seaweed, sandbags, and 20 feet of shoreline on a good day. under the murky water? jagged rocks. Enjoy that beachfront. :(

Uuuuuggghhhh.... I feel SO bad for the people working here. Beach = unusable due to seaweed and erosion. Not their fault, but DO NOT BELIEVE the video on their website. It is very misleading. There's only about 20 feet of beach that you can use, once you get past the smell of seaweed, and the part where the shore meets the sand is mostly plastic sandbags and jagged rocks..so have fun with that. We went to Cozumel and Isla Mujeres to get some actual beach time. Which means we PAID to go somewhere ELSE. Good thing we paid the Panama Jack resort price for beachfront, right? Every night from 8 - ? PM they play TERRIBLE music LOUDLY. EVERY. DARN. NIGHT. From country to ACDC to Mexican Trap music. Last night? the soundtrack to Frozen at like 10PM. We went downstairs and got our room moved. The staff was so helpful and moved us so quickly that I suspect they get the request a lot. The food is beyond gross. I ate fruit and coffee. Every meal we ate at the resort consisted of a few bites before we became so disgusted, we gave up and went in town. I've had hospital food that's better. Of our 6 night stay? We tried eating in 3 times. The last time, I got physically ill off some food that had been sitting under a heat lamp for I don't even know how long. My bad for thinking a couple of chicken wings would be too little for even that to be messed up. The gym is serviceable as long as you don't mind cardio machines that either don't work or are LITERALLY held together with duct tape. Weights are good though. The grounds of the hotel are maze-like but very pretty. The resort was once called The Gran Porto Real (how do I know bc Panama Jack couldn't be bothered to change the logo on the robes), and it looks like Panama Jack just came in, slapped some decor up, and called it good. The worst part? The staff is SO FREAKIN NICE. It's like they know how bad the resort is and they're trying to make up for it. If I could give 0 stars I would, but the staff is too nice. So 2 stars because the employees are nice.

Wow! Panama Jack was perfect and the best inclusive resort that I have been to. Once we arrived at Panama Jack from the Cancun airport, our bags were instantly taken to our room and we were greeted with a fruit popsicle and drinks. We were taken away by our room. It was A very big room that was modern, clean, and had a lot of natural light. The balcony was our favorite part, it had a hammock and a dining set perfect for morning breakfast via room service. The bed was very comfortable and put me to sleep instantly. The pool and beach are all perfect. The pool is big enough to where you can chose the level of liveliness that you want to swim in or lay out in the sun by. You can chose the be around a lot of people or just a few: it is big enough to relax or party. The music at the pool is also very relaxing and uplifting. The beach was great with blue water and white sands. It's views were perfect for pictures and a great way to compliment their oceanfront bars and restaurants. They had many all Inclusive restaurants on spot. My favorite restaurant at Panama Jack was the Brazilian steakhouse. It was on caliber with American Brazilian steakhouse chains such as Texas de Brazil or forgo de chao. The quality of the food at all their restaurants made it feel as if it were not an all inclusive resorts. The buffet always offered new dishes for its visitors and it was large enough to offer a wide selection. The Italian restaurant on spot (Bella) was very good and had an upscale feel to it. It was great to have pasta and pana Cotta in outdoor seating along the walkways of Playa del Carmen. Their Mexican restaurant was more than perfect: this was our outlet to trying authentic Mexican dishes. The Mexican tacos were so good we had to order it more than once. The sushi place is also very good, definitely worth a couple visits. The spa was unbelievable. From the sauna, peppermint steam room, cold bath, and hot tub: it was very easy to detox and relax before getting a massage and further pampered. Thankfully when we got there, they had a 20% off promotion of all spa packages. Luckily we were able to secure a massage for two for 80 mins which only came out to $200! Such a great experience. Another thing to mention is that Panama Jack is within walking distance to fifth avenue and right on the beach. It is perfectly located in Playa. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. They all speak English and are quick to have an open conversation with you. You will have made many friends with the workers here who will know you by your first name. I love Panama Jack Resorts, it was well worth the money. I will take back experiences I will remember for life! - Ansel Ponce Diama

I went here to help my friend celebrate her 10th Year wedding anniversary. It supposed to have eight different restaurants or should I say places to eat included with the all inclusive resort; which was ideal if you don't want unnecessary bills every single day and have your entire stay already paid off before going into your vacation. Our transportation was also arranged by Cancun tours for $20 round trip "to & from" the CUN airport. Playa del Carmen is about an hour from Cancun. Expect to be greeted by their employees as soon as you get out of your vehicle. They will gather your bags and help you bring it to your room (you need to bring singles for tips, because they expect it). Remember, they have 8 restaurants, unfortunately only 6 are open. When they say 8 restaurants that includes Starbucks lol! Yeah I didn't know that until I got there. Their website doesn't lists all the restaurants; so the only restaurant open for a real is a Mexican and Italian restaurant (both serve breakfast, lunch, & dinner. For snacks, you'll either have sushi at the 2nd pool near the tranquility pool, Panama jacks bar, or Starbucks. The hotel has two swimming pools and a jacuzzi which is located at the roof top. Housekeepers are really good in keeping the room very clean and organized. A different person comes in to change the drinks in your room refrigerator daily. Though if you want more of the specific beverage just let them know and they will add less or more of the other. The resort is right on the beach, but unfortunately its very rocky on some areas so be careful. They do offer free kayaks at specific times and if the tides are safe. One of the person that works on the kayak did say that they've spotted sharks around the area near the docking so take a lookout for that too. A bar right off the beach is also very ideal especially when you just want to enjoy the view. The resort has a daily program to help people be acquainted with the other guests, but the night program is a little lame. We came in right after dinner around 8pm and it was over and the pool area was empty LOL. I've been to a lot of resorts and 8pm is when all the good times happen, this one is quite the opposite. Overall, I like this place. Good deal and right off the beach. I do hope that they offer more restaurants and food choices.

How anyone's posts less than a 5 star is beyond me. The service is unmatched anywhere I've been in the world ( I could write a while paragraph on this alone, the staff are just over the top amazing), the food is fresh and delightful, accomodations are clean and comfortable. The one downside if I must find something is that the beaches are not the best but that has zero to do with the resort and just about the location off the coast. Already booking another trip for next year and we've only been here 24 hours.

My partner and I came for A little getaway for about a week. Everything about this resort was amazing from the Food, to the decor, to the amazing staff. From the pool you can see the beach and you're literally 10 feet away from the beach. They have a bar right next to the pool which is very convenient when you're swimming. This is an all inclusive resort so I was a little skeptical if the food and drinks were going to be good, i'm happy to say there was about three or four restaurants and they have multiple things on their menus and everything is delicious. Alcoholic drinks are included which was a huge plus and the bartenders are all so fun. We had a mini fridge in our room which had beers and water and when our housekeeper would clean our room they would restock the fridge which it was very much appreciate it. They did everything in their power to keep everyone safe from the spread of Covid, such as cleaning, wiping everything down, sanitation stations everywhere as well as enforcing masks. They also provided antigen testing in order for us to get back to the states and that was accepted by our airlines (American) The only downside was they didn't have a shuttle from Cancun airport but they do help set you up with the taxi so that was appreciated. They're down the street from local transportation such as the ADO so that is a cheaper form of transportation to the airport vs a taxi. We will definitely be coming back here next time we come to Playa Del Carmen!

Formerly Gran Porto now panama jacks resort I travel a lot and wanted to make sure I choose my next destinations resort wisely. With recommendations from others playa Del Carmen was a desired destination. This resort is absolutely worth it and will make your vacation perfect. 7 different places to eat including a cafe style coffee bar, sushi restaurant, Brazilian steak house, variety of nightly themed food at the buffet. Day and nightly entertainment all day Everyday 3 minute walk to the shopping strip "5th ave" We did The excursions like Coba, Tulum & "Adventuras maya tours "; which is a 3in 1 park for ATV/ziplining/cenote. The company picks you up from the hotel lobby no problem. The cenote here was absolutely breathtaking couldn't believe how beautiful it was. I wish we would've stayed more than 5 nights after seeing how awesome this resort was!! Pleasantly surprised!! Last but not least the wait staff at the resorts several restaurants are professional, polite and personable. Being in the food/bar industry myself good service is greatly appreciated! We had Our last dinner tonight at the Italian restaurant at Panama jack. The waiters Gerardo & Antonio really made our last night memorable with their recommendations and attention. Thank you all for an amazing week that will never forget!

We were here during Hurricane Zeta, and although we were unhappy about being stuck in our room for almost a full 24 hours, I have to say I was very pleased with how well organized they are for bad weather. We were moved to their "shelter" which was another room facing the street, and they brought us dinner and breakfast, as well as coffee. We heard rumors the hotel across the street put everyone in one large conference room on the ground during the hurricane. Restaurants aren't serving as much food, buffet was really only during breakfast and I wonder if that's probably just because of COVID. The food was excellent! They were so accommodating with my gluten sensitivity, even at the Italian restaurant! Sergio was by far my favorite, leading activities. He got to know everyone's name that was staying there the week we were there, and I felt that was a nice touch. Raquel, my masseuse, at Aura was off the hook!! Best massage I've ever received!!! I typically don't make it a habit of returning to places I've already been to, but I will definitely have to come back!

We had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing at each restaurant and unique. We had so many positive experiences with many different employees. We would come back here.

I was not approached by anyone offering to sell me anything or attend presentations. Staff were super friendly and helpful during our stay. There's a main pool and a quiet pool. I wish that there was more Mexican themed shows or music but I guess they try to accommodate that the majority of guests were from Canada and USA. Some of the restaurants rotate being open for dinner. Your best bet is to make reservations ahead of time. You can always show up but might have to wait depending on the time. Overall food was good. Drinks were ok but as a social drinker, I wasn't impressed with my 1-2 drinks/day during my stay. I think I had one drink that I found really good. Beach area is not private and you might have people approach you to sell you stuff or services. A polite "no, thank you" works great. Do NOT Book Your Wedding Here…read more They turned our wedding week (March 14 Wedding) into a nightmare so I want to warn every couple considering Mahekal for their wedding. What should have been the most magical week of our lives was repeatedly hijacked by the gross incompetence and dishonest practices of this resort's wedding team. And to be clear - we had a separately hired a wedding planner because by November we already knew Mahekal was not providing any support. We went into our wedding week thinking everything was settled without any warning of all the problems Mahekal was going to spring on us: - They lost track of $10,000 which we paid over SIX MONTHS ago. Totally unaccounted for in their system and we had to prove our payment history while onsite for our wedding. - They attempted to charge a $7,000+ penalty, claiming our room block had not been fulfilled through the code. We blocked 40 rooms and had 107 guests staying on property. We had to spend hours cross referencing the list they had which they didn't even have prepared for our meeting, with our list of guests which we had given them. We lost 4 hours to prove their botched webpage caused this issue. - What is truly unforgivable is Mahekal had an entire month after the room block deadline to communicate these issues to us. Instead, they waited until we arrived for our wedding to spring these problems on us due to their poor mgmt. We spent hours each day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, AND Friday trying to clean up their messes, ruining our moods and taking time away from family and friends. - The front desk charged us $930 for an upgrade that was explicitly supposed to be complimentary. When we checked in they didn't even have us noted as the wedding couple and did absolutely nothing special for us - no rose petals, no welcome gift, nothing but headaches. When I brought the upgrade charge up to Laura, the in-house "wedding coordinator," she showed me on her monitor that their system had the upgrade documented as FREE... I showed her the additional $930 charge on my credit card. She took over a day to find the charge in their system and promised to work with the front desk to return this but has not responded to me or my wedding planner when we followed up. - We didn't get an adequate room even with the purchased upgrade so I couldn't take any getting ready photos. When we toured they showed a room with a living room which was not made available to me. Total bait and switch. I spent 9am to 1:30pm of my wedding day with just vendors because of this... They also do NOT have a bridal suite which is another sign they are not equipped to handle weddings. - I specifically and clearly requested mahi mahi NOT be served as the fish entrée option at our wedding and Laura said she would work with the chef... At our reception I took a bite of the fish and informed my husband it was mahi mahi and he gave me half his chicken... - For our welcome party, we were charged $450 for three infused water dispensers, a "water bar" we had approved for our outdoor cocktail hour (where it made sense given the heat despite the open bar). Instead, Mahekal applied it to the wrong event entirely; the welcome party which was hosted in a covered space with fans (La Cocina) for which we were already paying for a three-hour open bar. I didn't even see this water bar but whether it was there or not, they scammed us out of $450 because they can't even track a single add-on without messing up. - It's obvious now that we were shown updated rooms when we toured a year before our wedding. What we actually arrived to were cracked floors, broken AC, and toilets with rusted flush buttons. We stayed at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, an actual 5-star resort, for 3 nights after our wedding to decompress from the stress Mahekal had caused. Mahekal felt like a beach motel in comparison. Mahekal is not just incompetent, they are predatory: waiting until you are emotionally and logistically vulnerable so they can hold one of the most important events of your life hostage. The individuals responsible for this horrible experience were Laura Elena Castellanos Patino and Maria Elena Armenta. The only thing I wish for them is Karma. Thankfully, we ended up having a wonderful wedding reception thanks to friends and family, and those memories are slowly replacing our horrible encounters with the resort staff.

I rarely write negative reviews, but this stay was a major disappointment. The biggest letdown was…read morethe buffet -- very underwhelming food, repetitive options, and not what you would expect from a resort at this price point. Every day we hoped it would improve, and every day it was the same disappointment. The only saving grace of the entire stay was the poolside food and the service there, especially Armando, our poolside server, who was amazing. He was attentive, friendly, and provided the best service we experienced the entire trip. Unfortunately, that was the only consistently positive part of the experience. Another major issue: there is a large family of raccoons living on the property, and they fight loudly over food at night. This isn't a small nuisance -- it kept multiple members of our family awake across several rooms. On top of that, Friday night there was a rave next door that played music until 6 a.m., and again, no one in our group could sleep. For a resort that's supposed to be relaxing, this was unacceptable. Also, be aware there are no TVs in the rooms and there is basically no entertainment around the pools. There was a speaker out there at times, but it was inconsistent on what days it was even set up, and when it was, the music was very low and you could barely hear it. The resort felt very quiet and honestly a bit boring because of this. Fuego restaurant was just okay -- not terrible, but nothing memorable and definitely not enough to make up for the rest of the food on the property. The icing on the cake was checkout. They literally radio someone to go check your room to see if you took any minibar items before you can leave -- and what were they checking for? A small bottle of Evian water. It felt cheap and tacky and was a very disappointing way to end the trip. Overall, this resort did not live up to expectations, and I would not stay here again. There are far better options in the area for the price.

Because they're a wellness resort, they have all of these classes (cacoa ceremony, movement class, yoga, astrology, etc) where you could interact with other guests. They have a taco stand where they make watermelon tacos. I could go on and on about the food. This place almost converted my husband to be a vegetarian- that's how good it was. They make all their cocktails with OR WITHOUT alcohol and they taste just as delicious. If I could live at this property, I really would. Highly recommend going as a couple, group or even solo. It will leave you more grounded and at peace.

We rarely visit the same place twice (and aren't even really resort people) but we're already talking about going back. All of the restaurants are mostly/default plant-based, but there are non-vegan substitutions (and Palmaia is connected to a typical mainstream resort, Sandos, that guests have full access to as well). But also, Palmaia's food is so good I wouldn't recommend changing it or eating elsewhere! We ate conchas and tacos nearly every day. And the pastas at Mar de Olivo were superb! Additional advice: advantage of the wellness classes, the gym, and the beachside taco truck!

Outside of the gates is a whole different story. It's pretty intense out there with the police being fully militarized. They have machine guns mounted to trucks they stand on and ride around just for the presence, there are tons of people wanting to take advantage of dumb Americans at every turn. Watch yourself if you travel alone in Cozumel. It's designed solely to attract tourists. That draws out some colorful personalities in my experience. Traveled with ease from the oh so lovely Cancun International Airport. Interesting spot to say the least. We were warned not to communicate or accept anything from anyone except our driver. We arrive to the hotel really excited, somewhat cautious, and ready to have some fun. We were greeted at the front door and we handled a little paperwork, and then we were taken to our room by a wonderfully helpful chap. He showed us around the room, gave us a quick run down of the grounds, described the amenities, food situation, and some other pleasantries. He talked about the dining situation and gave us a map tour so we're would know how to navigate the grounds. They have a cool locker system in each room. The service folks just leave your anything in the locker and you don't have to interact with them at all. They just let you know it is there. Nice feature. The grounds themselves are absolutely gorgeous! It is so well kept, the attention to every detail goes so far beyond a normal resort. They comb the beach every morning. I kid you not. They seriously rake the entire shoreline before dawn. They also run a tractor to clear the seaweed from the beach. Insane dedication to making your stay great. The restaurant situation is so fucking rad. They have just about any food you might want covered between the what seemed like a dozen restaurants at the resort. I ate and ate and ate and ate.... I ate between meals, I ate between those meal and snack times. We had so much food!! Every dinner was 5-8 courses. I'm positive I could stay right here forever and never leave. Food heaven!! Spa is great too! It's a lovely relaxing oasis of self care. That's another review, but it's great. Don't take my word for it. Go for yourself! Cold plunges are good for the soul! They have shows every night in the theater and there was some sort of event being held every night in the common area. Some were private, others public. They construct stages, eating areas, weddings, happy hours with bands, and even corporate conferences. It's pretty wild the amount to building and tearing things down the do here. We rented a cabana bed one day and at the end of the day the built and transformed the beach into an elaborate engagement spot with candles everywhere, flowers, and a table for two. Very nice touch! All in all a fantastic experience. My only gripe was that the room smelled of mildew and/or too music moisture. C said something about it when we got there but it wasn't that noticeable to me. When I got home and unpacked my suitcase is when it hit me. There were clothes that I did not wear, just sat in the drawers and repacked, they all had to be washed as they smelled terrible after being packed and transported back home. I would come back monthly if possible. Nice place. '26 - 74

I never had any bites until I left the resort my last night for a wedding ! - food: We ate at both restaurants and the food was excellent. Especially the shrimp and octopus dishes. Cocktails were done right! Not watered down like other places . - beach - this resort seems to have the best beach area as compared to nearby resorts with actual sand The pool is a perfect size and was never crowded . Pepe and staff always took care of you. -gratuity - 16% service was added automatically to your bills. This is not an all inclusive , for the quality of service we made sure to bring $USD to add tip for everyone. They all work so hard in the heat to make your experience memorable! -Spa - Splurge for this! Best way to start our days first thing with massages and facials . You can also use the jacuzzi and steam room daily without services. I frequent Burke Williams and their masseuses are good , strong too ! They did our services outdoor for couples in this serene area with a fountain running. -room - we enjoyed the premium villas, super spacious with walk in closet, shower and bath tub . All the villas are close so a short walk to the pool - There is a little bass coming from the next door resort's DJ at night, but when I closed the windows , it was very muffled and did not bother us at all. - long drive from main road - so expect a secluded spot . They will call you a taxi that gets there in 20 min. Download WhatsApp and text the same taxi will take you back. Felt safe ! We can't wait to come back someday! Definitely highly recommend this place for all couples who just need to relax.

From the welcome coconut drink and cool towels to the thorough tour ( thanks Claudia) ,check in was a great experience. Bellmen we're very friendly and helpful. And our villa was just gorgeous! Heated plunge pool, hammock, and more great you as you enter the area. You are in the jungle, so there is a lot of natural privacy. Inside the villa, you will be caught up in the romantic vibe thanks to the sweet and decadent decor. Outdoor shower brings you close to nature. Many special touches await. Poolside is another area to be spoiled- by Pepe and crew. They will get you anything you want, no need to lift a finger. And the wait staff at Coral restaurant are very thorough. They seem more like personal butlers rather than waiters, taking the time to get to know their guests by name, and learning their food and drink preferences. This area is also beautiful, with a view of the ocean. And the spa is very relaxing, access to the spa facilities including the steam room, jacuzzi is complimentary with your stay. Viceroy isn't without its flaws. The small beach is barely swimable due to the coral/rocks. And though they work to remove the seaweed, if you come from May-Nov that will be somewhat of a pain ( the whole area not just here). And there is music that drifts over from the next door hotel which at times annoys. It wasn't too bad while we were here, but was noticiable. There are mosquitos and rainforest animals around, so if you're not okay with seeing agouti while eating breakfast on your patio, this isn't your place. And yes it's pricey. Nevertheless the quality, service, and beauty of this resort make up for any issues. We didn't want to leave!

It is a huge resort with 18 included restaurants, bars, pools, and beaches. You also have access to all of the different parks which is an amazing perk. Our room was pretty big with two queen beds. It had a jacuzzi and hammock in the balcony. We didn't have a stellar view, but I can only imagine if you did. I also never thought that I would say this, but room service came way too many times. They would come 2 to 3 times a day, and once even asked if we needed room service at 9pm LOL. We mainly ate at the buffet, which did not need a reservation, and it was pretty good. Our overall consensus was that the food here was very diverse and yummy, but was too salty. We don't drink, so I have no comment on that. The infinity pool was pretty nice, but I wish it had a direct view of the beach. There was a river surrounding the hotel, which blocked the view. The beach was pretty accessible though, and the water was very clear. There was a lot of seaweed in it though and it was more rocky than sandy which made it hard to lay our towels down. Overall, though, the service was great and we had a great time here. I would definitely recommend it because we didn't pay for the trip haha.

I was pleasantly surprised how clean the resort is and how courteous the service was. Most employees speak English. I speak Spanish fairly well so I had no issues communicating. There are extensive food options including all day buffets, restaurants, group dining and room service. The buffets lean toward traditional Mexican / Yucatán fare, however, it's not overly spicy. The bakery items are fantastic and not overly sweet. The only Michelin restaurant in Mexico is here at Xcaret. So check that out if you happen to visit here. There are several parks which include water adventures, ATV rentals, zoo & aquariums, history, zip lining etc. I was able to go to the Xplor park for an afternoon when I had some downtime. It was interesting and I had a good time. The cemetery was fascinating. I posted some pictures below. There is no shortage of pools here and every hotel section has its own. The main one that over looks the beach area fills up quick in the am. There are two gyms I believe and a spa which books up quickly so plan in advance. The beach is small and it's a bit of a walk to get to. Chairs and loungers get snapped up quickly early in the day. Security here is "air tight." What I mean the grounds are patrolled by armed guards and there are several checkpoints on the roads going in and out. You have to present your wrist band when entering and leaving with the exception of being on the bus. I was there for a corporate trip and we utilized a rental car to transport our executive staff to and from the airport. Even with the stringent security, the process was fairly easy for us. Checkout is a little odd. You go to the lobby with the letter (bill) that they slide under the door the night before you leave. If you owe nothing, you hand over the letter and wrist band and you're on your way. Large groups that arranged transit via bus was a whole different matter. They had those people wait on long lines to hand over the letter and wrist band and then wait for the bus. It looked a bit convoluted and confusing. Overall I personally had a good experience. The food and service were top notch in my opinion. The time I was able to enjoy the pool and park were nice as well. This was a work related trip and I'll definitely keep it in mind for a future vacation.

For two of the restaurants, you have to get in line to reserve them which I heard it's difficult to get but they offered us to buy a bottle of wine ($60) and they would do the reservations for us the whole week, so we opted for that to save us time. Mike's coffee shop is great to get a coffee and pastries. It is also nice to cool down in there with ample seating. There's a bowling alley for the kids. We say that you to do about 40 minutes each is about a full game. They have shows during the night in their theater and outside, which were pretty entertaining. My favorite is the Michael Jackson. The Italian restaurant was my favorite because of the service and the ambience. The Perez Bella restaurant near the ocean had great food and great views of the ocean. Keep in mind all the restaurants are strict on tank tops and coverups. For breakfast, they mainly have the buffet. I really enjoyed the buffet because they have a variety of food and it's different each day. We did go to the buffet once for dinner, which was a Saturday and it was a Mexican day and they had ceviche and different types of Mexican dishes. Their Mexican dishes are very authentic. The rooms were nicely laid out, and the housekeeping was on it. I will say the bathroom tile is little rundown and needs some maintenance. At night the raccoons, Coati, and cats come out which was fun to see.

The beach, which was one of the main reasons we chose this resort, was completely covered with sargassum (seaweed). The amount of sargassum made it impossible to enjoy the beach or swim in the ocean. Unfortunately, this was not clearly communicated before our arrival, and it significantly impacted our vacation experience. In addition, the hotel's location and transportation options made it difficult to go anywhere without significant inconvenience. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation became frustrating and stressful. The overall experience did not meet the expectations set by the hotel's advertising or reviews. Between the unpleasant smell, the unusable beach, and the lack of accessibility, we left feeling very dissatisfied. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this hotel and would not choose to stay here again.
