Papelon serves some of the best South American food in metro Detroit. It's unique in that it's Venezuelan cuisine, not the usual tacos and burritos that you'll find. Everything is made to order, authentic, and made with fresh ingredients. I've been a fan of everything I've tried here so far including the fruit drinks, rice bowls, and arepas. This little gem is a cafe with a food truck. Orders get placed inside and picked up at the food truck window. Service is quick, efficient, and friendly. There are tables to sit inside but I have only taken to go. The arepas are delicious but my favorite is the cachapa. The abundance of melty cheese and flavors is fantastic. I also absolutely love the sauce that comes with the food. It's so good I could drink it. It compliments the food so well. There are so many things on the menu I'd love to try! This personal touch was definitely appreciated and made me want to come back even more than the delicious Croffle! I did try a chai latte this time and it was just Tazo concentrate. Hidden gem in the area. Ordering process is a little convoluted as you order inside and pick up from a food truck outside and bring it back in. The food is very good and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegan/vegetarian options. The latter are quite cheese-heavy, so be aware. Also very accommodating for gluten-free folks. So I ordered the Pabellon it was a good choice. It has shredded chicken, black beans, sweet plantains and cheese. Absolutely delicious! We have been talking about trying this place for months, and finally stopped in for lunch. The cafe is cute and clean and service was great and food was prepared quickly. We ordered the "bratty queen" and "pabellon" arepas. Both were delightful. Only complaint was that they were both supposed to include plantains but neither of them did, not sure if they were out or what but nevertheless, the food was excellent! It's one of those things that you wish you ordered more of because once it's gone you're left wanting more! We will definitely be back, and can't wait to try other items. read more

I have been meaning to go here for a while and I am glad I finally did. Everything was wonderful, loved the cafe/market feel. The service was excellent, was so helpful with recommendations. My favorite bit was probably the tequeños and the pistachio iced coffee was perfect, it was sweet without being too sweet. Both Croffles were excellent loved all the freshness on the waffle which made for a balanced bite. We seriously need to blow this place up!!! The interactions with the staff were amazing. She didn't waste any time explaining different menu items, and when the chef brought me a complementary side of the most delicious cheese sticks, it was just the "icing on the cake" the market inside doesn't have a ton of items, but what they do have is excellent quality! I've been looking forward to trying this restaurant! I stopped in after hearing there are more options available when their food truck is present, so today was THE day! They offer fast, friendly service when you walk in! I walked around just to take a good look at everything. I love the decor and space designated for kids! It's a nice touch. The cashier answered my questions about the menu items! I will return to try more items. The Catira-Blondie arepa was very tasty! The green sauce on the side made it even more delicious. I was a little disappointed at first that I came on a day where the only menu items I could try were cafe/brunch. It didn't take much to change that. I got an iced matcha, pastelitos, and a procuitto/parm/balsamic croffle. Everything was as tasty as it was beautiful. I absolutely loved it. The cilantro-pepper sauce that came with both my food items was to die for. I bought a thing of it along some cereal and other frozen stuff to try at home. I'll be back here often and can't wait to come on a day where I can try all the more savory stuff. Don't let the exterior of this place fool you. I went to the counter to pick up my food and she just stared at me. I didn't know I was supposed to go collect it from the truck outside. I visited their food truck about a week or two ago and I cannot stop thinking about going back! They were out of arepas, which was my first choice, but because of that, I tried their cachapas and their empanada and delicious doesn't even begin to cover how good they were. The cachapas are made with a sweet corn batter and are filled with your choice of fillings. I got one with chicken, shredded beef, cheese, and sweet plantains. My fiancé got one with shredded beef and cheese. Both were so good! The meat had amazing flavor. The plantains were perfectly made and gave a nice variety of texture and flavor. They had a special cheese that we got on my fiancé's and it was really good. There was also so much meat and cheese. Normally, my fiancé asks for double meat anywhere he goes, here, he was really happy with it just as it was off the menu. Also, the person who took our order was really nice and patient. We will definitely be going back soon. I may even make the 30 minute drive to the store front. We are really excited for their Ferndale location to open up! read more
