I eat breakfast here several times a month. The prices are great and I've always been pleased with the food. The waitresses are friendly and service is good. I've heard good reviews and always seems busy so we thought we would try instead of IHOP. The staff are very polite and friendly. I like that they leave a full carafe of coffee at your table so not to have to wait for refill. The food is ok, nothing to right home about( that's what yelp is for) but everything was cooked to order and came to table hot. I say that because it seems that so many places bring breakfast to your table after it's cooled down. All in all a nice alternative to the chain restaurants. read more

My favorite breakfast place in Cleveland County and has been for many years. I love the $5.99 breakfast special that includes pancake, eggs, meat, grits and coffee. And the blueberry pancakes are an iconic family dish known for their ample serving for years. I've heard people complain about this place and its decor. Are they serious? Come on, this is one-of-a-kind American diner as it's meant to be. If you want frills, go somewhere expensive and not memorable where they don't give you much food. My family and I, a party of five, just ate here this morning. We arrived at around 1030 and despite being extremely busy with several people on the wait list ahead of us, we were seated in about 10 minutes. We ordered chocolate chip pancakes with bacon for our younger two children, our teenager French toast my husband got a strawberry waffle with sausage, and I got the breakfast special with eggs bacon home fries, and toast. The kids got hot chocolate and chocolate milk and my husband and I got coffee. The servers name is Anna and she was a professional server for sure. All of our names were met, she was efficient, personable, and know what she was doing. As far as I could tell, she has several other tables, possibly up to 10. Maybe she was helping someone else but it any rate the atmosphere could have been chaos and Mayhem with how busy it was and it was not chaos or Mayhem. The hot bar look fantastic and we will definitely come back and try it out. If I can get it more than five stars, I would. read more

I hate to be Debbie Downer here, crashing this party with my 1 star review, but I can't just bite my tongue and say nothing. And if you've read my past reviews, you know that "brutally honest" isn't a medium I merely dabble in, but is rather something I unabashedly roll around in and spray all over the walls with reckless abandon in very much the same way some artists passionately work with oils or clay. So, with that being said... Yelp is my food bible. I trust it implicitly and allow it to guide my whereabouts probably more than I should. But I allow this to happen because Yelp usually does not steer me wrong. *Usually*. My husband and I arrived at this quaint-looking spot on a Saturday morning and it was packed. Well, packed is good, right? When we finally sat down, I ordered an omelette and my husband decided to go for what the Pancake House surely must do best: Pancakes, right? Blueberry pancakes to be exact, with a side of bacon. I feel like our menus were barely whisked away before our food arrived. How is this a bad thing, you ask? Listen, I'm all about food arriving in a timely manner, but there's a fine line between, "Wow, that was quick!" and "How could they possibly have made an omelette, pancakes and bacon in a packed restaurant when the waitress took our order, literally, 5 minutes ago?" Sorry, but while food arriving that quickly may be a huge plus for some, for me it is a glaring red flag. Cooking food does take time, and when a steaming hot plate is brought out to me within just a few, brief minutes after ordering, I have a hard time believing a microwave was not involved. Now, let me talk about the food. My omelette was basically a sad blanket of brown, rubbery eggs covering the filling. My husband's bacon had clearly died many deaths before arriving at our table. It was crispy. As in, burnt to a crisp. But wait, this is the Pancake House, right? Surely this place's namesake provided at least one redeeming quality? *sigh* Sadly, no. While rather generous in size, the pancakes were a big, doughy mess. And no, there were no fresh blueberries cooked into them, as my husband so wrongly assumed. No, the 'blueberry' pancakes were unceremoniously dumped with what seemed like an entire can of gloopy, gelatinous blueberry pie filling type stuff and did little else other than soak their way into what was already a mushy stack of pancakes. We did our best to eat the almost inedible, but had to throw in the towel shortly afterward. At least the food was cheap. So, what did I take away from my Pancake House experience? This place clearly relies on big portions, super brief wait times, and cheap prices, while letting food quality take a back seat. Personally, I would gladly wait longer and pay more for a slightly smaller portion as long as my food was cooked by someone other than Chef Electromagnetic Radiation. read more

Just go. Had the Wild and Hot omelet, which was PERFECT with an order of Banana Nut Pancakes That were absolutely delicious. Old school feel, awesome prices, and probably the most important items, extremely quick service. I mean FAST. We got our food in approximately six to seven minutes after placing it. I really enjoyed the variety of food offerings they have and the pancakes are fantastic. I got the pigs in a blanket, which are giant sausage links wrapped in a pancake, eggs, and crispy bacon. Everything was cooked to perfection. My fiancé got a variety of offerings, but was happy to have his livermush cooked perfectly (extra crispy) the first time without sending it back to the kitchen multiple time, which often happens. I have absolutely nothing but wonderful things to say about this place. We were visiting my son at Gardner Webb and saw this on YELP, figured we would give it try. Walked right in, was seated and greeted by the waitress. We had one of the best meals. I have to say I had the best cup of coffee ever in NC. From the grits, sausage and biscuits and pancakes everything was amazing. I will be definitely going back when we are in Shelby again. Oh and I forgot, inexpensive and worth much more! read more

This is a classic breakfast place ( they also serve lunch). Nice crispy home fries and two biscuits were served with my eggs. Coffee is served with coffeemate--don't except half and half or even milk. Prices are good. Service is fast and first rate. read more

Hardcore breakfast place - not even sure they do dinner. If you want "hot and a lot", this is the place. Waitresses are friendly and fast. Gets pretty darn busy on the weekends but they have pretty good turnover. The banana pancakes are yummy! read more

Great food, great service that harkens back to a diner 50 years ago. I was driving through and used Yelp to find somewhere for breakfast. It's not a place I've even noticed before, but I'm so glad I stopped. Portions were generous, pancakes were fluffy and light with good flavor, and the hash browns were great. Even the eggs, which I usually don't like in a restaurant, were good. Prices were fantastic. If you get a chance, drive by the chain restaurants and give this place a chance. Our waitress - Heather was polite, professional and quick. My friend recommended this place on our way to South Mountain and I now know why he likes to stop here among all the choices along the way.
