Mexican Entrees

We found this AMAZING restaurant from other Google reviews while on a visit to the Rio Grande Valley. We went hoping to find Butter Chicken that compared to some that we had eaten in Austin. How surprised & happy that CAFE NASHTA offered us what we were looking for & SO MUCH MORE!! As you can see by their menu this couple is catering to the culture along with introducing the culture to their Indian cuisine. YOU REALLY NEED TO VISIT THEM YOURSELF & you will be singing their praises with the rest of us!! We had their lunch special which is very reasonably priced along with the garlic Naan. Our favorite was the Butter Chicken with the Garlic Naan. It's a flavor that you crave & want to go back again & again!!

Chips

The food was beyond my expectations, the service was great! I don't know if he's the owner or manager but he made my first time there so amazing by being such a people person, he offered me a 2nd bowl to try the spicier version, and then gave me dessert! The ambiance is such a vibe, I went @8pm and the little table lamps just make it seem fancier. I definitely recommend the place. I ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and the garlic naan. The chips and the sauces were complimentary.

Visited Monterrey Cafe for lunch. Restaurant has a nice traditional look and feel. Ordered the…read moreTampiquena plate. I requested beef fajitas, two cheddar cheese enchiladas, a crispy corn taco with ground beef filling. The plate included rice and beans, guacamole and a choice of tortillas. I asked for flour. When my plate arrived the food looked hot, tasty and freshly made. After giving everything on my plate a try, here is my subjective assessment of the meal. Again, this was my only visit so I didn't try anything else. Service: 5 out 5, servers were friendly, helpful and attentive. You can tell they take pride in their jobs. They all wore matching black T-shirts. They refilled my drink and stopped by to ask if I needed anything else. Atmosphere: 5 out 5, not fancy but who cares. It was clean, comfortable and inviting. It feels like it's been there since 1972. Food: 3 out 5, although the items on my plate looked fresh and tasty, I felt only two items really stood out. The crispy taco was the best item on my plate. It was crunchy and delicious. The flour tortillas were freshly made and delicious. However, the beef fajitas were bland and chewy. The cheese enchiladas seriously lacked flavor. The cheese filling and enchilada sauce could and should have been better. The rice and refied beans were flavorless. Overall, the flavors were muted and I would say needed more seasoning. I wanted to give it a higher rating. I may try going again in the future but I'll order something different. They serve breakfast too.

Great service and friendly staff. This place has everything and it's good. I especially like the…read morefried chicken.

After a round of golf at Tierra Santa, what better to do than enjoy a nice beverage and some food?…read more Why... go to Tony's Bar and Grill! I chose to partake of a delicious Bloody Mary. Mmmm mmm mmmm, was it TASTY! Our server was very friendly and attentive without hovering, despite it not being too busy. We all ordered burgers which were MASSIVE (1/2 lb maybe?) and cooked over a char-broiler evidently, as they had that "flame broiled taste". I added cheese to mine while a fellow golfer added grilled onions to his. I believe they all came with lettuce, onion, tomato and dill pickle slices. Condiments were served on the side. The fries seemed to be made "in house" as they were not the typical frozen French fry but were tasty. I noted they also had a breakfast menu for those living nearby or starting their round earlier in the morning. I'd definitely stop in if we lived closer, but as it's a 25 mile trip... I'll settle for a meal after a round of golf.

I specifically ordered Tanqueray Gin and Tonics, and consistently they were made with a cheaper gin. My husband ordered one of my drinks at the bar and he watched the bartender pour the gin from a Tanqueray bottle. This only tells me that they are pouring a cheaper gin in the Tanqueray bottle! I guess I'll drink water with my meal from now on. That's just bad business. People can tell a difference!

Mom suggested we come to Los Comales and try it for breakfast There was only 1 waitress running around, and looked pretty busy but she still took care of us. She quickly took our order and brought mom a coffee and brought me a huge glass of ice tea because when in Texas that's what you gotta have, sweet ice tea! She also brought us a salsa and toasted flour tortilla chips. Salsa needed a little extra kick so I asked for an order of grilled jalapeños (Chiles toreados). I gotta say, this place is pretty straight forward. A daily special runs for under 6 bucks and it includes coffee. We didn't see what was written on special board because we already had our hearts set on machaca and egg flour tortilla tacos. Machaca is dried shredded beef that's cooked along with the egg. The three taco special with refried beans is 5.89 ish.. under 6 and you can order different kind. I had 2 machaca with egg and 1 potato, chorizo with egg. I also ordered an extra flour tortilla to try my beans. Oh what an awesome surprise, the refried beans tasted like they've been cooked with bacon grease! Nom nom; totally reminded me of home. Everything was so delicious. I'll be definitely be back for lunch, I hear they have some pretty mean mole enchiladas. My bill for the 2 of us was 17.24. That's pretty inexpensive for a home made cooked breakfast. I was very happy with my food and the service. If you're ever down this way, try the taco specials.
