Had a wonderful time here for lunch! They had a live mariachi band, which is so cool. I've never seen that before! Their salsa bar was full of options wish they had larger receptacles than just the tiny sauce cups. Food came out incredibly. Downtown Simpsonville has another Papas and Beer about 5 min down the road but this location has a better set up that is more "up to date" and the servers are 10/10. We've been going here for years and while it's still a good location. The food quality has gone down in recent years. I love the salsa bar options, they are always fresh and options for every taste. Beer is great, I got the medium which was a huge size! Here are a few issues we had however. The kids meal chicken tenders is a flattened chicken breast that's just cut up. The chicken is so thin it's not worth eating. I chose the combination of enchilada, tamale, and taco. The beef in the taco was seasoned really well but the overwhelming amount of lettuce was overkill. No cheese was added which it was suppose to come with. The tamale was one of the worst I've had in the area and sadly the enchilada wasn't much better. Food for the cost was just not worth it and given there are so many Mexican restaurants in the area we will likely not be back. There are too many other places that offer better food to keep coming back here. read more

I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco and have frijoles, tequila and salsa picante pumping through my veins. To say I was disappointed with the experience and food is keeping it PC. Never have I had "pescado a la diaba" served as a soup. My wife's taco salad was legit mush. The waiter spilled hot juice from my fish onto my mother in laws lap and arm and didn't even apologize. Terrible service, awful orange juice margaritas with no tequila. AND SKINNY MARGS are just lime juice. I ordered a spicy skinny margarita. Before I ordered it I asked if the make them, she said yes of course. and when I received my drink- it was lime juice and salt. The waitress took the drink back and they added fresh jalapeño and put all the salt at the bottom of the drink- again it was all lime juice- if there was tequila in the drink it was masked by way too much lime juice! The one in Mauldin does it correctly!!! They need to teach them all the correct way because this was AWFUL and undrinkable. Wait staff tried to tell me that I ordered enchiladas when I did not, and then had a major attitude when she said this is not what I ordered. She said well that's what I heard you ordered. It was a totally different meal, and I ordered straight off the menu by name, no extras or changes to the order- just what was listed. The papa's and beer down the street has a much better bartender, note to self- go to the one in Mauldin- staff is nicer with a better bartender. They appreciate their customers. It's not fun to go to dinner- and feel like I'm bothering the wait staff to get things from the kitchen that I can not get myself. I will say when the correct food came- it was great! But I shouldn't have to feel bad for asking the server for things like chips and bean dip. Btw the music from the kitchen was so loud I could barely hear the conversations at our table. read more

Had lunch here yesterday. At first glance the place can be described in one word - DIRTY. First we had to find a table that wasn't wobbly or dirty then as we sat waiting on a waiter we noticed the windows of the place looked like they have never been cleaned. We assumed the décor was to make the place look like an authentic Mexican restaurant with all the gaudy poorly laid tile on every conceivable surface and tacky items on the ceiling and walls. Most Mexican restaurants we've been to serve salsa and chips but this place served a water thin bland puree bean dip in a very small bowl. I ordered sweetened tea and my guest ordered unsweetened tea. Both teas tasted the same unsweetened. I asked again for sweet tea and the guy says it is sweetened. Really?? I had to add Splenda to even make it a little sweet. We both ordered a steak chimicanga and they were good which came with rice and some lettuce with sour cream. Of course like most of their items these are pre made and simply heated in the oven. The food was like any other Mexican restaurant but the whole place needs a through cleaning. It makes one wonder how clean is the kitchen? I doubt we will be back. read more

While it's nice that the bean dip is complimentary, this was completely inedible and mostly solid. We have been regulars here for years. In the last several months the service is just terrible! Our server didn't acknowledge us for about ten minutes. My order came incorrect and I politely told the lady who brought the other two meals separately, and she was very rude. It took 10 minutes for another plate (the SAME PLATE) to be brought out to me, when I again explained that it was incorrect. Another 10 minutes later and everyone is done eating when I finally get my meal. During this time the sever asked if we wanted more chips and we said yes please. She walked past our table another 5-6 times when we finally asked for more. She brought them as soon as we were finished eating. Oh and no water refills. We gave this place one last shot as we had an even worse experience last time we came. They brought the same incorrect plate to me (shredded beef, not ground beef- not like it's a complicated request) and she left it at the table for our whole meal. Someone ended up eating it so it didn't go to waste and she said she would have to charge us for it. Thankfully they took it off the bill, but the waitress was so incredibly rude. read more

The service here was by far the worst we've had at any restaurant in the upstate in my two years of living here. Unfortunately, upon being sat, we had to flag down a waiter after 15 minutes with no drinks. Of course, we were immediately ready to order. When our food finally came out, it was delivered with no utensils. We figured a server would follow shortly behind, but no. We had to go to the kitchen to request silverware. We were not followed up with at all throughout the course of our meal and had to go up to the hostess stand to get our check. For a final twist of the knife, a different server asked us if we needed anything (finally) while we were getting up to leave. Unfortunately we will not be back. There's too many Mexican restaurants in the upstate with better service and better food. read more

I have been a patron of the 1100 NE Main Papa's & Beer since they opened. Today, I had a very bad experience with them. Actually, it was me worst customer service experience ever with any restaurant. I will NEVER go there again! Without getting into great detail, Papa's & Beer did not get my to go order right. Would not refund $. After a 3rd trip, order was correct, but cold! It was my original phone order, just sitting there for 1 hour, 15 minutes. It was cold because they made it right, but gave me the wrong meal. Yes, I should've looked before leaving...but they should get it right and I shouldn't have to check it! Anyway, they would not own up to their mistake and blamed me for their mess up! Additionally, they had to get a translator to speak with me because they didn't understand English. Maybe just me, but I think knowing English would be helpful in America. Top of the list with us these days for restaurants- safely dining outside. Check that off- we were at least 10 feet away from other guests for dinner at P&B on a Tuesday evening. Servers and the rest of the staff in masks, though inside dining didn't appear to enforce customers wearing them. Tables wiped thoroughly between seatings. Dining outside safely here does have a drawback, the proximity to Laurens/Main St. makes it quite noisy with the traffic. We had the California Burrito served with rice- a portion large enough that more than half went into a go-box (unfortunately one that is NOT recyclable). I wanted to ratchet up the temp a bit, but had to remind Axel after the food came out of the kitchen that I wanted a side of jalapeño and Valentina sauce. We also ordered the #17 combo- going with a Chile Relleno and Taquitos (with beef instead of chicken). The taquitos were severely overdone, but were replaced upon request in literally seconds. Problem was the replacement was with one chicken and one beef. The Chile Relleno had no cheese that we could find. This is a good spot if you are interested in dining safely right now, and interested in large portions. As for the specifics of the meal, probably best to set your expectations properly. read more

Absolutely loved it. The food was good and you get extremely large portions for a reasonable price. The best part for me was definitely the salsa bar! So many different salsas and a spicy one that actually put tears in my eyes. Enjoyed mixing the different ones throughout the night. I went here for my birthday. My g/f had been wanting to take me here since I moved here from California and let me just say it didn't disappoint. It's probably hands down the best mexican food I've ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection, the waitress was very patient and understanding with all my questions (they have a lot of varieties for dishes). We have been to the locations in Greenville and the one in Spartanburg as well. We are vegetarian and the menu is very friendly for us. I love the Organico Burrito. It's loaded with veggies and the bean dip before the meal is great. Chips are not too salty and the drink specials are wonderful. Table-side Guacamole is exceptional. October had $.99 Margaritas and they have a Monday through Thursday Happy Hour until 7 p.m. with $2.00 Huge draft beers. It remains our favorite! read more

I have been to all three locations in the Greenville area. They have some solid Mexican food. The Guacamole that they make at the table is great and the bean dip and salsa bar are good. I usually choose one of their several burritos or a torta, a Mexican sandwich, for my meal. Both are delicious. They have Negra Modelo on draft. The margaritas are really good, too. My favorite is the mango. The service at this location is not great, sometimes the waitresses seem to forget about the outside tables. read more

This location is much smaller than the Haywood Road location and you can feel it. Otherwise, they would earn 5 stars. Absolutely the worst service I've ever had. We stopped coming in to the two Simpsonville locations because the servers there will look straight through us to seat or serve someone else, for absolutely no reason! Well now I'm a delivery driver and have been treated even worse. Today I got looked over a few times before I got greeted and then once they finally started looking for my order, I was sitting at one of two empty booths by the register because of a knee injury and the brace I'm wearing and one of the servers had the audacity to sit someone at the booth (even though there was an actual clean one right next to it) and proceeded to stare at me until I got up. Same server who ignored my existence RIGHT IN HER FACE to serve the folks who came in 5 mins after I did. Needless to say, I refuse to be a customer AND a delivery driver for this place. Do better!! I work in the restaurant business on multiple levels and do deliveries as a side job and I've never treated anyone the way I've been treated here. Do. Better. read more

Huge portion, great taste, reasonable price. other person had Fahetta Nachos an appetizer on the menu but was dinner portion. Waiter was not the friendliest but all else was great. This place has the WORST service. We've waited about 30-40min for a refill on drinks. The waitress passed us five times and didn't even noticed our drinks empty or asked how everything was. We ordered churros and it's literally ONE churro that they cut into three small pieces. The price for the ONE churro is 3.99. Never again. Don't waste your time. The manager was loud and rude. Found this place a few years ago when it was in its old location. Really enjoyed it so Precious and I hit it up on the way out of Greenville. I think was makes this place stand out from most Americanized Mexican places is the way they season their meats. Steak, pork and chicken dishes have different flavor profiles but each is enhanced by some time on a hot grill as well. Solid meal and excellent value for the money. read more

This place sets the bar for all other Mexican restaurants in the area. It's not your standard Mexican place with all the combos of the same stuff -- it's all unique items.
