Reached out to a Find a Contractor website and Quinn Marcel reached back and spoke very highly of Paradise Construction Electric - going against my better judgment of seeking 3 quotes I went with them. The work required was for three soffit lights installed in the 3 peaks of my home. Received quote very quickly with a discount of $50 per light from $400 to $350 per/ light and a very professional scope of work to include insurance information (my requirement was licensed and insured). I thought everything was good and attempted to make first installment. Quinn declined and told me to wait (1st redflag)-weird - who turns down $$$? Tim Eddings arrives on Friday (9/23/22) @4pm to commence work thinking that all I needed was bulbs changed. What?!!! Did you not read your own scope of work? I showed it to him and the cost went up by $450 from $1,113 to $1563. (2nd redflag) . Quinn Marcel is on the phone and states that he (Quinn) doesn't know this type of work - well how can you price it Sir? Once Tim realizes what the work entails, he then reschedules to 9/29/22 and states he will have help. I had already sent a picture of my house to Quinn - not certain if he shared it with Tim. Tim and Moses arrive at my house and ask me, "Do you have the lights?" No I don't - the quote states that you all will provide materials, labor and supplies. Tim then says, okay. I'll go get them - home depot. He comes back with floodlights VS soffit lights. (3rd redflag) . . eventually I'm going to stop counting the flags because there are too many . . SMH! Tim comes back with "acceptable" lights - his partner (Moses) is busy running wires through my attic and there are two hanging out waiting for light installs right now. Scary part(s) - my husband, at work, but calling with questions had me go outside and ask how they plan to seal the holes being drilled into our home to prevent leakage from rain. Tim laughs and tells me that that is not his line of work. Really?! and he proceeds to drill right through the BRICK of my garage which is 2 feet below the peak of where the light is supposed to be. He tells me that he can't reach the peak but didn't ask if this was okay to install the light 2 feet lower than my request and outside the scope of work! I told him this is UNACCEPTABLE and he informs me he needs a taller ladder. My husband tells him, he will pay for the rental of a taller ladder from Home Depot and Tim calls and finds they don't rent them anymore. Today is 9/30/22 and we are expecting the remnants of Hurricane Ian for the next 4 days (rain) so work cannot be completed until next Wednesday (10/05/22). Tim thinks he has another 3-hours of work ahead of him to complete this job. I currently think this job was too big for him and now I cannot reach Quinn Marcel or any other person at their "headquarters". Tim also asked me, if I believed in Conspiracy Theory? What? Not when my home is being hacked and drilled in areas that I cannot see! Very unprofessional. Update: After providing feedback to the contractor, we went in another direction and had the job completed by another contractor within 3 hours and they UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. read more

Tim did a great job earlier this year installing a fan and an electrical outlet in the bathroom of our new house. He was very easy to work with: prompt, courteous, and even replaced the damage venetian blinds in our bathroom. (He told us he wondered whether he had somehow broken them, so he simply fixed them -- even though they were already broken before they arrived. When we offered to pay for the blinds since it wasn't his fault and he'd done us a favor, he insisted on throwing them in for free!) EXCELLENT!!! Based on other reviews, I reached out to Paradise to troubleshoot an issue with flickering (LED) lights. I was shocked when Tim offered to troubleshoot the issue for free, despite estimating it could take 1.5-2 hours. Tim was prompt (even called to let me know he was running a few minutes late), wore a mask (COVID), was courteous, and determined the issue really quickly. He entertained answering all of my electrical questions, came up with the best path forward to resolving the flicking light issue, and provided a very reasonable quote for the necessary repairs. I will definitely be having him complete the work soon! It is hard to find tradespeople like Tim in DC; available, knowledgeable, friendly, and, most importantly, a professional who takes pride in his work. Paradise fixed my power fluctuation issue over the phone! After a few minutes on the phone, he asked me to do some diagnostic tests and said he would call back in 15 minutes. The diagnostics led me to reset the breaker and that fixed the issue. And as he said, he called back in 15 minutes. Great service. Will definitely call again. read more

It can be so frustrating to find people who show up when they say will and approach the job honestly. Tim was prompt in responding to my inquiry and showed up on time. In addition his price was the most reasonable of all the electricians I searched. He also cleaned up the dust from the job and went himself to purchase the needed equipment. We had the great pleasure of working with Tim from Paradise Construction. He was an expert electrician who performed the work we required (adding three outlets to a wall without electricity in our basement) professionally. Tim was also very creative in his approach and, although we have some knowledge of electricity, he saved us money by suggesting and improving on our existing equipment. We have owned our home over 30 years and Tim was able to resolve a light switch problem we have had for many year where several other electricians failed. They do all sorts of things, apparently, from minor changes in your apartment, to an overhaul of your wirings. They even set it up if you are constructing a new house, which was the case for my mother last week. They are one of the least expensive ones in the area. read more

Tim is a master electrician who guarantees all his work and has top notch customer service, practical insights, and very reasonable prices (the best out there, and I called around). When Tim says he'll come back to follow-up, he'll come back (even if it's after hours or on weekends). He'll even come back when the delays were my fault and not charge me extra. No empty promises from Tim. I've had Tim rewire my entire 100+ year old DC rowhouse (originally wired under the "homeowner's special, i.e. wrong and a fire hazard), fix electrical issues at my rental properties, and embark on lots of small projects. If I detailed all of my electrical issues and surprises (and how Tim fixed them), this review would be several pages long. I have Tim's contact info saved on my phone, and constantly text him photos and questions, which is so helpful when you're not in town and have tenants calling you up with issues. Tim responds immediately, and if the issues can't be resolved over text, offers to stop by, often free of visitation charges. He really takes the fear out of calling up expensive electricians to figure out whether you have an electrical or appliance issue. I even ask Tim non-electrical questions, like how to patch a wall. With Tim's laid back and personable attitude and great sense of humor, he is like the family electrician offering good ol' fashion customer service that you just don't see anymore. I called on a Sunday....and didn't get voice mail!! Wow! Then I explained to the gentleman the electrical issue and within a minute he told me what the likely culprit was and how to fix it. With his advice I was able to quickly resolve the issue, which could have caused an electrical fire. Then he came out the next day to make sure any residual problems or risks were addressed. read more
