SKETCHY!!!! This guy is a total con-artist. Do not rent here. Rented a really odd converted van (see pics of "queen sized bed above) that smelled odd and like plastic off gassing or glue... I had the really awful experience of getting in a wreck---he was super unpleasant about it and insisted I bring the van back (gladly---the fumes and interior were driving us out anyways) with a promise that he would refund the remainder of our days. I was so eager to get into a decent vehicle I returned the ride...no refund ever to be seen. His response to my requests that he honor his word: "Sucker! Rented a car from Anthony- turned out to be a very interesting adventure that was both a pain in the ass and comical to some degree- less assertive people may not have faired so well as I did. Here's the story: I planned a trip to Kauai the week of 6/7/21- right before Hawaii opened up non restricted inter island travel as some relief from COVID began to seem realistic. I waited until too late in the game to rent a car from a reputable source for any kind of decent price. Shame on me for that. I found Anthony on Yelp (pretty far down the list) and gave him a call hoping I could get something. He said he had a Toyota Corolla 5-speed for me for $150 a day. Sold - I went for it all things considered. He was going to leave the car in the baggage claim parking lot with the keys in the ashtray. I reached out to him when I arrived to touch base & learned that he was going to leave me a black Subaru instead. Ok- no problem.... until I checked out the car. I immediately noticed the passenger window didn't roll down AND the A/C didn't work. Not good- for my wife in the passenger seat (or for me by proxy). I then realized that there was a rather large sunroof in the vehicle- I though maybe that would help keep my wife ventilated during our tropical adventures, but alas, that too was out of order. Also I noticed that the glove box in the dashboard kept popping open after I closed it. After a closer look I realized that duct tape had been rolled backwards onto itself & stuck on both sides to 'stick' it closed. The latch was basically a decoration at this stage of the car's life. About then, I received a text from Anthony notifying me that the power steering had 'gone out the day before'. Awesome. To be fair, the engine ran great, but once I got on the road, it became obvious that there was a problem with the left front tire. the left front tire. This car was a total pooch. So I shot Anthony a text letting him know this was not going to work, but given that it was about 10pm, figured we needed to get ourselves to our rental, so off we went to Princeville. Next morning I reached out to Anthony again to seek a functional vehicle only to receive the response that he had 'absolutely nothing else available' and that I could have a refund if I wanted- he wished me luck finding something on my own on Craigslist. I rejected this postulation, reminding Anthony that I had already paid HIM to provide me with a functional vehicle. I also explained that I had surgery about 3 weeks prior and couldn't manage the failed power steering. Quite a bit of back & forth ensued with me making suggestions ranging from him being the one to search Craigslist & foot the bill for whatever reliable vehicle he could muster up to me trading the albatross he stuck me with for his personal car for the next four days. Eventually, he let me know that he had 'come up with' another car- a Honda Civic. Ok- this sounded pretty good. So this is where I have to change gears and give Anthony some props- he drove about 25 miles to deliver the Honda to me- full tank of gas upon delivery. Pretty solid effort to make things right- that's why he ended up getting three stars- the only reason. So back to the Honda- while this car actually drove GREAT & everything worked perfectly, it looked like it had been driven down every dirt road in Kauai. It had red mud EVERYWHERE - all over the floor birds inside the car, heavy layers of red dust all over the interior- everywhere. Also it smelled heavily of weed. My wife said it was kind of like riding around in an old weed pipe. Personally I got a kick out of this because we looked like locals driving around & I somehow felt like I was getting an experience that made me feel more connected to the hippie/chill spirit that Kauai exudes. So while most people would have been really pissed if they ended up with this car.... I kind of dug it. So my advice is this- if you deal with Anthony, get everything in writing on the front end- including EXACTLY which car you will be getting & a signed agreement that he will provide you with a fully functional, safe car. Also, think about checking into having a plan B if he tries to pull the bait & switch the way he did with me. All of that being said, he ultimately did take care of me & didn't leave me in a bad spot. We had a blast in that Honda. read more

Paradise Car Rental rented me a car with expired tabs (certificate of inspection) and with no proof of insurance. A police officer pulled me over within one mile of the rental company and cited me for the expired tabs ($70.00) Had the officer been less understanding, he could have also cited me for the lack of vehicle insurance, a fee of at least $200.00 plus a mandatory court hearing. I returned the car immediately only to find the place closed. After a 2 hour wait I got my rental payment back and a promise to pay the fee for the infraction, but they never paid. As a result, I had to appear at the courthouse to request that the default judgement against me be removed. I have called Paradise Car Rental several times, but they will not return my calls. read more

I haven't yet rented from them, but I will next visit. I met the owner, Anthony, while hiking. If you look up "the kindness of strangers" in the dictionary you will see his picture. He's a standup guy who clearly cares about others and does the right thing; exactly the kind of person whose business we should support. We met near the end of a hike, at a gate that opened up to a steep descent with big drop-offs on either side. I admitted that I was afraid of heights, and he said "you still need to go to the end - I'm ex-ski-patrol; I got your back." Indeed, he stayed longer than he planned, just to ensure I returned safely. That's the kindness of strangers, and that's doing the right thing. Additionally, he (unprompted by me) took my picture at the end so I'd be able to share with my friends/family. As we hiked back, he ensured passers-by were comfortable with his dogs, he shared plenty of local knowledge with me, and he even helped one person get over some tough terrain. I'm 100% sure he brings these strong ethics to his business dealings, and I plan to rent from him when I return to Kaua'i. read more

If I could leave a "0" stars I would do so! The "Manager" of the site was AWFUL and has the worst customer service I think I have experienced in years. I know it is extremely difficult to find great talent, but ignorance and rudeness is not acceptable. We made this booking in February of this year flew all the way from Dallas in what started out as a pleasant experience one of the employees that was actually exceptional. When we got to the place to pick up the car the seat was very far forward on the passenger side. The team tried to fix, but could not move it back. Quite frankly, my husband and I did not think it was safe especially if we got into an accident. There was an identical vehicle on the lot, but the manager was not smart enough to trade out the vehicles. She stated that because they were rented for different days, mind you the same vehicle, she could not do that. She stated many people had rented the Jeep in its current unsafe state, but when asked if she thought it was safe would not answer. It is our 10th year anniversary, and both of our birthdays and this was a horrible start to our vacation. I'm so disappointed in this establishment and the customer service we received. Renter beware, you may end up stranded at the Puma gas station with no vehicle. read more

I did not actually rent a car, but when I attempted to reserve one, I received rude customer service. When I first called, the agent simply said "I can't hear you call back" and hung up. Fair enough.I called back and asked what their daily rates were, to which the same agent responded, "we're sold out, that's our daily rate." Seemed unnecessarily contentious. We just got back from Kauai and I would not hesitate renting from them again. We picked up our first car and it started to overheat and they swapped out our car the next day. Now mind you...these are used cars! This is not the brand new Mustang Convertible you'll see a thousand times over. However, these 10 year old cars got me, my wife and two daughters around the entire island without a hitch. We saved over a $1000 from renting at a national chain. With the savings we went on a Zip Line, Na Pali boat tour and surfed up a storm. If driving a nice car on vacation is what you are about you might as well stay home, rent a Benz ( btw, they do have one) and drive around town. Although I was charged for out of hours drop off, the guy guy couldn't make it and texted me to leave the car in the parking, which I did. Then after a few hours he told me that he found some issues with the car. The entire bill for the repairs was exactly the excess. Luckily I was insured but it was a scam. They just wanted to fixed their car and me paying for it. I would totally avoid this company. read more

We rented a van twice during our stay in Waikiki from Jay at Paradise rentals. He was extremely cool and even recommended some places to eat when we told him which beaches we were planning to visit. Paradise rentals is buried right between the resorts and was an easy walk from the Hilton Village. We couldn't even find a car from the big companies online - and we were lucky to find this gem. read more
