Here's why:…read more - Awful property management: Easily one of the worst I've ever dealt with and a key reason why living here is unenjoyable. They fail to proactively communicate, email response times can take weeks or up to a month, and they've blatantly lied to me about policy changes. - Butterfly MX: This is the system used to manage the front door. It is broken constantly and down for months at a time. You will not know when it's going to be fixed, nor why it's constantly down. This will impact receiving deliveries or your guests. - Dog owners: Pet owners are allowed to simply let their pets urinate (and sometimes defecate) in common areas. The 6th floor elevator bay and dog run has a smell that only prisons in the third wold know. - Trash/Recycling: While you will be shown trash/recycling/compost chutes on your tour, it's all smoke and mirrors. Those chutes are often off and do not allow you to dispose of recycling or compost in it. Heck the building itself doesn't even compost. That means you're forced to go to the basement anytime you want to get rid of waste vs being able to use the chutes that are there for... I have no idea honestly. - Washer & Dryer: Washer and dryers are in-unit, but they are more hassle than help, specifically the dryer. You have to dry clothes generally 2-3 times just to get them to normal dryness, you have to empty a very small water tank, and it will simply turnoff if it senses the clothes are dry even if they're damp or completely wet still. - Kitchen Sink: Another design flaw, but kitchen sinks are very shallow for no apparent reason. This causes quite the splash zone when washing dishes and is just a cheap cost cutting measure. - Theft: You're told that they have a secure bike room, but that happens to not be the case. I along with many other residents had our bikes stolen from the bike room even though there are cameras, they were locked with U-locks and cables, and the door requiring key fob access. Instead of providing any support, management simply sent out an email notifying residents of what took place and offered no support (sharing camera footage, key fob badge records, etc.). Their response: "we're not an investigative agency" Don't let the rooftop pool and clubhouse fool you, there ain't no luxury in sight here. You will be treated like an inconvenience as a resident, and will quickly learn that what you saw on the tour is far from reality of what life is like living here.

From the very beginning, Jessina and Cassandra went above and beyond. I shipped my car to Alameda a week before I arrived, and they allowed it to be delivered and safely parked at Aero. When I needed to pick it up on a day the office was closed, Armando was kind enough to let me in. That level of care truly reflects the people who make Aero so special. Jessina also helped me choose between two apartments by genuinely walking me through the pros and cons without ever making me feel pressured. I chose the studio with the view, and I am so glad I did...it was perfect for me, with an incredible view of the city. But what I will remember most about Aero is the sense of community. The staff know residents by name...and their dogs by name! They don't treat you like a business transaction; they treat you like a neighbor. As a woman living alone, I also felt incredibly safe there, and the secured parking was a huge plus. I only lived at Aero for four months, but somehow, in that short time, my neighbors became genuine friends. I knew their dogs, they knew mine, everyone welcomed my foster dogs, and when it was time for me to move, people came together to help me. That kind of community is rare. My time in Alameda could have been a difficult chapter because I was separated from my family, but Aero gave me a place that truly felt like home. I will always be grateful to Jessina, Cassandra, Armando, and the wonderful neighbors who made my short time there so special. Avoid Aero Apartments - Ongoing Harassment, Noise, and Management Negligence…read more If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I've lived at Aero Apartments for over a year, and it's been nothing but a nightmare of harassment, retaliation, and negligence. The management team, under Equity Residential, has repeatedly failed to enforce community policies and actively disregards tenant concerns -- especially when those concerns involve harassment or discrimination. Here's what you should know before moving in: Chronic Noise Issues I've filed multiple formal complaints about my upstairs neighbor who stomps, slams, and creates constant disruptive noise -- day and night. Despite months of reporting this issue, management has done absolutely nothing. No warnings. No follow-up. No enforcement of quiet hours. My sleep and peace of mind have been destroyed -- and they simply don't care. Retaliation for Complaining After speaking up about the noise and other valid concerns, management retaliated by issuing me a baseless lease violation without evidence -- while allowing the actual violators to continue unbothered. It was clearly an intimidation tactic meant to silence me. I've since filed a formal complaint with the California Civil Rights Department due to their behavior. Privacy Violations There were multiple unauthorized entries into my unit without notice or consent. When I asked for clarification, management gaslit the situation and refused to take any accountability. They ca Lack of Accountability from Corporate I escalated the issue to Equity Residential leadership -- including the CEO -- and received nothing but a dismissive legal response denying all wrongdoing. I was even told to stop contacting them, a clear sign they have no intention of protecting their residents. Poor Communication & Unprofessionalism Trying to get a straight answer or resolution from the leasing office is nearly impossible. They rely on scripted responses and avoidance tactics. They'll claim they've "investigated," but will provide no documentation or updates. It's clear they protect certain tenants and retaliate against the ones who speak up. Harassing After-Hours Messages To make matters worse, management has sent me aggressive and retaliatory text messages after hours and on weekends -- sometimes late at night -- in response to my complaints. This is highly unprofessional and creates a hostile living environment. No tenant should be subjected to communication outside business hours about issues management is failing to address. Amenities You Pay for That Don't Work: Washer broken for the past 18 months Broken sliding door Broken fireplace BBQ grill that hasn't worked in months Front entrance doors were broken for 3 months -- residents were locked out of their own homes Stomping from upstairs neighbors without repercussion "Free" guest parking if you're friends with management -- otherwise, $200/month Bottom line: Aero Apartments is not a safe or peaceful place to live. I've been living in this building for about four to five years now, and if there's one person who…read morehas consistently stood out in that time, it's Chunga, our maintenance technician. With the amount of staff turnover we've had recently, it feels like the sense of community has started to slip away, but Chunga continues to be a constant presence, always stepping up, always showing up, and genuinely caring about the people who live here. Chunga isn't just someone who handles maintenance requests although he does that extremely well and often all on his own he's someone who truly keeps the building running smoothly. It's clear that he's stretched thin, especially when it seems like he's the only one regularly visible and handling work that probably should be shared by a larger team. Still, he takes everything in stride and finds a way to be kind and helpful no matter how busy he is. There was a day when the mail was mistakenly delivered to the wrong place, and instead of leaving it at that, Chunga personally called all of us to let us know our packages were downstairs because a neighbor had brought everything over. That might sound like a small thing, but the fact that he took time out of his already packed schedule to make sure none of us missed our deliveries really says a lot about the kind of person he is. Even when he's not officially working, he still checks in. One evening I was walking through the building and he stopped to ask me if I was okay and how I was doing. That kind of presence and care is something you just don't find everywhere, and it's a big part of why this building still feels like home to me. Honestly, without Chunga here, I don't know if I would still feel the same about living in this community. Over the years we've had some really great staff members. Tyra is still here, and she works incredibly hard to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, although we don't get to interact with her as much because she's in the office managing things. Staff like Molly, Paul, Heidi and Amber always brought warmth and took the time to build real relationships with residents. Amber has moved on to manage larger buildings now, and while I'm happy for her, she's definitely missed here. Diego was another familiar face always helpful, incredibly fashionable, and easy to talk to without ever seeming fake. Mo, who used to be the maintenance supervisor, and Jose were also both hardworking and kind, and they helped create a really welcoming environment. But now, it feels like most of those great people have moved on, and Chunga is the one who's left holding everything together. He's doing so much more than what's in his job description, and it's clear to anyone who lives here that without him, things just wouldn't run as well as they do. I truly hope that the management recognizes just how valuable Chunga is not only as a worker but as someone who brings real heart and community to this building. He deserves a raise, he deserves more support, and he deserves recognition for the amount of work and care he puts in every day. Ray is one of those rare people who goes above and beyond in everything he does. He's not just attentive. He's genuinely invested in making sure every resident feels heard, supported, and valued. Whether it's a concern about building updates, or simply greeting you with a smile and asking how your day is going, Ray always delivers with kindness and professionalism. What I appreciate most is how effortlessly he connects with people. He remembers names, details, and conversations, and you can tell he truly cares. Ray also throws the best events for our building. And I do mean the best. Whether it's holiday parties, themed socials, or casual get togethers, you can count on Ray to plan something fun, welcoming, and thoughtful. He makes sure no one feels left out and always finds a way to bring the community together in a way that feels genuine. What I appreciate most is that if he doesn't have the tool or part he needs, he makes it a priority to track it down so the job gets done the right way. His work ethic and positive attitude don't go unnoticed, and it makes a huge difference in the overall living experience here. As for the amenities. I absolutely love them. In my opinion, we have the best view in all of Oakland. From our rooftop, you can see the entire city skylyne, and it's truly breathtaking, especially at sunset. The rooftop grilling area is another favorite of mine; I use the grills every summer for family cookouts and get togethers with friends. But my ultimate favorite space has to be the sky kitchen. It's my go to spot whenever I'm hosting an event. The setup is perfect, the atmosphere is inviting, and it's just such a beautiful space to create memories in. The neighbors were all friendly and we got to know some of the other families living nearby, and I've on occasion borrowed "a cup of sugar" and traded cookies with the nice people in my section. Maintenance is scheduled to come by once a week, so if you reach out to management things usually get taken care of promptly. I notice that between tenants, empty units would get a fresh coat of paint, new carpet, and new kitchen appliances. For reference, our fridge was brand new and the plastic stickers were still on when we moved in. They seem to really care about keeping the standards well maintained, and we appreciated it! Benefits: Safe with the gate access, well kept courtyards, personal parking allotment, good storage closets, and ideal location next to South Shore and the beach. The people are great, management is prompt, and we got the majority of our security deposit back with reasonable itemization. The price was reasonable with our year long contract and discount. Quirks and Considerations: Our kitchen was quite narrow so it really couldn't fit more than 1-2 people. Quite fine if you're just a couple like us, but can get crowded when hosting or considering kids. The cabinets are high, so we needed a step stool to reach anything above the first shelf. Sometimes there is noise, but it's scheduled and not terrible (EBMUD pumps the pipes weekly in the street out front & there's street sweeping, but I WFH so probably not an issue for others). And the laundry room is shared so we hauled our baskets up and down the stairs, but this is just a reality of apartment-living. Shout out to Andrea Soltero who maintained everything at Wavecrest and made sure our maintenance requests, documentation, and checkout process was smooth!

As for management, Andrea and her team have always been fantastic. Maintenance was thorough and proactive--when we found some water damage, they didn't just patch things up but completely removed the drywall to ensure no mold issues. We also had our bathtub resurfaced promptly when it started peeling. Andrea is responsive and makes sure every issue is handled with care and professionalism. Our apartment itself was wonderful--high ceilings perfect for our tall bookshelves, a ground-floor unit with a backyard, and the freedom to personalize our outdoor space. We installed turf and grew some beautiful flowers in the back yard. I also kept my kayak outside and worked from home at the patio table. The location couldn't be better--just a block from the beach, with all the perks of beachside living without the hassle of parking or traffic. While Alameda has seen an increase in crime, we never felt unsafe at Wavecrest. Inside the complex, I never had issues with package theft or security, and neighbors often looked out for each other, even collecting packages when we were away or holding spare keys. When we moved out, the community came together--one neighbor cooked us breakfast, others helped us pack, provided supplies, and someone even lent us a hand truck to move boxes. Amenities that are part of what we're paying for have frequently been unavailable or under maintenance. Communication around these issues has felt inconsistent, depending on who you speak with. As a resident paying premium rent, that's frustrating. One positive is the residents themselves. Many of us connected and created our own community group to stay informed and support each other and sometimes even party/ host out own potlucks. That wasn't something organized by management, it happened naturally because people here care about where they live and we're very smart here. Together we're strong. No place is perfect. But when a property is marketed and priced at a luxury level, expectations are understandably higher. Consistent upkeep of amenities and clearer communication would make a big difference. There's real potential here. I just hope management aligns the experience with the price point. *Customer service: one of the workers play favorites here, it's ether your with the community or with the workers at Launch.
