We got there, and they knocked it down to 1500 as they said, we never told them the top didn't work. We drove 120 miles round-trip for that! read more

we were all excited by the looks and appearance of the car, but took a second look at the tires and noticed that they were all dry rotted and very unsafe for a sticker. all 4 of them. our carmax rep told us it was minor and tried to hide it. the car clearly should not have passed inspection but it had a new sticker on it. we felt like it was shady. i never write reviews but wanted people to take an extra look at everything. this is our first and only experience with Carmax. good luck everyone! read more

I was looking to buy a used Honda Ridgeline in the 38-45k range about a week ago. I found one in Chicago on CarMax and reserved it. I received text messages from the salesperson the next morning asking when I could come in and take delivery. I told her I would try and make it in at 1pm. She responded that she would be on break at 1pm and that I would have to come another time. I am looking to spend 43k on this Ridgeline and I have also sold cars in the past. I would have been fired on the spot if I had told a customer paying 40k+ that they cant come in at a certain time because I might be on break . Being annoyed, I decided to not go in and to just ask the 2 important questions I had on the vehicle. I sent her a text saying I couldn't make it in that day but could she please let me know if they were firm on the price and if they had any information on the previous owners reasons for giving up a current year vehicle with only 3k miles on it. That text was 2 days ago and I still have not received a reply text/email or phone call. Coming from someone who was in the car business for 10+ years this place has to be a scam. This company is clearly looking to take advantage of people who have no experience buying vehicles or family members to help them. Carmax is a fraud. Carmax hid the history of my 2020 Subaru ascent. At 20,049 miles my car was found to have transmission issues. Come to find out , this car had previous transmission care under Subaru warranty this information was NOT disclosed to me when buying the car. They tried to sell me car care warranty when buying the car of which it was only at 14k miles so I declined the warranty. Upon talking to carmax they informed me that it's actually under warranty with Subaru for 60K miles and they should fix the problem. Carmax, isn't helping fix the problem. Don't go and buy from them. They do not disclose true car history! My family car is now a huge debt. read more

Went to complete a deal and receive a check for a vehicle that was traded in. The offer went down 500 yes it was past 7 days and a lower value is understandable. But 500 dollars less was explained by the representative by saying she completes an honest appraisal, insinuating the person who did the first appraisal was not honest. I will not go to car max again if I have to deal with the individual who insinuates her coworkers are less honest than she is. Spoke to one of the managers and explained the situation and I hope he does the right thing in this situation. read more

I was searching around for a Ford fusion and came across CarMax. I love that you have so many options to pick from not only from your local Carmax but also have a huge selection of cars from all over the U.S when searching online for a reasonable delivery fee. I did everything over the phone including signing all documents, down payment and delivery fee so when my car got delivered to Carmax I was able to pick it up the next day and left the dealership within 20 minutes. Bought a MiniCooper roadster a month ago - on the test drive, we noticed the back door latch wasn't working. They told us they would order the part and repair it. Two weeks go by with no communication - when I emailed them - they said the technician didn't know which part to order and I should just bring it to a Cooper dealership and have them bill CarMax. Another repair facility isn't just going to bill CarMax - I asked them to set up the appointment and 2 weeks later - still waiting for a response. When I purchased my car in September 2019 I had a great car buying experience. Fast forward July 2021 my motor blows before the mileage hit 63,000(only had 33000 and change at purchase).I immediately remember, I bought Maxcare extended warranty up to 100,000 miles or 60 months.WORST EXPERIENCE, Maxcare reps are beyond rude, told me "We aren't a taxi service" when I said I dont have a credit card for a rental car.Denied my claim and said "deal with the manufacturer!This is DAY 7,with no loaner,no rental,and no closer to resolution! I paid $1700 for a warranty that won't cover a blown motor! I haven't even put 28000 miles on in in 1 year and 10 months! We have bought two cars here and been completely satisfied with both for over a year. The no-dicker price point is reasonable and any problems are immediately made right. Make sure you go over the car repair history of any vehicle to see what they've identified and addressed. Avoid vehicles that may have had more than cosmetic problems or minor stuff like a new battery. Definitely finance elsewhere and don't buy their inflated car repair contract. The phone sales reps are next to useless and contradict one another. Most of my income is from investments, the wouldn't accept income that wasn't a monthly payment. Too much effort and gard to trust. 5 different phone reps told me my investment income was fine for financing and I was already pre-qualified. Very happy with the vehicle itself but once we got going on the paperwork & financing, I found out why their prices are so cheap. They kill you on interest rates!! Buyer and Loyal Customer Beware. Purchased my RAM from them in 2016. Sold it to them in Dec 2020 for $21K fearing I may lose my job during the pandemic. Things worked out, my truck was still available come May, and I tried to buy it back. They put $3K of work into it (I had them show me the paperwork), and told me it would be $31K to buy it back. So $24K in value, for $31K, giving them $7K in margin. I asked if we could split the difference, they said no. I even offered to pay the $31K and eat the $7K because I loved my truck so much...if they could throw in the MaxCare extended warranty. They said no, that would be another $3K. From start to finish (and beyond actually) this was a first class experience. They were professional and efficient throughout. The price paid may have been slightly over what I could have got had I been prepared to travel but the level of service I received made it well worth it. The vehicle was only driven at night or in the rain for the first 48 hours but then on the third day I notices a chip in the windshield right in the drivers eye line. On calling CarMax they immediately put us in touch with a third party repair company and the repair was completed at my work place at no expense to me. I had such a great experience buying my car here. The staff is awesome, everyone is really nice, helpful and easy going. I went in three times before I made a decision and never felt pressured. The paperwork did not take long at all either. I was having an issue with the lift gate two weeks after I bought it and it ended up just being a glitch and they looked at it for no charge and told me how to fix it in the future. The sales rep (shout out to Josh S.!) explained the whole process, did not pressure me to buy a car, and delivered on his promise to have a thorough car appraisal and purchase offer within an hour! This company scams you into thinking you can have them "HOLD" a vehicle for 7 days. An outright lie! Scam! BS! Whatever you want to call it. I registered on their website as instructed. Clicked the icon that was to "HOLD" the selected vehicle for 7 days and made an appointment (which was required) to go and inspect and drive the vehicle. Received a confirmation email from CarMax stating my vehicle was ready and waiting for me. I showed up on time with excitement to purchase the vehicle "specifically held for me" and was introduced to a nice young man named Miles. We walked the lot to to look at OTHER vehicles because the one that was held "just for me, and for 7 days" miraculously had been sold. Imagine that. It's called BAIT AND SWITCH and has been going on in the car industry for 50 years. Miles spoke to his manager and said he would be happy to show me another vehicle.....REALLY! My Husband and I went to check them out with no expectations. We were told about their free transfer of cars within 250 miles, and found a car online in RI that we were interested in seeing. They promised the car would be transferred within a couple of days. To keep it short, it took a month for the car to arrive. Everyday I was told the car would arrive tomorrow, and then the next day, etc. When I asked where the car was, no one knew. They couldn't tell me where between Maine and RI the car was. Then one day, it just showed up. Out of the blue. Still, no one knew where the car had disappeared to. I had been promised in an email that as a result of this whole situation, they would be willing to negotiate on the price of the car for me if I still came in and test drove the car. So, despite my better judgement, I went back. The car was way below expectations and I was told that I was given wrong information as far as negotiating a price, they don't do that. When I showed the manager the email from the employee who sent it to me, she told me again, I was wrong. There was no offer to look into it further, no mention that perhaps it was another store manager who had agreed to meet with me, just that I was wrong. I gave them a shot, I waited out a supposedly rare situation, but in the end, the staff is young and seems inexperienced, and their customer service is severely lacking. read more
