I'm going to begin with the bad and end with the very good. I've been a Panera member for many years over many states and never had a single complaint...until today in New Bern. The bad were the people behind the counter who made the food. They used stale bread, complained a lot, and couldn't be bothered to put my bagged order in the pick-up section. I waited nearly ten minutes after the 'ready by' time before asking them about my order. They never put it out. It was sitting in the back; meaning the food was cold and the smoothie was warm. That said, Panera management and Panera corporation responded immediately to my first-time complain and made it right. I have honestly never had such a quick and positive response from any food organization...ever. Top notch. Thank you, Mr. Bartelt. Generous portions came up to the pick-up window quickly. Margot was very nice! We had purchased one of the petite chocolate chip cookie bags, and noticed it only had 11 cookies- one short. Margot happened to be walking by, and when we mentioned it, she kindly offered to make it right by giving us another cookie. I love going to Panera bread, and this was my first time coming to this particular location. Ordering was easy, however there was limited staff due to some meeting that was occurring in the main dining room. My relative wanted to come here to sit next to the fireplace since it was 40 degrees outside, but to our disappointment, store management had taken the best seats around the fireplace. Not to mention they were not wearing masks during the covid pandemic. A small table eventually opened up but it was not cleaned. We ended up finding cleaning supplies while the employees who were within 6 feet of us were talking. Other than that, the food was fine. I got the grilled cheese and broccoli Mac n cheese which tasted great. I hope the next time I come here that we can enjoy one of the fireside tables. read more

Very disappointed with the Asian Chicken Salad I purchased at drive through. Underneath what looked like fresh salad was rotten lettuce. Almost half the salad. The chicken smelled and tasted spoiled. So I ate there for the first time yesterday. The food was ok, small baguette sandwiches. Be very careful about the very misleading menu setup. They have this thing called pick two, where it seems you get two items for the price listed. When I was finished ordering I was shocked that lunch cost me and my wife $53. Don't let them talk you into picking two items. And $3.50 for a drink is a bit much. All This and they have the nerve to ask for a tip for the person making your sandwich. They are organized & professional which makes me feel confident that the food is fresh & healthy. Just had the worst service at the location in New Bern, NC. We came in at 8:40 pm to grab a quick bite, and after we ordered we heard a kid behind the prep counter complaining about people like us who come in so close to closing time and stay in to eat. We left around 9:05 and they were still cleaning, so it's not as though we held anyone up. The last time we were there another worker rushed through on his way to the pastries and cut off an elderly lady without even saying excuse me to any of us. Really makes you want to take your business somewhere else no matter how much you like the food. Some customer service training is DEFINITELY needed at this location! read more

What a lovely surprise! We stopped here to avoid a fried food drive thru on the way to the beach! We used the awesome panera app to order b/c our dog was with us. When I walked in the manager was double checking the order for accuracy--um, yay!! It was accurate & super delicious. We sat outside on their swanky patio with cushy seats in the shade with the pooch. The owner even gave us a bowl so we could hydrate Fido! Definitely a fan. I just wanted a light meal because I had to eat later, so I got the grilled cheese sandwich, and a flavored lemonade... I usually love panera, but this was a bad experience. We paid far too much for the level of service we were provided. The cashier looked hesitant to take our order and was confused and very slow. She never smiled. They were out of a lot of food but did not tell us, just left croutons and dressing off of our salads. They gave us tiny portions of lukewarm food. They were out of BREAD. Isn't bread in the name? "Panera Bread." My Apple had a huge bruise on it. Turns out they were having an employee meeting so they closed at early. We didn't know. For some reason, I've always been a little intimidated by "Panera Bread" sandwhich shop. I guess I didn't think I was hipster enough, or uppity enough, or I just didn't feel like wranglers and boots were accepted. Well I was wrong. They loved my style, and my smile ;-). Dropped by twice in two days, even rolled up with a lip of long cut wintergreen and the server didn't even bat an eyelid. I guess what ol Trump says, "money is money, don't matter if it come from the Pope or Putin, I'm bout that them dollas bitch!" Got me some chicken extravaganza the first day and some steak mess the second. Both were fairly worthy of 4 stars. I'll never back down from stepping into a Panera Bread again. I'm almost a little ashamed of admitting my fears, but step 1 to conquering them is looking them dead in the eye, and saying "you can do it". Well I did. Expensive for what you get - good bread with very little inside. Mediterranean Veggie at $7.39 had barely a teaspoon of feta, 4 thin slices of unripe tomato, small piece of lettuce, less than a teaspoon of finely chopped cucumber and maybe 2 teaspoons of pickled peppers with a thin spread of pesto mayo. None of these ingredients are expensive. Chicken salad was a small scoop in center of sandwich. TEACH your employees how to make a sandwich with the filling spread out to the edge of the bread - you should get filling in every bite. read more

You would think these places would be consistant. This place uses processed meats, so-so sandwich breads, although place is known for bread. Sour dough baguette that came on the side of the sandwich (go figure) was good. They eere out of veggie soup, the main reason I come to the place. Got a different soup. Prosaic. Worse, not hot. With all the competition in this class of restaurant, you would think some brand would emerge as a quality leader. I have never been a fan of this place and really only like the Italian, pickles, and broccoli cheese soup, but they just changed two of the three. Went in the morning to buy two iced lattes and 2 cookies. Not only was is expensive (over $12), but it took close to 10 minutes to get my drinks, and they did not get the drink order right (they gave me two caramel lattes with NO caramel.
