I ever only use my yelp to give 5 star reviews, but unfortunately tonight if I could, I would give 0stars. Eva and Vivian upfront are great greeters! After that, this whole establishment lack professionalism and efficiency. Coming in on valentines night you come in with an understanding of it maybe a little chaotic, but this location was worse. We had reservations at 8pm, and instead of contacting us before coming in that they were behind on tables they waited for us to come in and check in to let us know that we were gonna be seated in 30-40 min from reservation We did not receive our drinks till 20 minutes later after being seated plus that was after being rudely questioned about our valid ID's... some updating training would definitely benefit their staff. When we received our surf and turf, which was a special that night. we received it without the items listed on menu due to them being sold out. I understand sometimes supply doesn't last but in customer service communication is key and thats what they lacked on. Unfortunately due to our time crunch we were already upset we did our least favorite thing to do which was to send our food back and cancel everything. We paid for our drinks and the lady manager was non apologetic to our situation. Truly upsetting that this kind of management is running a restaurant that could be great.. I really wanted to love Paradise Beach Grille. The location in Capitola is beautiful, I've lived here for 15 years, and we were prepared to make a night spending this with our friends from out of town on Valentine's Day of all nights. Unfortunately, what we got instead was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. The service was shockingly poor from start to finish, for what it's worth, (our waiter was great but dealing with a bad operation). Orders were slow, attention was nonexistent, and the staff seemed either overwhelmed or uninterested. For a restaurant that positions itself as upscale enough to justify an expensive wine list, the level of hospitality was nowhere close. What truly made the evening unbearable, though, was the manager's attitude. Rather than addressing concerns professionally, they were outright rude and dismissive the kind of behavior that makes you feel unwelcome the moment you speak up, especially when you're waiting your order, and they tell your party you're taking too loud. She approached our table, before we received food and claimed we were being too loud, meanwhile, a party of miscreants sat beside us drinking their tequila shots screaming about weight loss. When you're dropping that much money on dinner and drinks, you expect at minimum competent service and basic respect. We left frustrated, disappointed, and honestly shocked at how badly the experience was handled. Capitola has far better places to spend your time and money. Paradise Beach Grille was, for us, paradise in name only. Go here for drinks, not for food, and especially not good service. read more

Her Ladyship and myself, met another couple here to celebrate two birthdays. The view from the outside dining area was very nice. It's not a full on view of the ocean, but you could see it and the lagoon under us. The waitstaff, were friendly, and prompt. I had the Heavenly Turkey sandwich, 3 slices of turkey, which you could buy in any Safeway, and it was somewhat bland. There was a ramekin of cranberry sauce on the side, but I wasn't in a Thanksgiving mood. Her Ladyship also found it bland and wanting. Maybe a aioli sauce on the toasted bread would of helped. Fries were yummy!! Seemed to have an extra coating of something, which gave them a nice crunchy flavor. I didn't care much for the coleslaw either. I prefer the regular old type, ok if there's a bit of apple slices. Our waitress was super, brought me another beer promptly, (and it was a different type than my first) even though she was serving other patrons. Was disappointed with my after lunch Cognac. Served in a bar glass, instead of brandy glass. Blasphemes ... Her Ladyship, had high praise for her Lettuce Cups. Although, a starer, they were quite filling. It is now tired, run down, unprofessional, etc., etc. which seems to be the m.o. of the current owner.....take over a thriving hot popular business and run it in the ground which is what he has done with this place, The Crow's Nest and Gilda's. Any place that has no obvious Manager/person in charge will fail and this place obviously didn't have a lead as the place haphazardly fumbled during our visit. This owner obviously doesn't get it, this was a real neat place, the Crown Jewel of Capitola and now it's just sad relic......note to owner, high end restaurants don't have laminated menus. While the blue cheese olives in the martini weren't quite what I hoped for, I want the hand stuffed fresh blue cheese....everything else more than made up for it. The baked Brie was absolutely exceptional--perfectly warm and gooey with savory roasted garlic that added the perfect depth of flavor. For the main course, the blackened scallops in a beurre blanc sauce were cooked beautifully--tender and flavorful. Serviced was extraordinary. We had a seat outside and our server checked on us constantly. The appetizers and kids meals also came out fast. The food itself was a mixed bag. Kids meals were all fine, they had chicken tenders and they came with a cookie and a free frisbee! The ahi tower was perfectly fine I had the Monterey green salad half portion which was huge! Way undercooked raviolis, cold hard broccoli, and over breaded over cooked fish. That service charge doesn't even go to the servers. It's to "offset the price of chicken and steak" according to our server. We didn't purchase any chicken and steak. Maybe add your charge to the price of those items instead. Either serve bad food and charge less, or teach your cooks how to fully cook a vegetable. I can't even imagine consuming chicken in this place because of how inaccurate the cooking was. The veg side was sautéed zucchini which benefitted from a liberal salting at the table. Wish there could've been more variety in the veg, especially since it was a huge portion, but overall solid. + fries - crispy and fried perfectly. These are the kind with the extra starch coating to give it a perfect crisp + virgin Bloody Mary, extra spicy: I appreciated they actually made it on the spicier side! We came right as it opened, at 11:30 am. We were the first in the restaurant! We sat right at the window, where we had an amazing view of the sights of Capitola. The waitress was lovely! They really, really can't cook. The fish was cooked hard and dry. The coleslaw was greasy. And how can you mess up chocolate mousse? It was like pudding mix from a box. Noisy TVs (plural) each playing something different made it hard to talk. There's an extra "operations" charge on the bill that we didn't see on the menu. The flavors in the tower and mango balsamic and teriyaki sauce were delicious. The taro chips were light and slightly salted, almost unnoticeable in a good way. The rice at the bottom of the tower was not needed in our opinion. On to the entrees...swordfish and halibut. Both dishes came out hot and quick. Knowing that halibut is a dense fish I was nervous about what to expect. They did a fantastic job with it and did not disappoint. Both plates were well prepared and just enough to finish off.
