We reserved a 2025 blue jeep with one touch sky roof. Spendy, but we counted it as a way to fully enjoy the lush landscape around us. The one touch sky roof feature was absolutely fantastic. We could easily switch between buttoned up and fully open top as we ventured out between rain showers. I highly recommend this car rental option for being able to rent the exact vehicle you want, without having to guess your luck with the phrase "or similar". Cons: Being a unique car rental company, without long lines or disappointments to start your vacation, I will say it took a fair amount of trust to rely on the good word of the company that things would go as promised. There is zero in person contact at pick up or drop off. You pick up and drop off in a deserted parking lot away from the airport, closer to the cruise ships, using a lockbox. The uber ride airport to lot and reversed at the drop off was less than $40 total. We had one person get the car and pick up the others and all luggage. It was not a far distance, but not walkable. Lucky for us the rental was exactly as hoped for and we would repeat the experience if we are lucky enough to visit Kauai in the future. For those wondering why there are no recent (2025) reviews, I'll say there isn't an easy way to leave a review on their website right now.

We arrived at Budget at 1 pm and didn't leave until 4:40 pm. The line is horrendous. There are only 3-4 people at the counters, although they were pleasant. There are not enough workers on the island so it's not their fault. Once we were assigned a car, it took another 40-45 minutes to come out even though people behind me were getting their cars before me. When we got the car, it was not very clean, luckily I had disinfectant wipes to wipe down the interior We found french fries on the floor. The outside was also not very clean. It looked like it went through the car wash but needed it again. I was embarassed to drive it around. Also, when we dropped off, there was no one to accept the car except one person who said we were good. She was trying her best to move all the cars into the lot. I was afraid I was going to get charged for something but luckily I didn't. Never again will I rent from Budget.

She was welcoming, warm, and extremely polite. It was a delight working with her, and her giving some tips I haven't heard of being on Kauai. My only criticism was that the car was definitely not cleaned well enough for my liking. I suppose that's do to turnover... but that will be taken to account. Return of the vehicle was smooth. Uncle on Thursday night was very polite and super funny to talk to. Just great customer service from arrival to departure. I will use SIXT again on Kauai should the same deal pop up for me!

After I returned the car, the staff cleared it during the walk-around. No issues. No mention of damage. Then I disputed the insurance charge and got it refunded. Two days later, I receive an email claiming there's damage to the vehicle. I called to discuss it. The damage department won't speak to customers--apparently that's their policy. When I questioned how suspicious that sounded, the rep laughed and hung up on me. Called back and got a different rep who said the first one left no notes. Now I'm fighting with this company over damage I didn't cause, with no way to actually resolve it. Stay away from this company. Look on Google and see what people say about sixt. It's disgusting.

I asked for leather seats since I have a condition where I have pain with sitting if the seats are not tilted upward and solid like a leather seat. There were only upholstery seats when I went outside to look so I came back inside to talk to Chiobhan. She went and found a leather seated car that had just been returned and said it'll take 15 minutes to clean which we were fine with. When the Mazda CX-50 car came out, we got in and took off but after about a mile or two, I was having pain because the seat was not very good and didn't tilt upward. So we turned around and went back in the parking lot and I was greeted by Alan and told him I'm having pain and I'm willing to upgrade for a better car. As I was heading back to the office, I saw a higher model Mazda CX-90 AWD and sat inside it and it was really nice and the leather seats were more firm and tilted back like I needed. I took a picture of the license plate and told them this is the one I wanted. They said no problem but I need to pay an upgrade for you and I said I'm happy to. Both Chiobhan and Alan we're super friendly and no nonsense and were quick to respond and take care of business with a high-level of customer service and in a very timely manner. I drove away very happy with how I was treated and with the car. Now I'm driving around with a beautiful and comfortable higher level Mazda SUV. I just need to remember next time to order a crossover or premium SUV.
