Went to the Sugar Mama in SE on Sunday. I was fairly nervous to get sugared (lip & brow maintenance) because I had never gotten sugared before and usually do my own grooming / maintenance and I wasn't sure how things would turn out. Scheduling was super easy online, I went to my appointment and asked a few questions which Bemnia answered and put me at ease. Her technique was super quick and not as painful as waxing. My brows and face looked great! The area was a bit red for an hour but I do have sensitive skin. Also make sure you deep clean your makeup brushes because I'm a ditz and forgot and ended up getting some pimples from using them on open pores/ fresh skin. I've been getting sugared monthly for years and this was one of the more awful experiences I've ever had. When I arrived, there were two women and they seemed annoyed that I stepped into the room. They weren't rude, just not friendly. My appointment was with Katie and she hardly said hello to me or gave me any instructions. I tried to make small talk but she wasn't into it, which alright, that's fine, I can work with that. But then the entire appointment she had a look on her like she was grossed out. I am a clean person so I am not sure if she felt some type of way or if that's just her concentration look. I could have brushed that off but to make matters worse, her technique was painful and it wouldn't get the hairs. She would pull at the sugar and it would only half come off slowly. And to top it all off, she waited way too long to change out the sugar for a fresh batch, so it was even more painful. It would pull at the hair as she slathered it on and then she couldn't yank it off. I've done this for years and I am telling you this technique was absolutely torturous. It doesnt have to be this way. I did appreciate that she took her time at the end to tweeze missed hairs. But when she left the room, I still had missed patches of hair here and there and I had SO much sugar on me that I couldn't get it off enough with the cold wipes she gave me and it was hard to get my pants on. I had to go home and shower to get it off. Plus, they are not competitively priced so it was not a cheap way to experience torture. I would not recommend this place, ESPECIALLY if you are new to sugaring. Terrible, expensive, unfriendly and painful. read more

The research I did helped me feel confident making the switch and I chose this place because their pricing was more reasonable than others yet still had strong reviews. Making my appointment online was really simple, too. Hannah was very welcoming and put me at ease. She explained things I had questions about and kept the environment relaxed. I got the full leg and basic bikini. So, a lot of skin. Was it painful? Nope. Did it feel good? Um... Hannah said that after awhile you get sort-of numb to it. That was accurate. I see her for extensions every 3 weeks and she has kept my lashes strong and healthy. Her studio is so adorable and she is my favorite to chat with during my hour long lash appointments. The studio was pretty dingy looking and the floors were straight up dirty. I got my legs done and noticed a few missed patches when I got home, and I've never left a sugaring with so much sugar left on me! I'm a huge advocate for sugaring vs waxing and pre COVID I was a regular at another salon for over a year. Moving from my previous provider, I booked with Hannah, she was amazing! Calm, efficient and knowledgeable. I also appreciate the efficient online booking process and availability. As for COVID precautions, I went to the location on Stark and there was only one room available for services so I was the only patient. We both wore masks, hand sanitizer was provided and Hannah also wore gloves (which she let me know was not a new safety precaution) I felt safe and comfortable. We're talking 1:1 the whole time, no open ceilings or receptionist / manager middle man bullshit. I got to pay the person who actually did the work. The whole experience was respectful in a genuine way. It's the place i wanna go cos it's a quality person who is there to deliver a quality experience. I saw Toni and she explained it's her craft-- every body has different hair growth patterns so hair removal is kinda like art. You need someone with an eye and an ability to do it well. I have always had Krystal but a scheduling mishap that resulted in my meeting Bemnia for the first time + receiving a foot scrub on the house. My goodness, Bemnia is a sweetheart! Fast, efficient, so personable... truly enjoyed my time chatting with her. I will say, she had some trepidation when it came to the extractions but I will chalk it up to not fully knowing my super high pain tolerance. Girl, next time, have your way with my pores! I had a sugar appointment with Hannah for a brow & lip and she did a great job! She shaped my brows so nicely and kept them thick and natural just the way i like them! Hannah is super sweet and makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. The office was a little tricky to find because it is upstairs in a shared building but i found it with a little help :) the office is cozy and clean - they are by appointment only so you're the only client there which makes it feel very private and relaxing.
