I've been a loyal tanning customer for years, previously with Suntans to Go, and recently switched to Palm Beach due to its convenient location and the promise of a great experience. For my first visit a few days ago my experience was good, thanks to OG's expertise (his name is Chris) in guiding me through starting my tanning process, similar to the excellent care I received from Tommy at my previous salon visits. I have light skin, and they both ensured I achieved a beautiful, natural tan without any burns. However, today's visit was a complete disaster. Without OG's guidance (because he wasn't there), the tanning bed I used malfunctioned and overheated, causing it to shut off mid-session. Immediately, my face became extremely red, and my eyelids swelled up. Now, my entire body is burning and severely red, plus I'm starting to get chills. When I reported the issue to the front desk girl, her response was dismissive, simply stating that "the beds get hot" and attributing the problem to the newness of the equipment compared to Tommy's older beds. I'm not comfortable being told "they get hot" when clearly the machine displayed an over-temperature error and shut itself down mid-session. That error in the picture indicates a safety threshold was exceeded, the unit needs to be inspected before it's used again. I understand UV causes burns, but the excess heat from the canopy overheating definitely amplified the inflammatory response and increased the severity of my skin burn reaction. A safety cutoff should not be considered normal and should not have been brushed off casually. Not to mention with this type of skin burn I can't even visit the salon again in 24 hrs. I probably have to wait a full week or two after paying nearly $200 for the month and some products and $125 starting next month which cannot be canceled until after they charge the $125. Can't take a hot shower, can't workout, can't throw a blanket on. Fingers crossed I don't develop any blisters. The fact that the beds are new and the prices are higher doesn't justify the lack of proper care and attention. The personalized guidance I received from Tommy and OG is unmatched, and I never experienced burns with Tommy's "old orbit bed" and had the most beautiful tan, I would get so many compliments! My process was always comfortable. I also will be checking in with all my referrals. The salon didn't even offer any remedies for my burned skin. While I plan to continue visiting and seeking OG's assistance because I'm stuck there for two months. I want to warn others to exercise caution and specifically request OG's guidance to avoid a similar incident. I'll update this review with OG's name soon. Iykyk. - I also read other reviews that it is very difficult to cancel membership and they keep charging even after you cancel. Truly hoping this is not the case. I will most definitely be keeping you updated. - btw let me add, when OG is gone I'm out and I want my money back. -They make you wait a full 24 hours before you can tan again -They'll claim the bed has new bulbs and force you to take a shortened session and then you'll get literally no color from it -The phone number to call corporate is never picked up live, you have to leave a VM. -They are excessive with wanting all of your personal information. -I heard them strongly pressuring a new customer to give a positive review even though they hadn't even had their first session yet (asked them three times and the customer kept pushing back). -I bought sessions and was promised they would never expire but now suddenly they do. Hailing from Europe with olive -skintone; I tan easily and have never had a sunburn in my life (despite an autoimmune illnesses that causes rashes). Couple this with being a working model on camera... means that I am a tanning bed connoisseur. I know, I know. It's not the greatest but it actually impacts my mental health in a positive way, as well. For 15 years, 3x a week; I have been tanning at Sun Tans To Go: a local business owned by the lovable Tommy for about 35 years. Sadly for us tanners, Tommy retired and sold the salon to corporate chain Palm Beach Tan. And good lord ... none of us are happy. You can find Palm Beach Tan at the corner of Moorpark and Fulton in the Plaza with 7-11: this hasn't changed and is still in the old Sun Tans To Go real estate spot. Palm Beach Tan is allegedly going to remodel the premises plus bring in new, modern tanning beds so this review is pre-mature in that regard as it is being penned prior to such changes; but I can already comment on all the other negatives. First of all, Palm Beach Tan requires you to essentially "sign up" (although they claim it is contract-free) and put your credit card on file which they auto-deduct monthly or whenever your payment is due. This is a huge deterrent as Tommy - who was in his 60s - allowed us to pay with cash and whenever our packages expired. I am not a fan of my card on file especially when businesses get hacked all the time and I prefer to pay in cash. The only perk was that, being grandfathered meant I received a discount on their regular price for 30 days unlimited. They also take your email address and I've been annoying bombarded with multiple, daily marketing emails. The biggest issue has been customer service or rather the lack thereof. It is so bad; that I have literally been hating coming to tan. I used to view my tanning time as self-care and it was like a family/community with Tommy as all of us clients are older in age (this isn't a teen or Gen Z focused tanning spot). Now, I am just uncomfortable. Since day one, the staff here has been incorrigible. It appears they have all been rotating from different Palm Beach Tan locations so a set crew isn't solidified as of yet; but each associate has been rude, snotty, and quite incompetent at their jobs. They have all had an attitude like they've been here forever and we are the freshmen in high school. It is the other way around - they are the newbies and should be treating us like gold during this transition in order to have us stick around. They are all also Gen Z 20 year old kids - I'm old enough to your mother, kiddos! - and they still stick their noses up at us! One of the gals, kept calling me "My dear" every two seconds. Um, I don't know you and again, I'm older than you. When I asked her to stop, she gave ME a dirty look! Another kiddo couldn't find my name four times and even had a hard time through my phone number search. What was up with that?! While I was in a bed, I overheard them talking smack on Tommy and that "This is why the business failed". Um, child, he was in business longer than you've been alive. It is greatly unprofessional to talk about a previous owner when HIS clients can hear you. The only one who has made any effort to be welcoming is Brennan (not sure how to spell his name) who is the regional manager of sales, I believe. Plus, Chris, who was Tommy's right-hand man is still around which is the only positive point. Small side note: their new head rests are painfully hard as a rock. Edit: their auto-pay took the wrong amount out of my account today and I'm pissed. They better refund me. They are seriously terrible! Perhaps things will improve but they've already lost quite a few die- hard clients and if my entire life wasn't already scheduled around this location; I would also go elsewhere. Palm Beach Tan truly needs some business 101 classes and some more training from corporate because these kiddos are NOT cutting it. This company is not honorable. I bought a 10 package membership through the previous owner which was great. Now after having come in approx 5 times, they want me to sign something when I have already been using their new machines. Kane would not allow me to tan without signing something. I've been coming here for over 15 years. The new spray tan machine is not like the older model and I don't nearly get the same tan as before. I asked for a refund of my previous package since he would not allow me to tan. Please be advised I am reporting you to the Better Business Bureau. read more

No response at all after two weeks, and another hour wasted this week, and so I'd like to share the original email I sent because my time matters and your time does too. Choose your businesses wisely, because when your payment to them becomes money and your time, well you can't ever get the latter back. - I've been going to the location on Moorpark in Sherman Oaks for 15 years. I know the place was sold to PBT, so no issues there, except I've been holding back on some serious feedback for a while. I'm choosing not to leave a Yelp review because I truly want you all to be successful, but my guess is that if something isn't fixed soon, we're all going to go down the street in either direction to the next best salon. When the business was sold and I bought a monthly membership, it was no big deal to me. In fact, I was excited about the promises of new beds and refurbishment that was, at the time going to take place in a "few months". Fast forward...it's December 2025, and the renovation is just starting? I've had less than any premium experience during this time - burned out face bulbs, the same dirty carpet, an out of order restroom (I know you have two, it's just the point), have to ask for towels, and now of course buy your own eye wear. The little quirks when Tommy owned the place were tolerable but not expected when a major company buys the business and fails to adhere to basic standards or a timeline where it actually makes a difference what package you have. What is really prompting this review is the fact that I've wasted about 2 hours collectively as of recent, of driving to the location to be told it's a 15 minute, 20 minute. 30 minute wait because you all don't have beds available during the remodel. I get it... but for what we all pay per month, and the waiting, and the poor upkeep during this time... it's like you don't think there are other options available and we all are fine waiting it out and hoping everything will run smoothly eventually. Of course, not going to lie, I love the location.. but I'm almost to the point where my peace is worth more than the frustration. And I am sure I'm not the only one, just the one who is finally writing a note because you need to know how this makes your customers feel. I'm not here to offer a solution, or ask for any freebie, I'm literally just letting you know that it's been a frustrating experience. Once this place got sold to Palm Beach Tan it's gone down the drain. They're trying to force $70 a month subscriptions. They have moved away from offering packs of sessions at a rebate like the previous owners.. They have been promising upgrades for a long time with very little progress. They have shortened their hours of operation. They don't open early nor do they close late anymore so there's very little flexibility for some people with schedules to be able to go relax and Tan. Anytime you try to bring up your concerns the manager gives you some smug Dismissive non-answers. Sun Spa which isn't that far away offers all these things at decent prices, they have better hours of operation and their places immaculate. After almost 20 years I'm moving there for my Tan. The staff is great - but corporate leaves a lot to be desired and has turned into a money grab. You have to pay to upgrade your tanning package (and when they waive the fee for others a week later - they won't refund you) . If you want to put your membership on hold - they still charge you smaller monthly fee. Everything costs something now and its unfortunate this location has lost its "family" atmosphere. Hoping the bed availability improves after the renovations or I will start looking elsewhere and save myself the headaches. read more

You have ruined what Tommy build. This was a family business and I am so happy that he got to retire to be with his family. However, you have lost every loyal Suntans to go customer. I've been coming here for about 30 years, my mother used to come here. A few days of tanning was all we needed on occasion. But your rates are insane and the hospitality doesn't exist. You changed your hours so us early birds can't come at 7am like before. This lovely neighborhood spot is now a sell out and after 5 tans, I had very little to show for it. Very crushing! I'll never go back. Please don't send your auto reply, it's a waste of your time and mine. To be transparent this location is not great and at most times very unprofessional , unkept, dirty, shady sorry place to go relax , tan and unwind: I will say the only thing that has been a ray of light is a couple of the employees like Chris, Danny, McKayla and Rebecca. Other than that since the take over it's been a circus in there with lots of turn over in employees, beds half working, only extremely expensive nonsense lotions available, the washer or perhaps it's the dryer makes a horrible sound when running the bed I was in last to no surprise had bulbs out and also a disturbing crackling sound. I could truly keep going but this is already exhausting as it is to even have to do this. Don't bother going to customer service because they went in to my account after a phone call and thought it would be ok to put a fee attached to sessions I had left on my account that had already been paid IN FULL. There are other salons in the area that are great and the staff is on point , lots of options, clean and inviting environment . Again the few staff I named above are truly the highlight . The sorry excuse is they are going to remodel , that's fine but I the meantime they have had no concern for the place and it's appearance, feel or functionality To add the extreme unprofessional ways of Some employees of Palm Beach tan that had come in have argued that the place was old and out dated BUT I will say the beds were ALWAYS on point and kept in proper working condition , got great tan and the place was always clean, inviting and top notch on customer service. Sorry but not sorry. The absolute wicks end for be was finding out someone went on my account and add fees for me to use sessions I had already paid for in full. I miss Tommy for sure! I have been away past few months came in to renew and found it to be under new ownership! The rep stated they will honor the rate that I was paying with Tommy. Since after all I have been going for few years consistently and Tommy was flexible with giving me the best rate possible. Due to my work schedule I would pay a month and barely go not even 7 days within a month. So they asked me all my personal information and since they did originally say they will honor the same rate I gave them all my personal info then they gave me another price versus what I used to pay! I felt like it's a bait and switch. Since I repeatedly said what I was paying! I told him to erase all my personal information he said well nothing will be charged; I don't care you have all my information so delete it! Unsure if he did or not - since he looked lost staring at the monitor so I walked out and I rather pay more money somewhere else then to have someone lie to my face of honoring my previous rate! read more

This place went extremely downhill when it changed to Palm Beach Tan. They're closed at the most random times even though their hours of operation say that they're open. And they go on to say that you can visit one other locations and the closest one is in West Hollywood. The entire staff is honestly strange.
