We are very happy we stopped and had lunch at Copps Island Oyster Shack. Easy to get to. It's not far off of the I-95. Thera a couple picnic tables with umbrellas outside to sit and eat at. We had the fried clam bellies and lobster rolls. The clams were big, tender and not overly battered. The cold lobster rolls had bread that was perfectly buttered, not overly buttered. This was a hard one to review .... Don't go in a rush, don't expect them to have complementary chips for the dish you order bc they run out, don't expect them to have consistent gas for cooking... that aside - nice very nice people esp given what they have to work with, the raw oysters and clams are fantastic - pro tip ask for horseradish on the side. My son like his lobster roll - had a lot of lobster meat. I grew up on oysters and clams. Lived with oystermen, have always had access to the freshest shellfish available. These guys are the real deal. Clams and oysters are right out of the water. I check the tags, know the taste, smell and texture. You can't do better. You don't often get a gorgeous water view with great food. read more

Been there 3 tomes this summer. Oysters and clams are terrific. Cold and fresh. The lobster rolls the first 2 times were great, but last night the lobtser actually seemed a little undercooked, too soft. My wife isnt a hige lobster fan fan and the little restaurant around the corner has the clams and oysters for half the price (and they get them from Copps). 2 lobster rolls and 6 clams on the half with tip... $100! The freshest sweetest most delicious oysters ever. I can not believe I've only discovered Copp's this year. And better yet on Saturdays, one can travel to their dockside establishment to purchase raw offerings in New Haven. Went with a group at the end of August. I ordered the hot lobster roll. Mouth watering. I then had 1/2 dozen clams casino and 1/2 dozen raw oysters. With a side of their fresh cut thinly sliced hand made onion rings. I shoved them in my face. It was an ugly sight but I make no apologies. I also had the garden salad. And took home two orders of fried clams. I gave one order to my brother and he made it barely a block away before he called me and exclaimed "Woooooow, these are amazing!" Big sis is never wrong. Seating is outdoors picnic style. I went there in the morning on Mother's Day took my mom. They gave us 2 great lobster rolls. My wife wanted to go back in the afternoon to have one so I took her. They gave her a terrible lobster roll only 3/4 full. Also we waited 45 minutes for one lobster roll. The people were very nice and the set up is nice there. read more

They really are putting out some great food with a great menu. I always get lobster rolls wherever I go and there's was pretty great but the rest of the food was so good too!! Fried clam roll with a cherry pepper gastrique (what?!) the oysters casino were my fav! The flavors were awesome and I'm not usually an oyster girl. Corn on the gob was good. I felt the prices were fair to comparable places. I just love the vibes, by the water with shaded picnic tables. You could see them shucking all the oysters. The staff was working sooo hard! Yeah we waited a little for our SECOND order but it was worth it! I even brought an extra chair since the picnic table only comfortable seats 4 and it seems like others had a similar idea. I had heard about Copps Island oysters from a friend. He goes to go to Norwalk to get the freshest oysters as possible. When I learned about the food truck/oyster shack. I had to go check it out. I was skeptical so I just ordered a half a dozen oysters. They were great Perfectly shucked. The cocktail sauce could use a little more horseradish. They were so good. I went back and got six more. Food is oyster shack food.... Delicious and what you want but nothing much different even though they try to add fancy names to the menu. Seafood fried perfectly, oysters fresh... Perfect weather requires lunch on or near the ocean. Today we had the house salad, the lobster roll which was great, and for the first time the oysters were a bit disappointing. They were a third of the normal size . However, the quality was as good as ever. Today 's lunch gets a 4.5 but I will round it up to a five. read more

I'd been craving a lobster roll all summer and as a huge fan of copps oysters I was super excited to hear that the shack was open! The benches are a nice addition to the area to sit and enjoy lunch outdoors. My husband was expecting to pick up Nardelli's, but they were randomly closed. He is allergic to crustaceans and having not expecting to pick something off this menu he was able to give the clam roll a try. Both his clam roll and my lobster roll were nicely loaded, fresh and cooked to perfection. The fries were also nicely cut and fried. Sure the prices were a bit much but this was an enjoyable $50 lunch by the shore. The copps stand is still available for oysters and clams to go. This is up there for one of my favorite CT lobster rolls. read more

I like to save the 5 stars for white tablecloth places with renowned chefs, but since Pete Wells gave a NYT's Critic's Pick to a food truck, the sky's the limit here. Their littleneck clams were fresh, juicy and served on a bed of ice. We both agreed that hub's fried clams (and he's an expert) were some of the best we'd ever had. I grew up where Peconic scallops washed up on the beach, and I had them raw right from the shell. Their Stonington scallops were very close to perfection, without that salt preservative flavor which means they were either very fresh or dry stored. They're served with your choice from a selection of interesting sauces. Everything is right off the boat and tastes like it. The view? Beautiful boats (one of which was a gorgeous vintage mahogany sailboat), fluffy clouds, green sea grass across the way, planters with fresh flowers and an exemplary water expanse. Who cares if you're sitting on picnic tables? Just show up early so you can get one. It's BYOB, so don't forget the corkscrew or bottle opener. read more

Love love love this little oyster shack at Brown's Marina in Stratford. Everything is delicious and made to order. We especially liked their fried oysters. While seafood is their speciality, they have hamburgers, hot dogs and a kids' menu for any picky eaters. It's wonderful sitting right by the water. What an awesome "food truck". It's tucked away by a boat marina. There are many food options but they definitely specialize in oysters and lobster rolls! The hot lobster roll had large chunks of lobster and the perfect amount of butter. These also come with chips. We also tried the Casino Rocks which were so good! They were buttery and had a little kick to them. I also love how the onion rings were thin. The whole belly clam roll was fried to perfection. Now be prepared you might have to wait a bit and there are only 6 tables! But you always have the option to take home. The staff was very kind and worked really hard to fill all the orders as fast as they can. The area to eat and order was clean and overlooked the water as you can see in the picture. One thing I will say is I wish there was an organized direction for the order line. It ended up threading through the tables and therefore I felt like people were on top of me while I was trying to eat. Next time I'll try to get a table on the edge by the water. Thanks to the Stratford Ladies FB page, I decided to gather the kids for an afternoon lunch at Copps Island Oyster Shack. Nestled away in the one of the most scenic parts of Startford, CT. As you can see by the picture, we treated ourselves to a few menu items. The lobster roll (although a tad bit pricey) was one of the best I've ever had and I'm a lobster roll snob! The fried oysters were also a hit at the table. Perfectly battered and well seasoned! The shrimp cocktail wasn't anything to rave about but when is it ever? Ha! The sauces make the dish and that did not disappoint. My kids had the chicken tenders w/ fries and OMG was it good! Could just do that and you'll be the happiest camper! My kids couldn't finish it all so dad and I helped Service was great! Plenty of seating and a beautiful view of the harbor. Can't beat that! Will definitely come back! read more

Very inconsistent place. Went at the beginning of summer and had a big, flavorful (and expensive) hot lobster roll. Just went back tonight and was very excited to do so. The lobster roll was maybe half the size, almost cold and no flavor. Do they weigh the lobster for their rolls? Doesn't appear so as the rolls that I observed were wildly different sizes, including mine and my husband's. We paid just about $100 for two rolls and one order of fries and one order of onion rings. We stopped going to Matt Storch's Match Burger/Lobster in Westport because of the shrinking lobster roll sizes (but not prices!) and will not return here either. I understand that the market price varies, but have some consistency with the sizes of the items you are offering, especially when the prices are so dear. read more

What a perfect spot in a Marina on the mouth of the Housatonic river. Informal outdoor seating . Order from the window . The CT lobster rolls (hot) were simple as they should be. A healthy serving of hot buttered lobster in a simple grilled split top hot dog roll. No sauces other than butter or other out of place seasonings. Just as it should be. No silly brioche rolls, baguettes or other abominations. They are excellent. The oysters on the half shell were expertly shucked, sweet and briny. The clams which were top neck almost cherry stone size were equally fresh . The simple greens salad came with a creamy vinaigrette dressing and easily fed two. The staff very friendly and service was quick. We ate on the patio enjoying the view and some sun. They obviously sell a lot of orders to go so the kitchen is busy. If you see the scallops on on a line menu, they are an occasional special. Use a GPS to find this place. read more

I just visited this restaurant for the first time. Don't judge me but I am allergic to shellfish. My friends really wanted to go and I went with benadryl and an epi pen! I ordered the most delicious grilled cheese and the staff could not go more out of there way for my safety!!
