We stopped by Pita Wheel after a trip to Crowders mountain. It was close to 60 degrees out and a sunny afternoon, so the patio was nearly full. We had our pup with us and were glad there were still some open tables. Our waitress was great and offered a bowl of water for our girl first thing. I had the Grecian chicken pita with sweet potato fries. The lettuce, tomato and tzatziki added a fresh taste to the pita. The opinions were good but saucy and made it a little messy. I'll leave them off next time. My husband had the Reuben and onion rings and really enjoyed both of them. (The onion rings were SO GOOD!! ) There was plenty of parking in the lot next door. We found two roaches in the restaurant. One crawling on the wall in the kitchen and one at the floor at our table, we ordered drinks and food and canceled our order maybe 5 minutes later. The staff tried to make us pay for our food when we didn't even eat it. We had to pay for drinks, no discount for the inconvenience. A nice food option for downtown Gastonia. In the space that was formerly a Sinclair gas station. It has a bar with several chairs where you can eat and get served. There are several tables and booths in the same area. Then there is another larger dining room with many tables of various sizes. Outside a very large covered patio area with picnic tables. It's very casual and a hang-out for the locals. A large HDTV over the bar and several smaller ones scattered throughout. This place has evolved from a food truck business with another location in Belmont. Evidently the Dallas, NC location didn't survive. I was with a group of four meeting up on a wet Friday evening in December before a show at the near-by Rooster music venue. The service was really good and I liked the various food options that lean toward greek food. They also have burgers and other sandwiches. It appears they have food and beverage specials. I had the Carolina Chipotle pita, the tase was OK but it was so wet from the sauce it fell apart before I could finish eating it. I came here with a buddy for dinner this past Saturday evening and had a very good time. Live music and a delicious craft beer was perfect after a long day of traveling on the road. This is definitely the local hangout spot. I got the Cheech & Chong and their beer special was $1 off all North Carolina beers on Monday. Very laid-back place with great staff, who is very friendly and chatty. They definitely made you feel like one of the locals! We choose to sit outside they have picnic tables that could use some updating. Drink and food order taken quickly. It was beautiful outside. Arrived around peak dinner time and there's free parking with convenient spaces close to the restaurant. Vibes have me a garage feel and laid back. The portions were huge! We ordered an order of wings, gyro pita, chicken pita, and a burger. Sauces were delicious and the sides were awesome. We got an order of truffle fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries. Cons would have to be the chicken in the pita was extremely dry that it couldn't be swallowed without water. And there's only one bathroom for men's and women's. We were only trying to wash our hands and I think we tried to at least 5 times. Recommendation would be to add a sink outside? Service was great! read more

This is the third time I have tried Pita Wheel, Gastonia, not by choice. First two times, I ordered chicken items and they were both severely dry. So, this time I tried the Gyro. I took a bite of it and the meat, if that's what you want to call it, was ice cold. I asked them to microwave it. Jokingly, I told everyone at the table; right now, everybody in the back is touching it. The manager, who was very apologetic and friendly, told me a few had touched it (LOL) and it was ice cold. And there was an issue with communication in the kitchen. The Gyro meat is actually prepackaged slices they most likely heat. She said a fresh one was being made, which was very appreciative. The only problem is, my sandwich came out after everybody packed up their leftovers. I picked at it, while we all talked and the meat is disgusting. A Gyro is supposed to be lamb. A steakum would have been better. The bill came out with my Gyro and I paid $15 for a pita bread with lettuce and tomato. They actually should have comped the sandwich and kept it. I gave it one star for the appetizers and one star for the trainee, Trinity. She was friendly and attentive to our seven party's requests. Filled drinks without even asking. Savannah, our server, took our orders and rarely came back to the table. She seemed annoyed and it wasn't even that busy. At the end of the meal, our appetizer trays were still on the table, making it very uncomfortable. Others at our table also had issues with their food. I went to the Pita Wheel twice, within a seven day period, and enjoyed it both times. However, I did notice that the first time I ate there I got a smaller portion of onion rings, than I did the second time that I went there, but no biggie.There was a young lady that serviced me both times that I ate at this establishment. She was working during the mid day, lunch hour and she has brunette hair ( very sweet young lady). The portion size is great and the tea was delicious. The first time I ate at a Pita Wheel I ate outside, and one of the umbrellas almost hit me, but my awesome server caught it for me and the second time I visited this restaurant I ate inside with a friend. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff very friendly, accommodating and helpful. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the soft drinks tasted flat. read more

My family and I were in Gastonia for a tennis event for my daughters and we stopped in to the Pita Wheel for dinner. First of all the service was great. Adi was our waitress and she was very nice and helpful. I didn't get a picture of everyone's meals but everyone was very pleased. I had the Cheech and Chong Pita. It was delicious! I couldn't finish it all. Fries were excellent! My only regret is that I didn't get the onion rings. I saw another patron with onion rings and immediately had FOMO. I'll be back to try them another day. The place is very cute with a little rustic vibe. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is always a nice option depending on the weather. We sat inside because it was a bit warm outside. They opened the large garage door when we were there and it kind of connects the indoors with the outdoors but didn't make it incredibly hot inside. Wanted to "go vegetarian" for dinner so I ordered the fala(awful). Looked good but the falafel was so salty and had a weird aftertaste that I barely choked it down. They nailed the crunch but (Lord have mercy) the inside was a slice of hell. The Mac and cheese was decent and the Wisconsin apple cider was mighty tasty. I placed a to go order for myself and three coworkers for lunch. It was ready in a timely manner and we got there at 11:30 AM for pick up. Our order was ready and we walked away chatting about if we should just sit outside and eat the meal there before heading back to the office. A worker stopped my coworker and told them we could not sit at the tables but could sit at the high tops on the edge. There are high tops with no back support and a thin ledge to hold your food. While he didn't question her statement, I'm wondering why this is the case. It was 11:30 AM on a Wednesday, there was one other guest and this establishment could easily serve sixty guests at once. We tipped on order, so I don't see why we would not be allowed to eat at the tables of the restaurant we just bought food from. If it was busy or outside food, I would understand. Seemed odd. On another note the wraps/sandwiches are good portions and tasty. However, their fries are not Parmesan/Truffle flavored at all. They are not crispy and rather soggy. I would eat here again based on the food but I would not based on the service. read more

Obviously, as a fat man, I take food very seriously. If you ask anyone who knows me where my favorite restaurant is, they'll all tell you without hesitation that it's Pita Wheel in Gastonia. The servers are all incredibly friendly and helpful. They treat everyone like they're best friends. The food is always fresh, hot, and gets to the table quick. Everything on the menu is delicious (and when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. I've had it all) so you can't go wrong. My personal recommendations are the Fried Pickle Philly or the Southern Philly (and you can substitute chicken in place of the steak, which I often do), however the monthly specials are always incredible as well, so you HAVE to go more than once (I average at least once per week). There's plenty of room inside and out, so there's seldom a long wait for a table (although when the weather is nice, especially between April-September, the wait time can get up there, but that should attest to just how amazing Pita Wheel truly is). My favorite is the Rueben but today I ventured out for some nachos. They were good but the Rueben remains my #1. My friend ordered the Cheech & Chong, I t's always a good choice too. I can honestly say I've never had anything I didn't like. Oh and I mixed two beers today and it was delightful. There is a chalkboard with a mulititude of beers, ciders and sours, something for everyone and the mixed drinks are spot on as well, thanks to the amazing bar babes. When driving through an abandoned town built in the 20's and you see EVERYONE... and I mean EVERYONE in town at a restaurant... it's either a political event... OR it's the best food in town! With plenty of outdoor seating, lots of parking and a solid menu of burgers, bar-food and some wraps, this is a GREAT place to stop and watch the game on the multiple big-screen TVs in the bar area. Fresh bun, tasty burger well-done and fresh toppings that made it a great after-hike meal choice. There is a decent size but GOOD selection of local brew on-tap, I sampled some and settled on a blackberry cider that was smooooooth and not overly sweet and just the PERFECT amount of ABV!!! We like to come here for lunch and enjoy a filling lunch. It isn't where you come for a healthy lunch, but the portions are large and you will certainly leave feeling full! A big favorite are the Philly pitas - packed with flavor and perfectly chopped steak! You can't go wrong with any of their options, especially the cheech and Chong!
