I ordered 26 bagels and cream cheese they catering. I will never do that again. After paying $40 for that and needing them today, I got a phone call saying they were ready and an email confirmation. When my husband went there they said they had the order but had no bagels ready. He asked to speak with manager and he was told she was "too busy". We got the refund but I needed them for today. No customer service. I called the store and asked to speak to manager and an associate stated manager was busy. I said I'd wait. Someone in the background then said to hang up. AND... that associate did. I was hung up on. I called back and obviously another associate answered the phone and sweetly explained the system went down and allowed people to order bagels that were not able to be made. NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 5-7 business days for my refund and had to find somewhere that has that many bagels today. Corporate office did nothing as well. Not returning. I work in service industry. The past 3 or 4 times that we have been to this location, they always seem out of food. Tonight we went and they did not have any bread or chips for the sides, they had no tomatoes or basil for sandwiches and salads. How does a restaurant with thus reputation keep running into these problems week in and week out. This Panera at the Perkiomen location is highly unlikeable. The staff are rude and don't treat you like a valued customer, they really couldn't care less about you. Compared to the Panera at the Wyomissing area, they're actually considerate and don't kick you out when there's still half an hour before closing unlike the Perkiomen Panera. Don't go unless you want terrible service with staff that get your order wrong. read more

Panera Bread claims to be about good food, good service and fair trade. In my recent experience only one of those things is true. I delivered a good-sized catering order as a doordash delivery driver and best that I can ascertain, the customer left a tip but Panera kept it for themselves. Their Customer Service stated, in writing, that they are aware of the error and have sent recompense through DoorDash. DoorDash states they have no record of any additional transactions on this order. Think twice before using Panera Bread for your catering needs, their food may be good but your generosity may just be lining corporate pockets and screwing over the little guy. read more

Meh. Think twice about ordering the new baguette sandwiches. $11 for a piece of bread, some cheese, and a few bits of pepperoni, then toasted. Yep, fool me once, shame on you.. fool me twice, shame on me.. so never again. Same with those ridiculously overpriced chicken sandwiches. Also, I found this interesting... we walked into the store, placed our order, and when she flipped the pad around there was an option to tip. Tip for what? For allowing me to place my order the only way I can place my order being a walk-in? You did *nothing* that warranted a tip. The people in the back did *nothing* to warrant a tip. Everyone did their job that they were required to do, satisfactorily. The employee up front took my order, processed my payment. Satisfactory. The people in the back assembled and heated up items they have in inventory. Satisfactory. That's what they *have to do*... Why am I being asked for a tip? How else could I have ordered my food since I was a walk-in? How else could I get my food prepared? They're supposed to perform these tasks! Who gets those tips? Are they divided equally among every employee during the day? Only at the end of the day? What if someone in the back excelled and deserved a tip? I'd never know. read more

I love Panera's food so whenever I find myself in an unfamiliar area and see their sign I got to stop for lunch! This location was a typical Panera's although the layout felt a little disjointed. The cashier was friendly and exceeded at her job, speaking to us clearly and making eye contact. She was trying to up-sell (the .99 cookie special) but was doing it in a way that seemed natural and not scripted. She was a model employee to have representing the front of the house. They even had the discontinued Sierra Turkey on their secret menu. Score! In the dining area the layout as mentioned before felt disjointed - a wall here, a corner there. Like little hubs of tables separated by a half wall, whole wall or drink station. Unlike other locations that deliver to your table this Panera's still gives you the buzzer and you have to go to the counter for your meal after it's made. I did see some tables that could have been wiped off and didn't see any staff tending to the dining area, but overall it was acceptable and clean. Water cups were undersized - only about 8 oz.'s while other locations will give you a full size 12 oz. cup. Our meals were made well. I like to exclude onion and add extra chipotle mayo on the side when I order the sierra turkey. Most locations screw this up. This location however got it right! read more

I would honestly give it 5 star review except I didn't appreciate the long hair at the bottom of my plate which my sandwich was sitting on. I'll preface this by saying that I generally like Panera Bread's food. When it's made right, you can't beat it for the price. Having said that, I can't remember the last time the Exeter store got my order correct. My usual is the Fuji Apple Salad with Chicken, and I'll add avocado and egg, which they're usually quick to point out cost extra. Something will ALWAYS be missing. Usually it's one of the extras, even though I was charged for it, but it could literally be anything. The last time they even forgot to include the chicken, and threw in some weird wonton strips for no apparent reason. Other than that, there are a laundry list of grievances. I won't bother ordering sandwiches there, as they're usually out of the appropriate bread. They randomly close early on Sunday nights, right around dinner time, for meetings, but choose to leave all their lights and drive-thru sign on, luring you into attempting to order, only to be reminded that they're in fact closed. They still have a sign on their drive-thru speaker saying that they're open until 10pm on Sundays, but if you try and order after 9, they'll tell you that they'reclosed. Etcetera. I've never had these problems at the Wyomissing store. The differences between these two stores are like night and day. Edit: Made the mistake of going back. God knows why. Drive-thru was basically useless. Cash only. Apparently it's been like this for a week. Had to go in. Placed an order, and the guy at the register didn't seem to know what planet he was on. Failed to give me a cup for an iced coffee. Had to ask for one when my food was ready. Predictably, they were out of iced coffee. I let them know, and was directed by another teenager as to the location of the coffee dispenser, again, which I then had to demonstrate the lack of said coffee to employee. Was greeted with an explanation of how hey "make" their iced coffee (hint: they just water down regular stuff). I left after being dissatisfied with their offer to "make more, but it's going to be a while". Expect less and corporate America will surpass your expectations. PANERA is all that's wrong in the food industry.Corporate kitchens creating lovely looking dishe that are tasteless and freeze well. "Par Baked" goods that are FROZEN and reheated and served at point of sale. Years ago the TV diners in the supermarkets accomplished what Panera does all over the country. Panera is this generation version of McDonald's with new window dressing. The service and knowledge Is non existent at this location. Really an insulting concept and execution setting the bar lower for consumers. Frozen soups , Frozen food , Frozen baked goods reheated at point of sale is a bad formula for a consumer. Expect more shop local and reject this sub par concept. Dozens of places in the area that are better than Panera at a better value. Awful. read more

The east side of town finally has a comfy place to grab a coffee with a friend. This Panera has a more intimate design of nooks and crannies where you can hide out. (But don't overstay your visit; they cut off your wireless at busy times.) At least this desolate parking lot (with a Boscov's discount center of some kind still there) now has something more interesting than cracked asphalt and weeds. I remember when everyone parked here to go to the bar Possibilities, which is now a bank. This Panera has lots of windows and light. No non-dairy creamer in sight (soy milk doesn't cut it, but I didn't see that either). Coffee places have to step this up. Menu is very meat and dairy heavy, with nothing completely-plant-based in sight. Once in a while, they will have black bean soup, which I think is vegan, but you might have to make sure they don't put cheese on it. I think a nicely-designed cozy place like this could have a lighter and fresher menu. I'll be back for a quick coffee though. read more

Whatever Panera Bread in Exeter is doing, keep doing it! What a difference! And, ok, even though I said I wouldn't be back (back in November of 2014), I lied. Friends and family told me about the improvements, so my daughter and I stopped by last week. They were right. Went through the drive-thru and received prompt courteous service. I ordered the roasted turkey and caramelized kale panini with the vegetarian garden soup with pesto. I honestly wished I had ordered a whole panini because it was incredible. Well made, cheese melted just right, appropriately filled with moist turkey and awesome kale. The soup was very good but needed more pesto. My daughter ordered the broccoli cheddar soup (which she loved) and Mediterranean Veggie sandwich (she said it was ok but not her favorite). The baguettes which accompanied our soups were perfect. Good job, Exeter Panera! I'm always happy to see a business listen to their customers and make improvements and succeed. read more

I've been to this Panera Bread location three times in the past few months, and I have to say that they must have corrected the food quality problems and incompetent staff issues reported by other Yelpers, because all of my meals and all of the service I received were superb. The only quality issue I did have was a strange machine oil odor and flavor in my Pepsi (my two dining buddies could smell it too). However when I took it back, the manager was completely helpful, concerned, and readily allowed me to select another beverage. I tried the Pepsi again last week and it was fine. Now I suppose I should just stop my review right here, but I want to share an observation about Panera's ordering process... I'm a well travelled, college educated IT professional, but I just can't get the system down on placing a simple lunch order at Panera. There are too many freaking decisions to make to get lunch! Now I love the variety of interesting menu choices, but the sheer number of minute adjustments I need to reconcile before they hand me the pager astonishes me. Half or whole? Pick two? Two of what? Two of anything. Oh. After quickly glancing back to the menu board I add a 'half' of a Bistro Onion Soup. Smiling confidently I hand her the card and she asks, backetapplorchips? Huh? Following her sweetly enunciated version I choose the baguette then again go to hand her my card... would you like to add a bakery item to that for 99 cents? Any bakery item? Well anything in that case. By now the line is wrapped around the building, so I just decline. I can't imagine going through this ordeal in the drive thru! We are in the world of custom ordering of everything, and I know it is only moving more in that direction, but there needs to be a way to order in a simpler way with fewer fine adjustments to my lunch. More pictures on the wall chart would be a good start. Perhaps a few numbered combo meal deals would keep the lines moving faster, and give the less concerned an easy way out. Aside from a very very busy opening and being out of certain items is understandable, service is great, food tastes very good, and it comes out pretty quick. This panera has a Drive through, unlike the other location near Wyomissing, however it is not a stand alone building. It isn't Very vegan friendly as far as regular food goes, but those people can eat a salad shut up. A good step in the right direction for Exeter, along with the moes location opening up too ( they have vegan choices however). read more

We arrived with the intention of buying some pastries and bagels to bring to a family gathering, but the cashier Missy just wasn't having it. Missy was incredibly rude to my family and me, and clearly had no patience or respect for us as both customers and human beings. I love Panera, so this is more about the service at this location. I usually get the green goddess Cobb salad w chicken. I was even excited they had a drive in, since I usually am on the way to work. Picking up that nights dinner, so vary convenient. I should have checked before I left, because it wasn't a Cobb w green goddess dressing. It was just their classic cafe salad w vinaigrette. My mom loves the cheddar broccoli soup, so I often get a pick 2 and get myself a grilled cheese. This is the 4th, yes 4th time I've had the grilled cheese sandwich stick to the bottom of the container, making it impossible to pick up and eat. When I finally got the sandwich off this last time, 1/2 of the sandwich stayed with the container. Most of the time I go to the drive through and this friendly person named Ryan takes my order and is SO nice, even remembering that I need a bag with a handle due to my serious hand arthritis. Once I get to the window, it's a completely different story. About 75% of the time I get the same, VERY RUDE person taking my money and giving me my food. On several occasions I was given my pastries in a little box or bag before my main order would come. I asked her if she can just put them in the my bag that's my food is in. When she hands me the order I see my pastries thrown in the bag. So, she took them out of the box or bag they were in and dumped them into my bag. I thought she was having a bad day but every single time I encounter her she has an attitude, never saying your welcome, thank you or anything kind. She says NOTHING AT ALL. She hands the food to me. I say thank you, have a great day. Her response is to just stare at me and she just rolls her eyes. The newer of our areas Panara breads, this one opened about a year ago (give or take a few months according to my brain) and has quickly taken over as our go to location. For years, Panara Bread has offered fantastic food in our area. Breakfast and Lunch, they were hitting home runs. After awhile though, they changed recipes. My favorite Panara was no more! Service times doubled/tripled, errors skyrocketed, and they fell into the same pool as the rest of the eateries. When this location opened up and I found out that some of the staff (the good part) from Wyomissing transferred here, I was ecstatic. It meant that with the management and proper recruitment, they may be able to bring up customer satisfaction. They have. We've eaten here a few times since opening. I willingly make the trip up over the mountain just to pick food up. The manager is a great guy, very witty and friendly, and most importantly they don't mess orders up. The Wyomissing Panara Bread must be close to an 80% screw up rate, which is unheard of. There's not much else to say then. The food isn't what it was years ago, but is certainly better then a lot of shops in the area. If you wanted some Panara Bread, please consider this location over the Wyomissing location though. There's a far greater chance of disappointment if you head there. read more

I don't think they could get a drive-thru order correct even if their lives depended on it. 4 times using the drive-thru and 4 times it has been messed up. And not just little things like forgetting to give me a straw but giving me completely different items from what I ordered or forgetting an item all together! I even wrote to corporate after the 3rd time and was emailed a $10 gift certificate. I stayed away for 3 or 4 months hoping they could get it together. I decided to use my gift certificate yesterday and went with the drive-thru. I received a greek salad instead of the chicken cobb that I had ordered. I just had to laugh.
