I went to this salon for over a year. I got hair extensions with Brittany; however she wasn't…read moreproperly trained at all; which she told me on my last visit that she trained herself. I reside 30 minutes from the salon and the last several sessions she put my hair extensions in with thread and not hair thread. As a result, they came undone several times over the 3 chances I gave Brittany. I had to spend over two hours between driving to the salon and traveling that it caused my plans to get ruined. The last time I went she did such a poor job that within four days of going back and forth to get them fixed they came undone within 24 hours each time within 7 days. Of course there was a big event I was working on and needed to be in cocktail attire with my hair done. She knew that and basically didn't care after the fourth time she messed up. She told me it was my problem and the salon didn't have anyone else to help me. For the money I paid this was unacceptable. I was super angry. I reached out to Brittany and she told me she wasn't going to help me again unless I paid. I should pay for her lack of knowledge and lies?! I don't think so. She even told me her boss agreed with her and she told me she didn't want to be my hair dresser anymore. So now I couldn't go to my fundraiser due to half of my extensions falling off my head and no amount of thread or pins would keep them in place. I looked horrible! I was brutally dismissed by someone trying to bully me out of ever coming back, and she took hundreds of dollars of my hard earned money. She made me feel like her lack of skill was my fault and lied to her boss so that when I called to get support two hours before my fundraiser they told me I wasn't meant to have extensions. Clearly they don't care about customer service. So I went to another salon and found out that the extensions were installed with thread for sewing clothing instead of thread for hair. She also caused my hair to get pulled out when they tried to get them out. Once I went to a real professional I never had an issue with hair extensions again. So no Brittany; I can get hair extensions; you just didn't want to get caught for your repeated mistakes. I don't like to say a bad word in reviews unless it was justified repeatedly. Mauve and Brittany were so rude and wouldn't assess her lack of professionalism and blamed me instead of trying to fix the issue. I now go to another salon and never had another problem again. So I guess I can get extensions; just as long as they are put in by a trained professional. I will never recommend or ever go back to this salon ever again! No one has the right to blame a customer for poor work and tell the customer she didn't want to work with me again because it was my fault that she had to waste time fixing her mistakes. Lesson learned ask about credentials instead of assuming the salon checked the skill of a worker and reviewed their professional certification.

I told her my hair wings when layered and to leave it long. She promptly chopped off a large top piece and proceeded to layer my entire head. The longest section was only ~3 inches long. She then tried to form ringlets and left it to air dry. It was simply awful. Trying to keep an open mind (and having no other option), I thought I might get used to it. I left the salon. I called her two days later and left a message that I was having trouble making my winging hair look halfway decent, and wondered if she could squeeze me in for a quick fix prior to my event. I was desperate. She never even called back. Very disappointing. I went to my event with a bird's nest hairdo that several people told me wasn't my best look... It was humiliating. If you're a new client, you won't be able to get in the same week. Kim is a one-woman show and is busy... because she's so good! So I scheduled my appointment for a few weeks out. I initially left her a message and she called me back when she was in between clients. Her place was easy to find, with its own little parking lot which made it convenient to zip in and out. Kim was friendly and listened to what I was looking for, and made suggestions based on my hair type. It was great. She was extremely efficient and my hair came out amazing. Now, I even send my husband there to get his hair cut. She is reasonably priced and sells Aveda products in her salon. I would definitely recommend Kim to anyone looking for a salon in the area... she's worth the wait!

Finding a new hairstylist is just as difficult as finding a new doctor. Whenever I move to a new area I try to ask for referrals from people who have similar hair to mine. I was referred to Alfa Jae Salon by someone who also has curly hair, however, after my visit I learned the person who referred me only gets their hair colored and gets it cut somewhere else. Here's what I liked about the salon: Everyone there was wonderful, they had a very cool eclectic vibe and lots of women were getting unique hair coloring done. I've always worn my hair straight but I'm ready to embrace my natural curl so I made the appointment requesting a cut and styling tips on how to manage my curls. The stylist was very sweet, she gave me a quick tutorial on how to add product and trying techniques, however the cut was average. The owner overheard our conversation because I was asking a lot of questions about layering and needing more shape and she immediately stepped in with some advice for the stylist. I didn't love my hair when I left but I also did hate it. I later learned the stylist I selected was still in training so that made a lot of sense on some of the apprehension she demonstrated and she said if it didn't work out I could come back. Now that I've learned more about styling curly hair I think if I would have scrunched out the crunch and did a little shaking it would have met my expectations. I'll be honest, I am very picky about my hair and own being a difficult client. This salon is great but I needed a more seasoned stylist, had I known she was a junior stylist I would have likely not made the appointment.

AND she gifted me some shampoo! I take care of my 94-year old Mom and we talked about her as I was getting my haircut. There was at least one time when she dropped the ball on a last minute appointment I made with her last summer. I didn't press when I saw she couldn't fit me. Recently June, she was a life saver by taking me as a walk in when a flaky braider canceled my appointment the morning of. I was so appreciative of her fitting me in as a walk in. I was in a panic mode, as you may know having a hair stylist flake on you is so disappointing and it's an inconvenience. Felicia completed what was suppose to be medium Senegalese but they turned out more small and I love them. They've lasted so long. I look forward to returning.
