I hate to admit that I actually shed a few tears after leaving Bahama Mama's earlier today. I went…read morein for a shellac pedicure and received my worst polish job to date. I literally just picked a hang nail/callused skin off my big toe as I typed this. The polish is uneven near my cuticles, it does not cover the sides of the nails, and there is plenty of polish stuck to the skin around my nails and cuticles. The tech dropped the UV light on my toe nails. I arrived and was greeted by no one. The nail tech asked if I was there for a pedicure and told me to pick a color. I clarified that I was there for shellac, to which the woman replied "oh no." I then waited 25 minutes so that she could run to her house and get the UV light, as she thought I was there for a regular pedi and was not prepared. After waiting 20 minutes, I moved my car because street parking was 1 hour. I confirmed at the desk that I was indeed scheduled for shellac. When she returned, she used the water that she had started with 25 minutes ago, which was then cold. I do not pamper myself very often and was really looking forward to having beautiful toenails. Now I am stuck with a bad polish job and am out $48 (40+20% tip). I am unbelievably disappointed and will most likely go to a different salon later this week to have them redone.

Next I tried All Teased Up, an unassuming, locally-owned business here in my new neighborhood. Catherine did a good job with my hair, and when I came back for my second visit, she remembered not only me but all the details of my cut. And the price was the same as SuperCuts. It's the best of both worlds! This salon has a friendly, casual vibe and I'm looking forward to becoming a regular. I haven't had my nails done in a while, and I knew I wanted them long, but since she'd already cut them flat, it was hard to tell. I said I thought they looked okay. Once she started shaping and filing, I realized they were way shorter than I wanted. While she did cut them before asking my preference, I also okayed it, so when I brought it up, I made sure to be apologetic. Still, she got upset and kept saying, "You said it was good," which I acknowledged and told her was my mistake. After that, though, she seemed flustered and irritated about fixing them. She rushed through the rest, and I could see the nails were coming out crooked, but at that point, I felt too uncomfortable to say anything. When she finished, she literally shoved my hand back and said, "Okay, you're done, goodbye." I was honestly shocked. The nails themselves don't look great, the tips are scuffed, the cuticles are messy, and a few are noticeably crooked. The older man there was really kind and kept offering snacks and free hand lotion, which I appreciated, but overall, I left feeling unwelcome and awkward. I wasn't upset with her originally, and took responsibility for my part, but the attitude and lack of care were disappointing. I don't think I'll be back.
