So we live 35 minutes away... and still drive past a dozen other breakfast spots just to get to The Pantry in Sterling Heights. That should tell you something. This is the original location, and it just hits different. The staff? Absolute pros. Friendly without being fake, fast without making you feel rushed, and they actually seem happy you're there. In 2026 that's basically a luxury experience. The food never misses. The kids are obsessed with the German pancake. It shows up looking like some fluffy, golden masterpiece and disappears in about four minutes. No complaints. No leftovers. That's a parenting win. I'm locked in on the 3-2-1. It's the perfect breakfast lineup when you want a little bit of everything and don't feel like making emotional decisions before coffee. Every piece of it is done right. My wife swears by the baked omelette. It's not just eggs thrown in a pan. It's thick, flavorful, and feels like someone's grandma actually cared while making it. Portions are solid. Quality is consistent. The place is clean. Coffee keeps flowing. You leave full and in a better mood than when you walked in. Not my first time and won't be my last. I love coming here for breakfast. Staff is always friendly and place is clean. They are pretty busy during the weekend so plan for that. I feel guilty rating this place three stars but I have to be honest. I have been here twice, only. Both times have been subpar, with my most recent experience being very poor (the day after Christmas). The restaurant has a system where they have you stand in line with your party until a table is ready. They'll pull parties from the line as the tables open so it isn't really in a first come first serve basis (completely fine, not my complaint whatsoever). I found the hostess to be a bit snub-like. Not welcoming or warm in the least. Even the person on my right was incredibly rude and trying to point directions - to the point that I had to remind her she wasn't an employee. When we finally got seated, the table was empty - no napkins, no silverware, water, nothing. The hostess was helping other tables with those items and must've passed us five different times. We kept inquiring about silverware and only realized they were short a dishwasher because they were informing the other tables. It felt so strange to be treated so strangely from the beginning. Our exhausted waitress finally showed up with water and coffee. I couldn't drink my coffee for 10 minutes because she kept forgetting silverware and a straw so I can at least mix cream and sugar. I was shocked to still see us charged almost $4 for hot coffee that was cold. The food was as good as your usual diner if I'm honest. Decent omelet, soft hash browns that could've stayed on the griddle a little longer, and the option for homemade white bread on the side (which was absolutely delicious with butter wow). I will say the Apple Fritter pancake thing was the star of the show. Hot and delicious!! My last comment: I promise I'm not a difficult customer - I work in the industry and understand the struggle. But for a restaurant to continue complaining that a dishwasher called off, I was surprised to see all of our food on separate plates. I'm talking about my omelet was on one plate, hashbrowns on one plate, pancakes on one plate, toast, etc. And I will say that my parents absolutely LOVE this place but it just isn't for me, sorry. read more

Absolutely the best!! You can't go wrong with any menu item, although I typically order breakfast. From the German Pancake (I favor the baby pancake and fruit in the Horn of Plenty), the home made raisin bread, awesome scrambles and the best fluffy omelette you'll ever have! It's hard to find a good Eggs Benedict at a very busy diner. I took the leap of faith because my dad brought me here when I was a kid and the memories tug at my heart. They are only open for a few hours a day, so if you are hankering diner food after 2pm, you are out of luck. The Eggs Benedict are homemade. The sauce is truly authentic. We stopped by for an early breakfast before meeting our realtor. This place stood out on Google due to its 1000 plus reviews. We arrived early before 8am and we were seated right away. Don't be fooled by the small restaurant area. This place does pack its tables and customers very tightly, but it feels homey. We were served water and coffee right away while looking at the menu. I couldn't decide what to order since everything sounded so good. I ordered one of their omelets with a stack of pancakes. My husband ordered country fried steak. We didn't wait too long until our orders arrived and holy crap it was a lot of food. We started to eat, and it was so good. The omelet was packed with a good number of veggies and meats. It was fluffy and hot. I tried my husband's country fried steak, and it was tender, not salty and the gravy was creamy and had the right amount of texture. We enjoyed every bite of our breakfast. First - it's a nice restaurant, good waitresses...and food is normally very tasty. Today, however my bill was just a little over $12.00 for 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast and a cup of tea. For a senior living on a fixed income...this is more than I am willing to pay for a simple breakfast. Consistently great! We just recently started coming here on a regular basis and it's always a good experience. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. We are usually the stick to what you know type when it comes to ordering, but my husband orders something different almost every time - and he's never disappointed. He really enjoys the oven baked fruit surprise and I recently tried the egg baskets and was surprised at how delicious they are. I have not been to the PANTRY RESTAURANT in over 30 years so why am I here? We were meeting friends for breakfast and this was half way, and I do remember food was good 30 years ago. We had poached eggs, medium in a cup, hash browns, sausages, and toast. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked, hash browns were very good, however the sausages were disappointing-deep fried instead of cooked on the grill top, out of six, five were hard, skin very tough from overcooking. I should have sent them back, but didn't want to wait 15-20 minutes for them to cook. Sorry to say I was not impressed with the Pantry this time; even though they have been around a long time with good reviews. I can get better breakfast near me in Troy. In retrospect I probably should have ordered the Dutch pancakes or an omelette-that's what the table next to us ordered. Not a total bust, just a little disappointing after waiting 30 years! Came here with a friend by recommendation of friend! Was unsure walking in with the whole wait in line no check in but it moved so quick! We were quickly sat and I began to contemplate everything.... Well because everything sounded delicious. I seen a special menu board with a few extra specials including pumpkin crepes, yum! I settled on the Dutch baby seeing I have never had one but have always wanted to try. Our waitress was super sweet and never let my coffee get below half full. Our food came quickly, and I quickly dove into my Dutch baby. Topped with lemon and powder sugar this light fluffy pancake style pastry was so delicious and different. Nice spot. Entrance a little tight if they are busy, one way in and out. Service was amazing, and everyone we encountered was friendly. The food was delicious. I had the pecan waffle and yes, it's a pecan waffle inside and out. Sometimes they offer pecan waffles and sprinkle 4 pecan on top and call it a day. Not here, it was loaded with pecans and very filling. I enjoyed it. I had a side of egg and bacon. Nice portion on the $5 bacon. My nieces had pancakes. The oldest had the blueberry pancakes and they looked fantastic. She said they were delicious. She would give them 5-stars. The other niece had pancakes. She said they were yummy. She didn't like the eggs, reminded her of hotel lobby eggs, I won't argue with her on that point. Prior to Covid, I would go maybe once a month and love it! We went today (Daughter and myself) and happy to report that it's just as I remember, since it's the first time since January of 2020. Lots of places changed their menu and limited it, but NOT The Pantry. Same staff and same yummy food. Still the line goes out the door and to me that's not an issue because you know that means great food at decent prices. Can't wait to go back maybe next month. read more

The absolute worst potatoes I've ever had in my entire life. I'm referring to The Pantry Restaurant's "Homemade Potato Pancakes" which came with my order of Mike's Egg Basket Special. All three potato pancakes had a funky smell and a rancid taste. The potatoes that were used to make the pancakes must have been rotten. I was repulsed from the very first bite. I took several more small bites to make sure that the disgusting taste in my mouth came from the potato pancakes and not from the sour cream or applesauce that came with them. Mike's Egg Basket was okay. The eggs could have been softer and fluffier. This place is very popular with locals for whatever reason. On weekends there is a line out the door. I waited for approximately 20 minutes before I was seated. The service is friendly. Maybe I'm missing something here or there are other menu items that the regulars love. The potato pancakes were really bad, gross tasting food. I don't think I've ever had anything like that anywhere. I cannot recommend The Pantry Restaurant when there are so many other restaurants in the area that serve a fine tasting breakfast. read more

The omelette was good just too small in size. Only received a serving spoon of potatoes. I was overly excited at the presentation at first because I received my individual orders in these nice square to go boxes. It was diffeeent than your typical styrofoam lol, but when I looked inside the boxes, I thought I was going to be met with a beautiful presentation of my breakfast, instead it was just my omelette and potatoes on a paper plate as if I made it in my kitchen for the kids, it was disappointing, but the food wasn't bad at all, just didn't receive enough portion for the price. read more

I've been to the pantry 4 times over the past 2 years. 1 out of the 4 times have I been happy with my meal. The other 3 times I've been disappointed. All times I've been the service has been good. Today I got the 3 x 2 x 1 (3 sausage, 2 eggs, and 1 French toast) with a side of American fries. The eggs ended up being cold. My knife was not clean. My friends food was cold as well. The only time I've been happy with my meal at this establishment is when I got one of the specialty dishes - apple cinnamon pancakes and split strawberry crepes. All the other times I got typical breakfasts and have been HIGHLY disappointed. I would not recommend the pantry unless you are looking for a specialty breakfast you can't get elsewhere. read more

I've been to no fewer than three other local places that toast frozen hashbrowns and call them potato pancakes. Not here; The Pantry does them right! Everything else has been great! This place is the bomb. We just moved here from California and this place topped most the spots out there. Everything was delicious. My favorite item was the farmers omelette with the brick cheese. However they make the omelettes is superior to most places. My husband had eggs Benedict (perf) and blueberry pancakes. GOTTA say just one hell of a solid old school hearty RESTURANT. The food is quality and the menu is expansive. The crapes are fresh and the fruit fillings...... They even have a loaded potato pancake .... They bake some of their eggs wich makes them super fluffy..... definitely worth the drive. First, the lady taking the order was friendly and polite on the phone and during pickup. It is always refreshing to get over that first unknown. The second thought, should I look over the order before leaving. Apparently, a lesson not yet learned. Based on the reviews, maybe I should had tried something more glamorous than the Paul Bunyon Breakfast. The order was for soft scramble eggs with the normal items for the order. Well, the eggs were regular scrambled, and the potatoes were old, dry and cold with curled up edges. The meats were standard re-heat on the grill and toast is toast. I guess making soft scramble eggs is an art. If in a pinch for a basic breakfast and not opt for a breakfast on a biscuit or muffin, it will do, I guess. read more
