This is my second review, as usual Yelp lost or deleted the last one. This is my second time here, the first time I was just looking for a quick lunch and then I can back this time with my wife. First off, the name is a little deceiving, this place has a more complete menu than just pizza and sandwiches. And then there is the bakery section! Don't miss that! I've tried the Ruben which was great, best I've had since I moved to NC. Both times we had the fries which are generous and there was plenty for us to share. The vibe here is local, there are clearly regulars and everyone is friendly, including the other customers who are all chatty and friendly. The staff is prompt and professional but also have that more casual vibe, we felt our waitress cared about us genuinely. I see other complain that its busy, if a restaurant is not busy it's failing. We did not have to wait, sat ourselves and were immediately brought menus. Our lunch was great and filling. But then we headed to the bakery... It's small but it has everything, cakes, cookies, preserved jellies. artisan olive oils, pastry, cupcakes etc. Everything we have tried has been really good. There are no batteries in the town where we live, and none in the two neighboring towns either despite being larger than New Bern. We find ourselves in New Bern a few times a month and are adding Famous Subs and Pizza to our list of regular stops. Even if we are not eating here we will pick up a selection of treats and fresh bread to take home with us. read more

This place was busy and it's a seat yourself! This is not a good idea as you will get overlooked. We basically had to push someone out of their booth. We sat immediately once they got up, sat at a dirty table for about 10 minutes until acknowledged. Had to ask for a table wipe down. Horrible way to do this seating. Food was good. This restaurant is great. Really enjoyed the food, the service was fast and super friendly, and it was a nice, clean, cool place. We actually ended up here twice on our trip to New Bern. But the menu was so big and had so many options that it felt like going to two different places! The appetizer list looked great. Over the two visits, we had the cheese fries, tzatzaki with pitas, spanikopita, and mozzarella sticks (there were like 8 of us, don't judge me). The cheese fries were amazing. It was like they took a pound of mozzarella and just shoved fries in it. Absolutely delicious, and different than what I was expecting, in a good way. The star is the tzatzaki. I could put that on anything! Some of our party even used it as salad dressing. Unfortunately for me I didn't try the pizza, but it looked great and everyone said it was fantastic. I had the gyro, which was really great, a good lamb/beef mix with great seasoning. I don't know if the pitas were homemade but either way they were fantastic. The second time I went I decided to try the wings, because they looked so good the last time. They were very good, although personally I would have preferred hotter and more sauce, but that's just personal preference, they were delicious. One last thing. We were here for a party, and we had a cake that was made in their bakery. It was so good. Perfect ratio of cake to icing, and not too sweet but delicious! read more

I had gone into the bakery on Monday and got a latte which was terribly burnt to the point I could not drink it. I was unable to call in and let them know before the bakery had closed so I went today, Wednesday of the same week. I informed the employee I had come in two days prior and received the burnt latte and asked if it was possible to have it remade. The employee says nothing and disappears for 5 mins then returns and asked what kind of drink it was. She remakes the drink and hands it to me but aggressively says next time call the same day because we can't prove it was our fault, which was unprofessional but whatever maybe she was having a bad day. I stepped out to try the drink and it was burnt yet again. I stepped back in to store to let her know it was burnt and she replies with well maybe you don't like our roast. I've had a few drinks from there before and never had any issue. That girl was highly unprofessional and rude. I will not be returning. read more

After Tryon Palace we were hoping to stop at a pizzeria nearby but they're closed on Sundays! Yelp search led us to Famous Pizza because I saw a review saying BEST PIZZA IN NEWBERN... I can honestly say that this IS the best pizza I've ever had in Newbern.. ok it's the only pizza I've had in Newbern but that's beside the point. The amount of takeout orders they were cranking out is in indication that it's a local favorite. What really cinched that 5th star was the attached bakery. HOLY MOLY! My blood sugar skyrocketed just by walking over to the bakery side and seeing the most beautiful sweet treats (and a few savory as well) . I picked up a few cannolis and a slice of strawberry cheesecake for the hubs. If they taste as good as they look then I may need some insulin! I ordered a tossed salad. No surprise there, plain old to go carton of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, a few slivers of green pepper and an egg. My husband ordered a Greek salad. Wow!!!! He got the same carton as described but the "Greek" was accomplished by a couple of ripe olives and two chunks of Feta cheese. Now the lettuce in both salad was plain ice berg lettuce with a sprig or two of "mixed green". These salads were quite disappointing. Money will be spent next time a Teeters, they have wonderful premade salads. read more

Their service for carry out is fast, a little bit slower waiting to dine in but the ambiance is very chill and family style. I've never tried something here I don't like. Delicious. I got in town a little late and was told everything restaurant-wise closes early, so to find food before settling in. This restaurant was recommended to me by the lady at National Car Rental. Getting to the restaurant, I was hungry, and honestly, there were too many items to choose from! Do I get a sandwich, burger, Italian dish, pizza, or Greek food? I left it in the hands of my waitress, Dallas, to steer me. She was helpful and attentive; she kept my drink full. All around, it was a good experience. What a fun Monday night surprise! We were coming through New Bern on the late side (after 8 p.m.) and wanted to grab something for dinner. I'm so glad I saw this open on Google! We enjoyed a gyro platter, veggie gyro wrap, and two incredible desserts from the bakery. Dallas, our server, was an absolute rockstar! The food was delicious! I came to my hometown for my Class Reunion and a few of us met at Famous for a well needed lunch. We dined in and I had the steak and cheese sub and it tastes as good as it looks. The service was mediocre but the food made the difference. The portions are big and everything we had was tasty. The service was fast and they were very nice. The place is clean and well lit. The steak fries are big and potatoey( if that's a word lol) The pepper steak sub was really good the sauce is amazing and the steak is seasoned perfectly. It's been a few months since I was here but thought it'd be fair to do a review. I got the gyro which had to be sent back because it was made poorly. The gyro was decent but nothing to write home about. The decor and inside of the restaurant is dated and needs to be updated. There were plenty of employees crowding around the register but none could be found in the dining area. Having the bakery attached is nice and probably the best part of the experience. I'll go back to the bakery but don't feel great about the dinning experience here. read more
