So glad to have found Papa Dukes! Located in an industrial area south of Scripps Poway Parkway, this deli is the real thing. Both Nick and Papa Duke are very friendly and helpful with the menu. They have NY style pizza, (they gave us a sample which was delicious - thin, crisp crust), lots of great sandwich options and breakfast as well. We had the Chicago beef sandwich - Glad we got one and shared it with an order of French fries. The peppers were really spicy and oh so good. Next time, I'll ask for a few peppers on the side instead of on the sandwich. The jus was delicious and really added to the intense flavor of the sandwich. A gem of a place for great great great pizza! We thoroughly enjoyed the cheese pizza!! Hands down the best NY style I've had outside of NY/NJ. Beautiful sauce-cheese ratio. The sauce isn't sweet or leave you thirsty. The slice folds easily! And there's a little oily sheen! We also had an order of wings...is the ranch dressing house made? It was delicious and flavorful. We came in here for lunch. We've driven by here many times going to and from Costco. We were looking for an Italian beef sandwich and discovered that they have it here! Lots of peppers, nice crunch to the toasted bread, and it comes with a small cup of au jus. Also got the Nick's Viva Chicken Panini. That was very good too. This review has been long over due... I think I delayed writing this review because I wanted to kept this place a secret haha But.... BEST SANDWICH SHOP IN SCRIPPS RANCH! I typically come here before every Costco run, so once per week. They've got one of the best Philly cheesesteaks in San Diego! I also like to get their breakfast sandwiches Their breakfast sandwiches are nice change when you're wanting something delicious but don't want sit down at a restaurant for a whole meal They are also known for their pizzas. They have a really good reputation in Scripps Ranch for delicious pizza. If you're also wanting to switch up your pizza game, give this place a try. They are currently only open for breakfast and lunch, but potentially may open for dinner at some point. read more

Papa Duke's is a real cut above! Ron the owner is proud of everything that he serves and it really shines through. I've been here four times now and every time has been great. My favorite is the Mama Duke's Veggie Sandwich -- Provolone, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomato, arugula, roasted red peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomato and a drizzle of balsamic glaze all on a baguette. Incredible! My friends who have them both rave about the Papa Duke's Hero, and so am I. There really is something for everyone on the menu -- pizza, hot and cold sandwiches, salads and even desserts. Eat in or take out. Inside, the mood is that of a classic New York-style sandwich shop with lots of fun NY memorabilia to add to the charm. I grew up in NJ and the food here transported me 20 years into the past like I was right back there eating a delicious chicken parm sandwich! Don't sleep on the pizza either, everything about Papa Dukes screams NY/NJ classic Italian food! Went here on a whim, we were driving though the area looking for sandwiches and always try to choose smaller restaurants vs chains. Papa Dukes is a deli mixed in with industrial buildings, so the competition is low which is why I imagine they have such a high review. The food was good. I ordered a hot pastrami and my bf ordered a BLT add chicken. We had our pup with us but the gentleman at the counter said we couldn't bring him inside to order. He is a service animal, so I thought that was strange. When I proceeded to order it was an interesting interaction, but we got what we needed. Wanted a sandwich and remembered Papa Duke's near where I was shopping and decided to stop by go try, and now it's my new fave local sandwich place!! So glad I decided to try it as I have been hunting for a good sandwich place. Owner was super friendly and welcoming even though he was getting ready to close in about an hour. Ordered the Turkey Ranch on rye and added in mustard, red onion and pepperhouse mayo. Came with a pickle spear. I think it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and I love sandwiches. It was made with perfect ratios of all ingredients as you can see from pic. Can get for here or to go as they have tables inside and out. Classic local sandwich shop vibes that I love. I got it to go and got home around 1 hr later and it was so delicious. Very reasonably priced and stuffed. Short and sweet review. For what it is, a hidden business park deli, it's darn good. Every time we come here (which is often), I tell myself I'll try something new. Then inevitably cave and get the same italian beef sub I always get. The spicy peppers are HAAWWTT but so flavorful, it gives the sub some edge. The "jus" comes out piping hot and full of flavor, it could be sold as a soup. And the portions are big, I end up destroying the sub in a sitting and then not eating anything for the remainder of the day. The cashier guy with the mustache is so friendly and humble. You frequently see him cleaning tables, taking in trays, tidying up the place when no one is in line to order. He's got a smile on his face and greets everyone who comes in. The interior screams typical deli. They've got the game on, there are random framed photos, posters, and images scattered around the walls. Be warned though, they can be pricey. One of our favorite little lunch spots in the Poway area! We always love supporting mom and pop businesses and Papa Duke's is no exception. Whenever my co-workers have a hankering for a good hot sandwich, this is our go-to place. They use high quality Boars Head meat in their sandwiches and you can definitely taste the difference compared to spots like, ahem, Subway. No shade intended, lol. But our favorites are the hot sandwiches and burgers. We've yet to try their pizza so that's next on our list. My favorite is their Patty Melt with Cheez Whiz: fresh beef patty, grilled onions and cheese on Rye bread. Perfection. The portions are pretty hefty so I can only finish half in one sitting. We've also tried their Hot Roast Beef with Mushrooms and Provolone...tender beef with au jus to dip your sandwich into...so good. Another favorite is their Pastrami on Rye: tender pastrami served on your choice of bread which never disappoints. The owner I believe is so kind always checks in on his guests to make sure they are enjoying their food. I appreciate that so much, just good ol genuine customer service. This is a hidden gem in Poway near Costco. It's been around for 10 yrs and I have never heard about this place until recently. The owner, Papa Duke is super nice! The buzz is that they have excellent sandwiches and pizza. We ordered the hot roast beef, mushroom and provolone sandwich which came with au jus. And we had to try their pizza too so we got a 12in sausage and mushroom pizza. Although my sandwich was meaty and yummy, I think I enjoyed the pizza even more . There's not many good pizza places around poway so I think that's why I enjoyed the pizza more. And it's thin crust Brooklyn style! The mushrooms in my sandwich and on the pizza were thick chunky pieces. Not like that cheap thinly sliced mushrooms you get elsewhere. The prices were decent and not overpriced. My husband works in Ramona and always goes to Home Depot out here for parts and always sees this deli. This was one opportunity we were able to come try it and glad we did, it was definitely fresh and choices from sandwiches/salads to Pizza, deserts to name a few. I ordered the Chicago beef and my wife ordered the pastrami on rye. Both sandwiches were excellent. The gardenia was spicy hot on the Chicago beef. The star was the pastrami was absolutely delicious.
