This doesn't look like much from the outside and the inside but the pizza is pretty dang good. It's a staple whenever we're in town. My fiancé has been getting pizza here since he was a child and I can see why. So, if you like a more doughy pizza this is for you, I personally prefer a more thin crust. Overall it's always been good, the sauce is flavorful and the crust has good texture with the right amount of chewiness to it. Lastly my friends if your lactose intolerant like myself brace yourself lol. The cheese is definitely freshly grated in store and not like those other pizza joint where they use pre shredded cheese in a bag. The pizza components here represent everything a proper thick crust CT pizza should be. The dough is airy but still offers a proper bite. The sauce is not overly sweet. Toppings and cheese are always just right. The grinders are generously sized and filled at a reasonable price. I've never been disappointed by any of them. Locals know that this is a takeout place, people don't really sit in the dining room. I suggest sticking to takeout for your visit. Nobody does eggplant like ADs. If you want New Haven style, or thin crust, or Sicilian, or Chicago deep dish, or Greek - this isn't going to be at the top of your list. This is sort of unique. This restaurant is a little bit away from anything, at least on the Saturday evening we turned up there, the area seemed dead. At least that Saturday it seemed like they weren't really prepared for dine in customers: the restaurant was barely lit, just the bar where the chef or owner and another guy belonging to the restaurant crew were hanging out had the lights on. But as we walked in, they turned on the lights. Which made the place not so much nicer as the interior is quite dated and the whole place found need a makeover. We were the only guests there then, but as we were there we ordered a pizza and some waters as drinks. They have a full selection of sodas, beers and hard liquor too. While we were waiting on our pizza, we could frequently see people coming in to pick up food. And the phone was frequently ringing too, I guess from customers calling in to order for pick-up. So I guess this place has mostly take-away business and less dine in. However as we were enjoying our pizza three more guys came in and ordered pizza and beer to eat in. Okay, enough about the place and it's mediocre state. Let's talk about their pizza. I simply have to say that their pizza is great. It's been the best I've had in a while. American style with thicker crust and dough, good amount of toppings (got spinach, tomato, olives, pepperoni). Great taste and good crust - a pizza you can pick up a slice and it won't bend because of being soggy, but dough also not burnt or dry - just everything right! And the 16" pizza we ordered was enough for the two of us and the leftovers we asked to box up served us as lunch the next day. All this for $24 including tip, which I considered a fair deal. Would I go there again when in the area? Definitely yes, not for the place, but for the pizza! read more

Came here by accident in 2009 and now purposely stop any time I'm in the area. The pizza is NOT traditional Italian, nor is it anything like New Haven pizza. This pizza is in it's own realm and it is delicious. They go above and beyond with toppings, but the dough is thick and can handle the weight... which is something you WILL notice when you pick up this pizza. Came here for a steelers game on sunday. Service was SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW. Sat down before the opening kick-off, didn't get a beer until the 2nd quarter. Asked for a menu, it arrived at half-time. Ordered at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and got my food in the 4th. Genoa grinder was really good, basket of fries was standard. $8 for the grinder & fries was a steal, $3.75 for the 12oz bud light draft was rape. On the fence about this place, the steeler games will probably keep me coming back, but i sure wont order much. read more

I was just reminding a friend about the great Carbonara we had here so I thought I better give them a review. We were staying at the super bad hotel nearby and everyone kept ordering equally bad delivery food (no chain restaurants near enough to walk to) and with no car to drive...by day 2 of the conference I was starving. A friend brought in pizza from AD's that night and it was SOOO good. I asked where they got it and they said just outside the parking lot across the street! So the next day my conference roommate and I went over there (braved the ice and snow) and I just about died when the Carbonara came to the table. It was a huge family style portion for only about $7.00. It was creamy and cheesy and the fettuccine noodles were al dente (definitely NOT low calorie). I was able to take half of it back to the hotel for dinner that night. Would easily feed two or three adults. We ended up going back for lunch the next day and I had to order it again and share with my friend because she was jealous from the day before. They also had an interesting side salad that I liked that had pickled peppers in it. Like I said, the pizza we had was loaded, I don't know if the other traveler hit them on a bad day or what happened. The place is in need of some remodeling and a real sign. We had a hard time finding it even though it was across the street. It looks like a community center from the outside. Everyone was nice that served us and we were out with friends so I don't remember if the service was slow or not....you should probably plan on allowing enough time for them to make the food. It's a family business. I think, especially if you have kids, it would be a great place for a family style dinner like Buca di Beppos is SUPPOSED to be. We found ADs about a year ago and were VERY happy with their pizza. The crust wasn't too thick or thin, the cheese was great-thick but not rubbery, the sauce wasn't super sweet -like most every other pizza we've had around here. The last two times we've gone the crust is so hard on the bottom and doughy on top. Not sure why such a difference, but it was a bit disappointing. We will go again and hope for the pizza that we had gotten used to prior. The employees have always been pleasant. The crust was burnt, the broccoli was all stems, the sauce tasted like spaghettios, and it was an altogether terrible pizza. The calzone had burst and was about 70 percent dough. What a pleasant find and experience when the rest of our night was going so horribly. On October 14th my sister, nephew, and I were in town for one night on our way back to Hawaii early the next morning. We were staying near by and needed a meal before getting to bed for an early morning flight. We walked in not expecting much as it was dark out and it looked more like just a bar from a distance. Boy were we wrong! Being from Hawaii we generally don't get the quality of pizza that you find on the east coast. I understand that and appreciate pizza on the east coast. This may have been the best pizza I have had in my life! In addition to that the gentleman serving us was friendly and made us feel very welcome in there. The prices were great too. I only wish that we weren't so far away. I definitely want to return to eat and have a few drinks there some day. Thinking of trying something different for lunch we decided upon AD's pizzeria. I drive past this place daily on my way to work and it's always been a complete mystery. Is it AD's pizza or the Pittsburgh Steeler Fanclub? Because the sign promoting both is strangely far away from the building. Well, we ordered a large combination pizza for pickup. As we are pulling in to what I assume was AD's pizza, because there are no signs at all on the building other than a generic sign in the window saying "restaurant" I was like damn this place is creepy. The place looks abandoned without a car or living soul anywhere. We enter and the place is quiet, dark, and even more creepy. Like being the first person at a wake before any other mourner gets there. I then see a bunch of Pittsburgh Steeler junk in a glass case and realized I found the Fanclub. Yippee! However, this fan club was different than most being there was not a single fan in attendance. We were the only "fans" there, and I'm a Patriots fan. Anyway, we get the pizza, which was right on time for our arrival, pay and leave. The parking lot is a complete sheet of ice, and we pull a quick not on purpose 180 before leaving. Because RWD. The verdict. The pizza was junk. Extremely greasy and sloppy. Too much sauce and not enough cheese made everything just fall right off when you picked up a slice. The crust was dry and slightly burnt and had a weird burnt taste throughout. I'd bet you $5 the sauce was canned. Disappointing. Could be one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. read more

I was hosting a birthday party for my husband who turned 55 on Christmas eve. Ordered a catering service from A&D. This was my first time ordering catering from them and I had no idea how large or small their portions were and I was expecting about 18 people. Chris, the owner recommend small ones, but when I came to pick them up they were large enough to feed a battalion. Everything was prepared perfectly to everyone's taste and done on time!!! My guests left satisfied and with plenty giveaway leftovers. We also had so much left for us, thanks to my second fridge in the basement I was able to store everything. The best pizza in windsor locks was papparoni on main st which closed. I have had ad's pizza and would not give it 4 stars. The dough is too thick and too heavy. We really need a good pizzeria. Order some items to go - looked in the bags when I got home - the order was wrong, which I can understand. However, I called to let them know and immediately got a ear full. The young lady told me I was wrong and there was a young man in the background also saying something. I never asked for anything, however after their response I just said "I would not come back." I received a "fine" and dial tone. If you go there look at the cleanliness, the ceiling, seems very dirty. The place is dead most nights, should have been a sign to me. Checked this place out and tried their pizza. Family owned establishment 3rd generation. Can appreciate the original sauce and dough recipes. Nice thick crust and plenty of sauce with a sweet and tangy kick that adds a robust flavor. Top of the cheese pie a bit greasy for my taste, but the sauce and cheese blend well.
