Good soup, decent pizza, they cut corners There's a host of pizza places I have yet to try, and this is one of them. Came in on a dreary Sunday sand gave them a shot. Server was nice, was professional and honest with all my questions. I ordered the small house special and their soup of the day - a chicken noodle made from scratch. Food came after a short delay. Took pics and dug in. The soup was good, the broth was seasoned and had lots of chicken. The chicken was very overcooked, it was very clear that the soup was made that morning and was super heated the entire day. Veggies were pure mush and the noodles were oddly al dente Pizza was next, and the best part was the sausage. Not Italian, but meaty, fresh, and plentiful. The crust was crisp on the bottom but soft on the inside. Fully cooked and akin to a Chicago style pizza crispness when fresh out the oven. The sauce is a lightly seasoned hunts tomato puree, and the cheese was very light and had no flavor. Meaning the pizza had to rely on the toppings for flavor, and the toppings had little to offer beyond texture. I transported the pizza back home after eating a few slices. As soon as the pizza had a chance to cool the crust became very soft. A shame, cause I really liked the crisp. Guessing the pizza steamed a little bit in the box. They know how to make good food, but they do cut corners with their prep and it translates into their final product. It's like your standard family pizza restaurant, it's okay but nothing special. read more

I tried their vegetarian pizza for the first time last weekend. Wow! The crust was just the way I like it and there were lots of vegetables on it with the perfect amount of cheese! My experiences have been quite favorable. Friendly waitstaff, delicious pizza with generous toppings. Salads have been above average by my standards. We love eating here and portions are abundant, yes, it is fast casual which makes it worth eating here also because everything seems to be made fresh and pasta dishes are extremely traditional Italian. I'm a pescatarian but eat most like a vegetarian. I was told 5 years ago by one of my staff members that they had the best eggplant pizza around . It was true. I've been going every since. I always ask them not to cut it because I'm allergic to pork and I don't eat meat and don't want the knife that cut all of the meat touching my pizza. I could get really sick. A couple times they cut ( when I had someone else pick it up) I had to give the pizza away. If I pick it up myself I always check to make sure it's cut. I've never tried anything else and I've always ordered to go. If you like eggplant pizza their slices are very thin and delicious. I order onions on mine. Sometimes they forget to put them on and throw them on top. I can usually tell because they are more raw. $24.00? Really? This is what a small pizza costs now? No wonder why prices aren't posted on Vernon Pizza's online menus. Today it happened again. A phone order was placed for a small pizza and when my husband arrived, not only wasn't it ready, but it had to be remade because it wasn't what we ordered. (Yeah, they "gave" us the incorrect pizza, but it wasn't something we ate, and I'm sure we paid for it.) This situation happened another time, except when my husband arrived he was told "a few more minutes" and made to pay. Guess what? They never made the pizza! And initially, they wouldn't refund his money, since he didn't want to wait another half hour! And obviously it's not just pizzas, it happened when we ordered a whole grinder too and when my husband arrived it was only a half grinder. Again my husband had to wait, and he was told they would make a whole new grinder. But they didn't, it was two halves, one old, one fresh. And although we live only 10 minutes away, the grinders weren't hot and were "mushy." So, enough all ready for this place and their horrible service...YOU'RE FIRED!!! read more

This is solely based on PIZZA: Vernon pizza makes a pretty good pie. There are certainly better ones elsewhere, particularly if you like thin crust, but all in all I like Vernon Pizza. They're BBQ chicken is pretty damn good, as is the house special. The last time I had a red pizza, however, it just wasn't red enough. It's not thin crust, so if you want that, look elsewhere. Otherwise, give it a shot if you're in the area. I've eaten here a few times, though I must admit that neither the pricing nor the pizza is anything to rave about, and they'd be much less likely to get my business if I lived further away. read more

Friendly. Clean. Comfortable booths. Games on a bunch of TV's without volume. Had a large cheese pizza (they are large), a small green pepper pizza, and a large garden salad without olives. Order came out quickly and was 100% correct. Good value too. This was our first time - usually we hit the Vernon Diner. I love this place. The staff are always friendly and they abide by covid protocol. Everybody wears a mask and practices social distancing even queuing up for orders. Their pizzas remain consistent and I've lived here for 4 years down the road so I know they've been consistently good!! Love this place. The menu changed and they remove my favorite clams with spaghetti and the cheeseburger grinder was lacking the meat and size they used to provide. My all-time favorite any pasta salad was lacking the meat rolls they used to provide as well. I moved to Tolland county several years ago when I met my husband and eventually gave up looking for good local pizza. Not that the stuff there was inedible I just came from a restaurant Mecca. I was craving Greek style pizza and the hubs suggested Vernon pizza. I was skeptical but ordered pickup. On his way home I told him stop for powerball tix so it was a decent chunk of time the food sat and I was still so pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was. I'd have liked a little firmer dough but that's more preference. Sauce was good, not overly sweet like some Greek pizzas tend to have. We got half cheese half crispy chicken, roasted peppers and cherry peppers. Very impressed with the cutlet. And I say this as an Italian mom who has made them forever. It tasted like a fresh cutlet, not a frozen tender like most places. We also got an app sampler and it had a huge variety and all of it was delicious. This used to be my favorite restaurant ever, until the original owners son took over, it has since gone down hill,immensely. Am traveling the country now and compare all the pizza to how I remember this place just three years ago. It used to be succulent, juicy, mouth watering, and can keep going on and on. I came here at least three times a week, and always on Friday night. Was here on a recent visit back to the state and was severely disappointed. The pizzas, and grinder, I had paled in comparison to what it used to be. Devoid of sauce, almost tasteless, with only little hints of flavor... The one saving grace is some of the wonderful waitresses still worked there. Not all of them and there were quite a few new faces. Enough to warrant an extra star! This place is no longer my gold standard of pizza. Still OK but far far from its glory. Would almost say Totino's frozen pizza is better! read more

This review is based solely on the quality of a tuna melt I ordered this evening. The French fries were wonderful, the tuna melt not so much. It was gloppy and had an off putting taste that is hard to describe. Strong smell of onion either in the bread or tuna, but I would rather have a subway tuna sandwich instead. Picked up a pizza from here. It was a large with extra cheese, pepperoni, meatball and ricotta. Very expensive. They charge $2 per topping and $2.50 if you want extra cheese, on top of the 12.75 for a large pizza in general. At this price I was expecting a great pizza but that was not the case. I couldn't even find the ricotta that we had paid $2 for. I think they might of smeared a tiny bit underneath the mozz which is NOT how you put ricotta on a pizza by the way. The pizza was greasy and not very tasty. We threw away the leftovers because it was not worth saving. read more

While in the middle of being in a pandemic it's nice to try and get some food to get that sense of normalcy, however I will no longer be ordering from this place, the food has been suffering a lot, every time I order a grinder, salad, or anything that has their fried chicken or burgers they are always completely hammered, overly burnt and really dry. Tried ordering soup and it's as if I'm eating a deer salt lick. Clearly the workers in the kitchen don't care what they put out for "food" and clearly the owner has stopped caring as well. The place isn't as clean as it should be, the interior is dated and the dining area looks half-assed. This review is NOT for the pizza. I remember this place having great salads years ago... Confused by the salad I just had. It was a grilled buffalo chicken take out order and I poured what seemed like a cup of water out of it. They forgot to drain the washed lettuce and threw it into the take out container?? So much water that I'm not even sure what happened. Everything was soggy and gross but underneath all the wetness, it seemed like the salad could have been decent. I considered bringing it back with all the water but the thought actually crossed my mind that they might think I poured all the water in the salad myself (to get a free salad?) because it was that ridiculous. read more

Went with my family after rollerskating at Ron a Roll. We were hungry and needed somewhere yummy. We came across this little GEM. Respectful and excellent service we think the owner served us. We live really close to this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We ordered their moz cheese sticks and they came out watery. Every bite we took, gush of frozen water would come out along with the cheese and it was not too tastey. we also ordered white clam sauce pasta and the clams were very sandy and the pasta was tasteless. I tried to add some salt, black and redpepper and it still tasted very watery like as if they just sautéed boiled pasta and poured the canned clam sauce. I had to take the entire pasta home and we cook it with more garlic and oil. So basically we paid a whole lot for boiled pasta to take home... Probably wont be returning read more
