This is someones private residence, not a place to buy party supplies. Not sure why yelp lists this as a party supply place.

One of the women working there made us especially uncomfortable--she kept following us around and watching us as if we were stealing. There was no smile, no greeting, and overall just a very unfriendly atmosphere. When I mentioned at the end that a more welcoming attitude toward customers would go a long way, she seemed completely indifferent. Update: The experience got worse--the staff didn't even bother to properly wrap a candle, and by the time I got home, it was already broken. After reading other reviews on Yelp, I realized this doesn't seem like a one-off situation. Many others have had similar experiences, which makes it seem like this kind of unwelcoming behavior is a pattern.

We live in the neighborhood and love supporting our local businesses, but the few times I have been in this store left me wondering why I even try supporting a business that clearly doesn't want me shopping there. Today was the last time I will ever step foot in this store again. No greeting, just a hand reaching for the merchandise I was trying to buy. No thank you, either. Seriously, why have a shop if you can't be bothered offering any kind of basic customer service? People wonder why brick and mortar stores are dying...well, this is the reason.

Background: I called Yury and placed an order for balloons for my wife's birthday on 11/16 and also paid him in advance. Attached is a screenshot of my Venmo payment to Yury on 11/7 saying "Balloons for 11/16 birthday event". It specifically says 11/16. Somehow Yury thought the event was on 11/9 as he had called me on 11/9 asking about details of the order. It was at that time I realized Yury had the wrong date as he was already making the balloons. I told him "no it is on 11/16" and he said all of his notes say 11/9. I know my wife's birthday so I am positive I said 11/16 and also my screenshot attached shows "11/16 event". The way I see it is Yury had 3 options at this point: 1. Put the customer first - Yury could think to himself: ok balloons are cheap, helium is cheap, and while he spent some time making the balloons, the customer may have been right here. He could have decided to just agree to fulfill the order on 11/16. 2. Find a middle ground - Yury could have thought, maybe he was in the wrong or maybe the customer was in the wrong, in which case let's find a middle ground / compromise. If so, he could have told me "hey I already spent some time/effort and materials in fulfilling the order, but how about I charge you for some of the materials and labor." Even if Yury proposed charging me for half of the total cost of the order, this would make some sense. 3. Put himself first - this is the option Yury decided to go with as he kept saying on and on that all of his notes say 11/9 and that he already made the balloons. Yury would not budge on anything. I even proposed to Yury: "ok how about you I pay you for a new order but you waive the $90 delivery fee for the new order" ($90 for delivery is a whole other issue where I feel like he overcharged to deliver within 5-10 minutes from his location). Even with this suggestion, Yury had to think about it and wouldn't give me a clear answer. Why is that such a difficult decision? Yury did not go and make a delivery on 11/9 so why would he charge me again for delivery the next week on 11/16? Makes no sense. Just use the $90 for delivery from my original order and apply it to my second order. Of those 3 options, I personally would have never chose option 3 if I were in Yury's shoes. If there is a Venmo payment showing 11/16 and the customer is saying it is his wife's birthday, it is likely 11/16. For that reason, I would have chose option 1 or at bare minimum option 2. However, Yury decided to put himself first here. Not the type of person I want to do business with personally and this is the type of person you would be working with if you choose to use Balloons Decor. Aside from the date of the event (which was very very important), Yury also got my order wrong. He sent over a quote, I told him no this wasn't what he discussed, and he realized and acknowledged it was his bad. People running a business need to be DETAIL ORIENTED, otherwise it can put customers like myself in situations like this. Lastly, Yury just isn't a pleasant person to talk to or work with based on my personal opinion. I would avoid this business.

However, I still do stand behind the inconvenience of ordering with Cute Balloons** I was going to be a repeat customer. This time I had time to plan and it wasn't as last minute. I will not be attempting to return as a customer nor do I recommend this business. I had a very straight forward order but because he didn't have the colors and type I wanted, the process was stretched out. There was a lot of back and forth with photos and questions. 24 hours later, I realize this is not how it should be. Based on my last experience, I knew I needed to ask questions and request for photos to get options. Because his "green" meant light green when I want a hunter green but he ONLY has the light green and told me he has "green" and would have provided that green to me if I didn't inquire more about it. After a while, it seems like I was directing the sales. To help the guy out, I told him not to blow up every shade of balloon but just take a single picture of the unblown balloon so that I can choose from it. And blow it up if I want to see how it looks like blown up. After that ordeal, he gave me a new quote that was close to my previous order (which had 30 more latex balloons). Basically this time $200 for 50 latex, 10 foil stars, numbers 1 & 0, and delivery. When my last order was $250 for 80 latex, 12 foil stars & delivery. Plus, we gave him a tip even though I was a bit on the fence of doing so. When inquired about the price this time, he concluded that each foil number was to cost $15. For a balloon business, choices are lacking. Eric has no concept of different shades of colors. Definitely has no interests in returning customers. We are a balloon loving party family. So we have had experiences with ordering balloons and blowing up balloons ourselves. I am very disappointed that this local small business is not quite trying to be what they are made out for. Now I'm just more mad because I wasted more time to write this review because I was unhappy with my experience with the balloon man. After I press "post review", I will forget about this business and let go of the angry feelings I have because, damnit! I have a 10 year old birthday party to plan.
