Stopped off of highway 84 for some lunch and we really enjoyed the soup of the day. We each had a bowl of their homemade stuffed pepper soup with a beverage and it was the perfect lunch! Northeastern Connecticut... not exactly a bastion of quality pizza makers. But make no mistake, Papa T, located right off of 84, makes a mean slice, on par with anything you'd get in New York metro. It's definitely a New York style slice - relatively thin but not paper thin, plenty of cheese and sauce, no burnt parts (not that there's anything wrong with burnt parts, file that under New Haven Style). It's a good pie, reminds me of the pies of my childhood in the North Bronx. The restaurant itself is old and run down, so I wouldn't take a wedding reception here. But I usually go here for takeout anyway. And you should too, because as far as I'm concerned, the closer you get to Boston, the greater the pizza dangers are. read more

The server was super sweet, and I love all the booths available, but they only serve breakfast until like 11. I ordered the grilled salmon salad and side of onion rings. The salmon was steaming hot with a nice crust. The salad had the basics, like cucumber, black olives, tomato, onion. They have a wide variety of dressing available. I got the balsamic and it was delicious. The onion rings were a little greasy but nice and crispy and a good serving size. The salad came with garlic bread, which was yummy and kept my attention until my salad arrived to the table. I also had one of the extra large rice crispy treats displayed on the counter. My boyfriend and I went out with a mission--to find something that wasn't american/italian. the problem was, we went out at 9:30 on a Thursday. So we wound up at the only place we found that was open--Papa T's. Whoops. We enjoyed our meal, though. And the waitress was very nice and friendly and extremely helpful (she was a vegetarian like me, so she was able to point things out that I wouldn't have thought to ask--such as, they use meat sauce unless asked not to). I got the eggplant sandwich and my boyfriend got a fish sandwich. Both our meals were good. I want to go back soon to try the portabella sandwich. :) Their placemats have a word find on them. For a road-side family-style diner, this place ROCKS! The food is all really solid, we stopped for Sunday dinner off I-84, and went with the all-you-can eat pasta, garlic bread and salad. Everything was very good -- garlic bread was amazing, the bread was light and flakey and crunchy. I imagine their grinders are served on this amazing bread. What sets this place aside from other diners is 1) the staff was really cheerful and attentive without being too chatty or overbearing. 2) the place is clean -- you could eat off the floors of the bathrooms, if that's your thing 3) attention to detail. I know it's minor, but every table had fresh flowers -- just a little pink carnation, but it's nice. It tells me they care. I do the drive from Nashua to NJ quite frequently, and I'll definitely be stopping at Papa T's again! read more

You have to love diners. They are old fashioned with real ingredients and seem to really care about the customer I was starving on my way to The Hudson Valley and was lured by the decent Yelp reviews. I ordered the marinated chicken sandwich and my companion had the BLT The food was decent, but a tad pricey....The service, however, was excellent. The waitress could not have been more kind and accommodating..not just to us, but to everyone on the phone and the takeout. This review is based only on their pizza! We have been stopping on our way from MA to NJ the last three or four times. The girls are always friendly and the guys making the pizza always say hello as well. It's an easy off easy on the highway stop. The only thing I'd say is I don't like how they only seem to have cheese slices. If u ask for pepperoni it's just laid on top and falls off when u try and eat it. Don't let that be the reason not to try tho order a whole pie and you won't be disappointed. The pizza is sooooo good!! read more

Although they know how to cook, and the food could be really good, giant giant grinders.. pizza.. pasta.. I have stopped going here because of the cleanliness and freshness. I got a plate of brown soggy salad last trip, the ice water tasted like dirt, and there was a clear lack of concern for the quality of the food coming out. I also noticed some other things in the way of kitchen cleanliness that made me not want to ever eat here again. It's too bad it's gone downhill only in that department. One of my favorite Pizza/Italian places to eat at in Connecticut. They have great grinders and da best pizza. My man loves the breakfast and their french onion soup. My fav. item on the menu that I crave is there mild boneless buffalo wings. I've never had anything like it- its sweet and tangy but not as sweet as bbq sauce. Try if for yourself. Comes with the best chunky blue cheese dressing. Also, you can be ammused occasionaly with strippers that come up for some grub from the strip club down in back of the restaurant. This place is BANANAS! The food is so good you WILL NOT be disappointed. If you're on the go, call 5 minutes ahead for a couple slices of cheese! Three waitresses serve ten tables. They are always moving, but not doing their jobs. The kitchen is slow, loud, and disorganized. Almost ten minute wait for just drinks. Additional twenty minute wait for two slices of pizza, and they still didn't come out. Finally left without eating. Literally would've been faster to pick a pizza from Rocky Hill. read more

Lived in Tolland a couple years now but on the Willington side, over on Buff Cap / exit 69 so we usually stay "local" for takeout. Willington Pizza/Too which is great and Hill Top. But we decided to try Papa Ts tonight and they were great! Extremely fast friendly service, fair prices, and the food was as good as the previous commenters had said. 100% will return! read more

Went to Papa T's with my husband, our daughter, his son, daughter in law, and granddaughter. We ordered a grilled chicken and broccoli pizza, a fish platter, nuggets and fries, and a cheeseburger grinder. The pizza was just ok. My fish, nuggets, and tater tots were just from frozen like what's in my own freezer. The cheeseburger was 1/2 bloody and 1/2 medium well. The prices are outrageous for what you're served. Over $70.00! The waitress, whose name I sadly didn't get, was great. That's the only positive thing I can say. read more

There's always great specials to try too! But our favorite is the pizza!!!! It's 100% the best pizza anywhere. Whether you get a pie or just a slice it's always delicious. Papa T's is basically Tolland's local "greasy spoon." You can go in, sit at the counter, get a cup of coffee and a slice of pizza or a sandwich, and -- if you're a local -- probably run into a half-dozen people you know. The only reason it doesn't fall completely into the 'local hangout' category is its proximity to Interstate 84 (it's about a hundred yards from the highway). The food is mostly standard Italian-American homestyle diner fare: pizza, spaghetti, grinders, etc. The pizza is sort of a medium-thickness tossed-crust pie, different from the typical "New England" style pan. The slices are big -- I think they cut into 1/6ths -- and fair warning: it's pretty greasy. (Good food for a Sunday morning if you happen to put down too many on Saturday night.) If you're driving through on 84 and are looking for a place to stop that's not fast food but will still let you get on and off in a hurry, Papa T's is worth a try. read more

Friendly service. Food is okay. If you're coming here for pizza, expect the same pizza you get from every other "pizza place down the street". If you end up getting pizza by the slice they just reheat some cheese pizza and put some toppings on it... This is one of the first places we tried after moving into the area in June. I didn't expect to like it, at all. Boy, was I wrong. The service is great, it's clean, the food we've had was solid and the prices are great. We tried the philly steak grinder -- couldn't believe how huge it was, and delicious. Pizza was also great -- with excellent crust. On another visit I tried the French Onion soup and was very pleasantly surprised by it as well as the grilled ham and cheese which was actually my favorite ever next to my own at home. I ended up tipping more than I normally would simply because the prices were so great. Great place for my picky kids! Being a Tolland native, I have a lot of memories with this place. My dad has been close with the owner Pat since before I was born and I went to high school with her son. We would come here for breakfast since I can remember and I still love it. It's my favorite place for breakfast. The home fries are great and everything is super reasonably priced still. Servers and staff are so friendly and down to earth and it's overall great. I love their pizza and pasta dishes. Such a homey place. I'll always dine here at least once when I visit home. read more

This used to be a great place to have breakfast or an informal Italian meal. I am not sure when it changed ownership (it has been a while since I ate here) but it is not the same Papa T's that I frequently dined at couple of years back! I had Sausage Parmesan and my wife had Lasagna. The salads came with lettuce that was brown on the edges. I asked that my shells be served on a separate dish explaining that I was allergic to gluten and planned to take the pasta home for my wife. I first asked for new salads and was told that that was all they had. We did not eat the salads. When our dinners came my sausage was on the same plate as the shells. When I asked for the sausage parmesan to be replaced she said (again) that was all they had and she would take the shells off the plate. I let her do it, but when it came back there were still several shells mixed in with the sausage! I could not eat it. My wife's lasagna was cold in middle and tasted like it had been in the freezer for quite a while. The waitress then came to the table and asked if we wanted to take the food home. I told her (again) why we did not want the food and all she said was "sorry" and then brought the check. I paid it, left zero tip, and told her why as we left. I also asked if the owner was there. She said that she was busy paying bills and did not want to be disturbed!! She then told us sarcastically to have a great day. Needless to say we will not return. Disappointed, live in town and keep giving them a chance to get better, like they used to be. Pizza used to be better, some visits are better than other visits. Same with service, some times you get good service sometimes you don't. I will give it another chance... We'll gave it another chance, and yes disappointed again... We called in an order and it was really messed up.... Grinders, hmmmm seems pretty simple... Now I am done.. Don't go there unless you check your food first before you leave... We've been regular customers for about two years now, and something happened to the unbelievable pizza that they used to make. We can't put our finger on it: is it the cheese, the crust, or the sauce? Something with the ingredients has changed. We used to brag about Papa T's pizza to everyone; recommend it to our friends and neighbors etc.. but the last 4 or 5 times we've gotten pizza (whether it's pepperoni, Hawaiian, eggplant/feta, or one of our other favorites) it just hasn't been the same at all. This is not only a review for prospective customers, but also feedback for the owners, as there is no email to send any feedback to on their website. Either way we hope they are getting the same feedback from others, as we were so psyched to have such a great neighborhood pizza restaurant right in our town.
