Wanted just to look at some cars to see what we liked, but all the doors of the vehicles were locked, we just wanted to look inside. one car had the key in the door so we opened it and the alarms went off. Salesman came out we said we just wanted to look inside I asked if he could open it for us to take a look he said no he couldn't without the alarms going off, he said too many thefts, come on guy we just want to look inside he standing right beside us, so we said to hell with it and left. Why would I buy a car $30,000 + without checking it out, and no I don't want to go inside and for you to check our finances without finding a car we like first, besides we were thinking about paying most of it with cash. Buyer Beware: My Subaru Outback is a lease through Pape Subaru. The factory tires have only lasted 23k miles. I had my car serviced and tires rotated at the appropriate times by a reputable local Subaru shop whom I trust completely. Most of my driving is in town. Subaru was willing to cover the cost of 2 of my tires but not all 4 (which seems to suggest Pape Subaru also feels the tires are substandard) I feel Subaru is putting substandard tires on out of the factory so please be aware of this when purchasing a new vehicle from Pape Subaru. The service department recommended a middle of the road Yokohama tire with a life expectancy of 30-50k. You would think this would be the standard tire to begin with. It's a bummer because I am now putting the same substandard tires on my car because in 9 months I will be done with my lease. read more

took my car here for a minor oil leak. they told me the head gasket needed to be replaced, and quoted me $2,800. i took my car to my local garage for a second opinion, and they identified it wasn't the head gasket, but instead another small gasket that was leaking. they replaced for $200. they were correct - a year later and my car holds oil great. i can't believe i almost wasted $2,800 here. were they trying to scam me? are their mechanics just incompetent? either way i'll never be back. read more

I had a wonderful experience with the sales department and the sales person who sold us the car was fantastic. Unfortunately, I haven't even owned the car for a month and it stopped starting. When I called and spoke to someone in the service department, he first tried to blame it on lights being left on, which didn't happen then I was told the life of the battery was only good for 36,000 miles and it still has the original battery. I bought the car with just a little over 38,000 miles so that probably should've been changed before they sold it. Was also told that this is normal for Subarus if they're not being driven every day. The Service department is rude and should be retrained in their customer service skills. I'm already regretting this purchase. I'm hoping this isn't the beginning of several future problems. My advice would be if you choose to work with this dealership to ask many questions including about the battery. read more

I bought cars from Pape, but it was awhile ago so this review is for the service department. The level of professionalism, attention to detail, and service here is just amazing. They've referred me to other mechanics when their overhead costs would be too much, they've comped work. Sometimes there's a premium to pay for service, and sometimes it's hard to get an appointment because they're fully booked for weeks. But after a string of recent car issues, today my car is running better than it has in months. Besides, there's wifi in the waiting room. read more

Amazing people and amazing service! In the middle of our roadtrip, we had to bring in our Forester to check on an issue with the electronics. The service advisor, Tanya, made this as convenient for us as it possibly could be. She set us up with a great loaner (brand new Impreza) and within minutes we were off looking at lighthouses! The next day she messaged that our car was ready. The issue was easily identified by the technician, and the part was under warranty. The sales department was wonderful. However I have had nothing but problems when I either make an appointment or try to make an appointment with service. They give a time the car will be ready and it hasn't even been taken in at that point they say they fix something and it's not fixed. Yesterday, I needed a new battery and Nathan came out to me to tell me the cost and I approved the cost. Went car shopping with a friend this week. Pape Subaru was so wonderful to deal with. No high pressure, our sales person, Danielle, was easy to talk to and was willing to show my friend different models and test drive each of them. The manager, Vinnie, was pleasant and friendly. Went to purchase a pre-owned vehicle from them due to my previous car being totaled. Had to put my belongings in the back of my car. They took the car into the shop that I signed for. Needed new tired and a transmission flush. Check engine light kept coming on and they could not diagnose the issue. After 4-5 days waiting for a response, they called stating they were not comfortable selling me the car. Told them I would be in the following day to look at another car. Between that time, they took the car to be cleaned and threw away all of my personal belongings including some holiday family airlooms that have been passed down 5 generations of my family! Reported to sales manager whom offered an extended warranty on the new car. Unacceptable as I should get a check as compensation for the value of the goods. Worked to the Vice President who was the worst customer service representative for the company I have ever encountered. He was short, rude, and stated he did not care about my family airlooms. Told me he would not have offered me anything as compensation as the manager did. How he got to where he is today is beyond me. My mother and father were upset due to the loss. In my anger, I wrote to the owner of Pape Subaru. He was open to a conversation about compensation but tried every which was not to just write me a check for what was owed. He attempted to divert blame to me for full responsibility when my belongings were promised by three representatives, sales, manager and service that the belongings would be safe in the car. After arguing with him during 3 different phone calls and exhausted with dealing with such an incompetent company, I settled for about 85% of what was owed back to me as a check. To future customers, don't shop here. There are plenty of other subaru dealerships that will treat you right even if a problem comes up. Dashlights (BRAKE, check engine, fluid at temp) came on my 2010 Subaru Outback ( ~84,000 miles on it.) Nothing else wrong with car, driving fine, but to be safe and not exacerbate anything I pull off on shoulder of highway and call AAA for a tow to Pape Subaru on a Thursday night. They are closed, so I speak with them on Friday. They say they can't look at it until Monday. No problem, they lend me a wonderful 2022 for the weekend. On Monday morning 9am they call me that the car is ready to be picked up. "Transmission fluid was low so we topped it off".."everything seems to be running fine." $140. Despite performing services being illegal to do without owner consent on both service rendered and cost, I was happy that's all the problem was. If I only knew. I drive back up to ME from MA on Monday and pick up my car. The drive is 3 hours- I filled the loaner gas tank all the way, even though I received it at 1/4. I pay them and leave. 30 minutes later my dash lights come on. And this time my steering goes and gas isn't working. Able to slowly pull over to shoulder. Get another tow to a closer Subaru place. The technician there tells me the transmission fluid is thick and silvery and smells horrible. Tested it and it's full of metal. Should normally be replaced for this vehicle model between 80,000 and 90,000 miles. But now my transmission is shot and they estimated repair cost at $8000! my car is now also only worth $1000 according to their sales dept Told them about Pape experience and they tell me they would NEVER "top off the transmission fluid". Pape should have noticed the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. Instead, they put new transmission fluid on old transmission fluid creating a dangerous slurry for my transmission. What could have been routine maintenance turned into a totaled vehicle. Spoke with Katie Pape, for it to conclude with, she's going to talk to her service team and figure something out for me. "I'll call you Monday". That was 2 weeks ago. Called her today (Monday again!) and she has eluded me thus far. Thanks Pape, I don't have a vehicle now! Lesson, if anything, is don't go to Pape Subaru. I will update this if they rectify the situation somehow, but I won't hold my breath. Cherry on top: they left an empty pack of Marlboro (we don't smoke them) in the back of my car. read more

To top it off, he spent at least an hour going over the specifics of the car with us, in the car, showing how everything worked, even linking out phones. I won't get into the mess that was my Subaru (stalled in the middle of a 50 mph street) before I brought it into Pape but I just want to give the hiring manager of this branch a huge shout out! The service AND sales staff were accommodating, super friendly, knowledgeable and made me feel like I was getting some star treatment with how quickly and efficiently they treated my car woes. My check engine light came on halfway through our drive to Bar Harbor for vacation. Luckily we were only a few miles from Pape Subaru. Staff were extremely helpful and managed to fit us in for a diagnosis despite it being a very busy Friday morning. I received a diagnosis within two hours, and since Pape did not have the necessary parts on hand to complete the repair, they provided me with the name of another dealership near our destination we could contact. If we were remaining in the area we would have had the work completed at Pape, as staff were professional, helpful, and completed the diagnosis free of charge despite knowing we would need to have the repair completed elsewhere. I purchased a new Forester in 2015, and got the speech on life time power train warranty. At 79,000 miles the valve broke loose and took out the engine. When I called the service manager he was almost laughing at me and had a rather take it or leave it attitude on a $5,000 plus repair bill. The engine was bad from the start Subaru has had problems with this in other cars and other years, they just don't care at Pape. No help at all in getting or even looking into assistance from Subaru. In short Pape just wants to sell new cars not service them or be involved after the sale. Buy a Toyota. read more

Initially I was impressed by this dealership. As the months moved on though I was consistently unimpressed. It started in the service center with them not updating my records. Then body trim started falling off and needed to be reglued but I had to bring it in for an eval first and take the day off work. Then there was an issue with the electronics (eye sight etc) that I was told was nothing. Then the tired didn't pass inspection after 25K miles. "Oh, the factory does not put on quality ones and they are not under warranty". Then I found out I was played by the sales and financing department around the ability to export the car while it was financed in the US. Nope. Not true despite multiple assurances at three different levels at the time of purchase. Sorry, you'll have to figure it out and either pay the remaining 28K or maybe we'll buy it back. Nope. No way. Not setting foot in this parking lot again. A half dozen follow-ups to the manager and only a single phone message back. Follow-up with Subaru America. Sorry, they are independent from us. *Review based strictly on the service department* People can be extremely passionate when it comes to a good mechanic. I've taken my automobile here enough times to form a solid opinion. Based on my experience, I would say that yes, they don't do inexpensive work - but, you honestly get what you pay for. I'm not good enough to tinker under my own hood. These guys are pros. They are no nonsense. They are polite. They don't try to upcharge you on unnecessary work. They do their best to get you out the door in the same day. They call you a few days later to make sure you're satisfied. They've fixed several malfunctions or just broken parts on my car, without the need for follow-up work. They even know me by my face when I walk in, which I'm sure is something to be proud of under the circumstances, but at least I feel like a VIP. What's really great is the free shuttle service they offer you. They come pick you up when your repairs are done. Once I even had to leave my car overnight and they arranged a nice rental car, for free. The waiting lounge is decent, if not extraordinary. It's very clean. There's cushioned chairs, a Keurig, free 'limited' wifi and magazines. Sure you could take yours to a chain store repair shop, or a friend of a friend however. I like the peace of mind knowing that these guys are specialists on exactly my make of car. read more

I purchased a new 2017 Subaru Impreza sport and have consistently had issues (burning oil). After repeated attempts to get this issue corrected I was scheduled at Pape Subaru for another test as part of the "lemon process". I called Pape Subaru today to address an ongoing issue with my vehicle. I was in the parking lot and there was a line out the door. I called the service department because my engine was visibly smoking and I felt it was unsafe to drive. I expressed my concern to a female employee and that I was there to address an issue I was already in contact about. She told me there was no one available to help me and said to email William. I ended up having my vehicle towed to another Subaru dealership. I hope moving forward they address this issue and prioritize customer safety and satisfaction. read more

The sales staff was approachable and they weren't overbearing. I found the sales staff to 1) be knowledgable about their products and honest when comparing them to competitive brands. and 2) I felt that the dealership was fair in their pricing.
