Papa Joe's Cafe is hard to spot, and Google is worthless to locate it... Keep your eyes peeled

Dining here was an a fabulous experience. Needing breakfast ahead of a trip across the border to Nuevo Progreso, Mexico we stopped in at a place we had heard about, but never stopped by. Finally, we got here. And I regret not coming sooner. Simple, delicious inexpensive meals in a cafe-diner style motif that has a Tex-Mex twist with a bit of cross cultural cuisine cookery.... From pancake stacks to huevos rancheros, Papa Joe's shines. Every meal seems to come with refried beans, and they are spot on. The flour tortillas are perfect, as are the corn. Bacon was cooked just right and I have to say the Barbacoa tacos were freaking awesomeness. The funny thing we noticed was all the Hispanic families were ordering American breakfasts while the Gringos were chowing on Mexican breakfasts - which speaks to the beautiful cultural mix in our great State of Texas. Careful finding the joint, Google is worthless to assist you as Google puts it facing the wrong side of the building.... Look for the Little Cesar's next to it for ease of finding. Lastly... Skip ordering the sausage patties. Too dry. But, not a deal breaker and still.... Five Stars for Papa Joe's

    Not my favorite orange juice.

Tiny place nestled between Bealls and Little Caesar's Pizza in a strip mall. We came for breakfast. Food was cooked perfectly and was a good value. Lots of breakfast options. Didn't care for the bottled orange juice, but everything else was ok. Flour tortillas stayed soft, beans were different than most places serve but had a good taste, bacon was nice and crunchy, hash browns weren't greasy. I would eat here again. The place was packed when we left and it is easy to see why.

    Panchos :)

First for the good things: the restaurant itself is super cute and it feels like you're eating inside of an old house, and the salsas that they brought out for our food (the two pictured) were quite good. Now for the not so good things. Service was not the best. Our waitress was friendly but it seemed like she was overwhelmed. She brought us our drinks and the first salsa and said she would come back with chips. She then never came back and began attending to other tables. We had to remind her about the chips. She then brought out the food and I was brought the wrong order. My boyfriend patiently waited for me to get my food so we could eat, but I felt bad because his food was getting cold. The food was not good. Nothing had flavor and almost everything needed salt. The first salsa needed salt, and our food needed salt. My migas tasted like nothing. The beans were good and were not canned beans and, as I stated above, the two salsas she brought out were good, but that was it. The salsas salvaged my food because otherwise it had no flavor. One of our forks was also filthy and had old cheese on it, so we couldn't use it. We weren't the only ones having issues. The table next to us was another couple and the husband was also brought out the incorrect order but his wife was given the correct order. The waitress (same as ours) took forever to bring him his food and his wife said her food was getting cold while waiting for his food. The husband did not want to remind the waitress and we heard him say, "I want to see how long it takes her to remember my food." We decided we would not be back. Not sure what the hype is because we just didn't see it.

I need to upgrade my review for this LongHorn Steakhouse. I noticed I left a 2-star review back in…read more2017 after a disappointing experience. I've returned several times since then and my experiences have been consistently positive. Restaurants tend to have high employee turnover rates, and can have personnel issues from time to time - especially on challenging days when they're getting slammed like on that Mother's Day. So here's my redemption review... This LongHorn Steakhouse is located on the north side of Interstate 2 (Expressway 83) in Weslaco, in front of the JCP and Academy stores and in between Texas Blvd. And N. Bridge Road. The current management has maintained the property well. It is a handsome building with the trademark stonework facade, nicely landscaped, with ample, well lit parking. It is handicapped accessible, and high chairs for toddlers are available. It would be good for small groups as well as family get-togethers, and business lunch or date night. They offer their signature steaks, burgers, salmon, chicken, some comfort food like their excellent mac n cheese, salads, and more. I met some friends here for a late lunch on a Saturday around 4 PM. There was no wait. Our server did an incredible job, was friendly, attentive, and checked back on us several times. She kept our drinks filled and even offered a to-go cup as we were wrapping up. The fresh baked bread and butter was delicious, served along with our drinks while we looked over the menu. I ordered the 8 ounce sirloin, a loaded baked potato, and the crispy Brussels sprouts. I noticed the potato had a lot of salt encrusted on the skin, but since I did not eat the skin, it was not a problem - though it could be an issue for those on low-sodium diets. The Brussels Sprouts were crispy on the outside for the most part... I would have enjoyed them more a bit crisper and with some Balsamic vinager, but they were still pretty good. The steak was cooked as requested and delicious. My friends also enjoyed their orders. There was some background music, but it was at a decent level so it did not hinder our conversation. I really enjoyed this visit and dining experience, recommend this LongHorn Steakhouse, and based on my last three visits am awarding them the full five stars.

Mmmm mmm mmmm, was it TASTY! Our server was very friendly and attentive without hovering, despite it not being too busy. We all ordered burgers which were MASSIVE (1/2 lb maybe?) and cooked over a char-broiler evidently, as they had that "flame broiled taste". I added cheese to mine while a fellow golfer added grilled onions to his. I believe they all came with lettuce, onion, tomato and dill pickle slices. Condiments were served on the side. The fries seemed to be made "in house" as they were not the typical frozen French fry but were tasty. I noted they also had a breakfast menu for those living nearby or starting their round earlier in the morning. I'd definitely stop in if we lived closer, but as it's a 25 mile trip... I'll settle for a meal after a round of golf.

I guess I'll drink water with my meal from now on. That's just bad business. People can tell a difference!
