When we went to this restaurant a few weeks ago, it had the name Makondo, not Pantojarse. The environment in Makondo was welcoming and warm, with a mural of los cafeteros that immediately lets you know you're in Colombia. There is a take-away area at the front where you can purchase breads, arepas, and other easily portable foods, in addition to the tables and seating area in the back of the restaurant. We opted to dine-in for breakfast and try a variety of plates: calentado, arepa con chicharron, morcilla, and bunuelos. The calentado transported me back to Medellin and, honestly, it kept me full for the entire day. The morchilla, arepas, and chicharrones were cooked to perfection and we were provided with a variety of sauces to add an extra boost of flavor. Absolutely everything was delicious and the prices are incredibly reasonable when compared with the other breakfast restaurants in the area. The service was very friendly and attentive. Most of the clients spoke Spanish, including us, but we did hear them speaking English with a few tables that morning. This restaurant is a little piece of Colombia in White Plains and brings some much needed diversity (and flavor!) to the regular breakfast scene in this city. read more

My Spanish is limited, so I am still trying to get the hang of ordering and getting the correct condiments here. Service is generally pretty good, but English is a second language. On the third visit, I went for the carne asada. This came with yuca frita, arroz and your choice of salad or beans. I went with the former and received a pretty typical diner type mixed salad, leaf lettuce, tomato, a bit of carrot and cucumber. The carne was a generous portion of thin sliced meat - possibly sirloin, maybe flap. Not skirt or flank. It had been pounded thin and cooked medium well. It was served with chimichurri. A request for hot sauce brought the Yucateco and a small portion of a green mojo. Some diners received a trio of sauces: ketchup, what looks like Russian dressing (salsa golf) and a white sauce. I would like to get the sort of garlic sauce that Brazilian restarurants serve with their fried manioc. Still working on that one. Check the earlier review for comment on the bakery items. read more

This place was once called Cafetero Restaurant before it changed to Pantojarse! It's a small yet a spacious place to come and enjoy Colombian cuisine. Once you enter, you're hit with the smell of fresh baked bread; pan de bono to die for! (my favorite). Spanish music is playing in the background while Caracol noticias is on the TV screens. The waitresses are well mannered and are very helpful with the selection of food from their menu; I do have to mention that it beats going to Queens for entraña as this place sells it for $20 and it's delicious! Their other items on the menu are not pricey at all. Overall, the place is well maintain and the staff are always there to help. I do recommend anyone to go here and give it a try. The arepa burger was was so delicious. Came with fries! 10/10 will be back to try more Update: we liked this place so much we came back later in the week to have some more. So here are a few things I have noticed. There is a traditional Colombian Menu and entrees to sit down and eat as well as a full Bakery for all your pastries and empanada needs. There is also the "fast food" menu which carries arepa sandwiches and loaded hotdogs. You can choose your side dish on this menu to be French fries or plantain chips. Be sure to tell the nice staff your preference. The Arepa Burger was a top choice for me. Followed up with the Libre Areapa which allows you to choose three fillers. (Beef chicken, beef, chorizo, cheese etc etc) Still a 10/10 for me! Love the food here read more

Decided to order some of the baked goods to share with a group. Since I wasn't familiar with the different pastries, I asked what was inside them. Unfortunately, my Spanish wasn't good enough and they didn't seem interested in explaining. Ordered a bread filled with cheese, another with guave and corn. Liked the cheese one the most. Think it would have tasted better when they first came out of the oven. Ordered the apple soda, which was a little too sweet for me. Food is good for a typical Colombian comfort food however their menu price isn't same price they will charge you so be warned for that. Server said old menu.... omg. Why not tell customers at the get go? Anyway....still recommending just that be cautious with the price . Front counter pretty girl is so nice so can't really get upset.... lol. I am glad I had lunch at Pantojarse. It is a typical Colombian restaurant with very good food and service. I like Bandeja Paisa but it is a very big dish in most Colombian restaurants, but Pantojarse has a mini version of this dish that won't disappoint. They don't sell any liquor so have your drinks before or after you visit. read more

Very good colombian food, is a small little place but everything i had here was good, parking can be a problem because is on the street. The service was excellent. I had the mini bandeja paisa, the steak is done to perfection, the chicharron is nice and crispy the beans were so delicious and flavorful. My husband had the lomo saltado and he said is one of the best one he has had. The cafe con leche is a must and also the empanadas. We will come here again. read more

At the front is a bakery section, at the back is a seating area for the restaurant. The waitresses are friendly, but knowing Spanish will make the experience even better. I ordered the bandera paiso, which is a delicious plate of fried pork belly, sausage, steak, avocado, over easy egg on white rice, plantain, and a side of beans in gravy.
