We had the pleasure of staying at El Dorado Royale as a mini honeymoon after our wedding in Mexico. Honestly this resort is fantastic! The rooms, restaurants, amenities, shops and bars are amazing and the food itself is way better than most all inclusive resorts. The swim up suites are heavenly too. Seriously, what could be better than stepping out on your patio into your own pool and spending the day in the sun? The pools do connect to a lazy river that you can take to end up in a main pool with a swim up bar or you can stay at your own pool for the day and have cocktails delivered directly to you (included with your suite!). One final perk is that all room service is included as well, I know it sounds too good to be true but it is! We ordered breakfast on one occasion and late night burgers on another. Pleasantly surprised with that service and perk! Regarding any cons, two things I'll warn about: the beach access is limited and the good spots are marked off for VIP members. Also, the resort will try to heavily sell you their membership package and will offer comps like a candlelight dinner on the beach to get you in the door. Just know that if you're not interested in a future membership then it's best not to even entertain them otherwise you'll spend hours listening to unnecessary sales pitches.

Make sure you order the fried ice cream for dessert it is amazing!

EDR is a beautiful resort. We are members so the service is impeccable. The only downside is you cannot swim in the ocean, it's very rocky. The restaurants are delicious but do not miss the burgers at Kick they are some of the best on the whole property! Another favorite is Kempai the Thai restaurant. Enjoy!

I was here, like many others who have reviewed, for a wedding. Overall I can see how this is a convenient location for a wedding, as there are multiple locations across the resort and it's adjacent sister properties to accommodate the events. However as a resort I found this place very underwhelming. The rooms are dark: I had a junior suite with a beach view and all I saw was w huge palm tree obstructing any ocean view, mind you the water palms were needing some pruning! The rooms also are not entirely clean. I had little ants all over my room. My fellow travelers reported that there wasn't any hand soap in their room. I will also echo the absolute lack of room service! I called to order French fries and cake--it never arrived. Similar stories from fellow guests were echoed in attempting to order simply a pot of coffee. Food overall is ok--many of the breakfast places will not have have enough food in the buffet line or even have all of the food out--over 40 minutes past opening. The restaurants requiring a reservation are almost always booked up. The beach is not really for swimming as the beach front has these large cement structures in the water. In summary I will not be back on my own accord.

Stay away from the Time share Voltures called "Exotic Travelers" Their contribution to the property is to guarantee Lomas/Grupo Lomas (the owners) a level of occupancy. Their guarantee of reduced rates can also be had thru an Internet search at "no cost" unlike the Exotic Time Share BS. Thru "their" time share club you will not be able to reserve a beach front room with any of their (2) ammenities. Anyway the service from the Hotel staff is really good, the assortment of restaurants and their food is good only 1 buffet (for beakfast). The grounds are beautiful and mostly kept up. There's really no beach to speak of. The liquor served at the bars and Restaurants are low end unless "Top Shelf" is requested. Trying to get transportation around the property with the extended length Golf Carts is forever a challenge.

Visited this resort for a couples trip in April for 7 days. The resort's esthetic is very nice. Decor & landscaping is beautiful. You're able to dine amongst all three affiliated resorts: Generations (family resort), El Dorado Royale (adult only) & Casitas (adult only). There's an app process to make dining reservations & room service orders. The resort offers some free excursions. They have concierge service too. 1. Food: Buffet breakfast. Made to order omelets, taco options, crepe bar, mimosas, healthy green juice, etc., nothing special. There's also have a sit to order restaurant for breakfast. I did enjoy this restaurant. Freshly made waffles & much more and better food options than the buffet. Lunch by the pool restaurant - pizza, tacos, quick bites, etc. There is also a buffet restaurant by the main pool area that offers lunch. The buffet has more options, hot dishes, fried fish, seafood, etc. Dinner at the Mediterranean restaurant was nice, great ambiance but the food wasn't that great. Dinner at Jade Restaurant was a complete disaster! All our entrees, rice & noodle dishes was served cold & disgusting! The upcharge for the Chef's Table dinner at Fuentes was worth it. Very nice show & the food was good too. Highly recommend. 2. Staff: - while most times the staff was hospitable, there were instances, mainly with the front desk & guest services staff that presented a HORRIBLE experience! Instead of trying to help resolve, the staff would lie & become very argumentative and accusatory. Would switch from speaking English to Spanish which is very disrespectful. 3. Housekeeping: only 3 of the 7 days, our room was serviced. When calling for clean towels, etc., it took hours for them to bring. Thank goodness for the supply room on the 1st floor as we had to get replacements ourselves. Our concierge was no help! He couldn't even get shuttle service to come! 4. Room Service ordering on the app was simple & easy. Sadly, ordered food items would be missed. When calling to report the missing items, the staff would argue back that the order was correct. We had to insist for them to review again as the app clearly showed what we ordered vs what was delivered. They eventually cooked & delivered the missing entrees. 5. Charge Issues: ‼ our room was charged incorrectly for a cabana rental for Saturday night. When bringing the issue to the front desk staff & guest services - we were told "we" were given an extra bottle of champagne. The lady at guest services kept insisting we were given an extra bottle of Moet champagne. We never had any champagne. She was extremely nasty stating she's not removing the charge. She stated they have a signed charge slip. My husband & I never signed for anything on Saturday. Once they compared both my husband & my signatures to our signed passports, the signature on the slip did not match neither my husband's nor mines. It was clear, someone fraudulently signed my husband's name. When the managers finally came to speak with us, it was determined that it was not a bottle of Moet champagne but a bottle of Tequila that was given to "someone" that was with our group. They didn't get that person's information, so the staff charged our room for the bottle because they had our room info already on file from the cabana rental the prior day (Friday). Even though the pool staff committed fraud, by signing my husband's name & charged our room, we contacted the other people in our party to figure our the bottle charge issue. We finally confirmed the correct person who received the bottle & they offered to pay the charge. The manager agreed to only charge for the bottle of Tequila & adjust the cabana charge from our bill. Sadly no apology from the nasty guest service lady who was highly accusatory & had the entire situation wrong! Only one person, Fernando, food services supervisor, offered an apology. He even went above to offer us dinner on the beach that night to make up for the bottle incident. Since this all happened on our last night there, I was over the entire resort & ready to go home. Btw, dinner on the beach was very nice. Food was good & the ambiance was great with the saxophone player providing live music. Thank you again Fernando!!! stars for Fernando! 6. Excursions the resort offers some free excursions at their sister resort Maroma. We did the ATVs! It's an upcharge but well worth it. The catamaran & snorkeling was super fun and they offered a BBQ buffet lunch as well. All included. Highly recommend taking advantage. They will supply transportation to & from. 7. Baggage ‼ - the night before checkout we received a call to set up time for our luggage pickup. We settled on luggage pickup time at 5:50AM (there suggested time). Sadly no one came the morning of. 6:05, we carried 4 suitcases down 2 flights of stairs & pushed our bags to the lobby from building 2 (12 minute walk) in order to catch our airport shuttle on time at 6:20AM.

The staff is so friendly and accommodating. The facilities are beautiful. The grounds are stunning, the ocean is breath taking. Even with the rain we enjoyed every minute.

We had a wonderful time at this resort! I loved every single minute we were here!…read more Beautiful grounds and a wonderful place on earth to be. As long as you are behind the gates that is.... Outside of the gates is a whole different story. It's pretty intense out there with the police being fully militarized. They have machine guns mounted to trucks they stand on and ride around just for the presence, there are tons of people wanting to take advantage of dumb Americans at every turn. Watch yourself if you travel alone in Cozumel. It's designed solely to attract tourists. That draws out some colorful personalities in my experience. Traveled with ease from the oh so lovely Cancun International Airport. Interesting spot to say the least. We were warned not to communicate or accept anything from anyone except our driver. We arrive to the hotel really excited, somewhat cautious, and ready to have some fun. We were greeted at the front door and we handled a little paperwork, and then we were taken to our room by a wonderfully helpful chap. He showed us around the room, gave us a quick run down of the grounds, described the amenities, food situation, and some other pleasantries. He talked about the dining situation and gave us a map tour so we're would know how to navigate the grounds. They have a cool locker system in each room. The service folks just leave your anything in the locker and you don't have to interact with them at all. They just let you know it is there. Nice feature. The grounds themselves are absolutely gorgeous! It is so well kept, the attention to every detail goes so far beyond a normal resort. They comb the beach every morning. I kid you not. They seriously rake the entire shoreline before dawn. They also run a tractor to clear the seaweed from the beach. Insane dedication to making your stay great. The restaurant situation is so fucking rad. They have just about any food you might want covered between the what seemed like a dozen restaurants at the resort. I ate and ate and ate and ate.... I ate between meals, I ate between those meal and snack times. We had so much food!! Every dinner was 5-8 courses. I'm positive I could stay right here forever and never leave. Food heaven!! Spa is great too! It's a lovely relaxing oasis of self care. That's another review, but it's great. Don't take my word for it. Go for yourself! Cold plunges are good for the soul! They have shows every night in the theater and there was some sort of event being held every night in the common area. Some were private, others public. They construct stages, eating areas, weddings, happy hours with bands, and even corporate conferences. It's pretty wild the amount to building and tearing things down the do here. We rented a cabana bed one day and at the end of the day the built and transformed the beach into an elaborate engagement spot with candles everywhere, flowers, and a table for two. Very nice touch! All in all a fantastic experience. My only gripe was that the room smelled of mildew and/or too music moisture. C said something about it when we got there but it wasn't that noticeable to me. When I got home and unpacked my suitcase is when it hit me. There were clothes that I did not wear, just sat in the drawers and repacked, they all had to be washed as they smelled terrible after being packed and transported back home. I would come back monthly if possible. Nice place. '26 - 74

Another amazing anniversary trip at El Dorado Casitas!…read more We started our stay in an Emerald Suite at Casitas and then joined friends in a Presidential Suite at Royale. As always, the people made the trip. A huge thank you to our favorite butlers, Gaby (who honestly feels like family at this point), Alfredo, and Hugo. We also had some new favorites this trip: Jorge, Ximena, Eddie, Monty, and Luna. Every one of them went above and beyond and helped make our anniversary extra special. Ramon and Alberto at the pool completely spoiled us. Drinks magically appeared before we realized we needed one, food was always available if we wanted it, and we never had to hunt down a towel. They made relaxing way too easy! We also had fantastic service in the restaurants from Alex, Norma, and Wilbert. Wilbert especially has a special place in my heart. If you've met him, you know exactly what I mean. One of the highlights of our trip was watching sea turtles come up on the beach to lay their eggs. Such an incredible experience. If you're staying there during turtle season, bring a red-light flashlight or use a red-light app on your phone. It's absolutely worth it. After 37 years of marriage, hubby and I have learned that it's the people who make the memories, and this resort has some of the very best. Thank you all for another trip we'll never forget.

Our room was spacious and even had a small pool plunge on our deck. We ordered room service a lot which was convenient in between meals. The resort is huge. Lots of walking. The staff were so so nice and accommodating. Super clean and so many wild animals and plants call it home, I can see why! The Coatis are the cutest and the iguana / lizards are huge and just hang out by the pool sunbathing. They had a water park on site, a huge PGA golf course, and also cirque's de soleil - "Joya" - the only one on the east coast of Mexico. The show was outstanding and highly recommended doing the dinner before the show! There are shuttles from place to place, but there is still a lot of walking. My favorite was the flamingos, and crocodile tour! The easiest way to navigate around is the Vidanta app. It was fun checking everyday to see the daily activities and where to eat (I also planned ahead before the trip). They had a lot of evening festivities and loved getting dressed up and having all the local food. All the pools have a bar which was so convenient. The main pool was near the beach and easy access to the water! They have a grocery mart with the best crepes, along with a gift shop and some snacks and food and alcohol. We went during Halloween week and they had everything set up for Halloween and also Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It was gorgeous with the decorations. This resort is for time-share holders only! They had a lot of security to get in and out which made us feel safe that no one was wondering around. Your room key is a wristband which was good because we never lost our room key! Really have to give it up for the staff. Everyone was awesome & great!! Made a great memorable trip!!

TL:DR - Had a great time at the Maya resort. Service was superb, food was decent but a bit lacking…read morein the sit-down experiences in regards to food quality. Pools were refreshing and beach/pool bar service was great. Wish the entertainment were more Mexico/culture themed vs circus or Addams family, etc. Price gouging onsite was excessive. The rest of the story -- This was our second time ever going to Mexico and the first time to this area/region. On our first trip, we stayed on a much smaller resort, so this was quite a switch, because the Iberostar Paraiso Maya + adjoining resorts is HUGE. Although there were trams, we opted to walk most places and we averaged 18k-20k steps/day. The service was absolutely tremendous. Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable... just the little things... nearly every worker would say hi/hola as we passed in the hallways... from the landscapers and housekeepers to the concierge staff. The meals were on point. I will say that, overall, we preferred the buffets options vs the sit-down options. We did 4 sit-down meals during our stay -- L'Etoile (French - first come, first served), La Marina (Seafood - first come, first served), Olivetti (Italian - reservations required), La Geisha (hibachi Japanese - reservations required). Of those, I would say La Geisha was our favorite. The other options were good, but overall fell a bit short. The steaks were often undercooked related to request -- Ie: we would order as medium-well, but steak would be cooked as Rare to Medium rare at best. The rooms (Maya Junior Suite) were great and stayed very cool during the day with 2 ceiling fans and A/C. The pools were great and bar service was on point. The beach was overtaken by sargassum during our stay, but staff worked hard to try to clean it up, but it was just coming in such great quantities to stay ahead of. Nonetheless, the beach was fun to sit at and relax. Only 2 criticisms to address -- 1) the entertainment was sometimes lacking for cultural appeal. There was entertainment every night in the main theater, but of the 5 nights we were there, only one was more of a cultural experience. The others were a Circus-theme, Addams Groove Experience. Those ones were, at best, ok. But we did thoroughly enjoy the Mexico-themed performance. 2) The price-gouging in the onsite shops is extreme. A few examples : $45+ usd for a bottle of regular-sized, Banana Boat sunscreen spray. $50+ usd for a cheapo, waterproof phone pouch, $30+ usd for pepto-bismol. I understand that resorts will scale up their pricing for the convenience, but that level of price gouging for simple items seemed excessive.

The pools are great and the lazy river was a ton of fun for the kids. There are so many options of things to do both inside and outside of the resort. One of my favorite things is that activities just kept coming to us! There's water Zumba and a water fitness class. There's a fun competitive sport in the pool every single day. They set up a really cool obstacle course in the pool for kids. We had a dance party, a foam party, and most importantly for the adults - a swim up bar with bar tenders that made excellent margaritas, daquiris, pina coladas and caipirihnas. The staff here were super friendly and that goes for every part of the hotel. The service at the restaurants. the towel person, the entertainment. Everyone was friendly and attentive to our kids and to the adults in our party. The only negative I would say is the food. But honestly, Ive never had good food at an all inclusive resort so thats just something that is par for the course. There's a grill where you can request freshly grilled meats and fish, and if you stick to that, you'll be good. Otherwise, it was all subpar food. I didnt take a star away because I dont expect food to be good at a resort, and this is based on my experience. how relaxing it felt, how much fun the kids had. the cleanliness of the beach and pool and resort in general. the fun and entertainment, and of course, the well made and delicious drinks. A 5 star experience all around. We will definitely be back!

My concern is not with the hotel itself, but with how IHG and Iberostar handled my request. I contacted IHG and Iberostar in good faith to resolve a pricing issue and was hoping for reasonable customer service. Instead, I was met with inflexible policies and no willingness to work toward a fair solution. I expected IHG to value customer loyalty and make a genuine effort to resolve the situation. I am simply requesting one of two reasonable resolutions: * Honor the rate that was available so I can keep my reservation, or * Allow me to cancel my reservation without penalty so I can rebook at the lower available rate. Neither option is unreasonable, yet I was told neither could be accommodated. This experience has left me frustrated and disappointed with IHG's commitment to customer satisfaction. I hope IHG reviews this matter and empowers its customer service team to resolve situations like this fairly. I would appreciate a response from someone with the authority to honor the lower rate or waive the cancellation penalty so I can rebook. Doing so would restore my confidence in IHG and demonstrate that the company stands behind its commitment to customer service.

My fiancé and I met up with his family at Iberostar Waves Paraiso on Christmas day of 2023. The service is impeccable, it is very clean no matter where you look. The fragrance they use to scent the lobbies and hallways really put you in a relaxing mode. The pools are large, clean and clear of debris. The beach is also clean and so relaxing to watch either the sunset or the sunrise. The property has many restaurants with different cuisines, a shopping area, a pristine gym (you have to pay extra to rent equipment though like tennis and pickleball rackets; and pay extra for certain classes), and there are other resort buildings that you can access as well. The staff are very friendly, polite and will ensure you get the best service possible. They have a huge buffet and room service is available 24 hours a day. There are activities planned all day and during the night as well. Thank you for the hospitality Iberostar!

All of this was included with my day pass while on the island during a Carnival Cruise. Unfortunately, it was difficult to find bottles of water- which I expected to happily overpay for. You see, I'm a five star girl and the cranberry juice and ice are just different than I'm used to-not bad- just different. What I mean: The juices aren't Ocean Spray, the coke isn't Coca Cola Classic. It happens. The vodka was Sky or Smirnoff and I couldn't choke it down. I suggest Fire Ball shots and call it a day. There were many fish in the water, a swim up pool bar, and fresh towels if you show your ID. There are bottles of water at the lobby store. Most of the hotel is outdoors like many Iberostar hotels around the world so the lobby store A/C is a nice reprieve.

El Dorado Maroma lives up to all of the wonderful pictures you can find online. Just like the other Karisma resorts it is stunning! Definitely happy we booked and had a chance to stay at another great luxury gourmet inclusive. I'm giving this resort 5 stars as follows: *Beach - the beach is beautiful. Water is clear and there wasn't a lot of seaweed nor was it rocky like other resorts in riviera maya. There's even a little private island not too far off shore that you can kayak or swim up to. Plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas available. *Pool - Clean and well maintained. We spent a lot of time at the smaller pool with swim up Bar 24. The bartender Antonio was so friendly and made a cocktail that he called "Antonio's Especial" that my husband enjoyed. If you want to take a break from swimming there's a vendor with various ceramic items you can paint. At night you can purchase cigars and enjoy the live entertainment. The main pool has fun activities during the day and a few cabanas and lounge chairs. *Staff - Lovely staff. Very friendly and courteous. *Food - It's a Gourmet Inclusive and the food met our expectations. Consistent with the other Karisma resorts. My favorite dinner was at Mio Italian Restaurant. So, just make sure you book El Dorado Maroma!

The overwater rooms in the Palafitos are truly phenomenal--spacious, luxurious, and everything you could dream of for a perfect getaway. The atmosphere in the Palafitos area is something special. It's quieter and more private than the rest of the resort, with a calm, exclusive feel that makes it easy to truly relax and disconnect. The overwater setting, gentle lagoon views, and overall sense of seclusion create a peaceful, almost intimate environment that felt like our own little escape. Our butlers, Alberto and William, were exceptional. They anticipated our every need and went above and beyond in ways we didn't even realize we needed. Eliseo was an outstanding waiter at the Palafitos restaurant and made every meal feel special. We mostly stayed within this quieter Palafitos area, but whenever we explored the rest of the property we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful grounds and found every staff member we encountered to be kind and welcoming. A special mention goes to the bartenders at the Swing Bar who worked the 3 p.m.-close shift--they were fantastic and really elevated the experience. If you feel like leaving the resort for a bit, Playa del Carmen is nearby and offers a great selection of shopping. This resort and its people made our trip unforgettable.
