I have a dairy allergy so Panera has a limited menu for me. The waitress let me know most of my usual items were unavailable. As we were ready to leave the manager, Felix asked why. He then sent out his other manager, Ryan to create a meal for me. They were very pleasant and easy to work with. The food was fresh, the proper temperature and looked nice. That meal hit the spot. This is the worst experience of my life. They allowed another customer, with her mask fully down, to talk-breathe and hang out at the serving window. She was literally hanging on the counter with my hot drinks right in front of her. NO ONE said anything to her. A gift card of $10 and then another $12 was too much for a cold bowl of chowder, gritty salad, and a crusted spoon. When asking for a clean spoon, apologies were offered. But, when I took the soup back, the attitude was much different. The cook said she would have to "open a new bag", but she was told no but the window manager. Within 3 minutes I had a steaming hot bowl of soup. Can we say "MICROWAVE"? Maybe / maybe not? We have been to this location many times since it opened. Usually I love Panera, but after an 11 hour workday I went in for what I expected to be good comfort food. Instead I got some of the most burnt bacon I've ever seen. I ordered the Bacon Turkey Bravo. Without the bacon it's not complete and when the bacon is inedible you're going to get a terrible rating. Top it off with being talked about by the teenage staff nearby because my wife and I unkowningly sat in a section they were about to clean just made for a great experience. There were 2 other tables besides us there & crap was all over the floor, coffee urns were either empty or coffee was 4 hours old, staff was obviously apathetic, our soup was lukewarm & bread alongside it was straight up cold. Back when I worked in Gastonia, I ate at this Panera so often that I had the number programmed into my cell phone. Why did I need Panera's number, you ask... Because the wait there was always so long that I had discovered it paid to call ahead. They didn't really have a good system set up for picking up call-in orders, so I'd usually get the attention of one of the sandwich-makers and they'd go find my order. It was frustrating, but far less frustrating then the line that often went out the door. Still, the employees there were very friendly and the food was consistently good. The service at the Gastonia location has been declining DRAMATICALLY over the last year or so. I'm not sure if management has changed, but I've had several bad experiences here. A few months ago, they were out of bread. Tonight, we showed up about five minutes before closing (not ideal, I know). However, the lady behind the county basically barked at us, telling us they didn't have anything left before we could even order so much as a leftover muffin. Last year, they also lost my friend's order and left her sitting at the table with no food while everyone else had been served. Sandwiches are too expensive and are not worth the price. I paid about 10 bucks for a small bag of those extra hard chips and a half sandwich. I requested roast beef with white cheddar, they peppered my meat to the tenth degree, it was inedible! I literally had to take apart my sandwich and pat it down with paper towel. Whoever dashed all that pepper on that sandwich should be let go. Wasn't worth the money, next time I'll go to McAllister's and get more bang for my buck. read more

Terrible food. I ordered a half sandwich and soup to go and it was ready in about 60 seconds. I just figured they had some skilled sandwich makers back there but this turkey apple cheddar sandwich was made hours ago, if not earlier. The bread is soggy wet all the way through and I had to peel it off the wrapper. The contents look just as old and sloppy, I have posted pictures separately. This place can be great or a disaster. I have found that it is impossible to eat here on Sunday's for lunch. I have tried but it took 45 minutes for me to receive a salad. Some times during the week they run out of simple food and that can be disheartening. They do have a great menu and there are many opportunities to customize your meal. I have never had an issue with the taste of the food but the service needs some improvement. It's fast casual and they bring you your food after you order at the front. I like the kiosk options because it lets you explore the menu more. The tables in the cafe are often dirty or sticky. I have never seen it genuinely clean when I enter. The drive through is descent but can sometimes take a while. I prefer now to order on the app on my phone for rapid pick up and then take my food home to eat. Many of my favorites seems to be seasonal. I enjoy the black bean soup and the sesame Asian chicken salad. read more

The most horrendous and awful customer experience I have ever encountered.. my girlfriend and I came in to order and while I was still figuring out what I wanted, a random worker named Ashley came to the cash register out of the blue just to ignorantly say "I never know when I see two females together if they are a couple or just friends" umm excuse me but WHAT?! So I went ahead shrugged it off and ignored it, but then 5 minutes later she yet again comes back to say something utterly offensive and completely vile and rude. talking about an old couple coming in late and how they took 30 minutes to order then sat down for 30 more minutes and that "it's okay because COVID will get them" sooo not only is she talking unprofessionally and execrably about your customers but she's wishing harm and illness and even possibly death to them as well. In my eyes I don't see how that will ever be excusable. What's even worse is she actually excused it as being from Cali and that's why she has "no filter". Girl, I don't care if you're from the north pole you're old enough to know you need to have your head screwed on right and learn common decency and respect. Something you were (or should've been) taught at a young age. I've been to Cali multiple times and no one has shown an ounce of ignorance the way she did. As we walked out with our food, a family parked in the front stopped us and told us that they heard what she said to us and immediately walked out because of how disrespectful it was, what's crazy is they didn't even get to hear the last part! They then go on to tell us about their terrible experience they had with the SAME girl. We then go on to say something to the manager Wes, he says he will handle it but we all had a feeling nothing was actually going to be done about it. I don't see how actions like this can go completely undetected and looked over as if nothing happened. I boycotted this Panera since my last review in December, almost a year later I decide to try it again to see if anything has changed. Regret soon followed this decision. My fiance and I went for dinner on a Friday night. The customer service was the biggest problem this time. The girl that took our order and brought our food was completely checked out. She seemed to be half listening when taking our order and then when she brought our food it was ridiculous. She brought me the wrong order and when I tried to say something about it she walked away. When she came back with my fiance's food I said something to her again and she stopped to listen but then looked in another direction while I was talking to her. When I finished talking she looked at me with a "I could care less" look and said... "huh?" I was in disbelief at her lack of manners. She then grabbed the plate and asked another staff member "Who's Tino?" and proceeds to take the plate directly to the table the other employee pointed to. That plate sat at my table for a few minutes before she took it. When we got our food it wasn't horrible, but again they don't know how to evenly distribute the ingredients and mac and cheese was disappointing. I think they may have changed their mac and cheese, downgraded it or something but kept the price the same. I guess I really have given up on this Panera. I don't see why anyone spends their money here. I certainly won't from this point forward. read more

I ordered the chicken panini. It was 2 large pieces of ciabatta with 2 and 1/4 of the most minuscule pieces of chicken ever- basically a bread sandwich! My husband picked it up so we didn't discover until we opened at home. I tried to call twice (7:45 ish pm on a Saturday) the phone rang for 4 minutes before disconnecting me both times. Came for a large bagel order as I was doing a bagel platter for a family get together. Unfortunately the majority of the bagels were sliced incorrectly and the bottoms were small slivers with thick tops, they were definitely not something I could present on a bagel platter. I picked this up from the drive through and ended up going inside to resolve the issue. It was disappointing because at this point most of the bagels were sold out. I believe the managers name was Jordan but the reason I am leaving 5 stars is because of the way the manager handled the situation. He was extremely professional and beyond friendly. I understand being a manager is this industry can be difficult especially when dealing with incorrect orders and unhappy customers but I was so impressed with his professionalism. I will definitely return to this location based on how well the manager handled this situation. He replaced whatever bagels we could replace and then substituted the rest for pastries, he even threw in a few extra muffins and even offered to throw in some cream cheese on the house. The experience at Panera has really gone down hill. The counter staff is so busy filling call-in orders they don't have time for customers. "Go use the self-help order pad " is not the way to great guests. When I did finally get service, the hot toasted and buttered bagel came to the table cool and with packets of butter. Something so simple as a coffee and bagel order can certainly be handled better. I used to love this place. So sad the company expects iPads to replace a smiling face, welcome greeting and personal service first thing in the morning. read more

Panera is usually a great chain and experience is generally consistent. Tonight I was in Gastonia NC and decided to order with the mobile app so I could customize my order. The challenge came when the usually smooth Panera Rapid Pickup experience backfired. Evidently this location was out of an item I ordered, despite it being shown as available. Instead of red tagging my order, or holding it for pickup, or even leaving a notice in the box rather than my bag, they left the bag in the box short the item. In fairness, they did make a tiny scribble on the receipt which I later determined o mean see cashier. That said, the scribble did not stand out in any way and the order was ready to go. Panera markets this as a walk in and grab your order service. If there was an issue, something should have been done to bring it to my attention. Worse was the follow up. I looked up the restaurant phone number (not on the receipt) and called there. Mind you the app is so you do not have to talk to anyone. I spoke to the manager of the location and she seemed to think there was no issue. She offered to send me some sort of voucher for the item. I did not want a voucher. I had simply called to ask her to refund the missing item. When asked to do so, she told me that Panera cannot make refunds but that she could send me a voucher or I could stop by this cafe and get the item at another time. This location is over 1000 miles from my home. She insisted that my credit card could not be refunded for the item so I asked her to refund the order rather than charge me for an item they did not provide. I was told Panera does not allow refunds. Ridiculous. To add insult to injury, I had to eat my salad with a spoon as the plasticware was not included in my order. read more

I ordered a Modern Caprese sandwich and all that was on my sandwich when I got home was arugula and a little bit of melted cheese. This place is awful. Ate there last week with my wife and 2 kids. We spent $65 dollars and left hungry. The food tasted microwaved and the bread was hard as a rock. The salad looked and tasted like it was 3 days old. The silverware was dirty. I had to go back and get a clean fork for me and my little girl. The table we ate at was dirty and sticky. And it was the cleanest one we could find. The floor needed to be cleaned as well. We should have ate outside. The tables were cleaner out there. We will never go back to this place! read more
