Came here for dinner last Friday before catching a movie. We arrived before 6pm when it wasn't busy yet; there're more people when we left. I liked their causal vibe and Christmas decorations. They even had an upside down Christmas tree! I had pork chop, which came with smashed potato and spinach. Unfortunately, the sauce was so salty making the spinach inedible. The pork chop was not bad after removing the sauce and so was the smashed potato as it wasn't all covered in sauce. Our server, Simone, was very nice and offered to get me another side order of spinach, which saved the day! My husband enjoyed his baked salmon entree, which was recommended by Simone. We had a nice dinner here. Our server Simone was very friendly and gave us good recommendations for food. I had the baked horseradish salmon, which was cooked very well (not overcooked at all), served very hot, and the spinach was cooked very well also, not limp and soggy like cooked spinach often is. The seasoning on the salmon was nice, with the horseradish seasoning apparent but not overpowering. The sauce was rich, but the right amount was on there to add taste but not make the dish too heavy. My wife's pork was good overall, but she found the spinach too salty for her taste, but Simone was great about offering a replacement plate of spinach which wasn't too salty and also offered other sides as well (but we just took the spinach). The lava cake came quickly, had plenty of ice cream with it, and wasn't overly sweet. The place is fairly casual, being in Santa Cruz/Capitola, and on one hand, the food was above what you'd expect at a fairly casual restaurant. But the prices were close to what you'd find at a nicer-than-casual restaurant (~$30 entrees, $40-45 for steaks), so the rating is measured against expectations for the price point rather than the ambiance. So it was good and we enjoyed it, but at the price point there are a lot of choices where you can get quite good food, so the star rating reflects that. read more

Very time I order a dish from here - I am not disappointed! I ordered far more things, but completely forgot to take a photo of them! For the appetizer get the chicken wings with honey & sriracha, the seared ahi tuna (to die for), & the focaccia bread. Service is not ever horrible here, they are always friendly & warming every time. I'd say the decor of the place is more like a diner look with a bit of modern style depending on which room you are seated in. However, it's very clean & welcoming. They are not serious about what they are doing. The hamburger was not cooked. Asked for medium rare, but it was raw. The top of the bun was stale, the button was waterlogged. You couldn't pick it up. We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised that this slightly retro restaurant had plenty of cozy booths and a good vibe. The food was good, but my mom said that her Green Scramble was a little unbalanced with too many artichokes and not enough eggs. Not sure what is going on with this place, used to be soooo good...now its okay. They did a remodel which helped with the ambiance a lot. They used to do a killer Prime Rib on the weekends but no longer. We keep coming back and have narrowed down the only good options are the burger and the seared ahi salad. This is a fun local spot that has amazing brunch on the weekends. Their Bloody Mary's are made from scratch and are the best in town. I usually order the veggie scramble and add chorizo, and it comes out just to my liking every time. They also have TVs so if you're looking for a sports game, this is the place to go. I ordered steak rare, it wasn't cooked rare but whatever. The kicker is that my wife has celiac and she got glutened. That means there was cross contamination somewhere. They could have not washed their utensils or cups, it might've but in the melons. Whatever. She didn't touch her entree cause she got sick from the honeydew. We asked to have it removed and they just didn't. I've worked in restaurants and we've all been in restaurants right? You can go send it back because you didn't like it or it wasn't cooked right and get it removed. They refused. The manager didn't even want to talk to us, and obviously my wife is sick now so I was just trying to leave asap. The meal was average at best, and I don't understand the gumption of a restaurant refusing to take off the meal when we didn't touch it. Terrible experience all because of management. read more

As a local, I used to really like this place but the last three times got worse and worse. A couple months (maybe less) ago for breakfast, the mugs had a coating that was peeling off and I kept having to pull pieces off my lip. I let the server know and they agreed they needed to be thrown out. A few weeks ago for lunch, they were still using the peeling cups, AND the calamari was way undercooked. I took it home and air fried it, then it was better Tonight I went for dinner. About 1/3 or 1/2 of my steak was inedible due to a ribbon of tough gristle. I couldn't chew it and break it down. In fact I could barely cut it. After a long wait for the server I let the waitress know and showed her. After a long work and Holiday week it was nice to get out to The Point. The whole place has a nice vibe. Its well lit and warm. You can sit at the bar, a table or a booth style seating. There are people of all ages there. Some enjoying the TV sports screen but nice and low key there. On our Particular nighttime visit our waitress stood out to us more then the rest, her name was Jules. She was friendly attentive and spot on through out our night. We will definitely be back. We went here for my 50th birthday dinner just my wife and I. Our reservation was at 5PM. Our server came right away to take our drink order then disappeared for 15-20 minutes even though there were only 3-4 other tables with guests. We had to go get the hostess to find him to come take our dinner order. My ribeye steak was perfectly medium-rare, but it was served over hard as a rock cauliflower florets. but my wife's NY strip special was medium well, when she also ordered medium rare. We don't get steaks often. And when paying over $50 for a steak at a steakhouse, I think it should be cooked the way you ask for it. So, I encouraged her to send it back. Now I am eating and awaiting my veggies to be redone and she is waiting for a medium rare NY strip. After another 15-20 minutes, our server comes out and explains that the chef says this cut of meat (NY strip) won't be tender at medium rare. So my wife switches to the rib-eye like I'm having. It would take another 15-20 minutes before she would see her new ribeye (which was more medium than medium rare) and at which point I had finished my dinner. I had written on the online reservation form that it was my 50th birthday and I was coming for their mud pie dessert. We were asked if we wanted dessert. I just wanted to leave so we asked for the mud pie to go. No, Happy Birthday was sung or said and nothing taken off our bill for our terrible customer service experience. I knew the ambience was going to be diner-like so that didn't bother me, but I thought the steaks would be good based on other Yelp reviews. Stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to give it a try. We got a full Caesar salad, it was good. I asked for it to be split between two plates, they charged an extra $2 for doing that. It was a real surprise how good our food was last night. We were a party of 10. Half of us got steaks of different kinds. One person got a chicken dish and a couple people got fish and someone got a hamburger. Everyone loved their meal.! Personally I had the steak with blue cheese on it. Hello, I went to dinner and was very much looking forward to it! I ordered the asparagus soup that was really not soup at all! It was thick like baby food even thicker than baby food and was stringy! Did not finish it! I also ordered the Castroville chicken that was suppose to have a balsamic glaze and mashed potatoes but I didn't even see the potatoes because there was at least 2 inches of liquid in the bowl/plate that basically dissolved into the liquid! It was basically like a chicken soup with artichokes! Was not enjoyable at all! The service was fast and the server was nice! The restaurant was quiet and was accommodating! Classic cool California Retro vibes are strong here. The staff is cheerful, polite, and helpful even though they did seem quite understaffed at the moment. They have ample, right of the street, parking which is a big plus in my book. We ate here our first night vacationing in Santa Cruz. We all ordered the filet mignon as our main dish. We shared the sweet potato fries and crispy Brussels sprouts appetizers. The food was prepared well. The tastes and textures were perfect. They offer some unique choices for sides with their main dishes which I give them 5 stars for effort and creativity. We chose the polenta and twice baked potato. Their polenta is absolutely delicious! The twice baked potato is good but definitely not as impressive as the polenta. *Our only criticism would be the vegetables plated with the filet mignon. We were given large pieces of broccoli and sliced carrot. They were pretty firm and not really seasoned. They seemed to be placed there just for looks. None of us ate the carrots and only a few small bites of the broccoli. A much better option would be something like locally grown artichokes from Watsonville or asparagus cooked in Gilroy garlic and olive olive oil. read more

Met a friend there last night expecting the usual disappointing SC grub and what a pleasant surprise. Like I want to go back again tonight, not at all what I expected. Service was great, not rushed but they kept an eye on us so we had everything we needed but only when we were ready. The calamari was possibly the best I've had, the salmon tacos were insanely good, not overly breaded, in fact I don't think it was breaded at all thankfully, dusted with spice, cooked perfectly so it wasn't too dry, fell apart in my mouth and was obviously quality fresh fish, just really really good food. Why was this place not on my radar? Only complaint; I'm a bit of a beer snob and although there were enough selections for most, the beer is pretty standard fair. Socks and Sandals and Sculpin is not exactly topline stuff for IPA these days but it was passable. But the food was so good I didn't care what beer they served.
