Paneantico is simply wonderful. It surprises me to see so many complaints about the service--I've been going there for quite a while and on occasion, yes, I've waited a while, but never for an excessive amount of time, and I've had no problems with rudeness. Some of that might arise from the fact that Bay Ridge has yet to be gentrified; if the Paneantico staff members, many of whom are no doubt Brooklyn-born and -bred, get a kind of hipster vibe from a customer, they don't like it. In my experience, the employees have always been sweet, polite, and solicitous. Its prices are high, but the food is quality fare and you can squeeze two meals out of a typical sandwich. I've been coming into this establishment for the past year or so. I've always had great service here but tonight, unfortunately had to have been the worst experience by far. The waitress was incompetent to take my order. After seeing me and my comrades waiting in disbelief she hands us the menus. I ask her "hi how are you", not only did I get no response she just walked away. I brushed it off as if hey she's having a bad day. But, no she just wanted to ignore us. She ended up taking our order, so the wait began. After waiting 10minutes; and seeing our food was prepared and ready to be served. She walked past us a minimum of 5 times and saw that our order was ready but chose to ignore the fact. I got really irate and left the premises. I will take my business elsewhere obviously my money isn't green at this horrible establishment. read more

Absolutely the worst the service I have ever seen. I am not picky and very easy to please. The waitress failed to bring us forks. She completely forgot what we ordered (it was three items and she wrote them down) Failed to come over to the table ONCE the whole time we were there. I had to ask a different waitress for our check which took twenty minutes to bring. Then she didn't even bring me the change, I had to walk over to her to tell her to bring me MY change as she was sitting down putting sugar packets into the sugar pack holder. If your primary criteria for grading a restaurant is how crowded it is, then I guess Paneantico might warrant 4 or 5 stars, but since when did a crowd mean something is good? Crowds also tend to gravitate around car accidents and house fires...I recently gave this place another chance. The service is unbearably slow and rude. Last time I was there they tried to keep me hostage because their register was down and they could not generate a bill. I said I would pay exact cash. I had to explain how to add the price of sandwiches together and the person kept saying 'im not retarded. i have to add tax.' I had to explain how to use a calculator and add the tax. I guess she is 'retarded.' Very nasty crew here. Having eaten there about 40 times, I can now admit the food is good but only if you have approximately 2 hours per meal. We probably spend 15 minutes eating and the rest of the time waiting. Extremely frustrating as there are seemingly 15 people working there in a place the size of a matchbox. Poor management. Dirty tables. Ambivalent service. My blood pressure can't take the aggravation any more. read more

It wasn't even that busy and top that at the end when we finished the meal the waitress asked what were we waiting for, implying that we had to leave meanwhile there was six available tables. I've heard great things about this bakery and decided to try their breakfast. I know how hectic and crazy the restaurant business can be and I always try to give places especially servers the benefit of the doubt. However my experience here was the worst I've ever had at any restaurant. Our group of 3 arrived at 11:15am and ordered 3 simple croissant sandwiches, coffees and a bowl of fruit. The fruit took about 15 minutes and he coffee 20, understandable as they were very busy. 40 minutes later our server brings the contents of my sandwich on a plate and proceeds to tell us she was just informed there were no more croissants. I settled on a roll and I then reminded her that the other sandwiches were on croissants as well. She then asks my sister and cousin what kind of bread they would like. While all this was happening new customers were being served they're breakfast platters. Another 10 minutes go by and I receive my sandwich but my sister and cousin have not. We ask how much longer and our server runs to the kitchen and is speaking with the chef as if she is just putting in the other orders. Lack of management is the most obvious issue that lacks in this bakery and I attempted to remain positive of how busy our server must have been. After the extreme lack of attention and long wait while others were being served we decided to leave with only one of our sandwiches. We were then told "the eggs were bad" and given a few apologies and only charged for our fruit and coffees. I have to give this place only 2 starts simply because you can't be an Italian eatery and have a less the mediocre cannoli as well as the rest of the desserts. The cakes seem old with the frosting cracking cookies are ok. On a better note their sandwiches are tasty especially if are on the brick oven bread wait staff is friendly but not too knowledgeable at times about their menu. This place is not what it appears to be. I placed a order for a cake a week in advance just so no issues would occur. I specifically came here due to good things that i heard. I wrote specifications on how the cake should be and even provided a picture on how the cake should look. However, on the day of pick up things went completely wrong. First, I had to wait in line with other customers when my order was placed one week in advance. When i finally got to give them my ticket i had to wait close to 20 minutes for them to bring up my cake. Upon them showing me the cake, i was informed that they messed up and if i wanted i could have the cake as is or have them try and fix it. The saying that i asked for was not completely written so only half was there. Colors were ALL WRONG. The design was completely WRONG.Since i stated i would NOT be paying for a cake that i did not ask for they opted to try and fix it. Meanwhile i waited, the young lady informed me that she noticed the error on the cake one hour before i got there for pick up and she brought this up to the manager. However, he did NOTHING. I waited close to 40 minutes for them to present to me a cake i could have bought at carvel. The writing was done in print, and not only was it sloppy it was written at an angel as if someone with no experience did it. In addition, the design was done very ammateurish, as if an 8 year old child had drawn it and there was smudging and noticable areas where they attempted to re-do their mistakes. Not to say the least the cake was a complete mess and i literally had to rant and rave for almost 10 mins to the manager before he decided to handle the situation in the most unprofessional way i have ever seen. With this said i WILL NEVER GO HERE FOR A CAKE FOR A SPECIAL OCCASSION AGAIN. The service was horrible and their lack of customer care was disgusting. On top of this, the cake was not even what i asked for. I could have gotten a better looking and better tasting cake at Costco. read more

Always heard raves about this place so we ordered 6 sandwiches today for pickup. When we got them home, I realized why they're 12.50-they're huge. Of course, though, my sandwich, an Eggplant Parm, had nothing on it, and I mean NOTHING! It weighed much less than the other 5 sandwiches. This place is owned by Royal Crown so the bread and pastries are amazing. Sandwiches are oversized and enough for two and everything is fresh and top quality. I recently had the fresh mozzarella with roasted red peppers and sauteed arugula. They also have all kinds of meat sandwiches, over 100 different choices in total, and there is outdoor seating. It is out of the way but a good place to stop if you're biking around Brooklyn. read more

In short, our waitress was completely disinterested, my omelette arrived lukewarm (cheese was not melted inside) and the "home fries" were cold, mushy French fries with some peppers thrown on top. Panantico looks like a pastry shop cafe you'd find in Italy with tiled floor and outdoor tables. The menu has a full list of Italian sandwiches made from the food in the glass cases. Salads are good. There are no free refills for coffee, which is unheard of in New York. Prices are high, Service is slow, especially on crammed weekends. Service to outside tables is awful. read more

horrible service! I reserved and put a deposit down for a birthday cake to be picked up a couple of days later. I arrive at the bakery to an unfriendly girl at the counter. I tell her I'm here to pick up a cake and pay the balance. she takes my receipt and proceeds to "look" for the cake. she comes back and says some other girl is busy right now who needs to help me so I have to wait until that other girl is done. so wait at least 20 minutes before she asks to help me. she disappears for another 10 minutes. I have to go up to her and ask her if she's still getting my cake. she then says some other guy is now getting my cake. bottom line is they end up not having my cake at all! this is the 2nd time I've gone into this bakery and received such terrible service. I understand mistakes happen but they don't even try to make right with the customers. if I had to guess, they are a bunch of racist who treat only certain customers with respect. read more

When Paneantico first opened it was run by a mother daughter duo. The service was good. Fast forward to today, and it is a circus. The key to eating here is knowing what you want before you sit down. If you allow the menus to be placed down without ordering, you may never see your waitress again. Another tip is to have your credit card or cash ready to pay when she brings you the bill. The service at the place is terrible, terrible, just awful. You'd think they were catering a banquet for thousands. Management doesn't seem to care because they are so busy. As a customer who has always loved their food, it's starting to really wear thin. They've started adding fees to things that used to be part of the service, too. Beware when ordering out! Check your bill. I want to love this place like I once did. Please get it together and hire waitstaff that doesn't disappear. Where the hell do they go? The space isn't that big. Their bread is great..from their whole wheat rolls to their garlic knots..I even enjoy their homemade pizza..I usually order egg whites with capers..broccoli rabe and fresh mozz on a rosemary foccacia..yummy..their meatballs are huge and made with only beef (the only kind I will eat)..my only dislike is that the sauce the meatballs were in was soooooo sweet I couldn't enjoy it..didn't stop my hubby from devouring it..their salads and sandwiches are pricey and the artichoke and olive salad was turning..mom is the cook and she walks around greeting customers..large selection of homemade food, salads and of course amazing pastries! read more

Saturday May 11, 2013. Time 9:05 I walk into Paneantico with my wife with the intention of having a cappuccino and a desert and some relaxing time. The store is almost empty with the exception of one table with four people. As we walked in we heard someone yelling " No more sandwiches"... I thought "thank God we are not hungry". We tried to find a table to sit and observed that all table tops had remains of other people's left food, napkins, empty glasses etc. We found a little table right upfront that was clean and sat. The waitress came and gave a menu for sandwiches. I asked her if they were still serving sandwiches. She came back to tell us that they will close and we could have coffee and deserts. We ordered. It was 9:17 At 9:20 they started turning off the lights starting from the front where we were siting. Immediately, they started cleaning the tables left and right to us. Another person lifted the rubber carpet by the counter almost under our feet. I called our waitress I asked her if they were trying to tell us that we have to leave. She no, "they are just cleaning". We asked for the check. We paid and left carrying our coffee in containers. On our way out we ask "what time are you closing" They said at 10 o'clock.!!!! ( I must say the waitress was very kind... ! The place used to be clean with polite people working their. I don't know what has changed. Maybe the success of the previous owner. But with this attitude... I will never go there again. Been coming here for years just for that steak and mozzarella sandwich, with their perfect balsamic glaze. The other day i took half my sandwich to go and was charged $1 for each togo container of balsamic glaze (which has about a tablespoon of dressing per each container). I recently moved out of state, but in the 2 years I lived in Bay Ridge, this was a go-to place for me. I have a major sweet tooth and Paneantico is more than capable of meeting that need! The Cannolis, Napoleans, strawberry shortcake, lemon drops, sugar cookies..... I could just go on... and on..... and on. They also have a great selection of sandwiches - the tuna fontina cheese melt with red peppers, and the mozzarella with lemon and arugula were favorites of mine and always delicious. read more

I had an incident a few months ago where the young girl at the counter was busy chatting with a customer (they were friends bc they were conversing about family stuff) she watched me walk in the door and get on line, never stopped talking to ask if I needed assistance...another girl turned around to help me and even she looked annoyed with her coworker because she wasnt helping customers on the line. I live in the neighborhood and there is always a line, one cashier. The bread is always good. I bought a Tart cake with all the fruit on top of the cream. the fruit was awful, and the cream was sour. WORST SERVICE EVER!!! McDonald's gives better service then this place. The food is good no question but definitely not worth dealing with the 15 teenie boppers they call a staff. The servers are all annoying teenaged girls that seem more interested in the boys making sandwiches then tending to their tables. Sometimes I feel like they are there just to flirt and giggle rather then serving. I've gotten up and left because no one has come over to give us menus. The managers must know how bad the service is and just not care which makes them even worse. They have no clue how to run a business and I'd rather make my own sandwich then ever give money to them. They always mess up my order an then argue with you about what you ordered. My boyfriends blood pressure raises to an alarming number everytime we enter. Definitely not worth the aggravation.
