you're telling me I could have been tanning this whole time? Oh no, because my account was past due. But they're going to continue to charge me until I come INTO the store (not CALL) and cancel my membership. I did, after all, sign a contract. So, obviously this is how they make their money, not because they have great tanning beds, not because they offer the premier memberships and ridiculously overpriced lotions, but because they require a contract to be signed before tanning. read more

I made the mistake of trying this location and I will never cheat on my girls at Gateway again! Well, let's be honest, I will probably occasionally go to use the Open Sun bed and the Beauty Angel (Different locations, different beds) but I can garuntee they will never see me reaching into my pockets for anything for than a stick of gum! I will say that this particular salon has some nice beds and is in a very good location. However, the staff is for the most part, extremely undertrained and it is very evident that much of what the spout of while trying to sell products and/ or upswell packages is simply what they have heard other employees reciting. I have on several occasions asked questions I already knew the answer to, hoping to get correct information, only to receive something made up that in fact would probably sound pretty good to someone who didn't know much about tanning. THE MANAGER IS A COMPLETE LIAR. I don't know who decided that this twenty something year old troll has any business running a business but she will make anything up as long as it sounds good at the moment and she believes it will help her make a sale. She will tell a customer she always uses the light spray tan and then tell the next customer she always uses the dark. She makes up "facts" as she goes along and as a medical professional, I was appalled by some of the thing she was spouting off to other customers in my presence. I love Palm Beach Tan but my advice, pick another location. As I said before, the Gateway location is absolutely my favorite but I imagine ANY location is better than this one. Hopefully the guy that works at the Broadway store finds his way to another location because he seems to be the only one with a brain in his head and he CERTAINLY derserves much better than that joke of a place. I can't imagine the current manager will last much longer because from what I understand, she is leaving quite a bad impression on a number of customers. Now, let me tell you the things that DIDN'T affect my low rating: Tanning is expensive! The beds are expensive, bulbs new to be hanged regularly, the energy bills re astronomical, and then of course there is overhead! Your $30-90 per month is NOT much in the whole scheme of things so don't walk in acting like you are paying their mortgages! The products are ridiculously expensive too, at an average 300% markup, I agree, but that is where they make their money so if you don't like it, get your products online. When they ask to see your goggles, it isn't because they think you are a child, it is because it is required by state law. Just like the OLCC conducts stings to catch vendors not checking IDs, tanning salons can lose their liscences for not ensuring customers are equipped with proper protective eye ware. I understand that not everyone has experience in tanning, but if you don't, it seems tht a prudent person would do even a small amount of research before making assumptions. read more

Every time I go tanning I go in a bad mood (usually when I need it the most!) and the staff is just so incredibly sweet, I'm super high maintenance and I never feel like I'm annoying them or burden of them. Brady is a doll and I love talking to him, Sophia (I think she's the mngr) is equally as cute and energetic. I had a AWFUL experience this morning with a employee there by the name of "Bree"! They are supposed to be open at 9am on Saturdays. I walked in at 9:17am and saw the cash register sitting by the front door. I asked if I was there to early and she said yes. I went to my car to verify the time. It was 9:17am! I went back in and told her I would wait for her to finish opening because my husband was in the car and had to be at work at 10am and she said ok. So I'm standing there waiting and a man walks in and she asks him his name and puts his information into the computer and assigns him a bed! I couldn't believe it!!! She knew I was there first! She knew she was late opening and that my husband was waiting in the car! I have to drive 20 minutes to go tan here and have to be places on time! I didn't want to embarrass the man so I waited for him to walk off and I told her that it was a shitty thing she did! She NEVER apologized! She had a smirk on her face! I couldn't even tan I was so upset!!!! ABSOLUTELY NO customer service with "Bree"!!! I got her name which she sarcastically gave me. I've had a great experience so far. The staff was really helpful and not to pushy on sales. I got what I needed and I'm very satisfied.

Come with a lot of patience. Management: dont leave your new, untrained employees alone to run phone, checking people in, cleaning beds, and trying to upsell so long then not know the computer system to do a basic membership. I came saying I wanted to tan (came across town) and get the most basic membership and came ALMOST AN HOUR BEFORE CLOSING AND STILL DIDNT GET TO DO MY MINI 4 MIN TAN. Former employees/current clients had to help this poor girl, I kept letting her check others in in between a much too long sign up process to be told it was officially 2 min too late to let me tan. She told me to come back in the morning. I was seriously so patient and sweet but she couldnt manage to realize to get me assigned a bed before 9?! Others who I had let go had come and gone and still others were still tanning when I was told it was too late. What a joke. Shouldve paid me the $20 sign up fee, I lost more than that I couldve been working instead of wasting my evening NOT tanning. read more

After reading the reviews I was skeptical but decided to give them a try because they are close to my gym. I've been tanning here for about three months now and I love it. It's always clean and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. June is my birthday month and PBT gave me a free tan in any bed and a $25 discount on any tanning lotion over forty bucks! On top of that if I spent over $50 on lotion (which i did) I would get a one month bed upgrade =-) read more
