Came for some good authentic Mexican at this restaurant in Aurora. It certainly is one good for families and groups. Pancho's is one of the many family owned restaurants around here, and is better than most of these. Obviously it's more authentic than fast food. The funny thing is the food here comes out pretty fast it seems. An unassuming place located in a strip mall. It's located next to a few other Mexican owned businesses, of which there are many in these parts. That means any customer should expect authentic quality. Here that's certainly what they have. This isn't Americanized crap thankfully. It's about $12 for a cocktail. The Pancho Salado is made with lime juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice, along with Squirt and tequila. It's about $12 for the Taco Dinner. This is two fried corn tortillas with avocado, cheese which I left off, lettuce, refried beans, and tomatoes. Kind of like a Mexican Pizza, but better. The free chips come with hot authentic salsas, which also go good on tacos and other things. For sure it's one of the many places around here to get authentic cuisine. It's located on New York Street at Union in a strip mall. They're closed Sundays, Mondays, and Saturdays which is weird. read more

Stopped in for a quick dinner. Based o. Reviews thought it would be a good choice. Cheese enchiladas were good. Sauce was a little on the smoky side but still overall good along with rice and beans. We've been coming to Pancho's since the original owner opened this location up after the original was torn down. We hadn't been in for awhile, but that's going to change! Our service was great and the food was delicious!!! I had the chicken enchiladas verde and my husband had the carne asada. Both were absolutely delicious, as were the salsas! read more

We love going to Pancho's for dining in. We did have one bumpy experience, our waitress did not speak English, and got our order wrong, even though somebody translated it to her from English to Spanish... but we managed to overcome that and still go again. The food is really delicious and they have really good salsa especially the green one so spicy and hot but you can't get enough of it. The ambience is really nice all three times that we were there on a Friday. They had a mariachi band playing and it was the ultimate experience. One thing I didn't really like was the Horchata, I've honestly had better, and this one was just mediocre. The service is really good and usually pretty fast with getting the food. read more

The worst Mexican food that I've ever had. My first shot at this place and it was awful! I don't eat meat on Lenten Fridays, so I got the chile rellenos. Cooked in rancid oil that should have been replaced a week ago. Seemed like a Sysco frozen item. My 'salsa' was a pico de gallo with no cilantro or lime juice. Located on the NorthEast corner of New York street and Union street; Pancho's Tacos is a family owned restaurant that provides a very authentic mexican atmosphere. Beyond great food, they feature live music, karaoke and half price margaritas throughout the week. Pancho's tacos has proudly served the Aurora, il. Community since 1989. The restaurant features booth and table seating in an authentic mexican style interior with a small bar area near the front entrance. Upon being seated, you are immediately served chips and salsa as an automatic appetizer. Both very authentic, although the salsa may be a little hot and spicy for the less experienced salsa connoisseurs. The service was gracious and attentive. The horchatas were also quite good as I had two, myself. I ordered the quesadillas, which comes with beans and rice. They were hot and soft, with all fresh ingredients. I almost feel as if this interview is incomplete because I came here at lunchtime and as such did not sample the Margarita (which I hear is fantastic) so I will have to return on a later date to sample that and update this review. Conclusion: Pancho's Tacos is an Authentic Mexican experience, in a cozy, casual, atmosphere, with the added bonus of entertainment and great deals throughout the week. Thumbs up; 4 stars! read more

My previous reviews of this restaurants were awesome. Today the service was horrible the posole was horrible. We had to keep calling the waitress over she didn't check on us without being prompted. They served my posole without cabbage but with lettuce inStead. Eeeewwww. I was waiting to get more oregano but we couldn't get the waitress. And I must say that there are only six of us in the restaurant. So they're not busy. I had to get up and go ask the lady behind the bar for oregano. I come to find out that they do have cabbage and they brought it to me as I had probably six spoons left of my meal. So the service was bad and the food was bad but when we did ask for the check she said there was no charge for the posole so this is the reason for three stars. read more

What a disappointing experience. It had been a long time between visits... and will be even longer, if at all. I certainly would never come at 8pm on a Wednesday. I walked in and got no greeting. Stood there for a bit and another family walked in, grabbed menus and went and sat down. I questioned if it was seat yourself? "Oh! you want a booth or table?" Of course the other patrons were waited on first and received their meal first. My steak was cooked well done, it dawned on me she never asked how I want my steak. The enchilada atop was also cooked well done and the beans were luke warm and the rice was a nasty glob. I was hangry at this point and certainly didn't want to wait for the server to grace me with her presence. The horchata tasted terrible. Great lunch specials around $5. Friendly staff, bartender and owner. Love their homemade chips, three salsas and pico de gallo--spicy! I usually get two tacos a la carte: al pastor (pork) and deshebrada (shredded beef). I'm usually stuffed, because I've ate my weight in chips and salsa before the tacos arrive. Placing drink and food orders is never an issue, but it can take awhile to get the check which has happened several times (why they lost the 5th star). Save room for something sweet, they offer a few desserts or visit La Chicanita bakery on the other end of the strip mall. Live mariachi on Friday nights 7:30-9:30pm. Went here for lunch with a bunch of teacher's after PSAE testing ended. Food was good, nothing to shout about, but service was slower than a funeral march. Pancho's is a bit of a breath of fresh air, even in the city of Aurora which is already saturated with Mexican cuisine. Pancho's is a casual, comfortable, sit down restaurant that serves exactly what you'd expect - tacos, enchiladas, burritos, chilaquiles - and what you can't get at your local tacquiera - margaritas! I came here with my parents on a Sunday around lunch time. It was somewhat busy, but the parking lot was even busier. The parking lot is shared with La Chicanita, a popular bakery, and a handful of other businesses. I think I got the last parking spot, but next time I will probably park on State Street since it's a residential street right around the corner and would be less of a headache than trying to exit the parking lot. I ordered a chimichanga with chicken. Pancho's makes the best chimichangas in Aurora. I've had them at other places, but they just weren't quite that good. The chips are homemade and out of this world good. They were still warm from the fryer and a little bit greasy. The salsa is a chunkier pico-de-gallo than traditional salsa, but there were also two sauces on the table that were pretty good. Service was good too. I'll definitely be back! read more

Panchos currently holds the crown for the best Mexican restaurant I've personally been to in the Chicago area. Maybe even the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to, and as someone who has spent considerable time in Southern California, that's a pretty lofty claim, I admit. The crux of any Mexican joint is the quality of the chips and salsa, and, well, let's use a car analogy. You know how in any movie that features a drag race portion there's always a crucial point where both cars are neck and neck then one of the driver smugly smiles before punching the nitrous and leaving his opponent in the dust? Well, that's the culinary equivalent of what happens when your waiter (or waitress) drops Panchos' chips and salsa off at your table. The chips simply must be made in house, if they're not, they're the best pre-packaged chips I've ever had. The same goes for the salsas, of which you get an assortment of three ranging in different heat levels from a fresh pico de gallo to what I can only assume is some sort of smoky chipotle concoction. If you feel like going all out, get the guacamole, you won't be disappointed. Paired with their already amazing chips, you're in for a treat. The food is fantastic, and everything I've tried from the menu has been to die for- Especially the gorditas. Throw everything you know about gorditas (likely taught by Taco Bell) out the window. These are like if you took an extra thick corn tortilla, split it open to make a pita-like pocket, then filled it with taco trimmings. I've been competing in a personal competition called the "three gordita challenge," and have never been able to finish three in a single sitting. One tip though- If you can, you really should go during what amounts to "prime" dining hours. As close to noon as possible for lunch, and as close to around 5:00-ish for dinner. It seems clear they make their food fresh for the day, and have been there when they've just been out of gordita shells. The food also seems better the busier the restaurant is. Not that it's bad or anything later in the day, but there's a noticeable difference when you roll in at 8:30, minutes before the close, versus showing up at 1:00 PM on a Saturday for lunch. read more

Ordered Ponchos for carry out for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon (3ish) for the first time. I ordered Chicken Fajitas and my sister ordered the Enchiladas (Red). First of all, they forgot to provide the tortillas for my Fajitas. Considering we ordered during non-peak eating hours this was a surprise to me. The fajitas were ok at best; about 1/2 chicken and 1/2 veggies flavored with salt and little of anything else. The Enchiladas were very average (had better). Both dishes were served with bean and rice, both sides were completely bland. The beans looked funny to me, they were light brown -- not the color I would expect refried beans to be. Also served on the side was lettuce and an unripe tomato slice. Will not be ordering from here again. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants I've experienced in Illinois. A few weeks ago I had a DirecTV guy out at my house to adjust my satellite dish. We had both lived in Southern California so we talked at length about the great Mexican food back there. He asked if I had ever been to Pancho's in Aurora, and said it was some of the best he'd ever had (given that he was born in East LA, and not lives in Aurora, I figured I could trust his judgment on the subject). Last weekend (yes, on Cinco de Mayo) we drove out to Pancho's to see if it was as good as I was told. Oh boy, we are definitely going back. To begin with, I love a place that brings multiple salsas (and not just spicy, spicier, and spiciest versions of the same basic salsa), and all three of the salsas that this place set on the table were very good. What sealed the deal were the spot-on Queso Fundido and the fresh and tasty Guacamole. I had the extremely flavorful Carne Asada, my mom had the steak fajita, and my wife had the enchiladas suizas. Everything was great, and the service was nice and friendly. My only complaint was that the menu wasn't very large. That's probably a good thing though, because it allows them to focus on a smaller number of things to do really well, rather than a large number of things to do mediocre. We arrived at noon on a Saturday and had the place to ourselves for at least half an hour, until the place was probably about 75% full. Even when we were the only ones besides two other table though, the small parking lot that this place shares with the other businesses in the strip mall was packed. Had an early evening commitment in Aurora, so as is my norm I looked for a tasty spot to eat and being Aurora I focused in on Mexican. muchas muchas opciones. Conveniently located on E York good Yelp ratings and a parking lot to boot brought me to Pancho's and it was positive. I had the chimichimunga with steak and it was a very good size, and one of the tastiest I've had in a long time. The refried beans and rice were both good as well. The salsa and chips as in the red and green were not thee most tastiest I've had but they were good. My server Adela was polite and efficient and the price was less than expected for a huge chimichimunga. Wide variety of dishes, (really, pretty much anything your mexican craving mind can ponder, they probably have it) prices are on par, and service is good. Don't come here in a rush.
