My wife has been wanting to try Eat Your Heart Out (EYHO) for a while now. I wasn't into it especially knowing the perfect Turkey sandwich for me is at Con Pane in Point Loma. EYHO is tucked inside a business park of Scripps Poway. A husband-and-wife team has run it for the past 28 years. The husband takes your order and the wife makes the sandwich. Both are very nice, friendly, and accommodating. I got the Baja chicken and my wife got the Godfather sandwiches. Both were solid. Just simple but quality ingredients. Drove by this deli the other day and saw a giant red fire truck parked outside with several firefighters eating lunch! So I decided to check it out. Adorable hole in the wall mom and pop deli with fabulous fresh sandwiches (cold and hot)! They have a very large menu with fresh cut veggies and all the fixings. I ordered a number 1 - turkey and cheese on a croissant with avocado, sprouts, tomato added pickles, pepperoni and pickled jalapeños! You can also add mayo and mustard. Service was friendly, quick! They made lots of suggestions on what to get. Cute basic inside with comfortable seating. Very clean. Highly recommend a stop! It was so delicious and fresh. This is a great place to get a sandwich. Service was fast and super friendly. I ordered the Howard Cosell (I'm thinking a lot of people don't even know who he was) Anyways, it's a ham and turkey. I ordered it on a sub roll with no mayo, cheese, or onions. I also added pickles and pepperocinis which I'm so glad they offered. I ordered it to go even though they do have seating inside and out. For only $9 my sandwich was filled with meat and the veggies. A way better deal than the chain sandwich shops. The best part is...it was delicious and so big that I could only eat half so I have lunch tomorrow! They are located in the Poway business area so I'm sure they get busy for lunch. The ham was the best part of the sandwich, so I bet their other sandwiches rock; the croissant wasn't the freshest but great value for the money. The owners were quite friendly and welcoming; they made me feel like they value all of their customers. They showed me twice where the water was that I could have complimentary... most places don't do that LOL. They mentioned that they have been there for 25 years. That tracked, as it looks a bit dated with the tube tvs and furnishings that were similar to what I had in my house in the 1990's. It was SUPER clean nonetheless. It is stuffed with meat and the bread is so soft. I can't believe how reasonable it is. The owners are working the counter and are just delightful. I was craving a turkey, bacon avocado sandwich, and started searching around on yelp and asking friends where I should go. They led me to eat your heart out on Stowe and I'm glad they did. I walked in and noticed that it was small and there was a help wanted sign on the outside so my expectations were fairly low. I was greeted by the owner, a lady with see-through gloves on and a lunch lady hair cover. She told me I was ready and I asked for a turkey bacon, avocado sandwich. She said a number nine and asked me what type of toast I wanted I went with sourdough. and the rest is history. Her husband operated the cash register, rang me up and asked me if it was my first time at the restaurant I said yes and he said we give rookies to cookies and rang a bell to alert the other customers in the restaurant there was a slight applause and laughter after the banal platitudes and informalities, I was handed my sandwich, and was told to have a great day. When I began to eat the sandwich, I was impressed with the amount of turkey, bacon and avocado that was loaded on three slices of sourdough bread. The bread was slightly toasted and lightly lathered with mayonnaise and mustard sandwich included shredded lettuce, red onions and tomato. It was a 10 out of 10 I will be back for more. read more
