They do the bare minimum and no more. We had new kitchen appliances delivered and cockroaches were hidden in the cardboard boxes (very common we were told). Despite my telling PE that their current treatment wasn't working, they kept at it and wouldn't listen. I was so exasperated that I called NewTec Pest Mgmt and asked for them to come evaluate. I was charged for a service that never happened! I received a bill from them and when I called to ask them when that pest control service was completed, they gave me the date and said the person was at my home for 45 minutes. I was home that day and never once saw a pest control person walking around my house, I even checked my security cameras to see if they showed up and nothing. When I told the lady on the phone that was not true, she put me on hold to talk to her manager. The manager said, he could be out there tomorrow to treat my house and I told them, No. I requested a refund which she said she could not do. Needless to say, I requested to have my service cancelled. I will give my money or recommend a dishonest company. Unfortunately, I cannot leave a positive review for Palmetto Exterminators (Summerville office). I was not notified in advance about their visit-- the technician arrived unexpectedly at my rental property without any prior communication. Additionally, I never received an inspection report following the visit. I only became aware of the service after receiving an incorrect notification about a renewal payment being due. The entire process was disorganized and frustrating. I'm very disappointed with the lack of communication and follow-through. read more

I have been a client of Palmetto for 9 years but today is the last day they will ever get my money! I have always been enrolled in auto-pay so I never had to worry about my bill. They must have recently changed their system because it looks very different now and during this change my payment info must have been lost. My bill was due February 1st unbeknownst to me and instead of calling, emailing or sending me a paper bill in the mail to tell me about the bill, Palmetto decided to send me to a collection agency for $80! This is such nonsense! How can you send a client to collections after the problem was on your end and you made zero effort to get payment from me??? Horrible business practice there! Terrible communication. I kept the termite bond when I bought this house in 2020. Every year they are to come out and inspect my house at $350. This inspection was supposed be through with a report. I have sen two inspectors since moving here 4 years ago. I spoke to the last who was trying desperately to convince me I didn't have termites. It seemed super sketch. He confirmed it when he was going to his car and fill out the report and be right back. He got in his car and left. I have never received a single report in 4 years. I called several times but it's hit or miss if they pick up. Do not leave a voicemail, it will not be returned. The person I did speak to was as friendly as porcupine. She was very prickly. I basically inherited this company from the previous home owners termite bond and it's been one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. What really made me write the negative review was the latest issue... and at this point there have been so many this review would be a novel. I received a notification on my security camera that someone was in our back yard, which is fenced off and gated. Before calling the police I asked my neighbor if he would look around the house to see what this guy was doing on my property, and he stated there was a Palmetto Exterminator truck parked "in our yard". Apparently it's normal practice for this company to just show up without any notice. Our annual inspection isn't until February, so are they showing up 2 months early or 10 months late? I tried calling their local office, and there isn't anyway to speak with anyone, just to leave a message (which I did, and no one ever called back). Our last inspection was in May, 2022... over 17 months in between inspections doesn't seem like good business if you ask me. read more

Palmetto Exterminators - The interior wasn't accessible because no appointment was made and you just randomly showed up at my house - Pest Control Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

My parents owned their home in Charleston from 1963 until my father died 12/30/2019. I assume that the house was fundamentally sound and couldn't possibly have termites since it was protected by Palmetto. Boy was I wrong. After demoing some of the kitchen, there were active termites! The entire kitchen floor had to be demoed. See the photo. I called Palmetto and they sent a tech within an hour to spray and kill the live termites. Then I waited for someone to call about the damage since they provide $250,000 of damage protection. I never got a call. I called and said that I needed to file a claim and they acted like I was from Mars. I finally was told that the owner could come out in a few weeks. That's when I lost it. I demanded that he come out asap. So the next morning I met with the owner of Palmetto and my contractor. The owner did everything he could to distance his company from any responsibility for the termite damage. He said that there is a committee that will meet and decide if "they want " to provide assistance. I felt like we were asking for a handout. This damage is due to their negligence and I"m glad my parents didn't fall through the floor during their lifetime. There are lots of glowing reviews about their pest control but I am a customer who can tell you that their termite protection is terrible. It is costing us $30,000 to repair the damage so the estate can sell the home. I really feel like my parents were taken. read more

Not sure if it is just me but each time I have called this company, I have had poor customer service. I'm new to the area and when I purchased my house, the previous owners had a termite contract with PEI. I elected to continue using them because, quite frankly, I was too lazy to shop around. We were billed in August for our annual termite service so we paid it; our renewal date was Nov 30. We didn't hear from anyone so we called and were told that someone would call to schedule an appointment. We didn't receive a call back so called to day and was told that the home was previously inspected in Jan 2018 and they would be out sometime (any time in 2019) to do another inspection. I asked why they wouldn't be coming out in Jan 2019 and was told there really is no scheduled timeframe for monitoring. To the manager: Let your receptionists know that tone and friendliness can help a lot when it comes to customer service. While I will use you for termites (because I didn't do my homework), my pest control will be moved over to Stark - Your ladies could take a few lessons from Jennifer at Stark. They never stated I had termites only wood rot on my side door. When I went to repair the damage it was full of termite damage!! They were suppose to have this repaired or pay me a claim..... I used Palmetto Exterminators for my termite bond/treatment and pest treatment on my former residence. It was hit or miss depending on which technician you received. Some left detailed findings with photographs and suggestions for improvement, when others left no information. I eventually cancelled the pest control portion of my services (but kept termite) due to high pricing when they'd only treat the exterior for insects. read more

I had no issues for the 2 plus years I used them but I called and canceled my service because I sold my house. They still did a service after and charged me for it. I spoke to Alexander and he left me with the impression that he understood since I gave him information that verified I had spoken to someone at their office but then sent an email that since he could not verify what was said in the conversation I would still be responsible for the bill. Within a few hours of posting my review below, I received a call from PEI. They made an appointment, arrived at the appointed time and made a long term adjustment by pulling back some of the insulation and supporting with hangers so the next inspector wouldn't have to pull the insulation down to see the necessary areas. I signed up for a yearly service having my whole house treated for termites. I realized that I was never contacted by the company again after the expensive initial treatment. I called the office only to be told that my contract was canceled due to lack of payment. I explained that no service had been rendered. They could not explain nor show a bill for service. They said they had sent a bill to my home. Only the address was incorrect. But this was my fault and not theirs. If this bill was real I feel sure that I would have received a phone call demanding payment. As a customer, all I wanted was to the service promised. I did not want to be treated badly. The technician that was scheduled was out sick the day of the inspection and they sent a manager out to complete the inspection. I received my report promptly the morning of the next business day. Palmetto Exterminators has had our Termite bond since we bought our current home in 2018. We also use them to do a quarterly extermination. Have always had good service from their technicians until recently. That being said, the other day I noticed the door to our crawl space was open and set to the side, as if someone had accessed this. The only thing I could think of was when the termite tech came out last it got left open. No big deal - things happen. I called Palmetto to see if they could send someone out next time they are in the area to put it back, and to make sure no 'critters' had gotten into the crawl space because the door had been left open (we live on a small pond). Turns out they show it was 4 months ago that they were out (and was told "the technician wouldn't have left it open"). I can only assume this has been open since then, as we do not spend much time in the backyard over the winter months (and I have never opened it). This was a little more alarming to me given the potential amount of time passed. However, I was basically told "we're not going to come out (to fix something we caused), but I can give you the number of another company that can come inspect your crawl space" (for a fee, of course). So, long story short - they left my crawl space open for months, potentially allowing critters access, and they refuse to rectify the issue. I don't feel like I expect Too much from any company when it come to customer service, but what I do expect (and respect) is a company that recognizes potential mistakes and does what it takes to make it right. Didn't really appreciate the attitude of "too bad - not our problem" I got from them. Think I may start searching for another termite company to give my money to. read more

Awesome. Just had our first termite treatment for a bad termite problem that the other company (lightning) failed to see or even do a proper, complete inspection. The folks from Palmetto were exceptionally detailed. They arrived on time with all the right equipment and supplies. Even though it was very very hot, they worked happily along inspecting for termite tubes and treating everything they saw. Very happy with Palmetto so far. read more

We have a new sales rep named Joel and he is very friendly and knowledgeable. No huge issues but using this company and their products as a preventative measure. read more

I wanted to add an update to my earlier review. After I posted the review, a manager, Garrett, reached out to me to apologize for the way I was treated. Garrett was incredibly nice, professional, kind, and apologetic. He completely turned my opinion around on the experience I had earlier. If the company is in hands of people like Garrett, then I can trust they are going to care for their customers well. Thank you, Garrett! They have the worst customer service ever. After receiving a bill in the mail, I had to call 3 times to finallt get someone on the phone to ask questions about the bill. I was told someone would be in touch in June to schedule the pest controller to come out to our house. We did not hear anything all of June and decided to call in July. I called 4 times this time. I left messages which were not returned. When I finally got someone on the phone, I was told she couldn't help me and I had to talk to someone, but they were on the phone with another customer and she would call me back. I waited 1.5 hours and didn't hear anything. I decided to call back. No answer. I waited 30 more minutes and called and the person that answered was rude, sarcastic, and treated me like I was an idiot. I am highly disappointed in their customer service. read more

We have been a customer of Palmetto since purchasing our home in West Ashley 4 years ago. The quality of service has been consistently poor and our recent experience with them is unprofessional and quite frankly unacceptable. We have had to follow up several times to get service/inspection visits and even still, wait months more for the actual visit, only to have the tech show up hours late or not show at all. After our most recent visit, the tech told my husband that "all was good" and then last week, over a month later, we receive a statement in the mail that they are "not renewing" our contract. Though no "active infestation" is noted, the letter states, in bold, "any damage caused by the infestation is excluded." How did we go from "all good" by the inspector to not renewing our contract?? Shady much? NONE of the items described in the report, one of which - and I kid you not - is a bush that grows in our backyard - were discussed with either my husband or I. I completely understand terms of a contract but when there is ZERO communication with the customer about items that "need to be resolved" and then a notice of non-renewal is sent with no warning, it reads shady and extremely unprofessional. Especially when notated items include a bush that grows in our back yard and a water drip from the condensate line of our brand new HVAC - literally the purpose of the condensate line. If you're looking for honest, professional, quality work, I would STEER CLEAR of Palmetto Exterminators. read more

The technician who services my home is very nice. We have had some roach and rodent issues since we live on the Island. The tech promised 6 weeks ago that he would come to look and help put some rodent bait out where needed. He never came. Since I am not here full-time, and since I have to pay someone to come to let the exterminator in the house, I scheduled the technician to come to work on the interior in places where we have seen roaches while I am in town. I waited two hours past the scheduled appointment. When I called to see where he was, the receptionist told me he had come to do an outdoor service that I had not requested. First of all, he did NOT come for that as I would have seen him while I waited. Secondly, the receptionist who made the appointment had obviously messed up. And she was not even apologetic that they had made a mistake. So now I have roaches and rodents and I wasted a vacation day waiting on a service technician who never showed. This is not the way to do business and is not good customer service. read more

My house had a termite bond with this company when I bought it, so I kept it. There wasn't a problem till we moved out of state and it became a rental. One year we received our bill at our new address, the next year we did not. When I called to figure out why we had not been billed they had an address, phone number and property manager assigned to our account that was not ours. They claimed we gave them this information and they had documentation of it. Initially they told me I would not have to pay for a new bond since their system had the wrong info, then the sent me a bill for a whole new bond. When I called they said the errors were my fault and they needed to start a whole new bond. When I printed out the contract, they had a phone number on there that was not ours again. After placing this review a manager contacted me and did work with us to fix the issue. I was told that even though I updated my address on my bill that it goes to "corporate" and occasionally does not get updated in the system. Even though they did not charge me to restart my termite bond, the technician who went out to the house called me when I left explicit instructions to deal with our property manager. I was also given a link to use an online system for future checks that did not work. read more

We just spent $250 for a CL100 inspection of a historic house that we were interested in, in the town of Summerville. After receiving the report, it was obvious that it was a complete waste of money. The inspector was incapable of moving rolled in insulation that had fallen from the floor joist to actually inspect a large portion of the crawl space. The inspector noted at least twelve places in the crawl space that had termite damage that was no longer active, almost all of them right around the foundation, which implies that there was damage to the sill plate. The report had two photos of termite damage in the crawl space and both of them were floor joists that were in the center of the crawl, nothing around the foundation. To sister a floor joist is a two or three hundred dollar fix, to lift a house and replace a sill plate is a fifty thousand dollar fix, yet they focus on the the simple problems. They provided a fourteen page report of which ten pages spoke about how they were not responsible for any mistakes in their report, give me a break. Why would I pay that kind of money to get a professional opinion when I could have driven to the Home Depot and bought a white suit (chemical suit), gloves and a flashlight for thirty bucks and inspected it myself. REALLY disappointed. read more

They're okay. Just okay. Their evaluations to me see to be almost subjective and completely dependent on who they send out to conduct the inspection. Something is the same for years, then it needs to be corrected. In some situations with some companies, inspections seem to be based more on establishing a basis to deny coverage at a later date in case something comes up. Just my opinion. As far as pest prevention goes, puddles of whatever they spray around a door entrance made me wonder. Do I really need this much of something that kills living things? When their terminate inspector was at my house he said everything looked good. Then, later, I get a report pointing out alleged problems that need to be corrected. Again, some even pre-date my purchase of this property. Make no mistake, termite prevention is a necessity. I would just like more consistency in what is good and what needs to be worked on. They'll be back and I'll address the problems they 'wrote up', but it all seems to be more of an aggravation than is necessary. Almost like a home inspector. If he's told to inspect, he has to find something. read more

Absolutely miserable customer service. Buying a house and set up a free inspection to find out if the house was indeed bond able. No need for a CL 100. The owner assured us it would be at no cost, the tech assured us it was at no cost. We were intending on using their services, as they had been friendly and kind. They charged us $250 for their "free" inspection. After multiple calls to their office and speaking with a number of people, they refused to give our money back. I am reporting them to the bbb and would advise anyone looking for competent pest control to use any other company as they will hopefully not steal from clients. Just awful business. read more
