Great place but no signs to help you get around. Took at least a full day to figure everything out. Don't bother waiting on a shuttle. Flag them down like a taxi. I'd never stayed at an all-inclusive resort before, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Full disclosure - my friend brought me along on her annual family trip for free, so I cannot attest to the cost of anything, or the value spent for the money. What I can tell you is I would likely not spend my own money to stay here and would opt for another all-inclusive in the area instead. My party stayed for an entire week and I just thought it was okay. The property is beautiful, but it could also definitely use some TLC. We had a swim up room which was great. I have 0 complaints about it at all. The AC cooled easily, the beds were incredibly comfy and housekeeping was great. I really appreciated being able to choose my pillows and aromatherapy scents for turn down service at check in. I will tell you that outside of the water in front of building 40, all other pools had very warm water that was not enjoyable. It felt like stepping into a jacuzzi. Also, I fully understand the beach conditions are due to Mother Nature and out of their control, but you really cannot enjoy the beach here. The ocean was full of seaweed and so was the beach. There were workers out there trying to clean it up from sunrise to sunset to no avail. I didn't see anyone spending time on the beach the entire week we were there because it just wasn't a pleasant place to be. Also, the solicitors were ruthless the minute we set foot on the sand because they're allowed to sell their products there. I will say, I do believe this is on the resort to some extent because we went to Moroma on an excursion and their stretch of beach was 100x better. We actually could enjoy the day on the sand and getting into the ocean. If you're thinking of booking a stay here because you're envisioning spending your days relaxing on the beach, DO NOT choose this resort. I also have to say the food was just okay. None of the restaurants really stood out to me except the Italian one! By the end of the week, I was tired of eating at all of them except for that one. I do think all of the staff was incredible. On 15Jul26 my wife and I were assaulted in room 3227 as royal retreat members who did not receive an upgrade for this room. Our "neighbor" Phil got so black out drunk that he assaulted my wife, his wife, and myself. Phil banged on our door telling my wife "she's a woman, clean up the shit outside". The "outside" mess was room service trays house keeping had left outside. I attempted to talk to Phil outside in my robe, one handed covering myself, to let him know that we did not leave the items there. Phil proceeded to push me with both hands, then punch me in the face twice, my wife once, and his wife consistently. At this point I went inside to get dressed and let security know what happened. It took multiple phone calls and alerts to the butler office to finally get security to our room. In the meantime Phil continued to break and throw dish-ware all over or communal stairs while beating his wife in real time. During this time he continued to punch our mutual wall and break more stuff in the room. After this security finally put him back in his room. We were told since Phil had his room longer than us, it was unlikely he would be removed. It took me threatening to call the local police for them to evict him. ELIZABETH assistant manger at the time came to our situation and assured us we would be taken care of. At this point there was well over a dozen staff and a dozen of our casita mates watching the situation. Incredibly embarrassing. My wife and I decided to not address it until our pre-check out as Elizabeth had assured us we'd be taken care of. Once we arrived in Casitas lounge to do our pre-check out: Sergio had said he'd heard all about our assault and would have the manager there for us, and asked us to get a drink and come back for her. We arrived 15 minutes later to speak with ELIZABETH who immediately LAUGHED in our faces. She said "we already kicked him out, what else do you want?" I explained to her we only wanted that day of the event off our reservation and we would pay for our spa and premium dinner and the entirety of our stay besides that. ELIZABETH reiterated that Lomas policy is to NEVER refund guest and we'd have to reach out to customer service. When I asked for their information she said she didn't have it, and finally relented to writing it on the backside on another guests information. Not realizing that she gave us their information. Elizabeth further told me she "will not" let me speak to the GM, and to "figure it out through email." I've traveled extensively internationally in the military and as a civilian and hand NEVER been treated with such contempt as ELIZABETH showed us. We had the pleasure of staying at El Dorado Royale as a mini honeymoon after our wedding in Mexico. Honestly this resort is fantastic! The rooms, restaurants, amenities, shops and bars are amazing and the food itself is way better than most all inclusive resorts. The swim up suites are heavenly too. Seriously, what could be better than stepping out on your patio into your own pool and spending the day in the sun? The pools do connect to a lazy river that you can take to end up in a main pool with a swim up bar or you can stay at your own pool for the day and have cocktails delivered directly to you (included with your suite!). One final perk is that all room service is included as well, I know it sounds too good to be true but it is! We ordered breakfast on one occasion and late night burgers on another. Pleasantly surprised with that service and perk! Regarding any cons, two things I'll warn about: the beach access is limited and the good spots are marked off for VIP members. Also, the resort will try to heavily sell you their membership package and will offer comps like a candlelight dinner on the beach to get you in the door. Just know that if you're not interested in a future membership then it's best not to even entertain them otherwise you'll spend hours listening to unnecessary sales pitches. read more

EDR is a beautiful resort. We are members so the service is impeccable. The only downside is you cannot swim in the ocean, it's very rocky. The restaurants are delicious but do not miss the burgers at Kick they are some of the best on the whole property! Another favorite is Kempai the Thai restaurant. Enjoy! read more

I went here last week with 5 friends for a girls trip. We had high hopes for this place, but had a very mixed experience. First, we booked three rooms with 2 double beds each, but 4 of us were given two rooms with a king to share. When we called Lomas, they said they couldn't help, and that we get what we get (even though it wasn't what we booked). Eventually we got our concierge to sort it out and moved to the correct rooms after a couple of nights. Second, the people who handle the excursions were generally rude and uncommunicative. We had booked a trip to Chichen Itza, but found out when we arrived that the site was closed and our trip was cancelled. This was only after we asked about it at the desk. They refused to transfer our funds to a different trip (Tulum) and wanted us to pay for the new trip and request a refund for the cancelled one (which would take 10-15 business days). Our concierge suggested that any refund was unlikely and we would have to get the credit card company to dispute the payment (this was not a small amount of money). Other trips were also cancelled due to weather, and the only way to find out about the cancellation was to ask at the front desk on the scheduled day. This group also handles the airport shuttles. Before we even arrived in Cancun, they asked us to fill out forms for our flights so they could schedule the shuttles. When we arrived, they didn't seem to have any of this information, even though I filled out these forms for each of my friends myself. They took information for 3 of us at the airport and asked us to confirm the return trip at the resort. We did this, again with mixed results. A couple of us confirmed our return shuttle and were given lobby pickup times, some of us gave our information at the desk and were told to come back to get a pickup time, and one of us was given a pickup time 5 hrs before her flight. Only I received a confirmation text for my pickup time. Most of us didn't have a pickup time the night before we left, and the one friend with a super early time called Lomas to try and reschedule for a shuttle an hour later and they refused, said it was full, and hung up on her. Luckily the guy who sent me my confirmation text (Ivan) was super helpful and got everyone sorted out. The shuttle my friend ended up taking, the one that was "full" ended up only have my two friends on board a 12-person van... The excursions we did go on were again a mixed bag. The eco ranch/spring/cenote option was okay. The shuttle dropped us off 30 min before our guide came to get us, so we were standing around sweating in the heat for far longer than necessary (shuttle drove us 2 min from the lobby). We were the only ones to swim in the spring, then you just go and look at a bunch of farm animals. The catamaran trip, that we finally got to do on the last day, was fun and definitely worth it. Snorkeling was great and then we hung out on the beach until 5pm. They also had really good el pastor tacos. Third, the guy at the front reception desk offered to upgrade my friend if she "went out to dinner with him". She is married with two kids and he was probably about 20 yo. Overall, creepy and uncalled for. Other stuff was fine. Food was hit or miss, mostly bland and unexciting. I think our best meals were at the Italian restaurant for dinner, and La Isla and the pizza place for lunch. Had a decent breakfast buffet every morning. Wait staff were all pretty friendly and accommodating. Drinks were very watered down. We took tequila shots at one point and they didn't effect any of us in the slightest. The coffee place up in Casitas was good, and on multiple occasions they opened early (8am). They also had ice cream and some of the staff knew how to make an iced drink (one guy steamed the milk before pouring it over ice...). The grounds were well kept, the pools clean, and most days towels were easy to come by. We even acquired a coconut or two during our stay. Unfortunately the beach pool was closed and the swimmable beaches were all up at Casitas and Generations (even though the seaweed this time of year makes this a moot point). I was here, like many others who have reviewed, for a wedding. Overall I can see how this is a convenient location for a wedding, as there are multiple locations across the resort and it's adjacent sister properties to accommodate the events. However as a resort I found this place very underwhelming. The rooms are dark: I had a junior suite with a beach view and all I saw was w huge palm tree obstructing any ocean view, mind you the water palms were needing some pruning! The rooms also are not entirely clean. I had little ants all over my room. My fellow travelers reported that there wasn't any hand soap in their room. I will also echo the absolute lack of room service! I called to order French fries and cake--it never arrived. Similar stories from fellow guests were echoed in attempting to order simply a pot of coffee. Food overall is ok--many of the breakfast places will not have have enough food in the buffet line or even have all of the food out--over 40 minutes past opening. The restaurants requiring a reservation are almost always booked up. The beach is not really for swimming as the beach front has these large cement structures in the water. Stay away from the Time share Voltures called "Exotic Travelers" Their contribution to the property is to guarantee Lomas/Grupo Lomas (the owners) a level of occupancy. Their guarantee of reduced rates can also be had thru an Internet search at "no cost" unlike the Exotic Time Share BS. Thru "their" time share club you will not be able to reserve a beach front room with any of their (2) ammenities. Anyway the service from the Hotel staff is really good, the assortment of restaurants and their food is good only 1 buffet (for beakfast). The grounds are beautiful and mostly kept up. There's really no beach to speak of. The liquor served at the bars and Restaurants are low end unless "Top Shelf" is requested. Overpriced and overhyped. Traveled here for a wedding. That was absolutely beautiful right next to the ocean. The service was top notch and the reception was lots of fun. As I wasn't part of the planning, I can't say which parts were from the resort or an outside vendor. Friends and family were thrilled and that's what matters most. The resort itself was largely underwhelming. The property is dated and the rooms are dark (surprising since you're in all day sun). The check in process was extremely slow and the room was not ready at the 3pm check in time. Rooms were clean and serviced daily. However, at check in I was asked to pick from ~8 pillow options and a signature scent and never received turn down service or either of those selections in my room (turned out to be a waste of time). So you're here for the all inclusive aspect. Most restaurants require reservations and are sometimes difficult to get into. There's also some missing details from the options - eg. health bar shows on the breakfast menu but only serves juice until 11. To be honest there should be a full tutorial on the options or just provide all of the menus and details upfront. You're on vacation and should have to struggle to make arrangements. For room service you have to watch channel 5 to see the menu flip through. I recommend taking pictures so you have time to read the menu and decide without having to watch it go by multiple times to see each item. The room service line rarely answers on the first try, has you wait on hold for up to 10 mins, and takes about 1 hour or more to be delivered. It's always busy for lunch, busy due to rain outside, busy after all restaurants close at 10...at some point you're just not prepared for the volume or to live up to the service standard. Once you cross the hurdles to get food, you'll be lucky if your order is correct and all items are included. Overall, the food is mediocre at best. The presentation is lacking and quality is ok. They boast about the quality and fresh ingredients from the nearby farm, but that is not apparent when you're at the property. Logistics on site are a nightmare. Specifically the golf carts. They are hard to come by and seem to be the biggest challenge due to the size of the resort. The timers on the shuttle stops are inaccurate and the carts that come by are often full. Even for the wedding party that was pre-booked, we were left stranded several times for upwards of 20 minutes. Be prepared to walk everywhere or leave extra early if you have somewhere to be. Which leads me to the service. Nobody is unpleasant, but less than helpful is the name of the game. Only one of two people truly went above and beyond. If you have a question or concern, good luck finding anybody to care. For the price of this resort, and so many options nearby, I would look elsewhere for any future stays as this place is long overdue for a major overhaul. read more

Visited this resort for a couples trip in April for 7 days. The resort's esthetic is very nice. Decor & landscaping is beautiful. You're able to dine amongst all three affiliated resorts: Generations (family resort), El Dorado Royale (adult only) & Casitas (adult only). There's an app process to make dining reservations & room service orders. The resort offers some free excursions. They have concierge service too. 1. Food: Buffet breakfast. Made to order omelets, taco options, crepe bar, mimosas, healthy green juice, etc., nothing special. There's also have a sit to order restaurant for breakfast. I did enjoy this restaurant. Freshly made waffles & much more and better food options than the buffet. Lunch by the pool restaurant - pizza, tacos, quick bites, etc. There is also a buffet restaurant by the main pool area that offers lunch. The buffet has more options, hot dishes, fried fish, seafood, etc. Dinner at the Mediterranean restaurant was nice, great ambiance but the food wasn't that great. Dinner at Jade Restaurant was a complete disaster! All our entrees, rice & noodle dishes was served cold & disgusting! The upcharge for the Chef's Table dinner at Fuentes was worth it. Very nice show & the food was good too. Highly recommend. 2. Staff: - while most times the staff was hospitable, there were instances, mainly with the front desk & guest services staff that presented a HORRIBLE experience! Instead of trying to help resolve, the staff would lie & become very argumentative and accusatory. Would switch from speaking English to Spanish which is very disrespectful. 3. Housekeeping: only 3 of the 7 days, our room was serviced. When calling for clean towels, etc., it took hours for them to bring. Thank goodness for the supply room on the 1st floor as we had to get replacements ourselves. Our concierge was no help! He couldn't even get shuttle service to come! 4. Room Service ordering on the app was simple & easy. Sadly, ordered food items would be missed. When calling to report the missing items, the staff would argue back that the order was correct. We had to insist for them to review again as the app clearly showed what we ordered vs what was delivered. They eventually cooked & delivered the missing entrees. 5. Charge Issues: ‼ our room was charged incorrectly for a cabana rental for Saturday night. When bringing the issue to the front desk staff & guest services - we were told "we" were given an extra bottle of champagne. The lady at guest services kept insisting we were given an extra bottle of Moet champagne. We never had any champagne. She was extremely nasty stating she's not removing the charge. She stated they have a signed charge slip. My husband & I never signed for anything on Saturday. Once they compared both my husband & my signatures to our signed passports, the signature on the slip did not match neither my husband's nor mines. It was clear, someone fraudulently signed my husband's name. When the managers finally came to speak with us, it was determined that it was not a bottle of Moet champagne but a bottle of Tequila that was given to "someone" that was with our group. They didn't get that person's information, so the staff charged our room for the bottle because they had our room info already on file from the cabana rental the prior day (Friday). Even though the pool staff committed fraud, by signing my husband's name & charged our room, we contacted the other people in our party to figure our the bottle charge issue. We finally confirmed the correct person who received the bottle & they offered to pay the charge. The manager agreed to only charge for the bottle of Tequila & adjust the cabana charge from our bill. Sadly no apology from the nasty guest service lady who was highly accusatory & had the entire situation wrong! Only one person, Fernando, food services supervisor, offered an apology. He even went above to offer us dinner on the beach that night to make up for the bottle incident. Since this all happened on our last night there, I was over the entire resort & ready to go home. Btw, dinner on the beach was very nice. Food was good & the ambiance was great with the saxophone player providing live music. ​Thank you again Fernando!!! stars for Fernando! 6. Excursions the resort offers some free excursions at their sister resort Maroma. We did the ATVs! It's an upcharge but well worth it. The catamaran & snorkeling was super fun and they offered a BBQ buffet lunch as well. All included. Highly recommend taking advantage. They will supply transportation to & from. 7. Baggage ‼ - the night before checkout we received a call to set up time for our luggage pickup. We settled on luggage pickup time at 5:50AM (there suggested time). Sadly no one came the morning of. 6:05, we carried 4 suitcases down 2 flights of stairs & pushed our bags to the lobby from building 2 (12 minute walk) in order to catch our airport shuttle on time at 6:20AM. ​ read more

TL;DR: It's my first time in Mexico (and first time at an all inclusive resort), and my friend and I flew in for an early birthday trip to celebrate! We purchased the all inclusive package from Costco. We got picked up and dropped off to the resort. From the start, everything looked nice! Drinks were immediately offered to us in the lobby and we were assigned a concierge. The concierge is to help you during your stay. My friend has been to other all inclusive resort, and since we bought the tickets super last minute, she thought this would be a great one like the others she's been too. Long story short, it was okay. Nothing really special about the place. 1. Food: the food here is not good. Small portions, which is fine and understandable. But nothing has that "wow" factor. Different restaurants are open only during specific hours, and for dinner, you need to have your concierge make reservations for you. For breakfast and lunch, you can just show up to what is open during those hours (the front desk will give you a paper with restaurant hours/what's open for the day). My friend did get food poisoning from the Chef Market Buffet on the first day. She ate the raw fish at the ceviche station. If they are serving raw items, they should take better care of the area/food items. 2. Rooms: we got the junior suite that has not been upgraded yet. It's cute. Nothing too special, but that's fine. The shower does take a while to drain. While showering, it felt like the water was going to overflow. I also saw a cockroach run quickly to the back of one of the sinks (didn't know there was an open hole behind the sink area until it ran back there.) 3. Activities: it's pretty much dead at the resort. The only thing we found on one of the nights was a karaoke area and next to it an area with a dj + place to dance, but it was small. We thought there would be more spots around to dance during nighttime, but that was it. Very underwhelming. We had to travel outside of the resort to have some type of nightlife. 4. Weather: hot, but it was expected. They have AC blasted in just about every room you enter. 5. Getting around the resort: the resort is long. It's connected to some of their other resorts. To get around, they have shuttles (basically long golf carts) that will pick you up at designated "pick up" spots around. Make sure to tell the driver where you're going, as every driver is not going the same direction as you. Sometimes the wait can get long. 6. Excursions: they have some fun excursions that you can do. I believe all excursions must be reserved (reserve through your concierge.) We really wanted to swim on a beach, so we did the snorkeling + beach day at Maroma Beach. They have a bus that will pick you up in the front, and take you to the beach. It is a long day trip. So 8:30am - 5pm. You will get food there (lunch to early dinner). Make sure to eat before as they don't feed you breakfast. You will be in the hot sun, swimming, and drinking. So eat before or you will get sick, since you don't get lunch until after the activities. They don't have snacks on the boat as well. So be prepared to have unlimited alcoholic drinks + the heat. 7. Membership: On the day that we checked in, we mentioned that we wanted to get massages. The concierge mentioned that if we did a 90 minute membership presentation, that they will give us a $200 USD coupon that we can apply to our massage (massages are $220 a person extra.) We agreed. On the day of, I was only able to make it as my friend got food poisoning. The first presenter was nice and really tried to get to know me, which is understandable as he is trying to sell me some packages. We did the whole first half of the presentation and then comes the second half of going through prices. He wasn't too pushy, and was understandable about why I couldn't purchase a package at the moment, but then said that someone is going to give me a survey about how he did. As he left, another guy walks in which is now the second presenter who I was not aware of. This guy was a bit more stern and tried offering me other deals to make the purchase. I nicely declined again, and his demeanor changed and was like "okay yeah we're done here." Wish they took my first "no" as my answer. 8. Would I come back: probably not. Staff and everyone was nice. This wasn't my first time in a resort in Mexico. We came here for a wedding and this was by far the worst experience I've had in an all inclusive. The room is old and needs remodeling. The bed frame had what look like mold. The swim up suite is not an actual swim up. Now costumer service was one of the worst I've experienced. They give you the wrong information (old dated map) and when you ask for help they push you away and make it seem like it's not their problem. (They created the problem). Good luck having a hangover in this place and wanting to sleep in. I heard all the employee gossip at 8:00am they were sooo loud! We also had room service knocking on our door early in the morning when we didn't order any room service. Food was mediocre. If you're planning to book here I'd recommend to find somewhere else! Stayed at this resort for my honeymoon, booked through Costco. Would definitely never go back. 1) My wedding ring was stolen. We left our room one morning to go on an excursion and left all jewelry tucked away in my backpack (should have used the safe I know). When we returned later in the evening my wedding band was not with the rest of my rings where I left them. My husband and I, along with security, scoured the room but it was gone. Filed a report and there was absolutely no follow up. 2) Feels like they're constantly trying to sell you their membership. We were talked to many times trying to persuade us to come back to any of their resorts for a discounted fee. The service and experience should speak for itself if I plan to return to a place 3) Plan on doing lots of walking. The resort is huge and the restaurants and bars are spread out throughout the property. The staff do have golf carts that drive around and give rides... if you can get one. Many times they would drive right past us, and even when we had scheduled a pick up no one came. 4) It rained one day and during the night leaked through our ceiling. Woke up to a puddle of water all over the bathroom floor. 5) Food was mediocre. Out of all the restaurants only 2 were actually good The bartenders were the only saving grace about this place, and I will say the resort grounds are beautiful. We declined the "membership tour" and the hospitality drastically declined. We ordered room service 4/4 nights. Not one time did it come. We tried to complain by asking for manager via "0" or "front desk" with no reply. If you want a quality resort, this seems to be it, but only for its members. The restaurants require reservations. If you come with a large party (over 6) they cannot guarantee you sit together. For what you pay, go to a better resort. read more

TLDR; Had a great time, plenty of lounge chairs and cabana beds on a FCFS basis, food was decent, would return! Highlights: adults only - no crying screaming splashing kids running around to ruin your vacation! health bar - their smoothie/fruit juice selection is great and was available during their opening hours (unlike what a previous reviewer noted). we had multiple drinks from here every day! la isla - they have horchata (but you have to ask the day prior so they can make it for you for the next day), lots of mexican cuisines and a delicious chip and dip platter in the morning cocotal/bfast buffet - for those who require american foods and buffet service, this is the main option for breakfast. Juice cart available (must get the green juice or papaya juice). Papaya was always ripe and sweet. ability to use the casitas and generations facilities and restaurants as well while staying at royale. We were always able to get a cabana bed on the casitas and generations side without having to get up really early. concierge - Alberto helped us with dinner resos (though not really necessary if you're willing to eat around 615-645p - we walked in on our first few nights and had no issues) Lomas Travel for excursions - reliable and timely pickup, friendly service. Fish of the day - at every restaurant that offered FOTD it was always mahi mahi; however it was also always executed perfectly - buttery and delicious, not dry at all. Housekeeping - we didn't require housekeeping daily and on the days we didn't, she left multiple bottles of water at our doorstep for us without asking. she also brought us extra blankets/sheets for my friend who sleeps cold when she noticed I had just a single sheet left on my bed since I gave mine to her. Needs improvement: room - they are a bit dated but not terrible. however the bathroom lights didn't work (would shut off randomly on motion sensor), 1 charging outlet didn't work (stopped after 10 minutes and got really hot), reading light was broken (but fixed immediately after advised), fridge was not cold whatsoever room service etiquette - this may be on the part of the guests and not staff, but room 1124 was on the end of the 3rd floor, 1 of 3 rooms on that floor. Every time someone ordered room service they would leave all of their plates and trays by our door (likely bc there was a housekeeping cart kept there during the day). This led to a family of racoons and coatis who would come in the middle of the night and make an awful racket eating the leftovers - think clinking glasses and plates at 3am, poop, and ants. it was right outside our window so I'd get woken up in fear lol. front desk friendliness - one girl was a bit curt and not super friendly/helpful but it may also be related to a language barrier, although as a front desk staff I would presume their english should be better than the rest of the staff since they are communicating directly with guests most often signage - hard to find some restaurants due to lack of signage on the main walking path on the beach side - particularly santa fe grill, haab, wine kitchen, jade. sunwing - please don't consider booking your stay here through Sunwing. They were terrible and don't have an onsite rep or any orientation here for assistance. we almost didn't make it to our hotel, and we had no faith that our return transfer would arrive so we just took a cab. shuttle - as another reviewer noted, it is rarely on time and usually full. However it's also very pleasant to walk through the 3 connected resorts and if you're not overweight or have health conditions it's so much easier to do that.... about 20 minutes to walk from one end of royale to the other end of generations. Shuttle is a great option for those random prolonged tropical rains! el dorado royale app - it's a huge work in progress BUT some functions work such as restaurant selection (menus need updating though), entertainment schedule, room service menu (but cannot order through the app). It's good for looking at what's available ahead of time before you even leave for the trip. They could also add a resort map on there which would be helpful for finding the way to restaurants. read more

Still our favorite. We have been a member for 10 years and while things have changed, we are still really impressed with the cleanliness, food, drink, etc of this resort. We have a wonderful stay last month for our anniversary and love the additions for restaurants they have made. Hidden secret, they have a candy and ice cream bar in Casitas which was one of our favorite afternoon past times. read more

As far as all inclusive's are concerned, this is a wonderful resort! There are many places to dine and the grounds are very well-kept! This is an adult only resort and is more relaxing and quiet then some of the younger group cheaper resorts. Lots of special treatment and you can enjoy the services from neighboring Cassitas resort as well! read more

attended a family wedding at this resort and was honestly shocked at how poorly things were handled. After spending a lot of money to travel and stay here, I expected basic hospitality -- but that's not what we got. Staff were often rude and dismissive, room service was nonexistent, and many of us had issues with AC not working or no hot water in our rooms. Even guests who made restaurant reservations in advance were turned away, which made meals frustrating and unpredictable. There were food service issues at multiple wedding events, which makes the host look bad, even if it isn't in their control. That kind of mistake is completely unacceptable. This resort may look beautiful, but the service was nowhere near the standard you'd expect from a wedding venue -- especially one charging this much. My husband and I booked a week at this resort through our Costco Travel program on a whim, literally three weeks before we went. I have several thoughts regarding the resort. 1. Staff-we were assigned a concierge upon arrival. We saw him just that one time, and never again during the full 7 nights we were there. He was friendly and obliging, but new, and when he booked our reservations for dinner, he put in the wrong room number, which I suspected when we spent 10 minutes trying to get into our first restaurant for dinner that evening. When they finally looked for our NAME (which is an unusual name) instead of our room number, they found us. We had to go back up the next morning, and a different concierge had to cancel our reservations so we could make them again correctly. We also asked the front desk if it was possible to remove the sodas from our mini fridge & replace them with club soda/sparkling water. They said they would, but I gave up after two follow ups. I started getting bottles of club soda from various bars around the resort, bringing them back to the room. We also received different answers from different staff about events& things happening around the resort: for example, the tequila tasting supposedly occurs at 2 PM daily, but some staff said 1 PM and some said 4. It actually started at 2:40, or that's when she showed up anyway. The mezcal tasting was at 4. 2. Price-I feel the price overall was a great value for the experience. However, don't buy anything from the resort stores OR from the tourist areas they take you to shop at in the excursions without looking up the regular price first. There's a normal upcharge for buying things at a resort/tourist trap, and then there's highway robbery. Examples: my husband failed to pack his sunscreen, we tried sharing mine and ran out in 3 days. We stopped to pick some up at the resort store. My sunscreen costs $12 USD, my husband's costs $16 normally (he likes spray on). We paid $70 for them at the resort. I expected an upcharge, but that's an increase of 250%. The second item was a bottle of Mezcal that I liked at the tasting. After we bought it, I realized they'd charged us $120. We kept our phones in the room, the entire point of the resort was to unplug, but I looked up the bottle after I saw the charge. I could have taken a trip to a liquor store and bought it for $40 USD. A 300% mark up? Shame on them. We did not purchase anything else from the resort. After Chichen Itza, we were taken to a street to shop. Our guides showed us a tequila & mezcal shop where we could use the restroom, but when we walked in staff pulled us into a tasting, then tried to pressure us into spending $250 on a bottle of alcohol. We had our phones this time, so we looked it up: $40. That's a 625% increase, it's so disgustingly dishonest, and they were so pushy we left mid-conversation without going to the restroom at all. 3. Food- Now the food was pretty good overall. But if you're a vegetarian or a vegan, it's a struggle unless you want to eat salads or at the vegan place all the time. Stand out restaurants for me were: The Health Bar: it's vegan, but don't let that stop you. It was delicious (avoid the cheesecake). The juices they made were perfect. The Fuentes experience was great and the wine pairing was worth it. The Italian place in the Royale was excellent, and it was miles away better than the Italian place in the Casitas area. Kampai was easily the best experience. La Isla was great for lunch & breakfast. We also enjoyed the food at Kick Bar. Ricon Mexicano was the only place that let me down in every category: everything was extremely under seasoned. 4. Fun extras- Every Tuesday they have a big fiesta, so most of the restaurants were closed. There was a chocolate making class at Fuentes. There was a mezcal tasting. Karaoke was also a fun. Extra things: Nice massages on the beach. We explored Chitzen Itza, swam in a cenote, swam with dolphins (beware the photo sales) and did an ATV trek through the Jungle. 5. Selling you a membership: friends decided to hear them out about the sales pitch for a membership. They were picked up in a luxury car, driven to another Lomas property with NO cell phone or internet service. Then they were encouraged to take out a loan to buy a membership package. They refused, & the fancy car abandoned them. They had to take a taxi back to the resort at their own expense. They said their concierge was rude to them after that, too. We cancelled our meeting to avoid the same treatment. 6. Overall, we went to relax, to eat and drink, and to have a good time, and we succeeded. I took away a star because of the sales tactics and staff issues, but overall still fun. read more

This is a place to avoid. Unless you do not mind having to spend a lot of money. Yes, you can book a room overlooking the beach for a few days. That price is not too bad. It is a bit out of date. And you do not have to mind climbing to the second or third floor with your bags. There is no elevator. So pack light. The pool is nice. The bar is right there. You can always have a place to sit. Unless you want one of the special lounge beds with the awning over it. That is only an extra $400 each day. Interestingly you can walk onto the beach for the same piece and it will cost you nothing. Food....Breakfast is the best. Then it goes down hill. Lunch is better in the Health Bar area. Dinner...You might do better in town. They served Japanese food with cream cheese inside. Having lived in Tokyo for over 4 years I never saw that on the menu. The Chinese food had a dish with seafood in it. I have had that before when I lived in China. This time we think it was chicken. It was not fish. Of course, they charge you extra for everything. $250 fora one hour spa massage. $50 to see another resort next to it you can walk. $160 extra for a dinner on the beach. $200 a couple if you had more than 8 people at the table. And you could not have that. Only 8 people which makes it tough if you have a family with you. We were there for a wedding and that was very nice. That is what mattered most. For the next day we had to try 3 restaurants to take us since they would only allow 8 people at a table and we had 11. They wanted us at separate tables on other sides of the area because of the crowd. It was empty. Total of 40 people in a big room. Finally, men had to were a full tee-shirt to have lunch by the pool. No tank-top. And no hats. That was not allowed. Overall, it is your choice. Having been here I will find another place to go. read more

YOUR SAFETY AND WELL-BEING ARE NOT A PRIORITY! I strongly advise anyone considering El Dorado Royale to think twice--your safety and well-being are not a priority at this resort. Giving them a one-star review is honestly too generous; if it were possible, I'd give them negative stars. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a wedding, and our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. During one of the event dinners, we specifically asked the staff if there were nuts in the food due to my boyfriend's severe allergy. We were assured there were none, but after eating, he began having an allergic reaction. He is anaphylactic, and we had to wait over 30 minutes for the on-site doctor. When the doctor finally arrived, they told us we needed to go to the hospital. We were taken by ambulance, and a staff member promised us a ride back to the hotel once we were discharged, giving us a phone number to call. However, when we called the number, the night manager, Francisco, informed us that the hotel would not be picking us up, leaving us stranded in Cancun at 3AM. To make matters worse, no one from the hotel staff bothered to follow up or check on my boyfriend's condition in the days that followed. When we finally spoke to the front desk, they claimed the resort was not responsible and refused to reimburse us for the taxi we had to pay for ourselves. They told us that because we "chose" to go to the hospital (as if we had a choice when he could literally die), they would not cover any expenses. This resort ruined our vacation, showed a complete lack of accountability, and clearly does not care about its guests. We will be contacting corporate to address this negligence and lack of compassion. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

The wife and I went on a much-needed Mexican getaway to El Dorado Royale for a 5-day/4-night (Mon-Fri) all-inclusive stay. Full disclosure, we're Exotic Travelers members staying in a Presidential suite so our experience may not reflect that for non-members. We arrived at the resort early afternoon. We were taken to the separate members check-in area where, in addition to getting our keys, we were offered glasses of sparkling wine while we selected our pillows and aromatherapy fragrance for our room. Our room was a first-floor suite with swim-up pool access. It came with a fully stocked refrigerator with beer, water, soda, and snacks, and bottles of liquor that we had selected pre-arrival. It also had a jacuzzi tub, which we didn't use, and wifi access. While it wasn't the most modern or luxe room, it was perfectly fine for us. The sprawling beachfront adults-only resort had multiple pools, restaurants, and bars, but was made even more sprawling with access to the restaurants and bars of its sister properties, El Dorado Casitas Royale and Generations Riviera Maya. The restaurants were true standouts of our trip with Fuentes Culinary Theater, which offered an outstanding evening of food, wine, and live cooking demonstrations; and Rincon, which served up traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern spin being our clear favorites. Also, the weekly Mexican festival is an event not to be missed with its delicious traditional Mexican food and live entertainment such as an incredible mariachi band and folk dancers. From the moment we set foot on the resort to the moment we left, service was amazing. The entire resort staff was friendly and eager to make our stay as carefree as possible. Of special note, our concierge, Rachel, and our butlers, Alvaro and Kat, were all exceedingly attentive and outstanding in taking care of all of our needs. As there is so much to rate in this review, be prepared for a long one. But I want to be detailed in my experience. Check in was a very smooth process. Upon check in we were able to get our covid tests scheduled for 2 days before we were leaving. As we were waiting in line, staff also brought drinks. We were then told it would be about a 10 min wait to get a ride to our room. During this time, we were able to order a drink at the bar. We stayed in a junior suite with swim up. It was beautiful. It was so nice to have our own little area with chairs and staff also came by to take drink orders. Our mini fridge was stocked daily with beer, soda, and water. Staff cleaned the rooms daily. Now on to the food. We were there for 6 nights and for a wedding so we got to try most of the restaurants. Cocotal daily for breakfast was buffet style. Mimosa and bloody Mary bar were tasty as well as the fresh juice options. Kampai was my boyfriend's favorite. Honestly, I'm not one that usually likes sushi, but everything was so fresh. The Korean beef was only ok. I greatly enjoyed the sweet and sour pork too. They had a refreshing house cocktail. For lunch, I also recommend eating at palms that overlooks the water. It is so beautiful. Fuentes culinary theater is worth the upcharge. There was a $10 fee per person for the show and then $50 per person for the wine tasting (optional). The food was amazing and the show was great. Our concierge was very helpful with booking restaurants and our spa experience. We had massages directly on the beach. It was wonderful to hear the ocean in the background. The wedding was beautiful. It was right on the beach. As other reviewers have stated, this resort is huge. Bring comfortable shoes/sandals. They do have golf carts going all around the resort, but I preferred walking for the most part. There was designated stops with timers so you could see when the next one would be by. read more

Just spent the week of 5/19-5/25, and sorry to say we were very disappointed on our trip to the El Dorado Casitas. We were here about 9 years ago and stayed at the Royale side, but thought the Casitas looked pretty cool, so we came back. Alot has changed since then. Apparently, the owners got rid of Karisma, who were running the hotel, and are finding out how tough it is to run a hotel. Our room(s) had multiple issues, food wasn't nearly as good as last time, and the beach was closed due to seaweed. Save your $4,000.00 (yes, $4,000) and spend it somewhere else. read more

If you take anything from this review- please, take good comfy walking shoes. This place is huge and you WILL get blisters. The second thing is, we upgraded our room to the "beach front" option. It was NOT beach front. We literally could not see the beach from our room. So not only could we not see the beach, but we paid extra to not see the beach. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The travel service used to transport to and from the airport was fantastic. The food was a pleasant surprise, I was happy with nearly everything. A tip for you though: talk to the concierge as soon as possible to book dinner times upon arrival. A few restaurants are reservation only. A reservation must be made through the concierge. Room service is good, but slow. WiFi is great. Entertaining shows at night. Shampoo/conditioner/body wash is all provided. The mandatory covid test to return to the US was an unpleasant experience. They practically touch your brain with how far they shove the swab up your nose. Over all, I was happy with my stay. I would definitely stay here again! read more

7th night here at El Dorado resort and for the most part it's ok here and there. Definitely not the same everywhere. Great security service here but they work on 24 hour shifts. After day two it seemed all of us in the party were just a number and did not receive the same guest service from day one except from a few employees we got to meet. Check in with Maria at the front desk was great, they need more employees like her. Always smiling and happy regardless of what is happening all around. She remembered our faces too after several days. Room wise, they are big, nice and very clean but we did have an issue with no washcloths being left for two days in a row. I Called in the evening to request some after being gone all day and was told they were on their way, at 1 am still no washcloths and had to use other means. Next day, the same thing so I asked housekeeping and she brought us some after the room had already been cleaned but she hadn't left any. She also never refilled the coffee used and they took the bubble bath and salts from the jacuzzi since we hadn't used it. Drinks and snacks were not refilled every day in our room. Restaurants had some employees with terrible attitudes and definitely no customer service at all. We all spent thousands of dollars here and we weren't treated well at all after day 2 and we were over 350 paying guests in our party. When room service food was ordered at the Generations side we never received it but did not have any issues on the El Dorado side. Restaurant wise El Dorado side had better service all around. The best service was at Cocotal restaurant. Gerardo was great there as well as several others. La Isla was also very good and I would recommend either one of them. Food was great and plentiful. Much variety, juices were fresh and tasted wonderful. Liquor was always available if you asked. Most restaurants seemed to rush you out though. When reservations were made some were 1/2 hour before closing at 10 pm and we were rushed. This happened at Santa Fe restaurant. They did have good food there. Bad service at Chef's Market, same thing with being rushed and attitudes. The cart issues were a nightmare. Very unorganized. We attended several events and no carts were readily available to get us to the destination and no carts were available to bring us back after any event either. We were over 350 paying guests attending but this did not matter to them. Be prepared for plenty of walking is all I can say. From day one to day three there was a big difference. I don't know if they just could not handle the large parties that were here or they got your money and you are just a number. I would love to visit again just to experience if it was just because we were such a large party. Hopefully so. read more

This resort is owned by grupo Lomas and they have completely destroyed the resorts. They rely and prey on people to join then charge crazy rates to return. Membership used to be awesome, but since Prestige split with them they now want 4k plus for a owner to return and get the benefits they purchased when they joined. We have owned for 7 years have stayed at all the el dorado properties and have never paid.more than 2800.00 for a week with all our sapphire benefits. Now the website is trash, if you can even log in so you have to call and now they are quoting a week with benefits for 4800.00 for an owner. We can and will go to Europe, a secrets, saddles etc cheaper than that. Big and expensive lesson learned and I hope this review will save you from making the same mistake as the thousands of other owners that are now linking there wounds. read more

We have stayed here before 12 years ago and really enjoyed it, we were looking forward to coming back to this resort. I booked what I thought was a swim up honeymoon suite. We pulled up to the building and I noticed we were on the 3rd floor? Looking at this suite vs the Junior suite there really is no difference, so had to get over that, I was disappointed. We then learned that our toilet didn't flush. Had to take the lid off to flush it! Only 1 restaurant was open for pizza at 7 pm for us to eat at. All other restaurants you have to make reservations. Next morning we went to the concierge to make a spa apt and dinner reservations. The gal then tried to talk us into a timeshare in exchange for massage. She was annoyed as well as annoyed that we made our own travel plans outside the resort. We called for room service and they were 30 min late over the promised 60 min so we had to leave for an all day trip hungry. The maid service was constantly not stocking our room even after we called to get stuff. The room was run down and at check out they didn't show up to get our bags! There was a dirty laundry cart outside our room every day. Food was good if you can get in but no buffet. The main pool had towels on the chairs every morning so you couldn't ever get a seat! The beach had huge cement blocks to look at, not swimmable. I would not recommend this resort, spend the extra somewhere where they take better care of the rooms and you. We came here for a wedding and must say it was a much needed break. Pros: Gourmet Inclusive - AS a total foodie I was not disappointed by the options that were available in regards to food. There was also 24/7 room servicve available. My favorite dish that is not on the menu at JoJo's is the whole fried fish! It was delicious and I ordered it every single day, lol. JoJo's was the place to be no matter what time of day or night. The food was great, the drinks were flowing and it was the hang out spot in the evening until the morning. We met some really great people and the service was always on point. The resort is huge and there is a shuttle service that runs pretty frequently. Unfortunatley, it's hit or miss if they're willing to pick you up or not. The wedding and venue were very beautiful and the service we received at the reception was great! You have the option to visit the other properties Generations and Hotel Dorado Casitas during your stay A lot of pool options and activities during the day. Cons: Be VERY careful in the room. Something about the temperatire in the room and the humidity outside but the floors are extremely slippery. I fell a couple of times and and had a few close calls. This is probably the biggest con to staying here. Don't hurt yourself. Service was hit or miss. I did feel like better service was catered to others, and not so much to people who look like me. In fact, I heard the same feedback from quite a few people that look like me. I did not let this keep me from enjoying myself. Overall, I had a nice and relaxing and fun trip. This was the best week of my life. I came here for my honeymoon with my husband. We were spoiled the whole trip. We stayed in the lowest level room and it was still extremely nice! The hotel is large but not too large to walk to get to where you need to go. Every employee was so friendly! The food was so tasty! Every restaurant we went to was divine. My favorite was the d'Italia and Fuentes. Fuentes is the culinary theater. I will say the food is inconsistent a little bit between different days of eating at the same restaurant, but still good nonetheless. We also ate at the restaurant next to d'Italia (I forgot the name!!) for breakfast every day. It was divine! By about day 4, the food wasn't really agreeing with me, but I think I'm just not used to dining out for every meal. The room service was so great. We ordered the burger and the steak sandwich a lot. The steak sandwich had true chipotle mayonnaise on it and it was amazing! The liquor wasn't great (just ok) and didn't agree with my stomach. My husband drank mostly beer. If you want Dos Equis in your room, you have to ask for it! He mostly drank Sol and Dos Equis. As for the other experiences: the quiet pool was nice. The pool with all the activities was neat but not my cup of tea. Every day there was multiple free activities. My favorite was the cooking one. We watched one of the employees make shrimp ceviche in the casitas area. It was delicious and fun! We booked 2 excursions through Lomas on site that was easy to book. The beach was nice but closed every day but 1 due to the weather. The resort also offered activities every evening: Michael Jackson show, karaoke, a circus act, and some magic. It was a lot of fun, even if some of the stuff was a little cheesy. There are golf carts going around everywhere which helps if you want to go to the other side of the resort. There is a store inside the lobby that has miscellaneous items and the usual hats/shirts/sunglasses/magnets. We somehow forgot sunscreen and our toothbrushes so we purchased those there. There is a minimum to charge to the room, but it wasn't bad. Prices weren't bad either. Everything is in pesos obviously but they have the exchange rate posted at the register. I wish I remembered everyone's names. There was 1 guy that was involved in all the activities that was a lot of fun. read more

I don't even know where to start. This was literally the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel, motel, resort, or any lodging, whatsoever. I came to this resort in late August / Early September with my partner for her friend's wedding. We booked through a travel agent. The first few days were ok. The resort is massive and there is a lot to explore. The food was pretty good, but not mind blowing or super memorable. The wedding and all of the fanfare around it was well done. After the ceremony & reception, this whole trip went to sh*t. Our room was not pool facing and there was a DISGUSTING smell at most times. They must have sewer lines close to those rooms. We were in a Jr. suite. Building 7 or 8. There was also an incident where we waited with another couple to be served at the food area for almost an hour. As we watched waiters march right past our table one after the other and saw 3-4 tables that arrived after us get served before we had even been spoken to. I explained to the host that this was unacceptable, and she agreed. The other 2 folks at the table with us were very frustrated and let it be known. The staff at that lunch area took my room number down and 2-3 managers emerged from the back to try and smooth things over. I thought this was strange at the time, but not enough to look into things further. I only add this part of the story because the next part is shocking and confusing + potentially related. On the morning of our check out, I noticed that my traveling duffle bag was damp. I had been throwing the day's clothes in there and treating it as a laundry bag. But there were several clothing items that had not been worn in over a day that were strangely wet. A simple smell test confirmed that there was clearly urine on my duffle bag and some of my clothes. This was a shocking breach of trust in my opinion as we always left our door locked. I immediately brought my soiled belongings to the front desk to ask how this could have happened and what should happen next. I was not treated fairly or with any understanding. I spoke with a Manager: America Sauzameda Quezada. She immediately implied that I may have been drunk and urinated on my own clothing. To clarify, neither I nor my partner drank more than a glass of wine or two at dinner outside of the day of thew wedding (which was at this point 3-4 days past). She explained that the resort would open an investigation. She stated that a sample would be taken to test if this liquid was in fact urine (multiple staff members confirmed that the liquid was urine. It is not difficult to recognize the smell of piss). Also that the security team would interview any cleaning staff that had been in our room and check security tapes as well. She also CC'ed me on an email Anna Pegler who works for the ownership group and deals with Customer Experience. America told us that this investigation would take 48 hours and expect to hear from them. That was September 7. It is currently September 30 and I have not heard from neither Anna Pegler nor America Sauzameda Quezada. They processed our incidentals. And there was strangely over $100 in charges that neither I nor my partner made. We disputed those charges successfully, and paid for our other incidentals. I demanded that the resort clean at the very least my soiled bag and the clothing items that were the most damp. America offered to clean all of my belongings, but I declined. At this point, I did not trust this company or their staff. And I did not want to further trust my belongings in their care. I requested to physically watch their cleaning process and they obliged. We checked out shortly after that. The fact that I have heard from neither America (Hotel Manager) or Anna (Client Rep) is alarming. I genuinely feel that our room was targeted thanks to the events of the lunch that I mentioned. We booked this spot because of the good reviews compared other resorts, big mistake. This is an all-inclusive hotel however it did not feel like it. First off if you expect to dress up in heels, don't. Everything at this resort is a walk. They have restaurants that are basically on the other side of the hotel where you can have a shuttle take you but have to wait for one to pass by. Shuttles are supposed to come every 15 minutes however you'll see them pass by with the carts packed. We ended up walking to pretty much every restaurant, even in the rain. Second, once you get there you need to reserve your spots to eat at certain restaurants which is unbelievable. It is not just one or two "nice restaurants" that have you do this, its basically 75% of them if you plan to have dinner. Given that we arrived at 6pm and was not properly given advice of booking these reservations immediately, we were scrambling to find something decent to eat the following day after our long trip to Chichen Itza. Unbelievable. Another thing to point out, our initial encounter at the front desk. We were not greeted nicely or in a welcoming way at all. Instead were we were greeted in a way as though WE were an inconvenience and just set a bad tone for the remainder of the trip. Also to note booked this through Costco and were supposed to be given $500 in resort credit. NEVER was this information provided to us, and as my partner went to ask about upgrading our room he was simply told "no that does not apply to upgrading the room, only spas and dinners." He then asked okay, we would still like to upgrade, regardless if we have to pay. The gentleman who was assisting up leaned over and asked a woman something I could not understand as I do not speak Spanish and after she answered he simply said "No rooms are available." My partner speaks Spanish fluently said the woman had stated "No, there are no rooms" without even checking. It was also really unsettling to know when we got to our room there was no "Welcome" or "Happy Anniversary" as I clearly stated on our notes that it was and we saw on other guests doors welcome signs and happy anniversary signs. Finally, this is NOT a beachfront view hotel. You cannot go in the beach water because seaweed is everywhere. So much that there are workers constantly out there picking it up so you'll definitely smell it when walking by. Also, there are big brick blocks in the beach that completely take away the beautiful view of the beach. These might be to suppress the waves but it not something pretty to look at. The food is average. Nothing over the top or special. However, the absolute best meal we had was at the Thai restaurant where we had a wonderful waiter and the chef who came out to greet us and tailored the meal to us. The meal they prepared was absolutely exceptional. They even made our table have rose petals all over and made us feel so special. They completely deserve 5 stars, not this resort. I have a lot more complaints about this place but think this will do. Best of luck if you decide to go. read more
