A pleasant and popular, if noisy, non-meat kosher café in the heart of Brooklyn. Somehow these places always offer sushi and the customers appreciate it. There's an interesting roll with lox and cream cheese. Not the best quality lox perhaps, but the combo was familiar yet exotic. Best best best was their panini offerings. The grilled panini is crusted with sesame so the crunch factor, and flavor, is through the roof. I had guacamole/portobello/roasted red peppers. A tasty choice. Comes with choice of Israeli tomato/cucumber salad or Caesar. Not really a fan, but good sized portion. There are more options and desserts though my sandwich filled me up. Service is pleasant though it's crowded and child-filled. They also deliver. Open since 1999 per their sign, it's clear this café is here to stay. read more

This place has completely evolved over the years but has been in this neighborhood since 1999. I remember it being a moderately priced fast casual Kosher cafe. These days it is insanely pricy, about three times the price I recall it being in 2007. $10 small latte, $25 salad kind of vibes. While what I got tasted fine, it wasn't anything special and I probably wouldn't go back. It was also hard to get ahold of staff for the check. The bonus is the bathroom is super nice for a small NY restaurant and was spotless. Always a good sign. Beyond that, not much I can say. read more

Sunflower Cafe has been offering fresh, healthy, kosher dishes to the community for over 20 years. They serve mostly Middle Eastern inspired cuisine and none of the dishes offered contain any meat products, it's mostly garden fresh local produce, dairy products, pasta and wild caught fish. I've been there on a few different occasions and always liked the nice friendly staff, warm inviting atmosphere and of course delicious & nutritious food. Today we opted for a light lunch by ordering extremely popular Tomato Soup with melted cheese and it was a great pick for a very chilly early March afternoon-it tasted incredibly fresh like it was just cooked, with a delectable combination of different flavors, a bit savory, slightly sweet, a little tangy, perfectly seasoned and it had a huge dollop of yummy melted cheese inside which produced a TikTok worthy cheese pull that was definitely an added bonus for me. We also ordered a Chef's salad- Garden vegetables, artichoke, hard-boiled eggs, sweet corn, olives topped with feta cheese, mozzarella and cheddar. We added a side of tuna fish and avocado to it and it turned out to be a very largely sized, probably big enough for 3 people, full of fresh crispy veggies, savory olives, sweet corn, sliced hard boiled eggs, all of which was amazingly well complimented by the scrumptious house-made thousand islands dressing and topped with a mix of 3 different cheeses. I am not a big fan of salads but this one I enjoyed tremendously and would certainly order again. Lastly we ordered a side dish of truffle fries and once again were impressed by its incredible taste,abundance of different seasonings which included graded Parmagiano-Reggiano, garlic, parsley and of course very aromatic truffle oil. Fries were so warm, crispy and finger licking good, we couldn't stop eating it, unquestionably made my list of 10 Best Truffles Fries in the city. Prices are a bit on a higher side, but it's understandable considering its a certified kosher restaurant, premium quality of ingredients and huge portion sizes. All in all-very satisfying lunching experience, great place, vast menu, awesome food and service. Definitely recommend to visit or order online delivery asap. read more

Sunflower in my opinion is "okay" kosher food. I went there on a late night and ordered mozzarella sticks and an Israeli panini. It was okay, I would prefer a more crunchy exterior to the panini but it was nothing special. The mozzarella sticks were pretty basic. I think service was a bit disorganized as the restaurant was packed and we were a party of 7. Some of our friends did not get there food until after we finished eating...not cool. Portions are pretty large and things can be shared. Good kosher café to grab a bite. Indoor and outdoor seating. Always happy to order from here! The best dairy kosher place in Brooklyn! They have a cute patio to sit at for outdoor dining which is nice in the summer. My usual order is the create your own panini with mozzarella, gauc, roasted peppers, and portobello mushrooms. It comes with a side salad and sauces-- their pesto is amazing! Don't be fooled! The meal doesn't look it, but is extremely filling for something that you'd think to be so light. I decided to order something different today, the shuk salad, for lunch. It was HUGEEEE and had to share it with my dad. He ordered a fettuccini Alfredo with mushrooms. My one complaint is on the pasta. I wish they would cook it more al dente. With the super thick sauces like fettuccini Alfredo there needs to be some kind of texture otherwise it's unpleasant and mushy. Before covid it was tough getting a table, now it's limited to about 5 tables inside, and a small outdoor section as well. -Eggplant Panini: 3.5/5, not bad but not great. Everything was kind of just mush and hard to tell what was what. Very little eggplant but the bread is always great so it's hard to dislike the panini. -Health Juice (Apple, Beets, Carrot): 4/5, surprisingly very good. A bit of an acquired taste at first but I was surprised how good this was. Overall I don't ever go out of my way to come here but options are limited before 12 so this is a good option to have. Pricy ($17 paninis) but they're big so you don't feel like you're getting ripped off too bad. Decent food, great juice. read more

When a restaurant's menu leaves you unsure of what to order because you want to order everything, you know they do things right. While it's primarily a brunch place, they do have a full menu and are open as late as 10:30pm on Sundays for dinner. The highlight here, at least for me, are the sandwiches. They come on toasty sesame bread and are loaded with melty cheese, guac, veggies, egg, pesto, or any combination you want. The guac is great, so be sure to get it, either as an appetizer, or as part of the guac salad, or the guac sandwich. Pasta is a good one too, and so is the fish. Lemonanas are this fresh slushy minty lime drink that cannot be replicated. They've got stuffed baked potatoes, soups, and a pretty large wait staff (maybe even too many people for 6pm on a Sunday). This place gives off good vibes, despite the fact that prices seem to have gone up in recent years. You also need to ask for water and bread for the table. It's primarily a Jewish and Israeli crowd, and an Israeli wait staff. Ask for the charif (spicy sauce) and all of the dressings and sauces, they know what they are doing. read more

I'm not kosher, but my boyfriend's mom is and we have gone here several times. This is one of my favorite kosher spots and it's one with some of the fairest prices, compared to others. If you're looking for a recommendation of something to get, the baked ziti is personally my favorite. It's super cheesy!! I have also gotten eggs Paris, but I thought my scrambled eggs were a bit over cooked. The cool thing about the breakfast platters is that they come with salad (I got Caesar), freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee or tea. Sunflower Café is pretty famous with their omelettes. My favorite one is Sunflower omelette- they put spinach roasted pepper and feta cheese in it. The only one thing is they put too much feta cheese, which makes omelet too salty. When ordering tell them to put half of feta in your omelet and another half on the side. People who like the food to be on the salty side can always mix remaining feta with their omelet, especially it's taste much better when it's fresh instead of being cooked. Sunflower is the equivalent of the run off the mill diner with the exception of being kosher. I've ordered from here and met friends here plenty of times and my experiences are consistently OK. I'd rate the food at a nice 5.5 and service at a 6. I do like their shakshuka when they do it right. Many times I'd ask for the eggs to be runny, only to see it come to my table cooked fully. I hate that. I get that some people don't understand soft poached eggs, but I do and it annoys me when one does not cook it right. I like that they give huge portions but that does serve the high prices they charge. I also like that they are willing to substitute orders which is a plus for them. Between salads, paninis, fresh juices, a gazillion coffee varieties and desserts, you just can't go wrong. Everything is always fresh & delicious. I have been here many times and always find the staff friendly and helpful (which is not so authentically Israeli...lol). The only reason I'm with-holding the 5th star is because of the setting. The restaurant is too small for how popular it is, so its always uncomfortably crowded. They need to expand. One of my favorite kosher places in Brooklyn. They give toasted bread for the table. I love getting the breakfast specials because they come with coffee or tea and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. You can tell the food here is fresh. The ambiance is very pretty as well; the colors inside are bright and give an overall morning vibe. The limonana is a frozen drink with mint flavor in it and really hits the spot for someone looking for something fresh and cool on a hot day. The baked ziti is sooooo cheesy and would recommend if you are a cheese lover. My go to meal is the shakshuka. It is to die for. I love the cooked egg mixed with all the tomato sauce and peppers. It pairs really well with feta if you decide to pay the extra money for it. I highly recommend the shakshuka. I also dip the toast into it and eat it like a dip which makes it even more filling. Best dairy restaurant in the tristate area

To say Sunflower is my favorite kosher dairy spot is an understatement. This place never disappoints. From breakfast (I love the eggs) to lunch or dinner, I always leave satisfied. The French onion soup is my favorite French onion of all time. (It is also the reason behind this review as I am devouring as I type.) The halomi salad is also my main dish choice. The food's good. Lost 2 stars because I called to ask if they have outdoor seating they said they do but what they really had was an extension that is completely covered up with no windows. I asked about the shack they have in the street. They said they don't use it. Later I saw there were people there. I guess the waiter just didn't want to bother. If you're concerned about indoor dining because of covid, this is not the place to go. It's ok if they don't have it but lying about it is unconscionable.
