I asked for a rounded haircut with lots of layers and face-framing pieces and I showed her my inspo photos as well. She first washed my hair and then got started on the cut. Yessenia did an amazing job! She was friendly and professional and gave me exactly what I requested. I wasn't sure whether to go with lighter or heavier curtain bangs/face-framing pieces, and she knew exactly what would suit me when she suggested sticking with lighter face framing. She also somehow managed to style my frizzy Indian hair perfectly without using much tension on the brush, which was shocking to me. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Yessenia and Essence Salon and will definitely be returning!

I was looking for a hair refresh and wanted to lighten my hair/try out a balayage again after a few years of growing out my hair. She made the 5.5 hours fly by so quickly, was very easy to talk to (we yapped about so much!), and told me what she was doing in her process to put my mind at ease bc I told her I had trust issues after my last cut I had at a different place near me. I'm happy to say I think I found my new hair lady and am so glad I don't have to go to downtown sf. I did respond to her call for balayage hair models, so I received the service at a lower cost, BUT I will gladly pay for her rates in the future. Highly inappropriate conversation and uneven haircut…read more I recently visited Social Salon and unfortunately had an incredibly uncomfortable experience. Within the first three minutes, my stylist was using profanity and discussing graphic, sensitive topics (specifically a reality show scene involving sexual assault). As a client, I found it completely unprofessional to have to redirect the conversation away from such disturbing topics. To make matters worse, the haircut itself is visibly uneven--one side is noticeably longer than the other (as seen in the photo). I called to speak with the manager/owner to explain why I wouldn't be returning for a 'fix.' While she was apologetic and did issue a refund, she repeatedly tried to book a 'next appointment' and 'put a note in my file' for the future. It felt like my concerns about the stylist's conduct weren't fully heard; a refund is appreciated, but it doesn't excuse an environment that feels unsafe or unprofessional. I will be taking my business elsewhere to have the length corrected.
