Don't judge a book by its cover! When Oleg's van pulled up it was not the most aesthetically pleasing sight. Nor was the smell emitting from the interior. Yet I could tell Oleg was genuine about his love for dogs so I gave him a shot. Our Siberian Husky walked out looking amazing! Better than our regular high end grooming salon that takes 2-3x longer and equally priced. The sheer convenience of zero travel, no crate time, and the ability to walk out your door to check on your dog anytime is invaluable. Oleg is the proof in the pudding! Our dogs Teddy (Wheaten Terrier) and Eli (Portuguese Water Dog) require frequent grooming and we've been frustrated by most groomers we have tried. We found out about Pampered Paws when we saw Oleg's van parked down the street in front of one of our neighbor's houses. We decided we'd give it a try! So far, Oleg has come twice to cut their hair - our dogs look amazing afterwards! Not only do they look good, but our dogs seem to really enjoy Oleg's company and they look like they're having a wonderful time getting their hair cut. Oleg is very knowledgeable about dogs, their haircuts, and does a very detailed grooming job. He also gave us great tips on how to maintain our dogs' hair. Really pleased with the experience here. I brought my dog in for a bath and brushing in the hopes that a groomer could help with his over abundance of winter hair. Now, his hair looks great and it isn't all over the floor! Additionally, I want to thank them for being gentle with Pumba, his black nails make it very difficult to trim without hitting a quick and he is very uncomfortable when someone tries to trim them. I'm glad that they listened to me and didn't try to force a trimming on a squirmy dog. Finally, I want to thank them for recommending a better brush for when his shedding resumes. While I can see H.B.'s point (the establishment was in fact, delightfully and charmingly messy and unkempt), unlike H.B., I did not consider that a "problem." My boys were eager to get in the door and we're excited to meet Oleg the groomer. This place has a very homey feel and not the most updated or organized place, which is why I think my dogs were so excited to go in. I'm not sure how all these reviewers are leaving out the biggest problem with this establishment - unorganized, smelly, messy, unprofessional, sketchy and dirty. I moved to the area, in need of a groomer so I stopped in to check out their place, and I couldn't believe my eyes, thought I was in a different third world country, not Lafayette. The overall condition of this business is absolutely unacceptable, I'm not sure how they pass any city codes. They may be nice people, but way, way too dirty. When my wife and I purchased our Wheaten Terrier, Maggie, we started looking for a groomer near us. It was not an easy task since a wheaten requires a special cut. Finally we found Oleg at Pampered Paws. When we brought her there, he told us, " Why do you want to cut her hair? She will never have this color hair again, let me give her a good bath and combing" I couldn't believe how honest he was. We now have been going there for 6 years and couldn't be happier. The quality of work is excellent, the price is very reasonable and the real testimonial is that our dog loves to go there even though she hates to be combed when we do it. I took my Standard Schnauzer, Haddy to Pampered Paws for the first time yesterday, 6.5/13. I looked online for someone in Lafayette/Martinez/Concord area. I read all of the reviews given for Pampered Paws and only one was negative. It did not bother me as everyone else had wonderful things to say. I took her to Oleg, she fell in love with him. He with her. When I picked her up I was absolutely amazed how beautiful she looked. She looked just like I had pictured I wanted her to. He had to adjust what had been done before by the previous groomer but I am very happy with the job he did. Oleg has a very good knowledge of his subjects. Good Going Oleg we will be back! read more

I took my standard poodle here a few times. They take FOREVER even if it is only one dog. The place was a mess - don`t go here.

I have two long haired dogs with thick undercoats. Oleg uses products which make them tangle free and clean looking for weeks. He gets out tangles, rather than cut them out. Every inch of our dogs is attended to, rather than just bathing and brushing. My dogs are happy to be groomed and relaxed and happy when we pick them up. I was a little concerned over the price and the fact that it was late in the day for my dogs to still be at the groomers, however; a week later I looked at my dogs and realized that you get what you pay for. They still looked as if they had just left Pampered Paws. read more

Best grooming/cuts my Maltese and Norfolk Terrier ever had!

I've been bringing my 2 Scottish Terriers here for over a year and have never had any problems with the place. It is in no way filthy-I am ashamed of the reviews here stating that. My Scotties are uncommon and Pampered Paws gets there cuts done right every time. My "moody" dogs are always happy to see the owners who are always pleasant to me and show genuine concern about my dogs. I'm from Chicago and have gone to many groomers who botch the Scotty cut up. I am very committed to supporting local businesses. I recently moved to the Lamorinda area and was looking for a pet groomer in order that I don't have to take my dogs into the city. Today was a very unfortunate interaction with this business. I called to see when they would have availability and they said tomorrow morning. That was GREAT! The person who I was speaking with asked what kind of dogs and I explained the breed, weight and hair length. I then asked what the cost of the grooming was for bathing and fermentation. The man on the phone said he could not give me any amounts until he saw the dogs. I asked to even understand if this is more like $25-50 base cost or more like $100 base cost per dog. The man decided to argue with me and hang up when I said I think it would be appropriate to give some sort of idea so I am not wasting my time. He continued to bark and me and I told him that unfortunately that because he was being difficult I would not be doing any business with him. I don't understand why businesses allow this type of customer service interaction or practices. I guess if you think your business has no volatility to bad press or reviews keep up your bad attitude. read more

We had to bring our dog to the vet after we left this place. He scammed us for $130 stating he did 2 hours of stripping. The vet said she was shaved, and so close to her skin there are cuts and nicks everywhere! This man should be held for animal cruelty. I am shocked that he got any positive feedback. Let me just say that if you love your pet, Pampered Paws should be avoided at absolutely all costs. The place is disgusting and the owner, Oleg actually threatened me after I called to complain about the thrid-rate hatchet job that they did on my dog. He has no clue whatsoever about dog-grooming...In fact, I would feel significantly more confident taking my dog to Petco or Petsaver to have their inexperienced teenagers groom my dog as opposed to going back to Pampered Paws. We even brought in a very detailed photograph of what we wanted our dog to look like (from a previous photo) and they simply did a cheap "buzz shave" job on our dog. A woman that my wife was talking with while waiting for our dog was also in disbelief when they brought our dog out after grooming. You should be ashamed of yourself, Oleg...and stop pretending that you know anything about grooming dogs. You're simply ripping people off. read more

As it was over 10 years ago (we just moved back to Walnut Creek) Oleg took in Fonzi with just 2 days notice. I had considered other grooming locations but could not forget their great service and grooming detail they had always provided. That is why we came back. End result ---- perfect cut. Oleg is stern but loving with them and even files my old guy's nails because he won't tolerate having them clipped or dremeled any more. They are true dog lovers here and while the facilities aren't fancy, the care and grooming is top notch! PLEASE do NOT take your pet here. We took our dog there for the first time last week. Groomer while cutting his nails cut him, but did not tell me about it when i picked up my dog. I found out about it when he was bleeding in the car. It is also FILTHY dirty, and that is just the reception area. Who knows what the back looks like where the dogs are. My dog was so stressed when he got out that he crashed the next day and ended up in the vet hospital for 2 days. I would NEVER ever use this business again. read more

Im all for local businesses....however, we had a not so good experience at Pampered Paws. The owners were very nice and friendly, but when we picked up our dog he had cuts on his inner ears. For two days after the grooming he wouldn't stop flapping his ears. We took him to the vet and it turned out he had one of the worst ear infections the Dr had ever seen. The infection had to be attributed to the grooming. Since our visit, our dog has been acting out of sorts and very frightened. The place itself is not clean or sanitary...go figure that my dog got an infection!!! read more

I just moved to Lafayette, I have a senior Bassett Hound and she is in need of bath, nails trimmed and glands expressed. I came across pampered paws and thought I'd give it a go. I called excited that I have possibly found a new home for my Hannah to get beautified. I spoke with Oleg, I'm assuming that is his name on the basis of other yelp posts I read after my horrible conversation I had with him!! I told him my name, Melissa, and that I'm new in town and was looking for a groomer. He replied extemely passive aggressive "well you call a grooming business, I've been doing it for 20+ years, so yah you called a groomer what do you expect?" So ok, everyone has a bad day, right? So I then started to ask him a question, and he gave me this huge sigh of utter disgust! I was speechless. I said, "wow I'm so sorry to have bothered you" and he hung up on me. I wish there was an option for 0 stars. If his horrible professionalism and rude phone manners Is the way he runs his business, I wonder how his quality of care is with animals who have no voice? This is unfortunate because I work at a local hospital with lots of friends who are pet owners, some live locally and love my Hannah.
