Gone are the glory days when the initial Columbia location on 9th street was a great place to eat with quality food and great service. I gave this location a shot recently when I was in a hurry and heading out of town. Servers were inattentive and had to ask me to repeat my order several times. Then I get my order and it wasn't what I ordered (bread). They acted like it was my fault and I suspect it was due to the inattentive person who took my order. They corrected it but acted like it was a big chore to do so. I used to get a tuna on rye bread sandwich every 2-3 weeks for many years after their franchises first opened. It didn't matter which location, it was always prepared consistently at any location. Then the first change; they always had a very generous amount of tuna on the sandwich. Then...boom...just a little sliver of tuna on the sandwich and lots of lettuce, tomato and onions to fill the sandwich out. Then...boom...they disconnected making rye bread. Then...boom...they discontinued making my favorite pastry the Bear Claw. Then...boom they discontinue the steakhouse salad after i switched to that after the tuna sandwich went downhill. Panera is a good example of what happens to quality when private equity investors take over a company that is in the service industry. I feel for the franchisees who have to live with corporate neglect and incompetence. I can't imagine they will still be in business nationwide 2-3 years from now. The original St.Louis Bread Co. owners must be depressed to see their quality operations turn into a total mess. read more

I've been going here since 2010 and it's never been as bad as it is now. Employees are way too slow, love wasting lots of time talking and complaining (especially Tina who is very rude, confrontational and apparently hates drink orders - I mean she did say it loud enough for waiting customers to hear) and not valuing the customers time and patience, so figure it was time to make a review. Even if you wanna risk it and put in an online order they will probably take 30 more minutes from the time their apps says it should have been done / given to customer. The service at Brickton Rd Panera Bread is less than one star 99% of the time now in 2026 so everyone might want to go to Columbia mall Panera Bread so you don't starve while wasting your time at this one. ;) read more

This place sucks but if you have a MyPanera account you can use it to your advantage to get meals half off. Every time you order online, the order will be late. I have ordered online here 20+ times and it has never been on time. Each time I have ordered online I get an email saying "Your order is running behind. We've just added a reward to your MyPanera account to make things right." So, every time this happens a reward is added to my account. Because it has never not been late, I have so many rewards stacked up and get most meals about half off and some completely free. To get around the inconvenience of the food being late just schedule the pickup order about an hour before you actually want to pick it up. From the bathroom code, to where the forks were located. I went at 9am and they were out of many bagel options, no one knew where the cream cheese was located. Today we order two identical pick twos. Bacon turkey bravo sandwiches and autumn squash soups. Got the soups, got one sandwich. This is regarding the Nifong location. I'm a regular and a sip club subscriber. I also DoorDash so get that they're busy. I called at 11am after realizing my $$$$ earbuds had fallen out of my pocket. After 13 rings, he picked up and said he didn't have time to look and to call back in 2 hours. These were pricey so I didn't feel like I could wait. I went to the store and purchased a lunch, then asked if somebody could look. Nope. The lady up front tried very hard to help me but didn't seem to know. So I asked for the manager who told me to come back in 2 hours. They didn't take my number, nothing. I get they're busy but just glance behind the register , ok? It takes 30 seconds. They seemed to be out of just about everything, the poor front register person seemed overworked, the fountain was dirty and broken, the bathroom was unpleasant with one poor worker trying to clean it by herself, no clean trays, and it took an hour to get our food even though the place was almost empty. When we got our food, the hot sandwich was cold and just dropped in pieces unwrapped onto everything in the bag, and the lettuce on my salad was limp and stringy and some of the strawberries were moldy or squashed. Everyone is giving this a low rating, but I had a great experience. I arrived around 7 o'clock, and when I walked in, there was a person wiping down tables. The people behind the counter gave us plenty of time to think, but were prepared when we stepped up, and took our order. The only inconvenience we experienced was that our order had to be taken in the to-go form, so we had to go pick it up when they called out our name. They explained that the washing machine had just broken and they didn't have any clean dishes, so it is very easy to understand. I don't hold that against them. When we did receive our food, everything was there, and it all tasted very good. We were visited several times by the employee who took our order, Sky. She was very kind, cleared our table of trash even though that is not a part of her job description, and was all around a very friendly, inviting person. read more

TDLR: This Panera sent me to the ER and told me it was my fault. I'm allergic to apples. Asked the cashier if there was any apple in their Strawberry Banana Smoothie and told her "I can't have apples". She told me there were no apples in the smoothie. I asked if she was sure and she said yes. 10 minutes later I'm having an anaphylactic reaction, pulled up the ingredients online, and there's apple puree in the smoothie. Panera denied liability because I "didn't use the word allergy" and "technically there were no apples blended into the smoothie, just apple puree".
