Since I cannot watch movies without a siopao or two to munch on, I'm glad there's a Kowloon House near where I used to live. It's in a strip mall fronting Brazil street, which makes it not too far from SM Bicutan. Whether asado or bola-bola, Kowloon has been able to maintain its terrific taste over the decades. This place is open until late into the evening, so whenever the urge hits, I can be sure that I can get my favourite jumbo siopao practically anytime. Kowloon claims to have the "world's best dimsum" and it's not an idle boast. How else could it have survived for the longest time? However, the outlet along Dona Soledad Avenue says it's open 24 hours a day, but there have been several occasions when I passed by and it was closed for business. The place is more kiosk than restaurant, by the way. There are only a handful of tables and chairs, but that's ok. Most customers order take out anyway. There's been only one out of so many times when I wasn't totally satisfied with my Kowloon siopao. The taste seemed funny, close to spoiling. I chalk up that one bad experience to their possibly recycling unsold siopao. Or maybe it was just one bad batch out of thousands sold every month. I've been crazy for Kowloon House siopao ever since I was a kid. I still am. Five stars for the world's best dimsum!

My family and I really like King Bee! They consistently have good Chinese food too…read more The first time I tried their Jumbo Siopao was from my tita. I was hooked. I had to know where it was from. That's when I learned of King Bee. Masinag seems to be the nearest to our place... even if it's really far away from us. For Sunday lunches with our clan, we go all the way to Masinag to pick up lunch. That's exactly what we did today. Our usuals are their Yang Chow Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, Chopseuy Fried Noodles, Hakaw, Asado Siopao, and of course, Jumbo Siopao. These dishes from them never fail us. Their hakaw has the most shrimp I've ever seen inside a hakaw. The Jumbo Siopao is a mix of bola bola with egg, chorizo, shrimp, and mushroom. I've tried something similar from other places... and King Bee's is still the best.

It's become one of the best places I truly miss when I finally moved to the Ortigas area. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, King Bee does not use MSG in their dishes. I guess they are just able to create delicious Oriental food without any "magic". Hahaha. My personal favorites would be their dumplings. I love King Bee's Hakaw!!! It's one of the best I've ever gotten to taste. It's seasoned well and is always fresh! Plus, whenever I check the shrimp (yes, I do that), I always appreciate the fact that they take out the black string-like thing found in between the shrimp's body. Their siomai is pretty good too and I usually pair these with their Yangchow Fried Rice. So good! Serving size here at King Bee is always good to share so coming here in groups would be a good idea. I actually have not had the time to take my dad here (he loves Chinese cuisine) so I'll be sure to take him here one of these days. I'm pretty sure he's going to love it!
