My sister and I decided to go out for brunch and found this family owned restaurant off of Poway Road in a little strip mall. It has been in operation in Poway for 53 years and is under new management and has recently had an interior refresh. When we entered the restaurant, we were quickly acknowledged and told we could sit anywhere we wanted. We chose a table for two and were brought drinks immediately. Service was great and our waitress assisted us with placing our order and answering any questions we had. All dishes here are cooked to order . I chose the Poway Omelette with a side of hash browns and sourdough toast. The omelette consisted of cottage cheese, diced tomatoes and avocado. It was a light dish and exactly what I was craving. The hash browns were crispy and cooked perfectly and the sourdough toast was great as well My sister ordered a Mushroom Burger with Swiss Cheese and a side of fries. The burger was amply sized and consisted of mushrooms, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. She ordered the patty medium rare and it too was cooked perfectly. Her fries looked so good, I had to try them myself. We were able to enjoy our meal in a peaceful and quiet atmosphere and didn't have to worry about a loud dining experience. We never felt rushed and we were able to relax and enjoy our food, drinks and conversation. We were there at 11:45 am and could have possibly missed the breakfast crowd All in all, we appreciated this family owned business and I intend to return soon to support them. Love this family style diner right in the heart of Poway. GF and I like to share meals and the portions offered are very good. We have been in for breakfast and lunch and have never been disappointed. The staff is great and the food is very good. Love all of the omelet dishes. We get ours with the O'Brien potatoes and scrambled eggs. We prefer the pancake over toast and it is huge! Surprise! We ordered Machaca, flour tortillas, Huevos Rancheros, corn tortillas. We enjoyed the meals, and will be back again. The Machaca and beans were equally large portions and the large flour tortilla was piping hot! The Huevos rancheros were cooked nicely and served with beans, a perfect breakfast treat! (Corn tortillas were not hot, but still used one to scoop up a few bites). Coffee was good!! The service, Maricela, was excellent, attentive and friendly. It's been years since we went here for breakfast. I wanted hash browns so I ordered chicken fried steak which comes with 2 eggs and hash browns. Hubby ordered the $10.00 senior breakfast. He said the sausage was spicy, pancake, scrambled egg and free coffee was ok. I didn't like the chicken fried steak which was soggy and no flavor, so I only ate half, eggs was ok and hash brown was normal but the hot chocolate was nasty. Too milky and barely taste the chocolate. I told the waitress I would rather have OJ. I almost gag and left it alone. Hubby said he will not come back again. We ordered Eggs Benedict, a stack of pancakes and a Machaca scramble. I ordered my Machaca scramble with crispy hash browns and tortilla. They also offered me some fresh salsa. It was very delicious and I especially enjoyed my crispy hash browns. (Too bad the flour tortilla tasted like the ones you buy from the grocery store.) I am a foodie and a regular patron of restaurants in the Poway area. I tried this restaurant years ago and was so disappointed in the housekeeping, food and service that I had not dined there in years. Recently a friend alerted me to the fact that it was under new ownership and had been remodeled! He had tried the new place and recommended it for a do-over. I have tried the restaurant twice now and really enjoyed the experience. The remodel really made a welcome change to the ambiance of the place but also lends itself to easy cleaning and maintenance. As for food, the menu is quite extensive I have tried an omelet with home fries and a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and french fries. Both choices were good and prices were in line with other places. Service was good and orders came out in a reasonable time. Had an opportunity to meet and chat with Mario the owner and he is very focused on providing a quality restaurant for the breakfast and lunch business in Poway and I would suggest you check it out! Had such a lovely lunch at Cully's with a group of ladies from my TOPS club. We were celebrating the club's anniversray and they just treated us so well!
