I had an extremely unprofessional and frankly shocking experience with Harris Electric. I contacted Electrum for a quote to install a Tesla wall charger, and the job was outsourced to Harris Electric. When I spoke with Mike at Harris Electric to ask about pricing (his quote came bake at 2.5k for a simple install), I explained how I measured the wire distance and noted that I had received three other quotes from Tesla-certified/recommended electricians that were all over $1,000 less. Instead of addressing my questions professionally, Mike quickly became argumentative. He repeated the same explanation multiple times without really engaging with my concerns. When I attempted to interject and state that I was no longer interested due to both the cost and the tone of the interaction, he raised his voice, used profanity, and ultimately called me a "f***ing clown." There is no reason for that, and no reason for Mike to speak to me the way that he did. The situation escalated further when he began bringing up religion and pushing Jesus into the conversation despite me clearly indicating I was not interested. I ended the call, but he proceeded to call me back multiple times continuing to argue, repeat himself, and boast about his "good reviews" as if that would change how he treated me. At no point was there any meaningful attempt to handle the situation professionally, aside from a few disingenuous "I'm sorry" comments while continuing to speak to me in the same manner. I have never experienced this level of hostility from a contractor. Based on this interaction, I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. Especially when there are so many other Tesla-certified electricians in the area who are far more professional. No one should be subjected to profanity, personal insults, or unwanted religious discussion when simply trying to obtain a quote and do business. read more

Expert electrician. I needed a Level 2 charger installed in my garage for my new Rav4 plug-in hybrid, and I wanted it installed asap. I hired Max from Harris Electric for a couple of projects. First, he helped my old apartment be up to code standards by installing outlets in my 2 bathrooms. He even told me a cheaper way was to install a switch that acted as both the light switch and an outlet. He inspected, picked up gcfi outlets, started work, and finished all within 1-2 hours of initial visit. Saved me money, time, and prevented me from hiring a separate contractor to fix up potential holes in the wall. Second, he set up my 2 video doorbells in the new home I moved to. The doorbells in front and back did not have enough power to run video doorbells so Max was able to set them up for it. I actually had an issue with my front doorbell so after he set up, I got a replacement from Amazon and he came back free of charge to finish the job. I called Harris Electric after I put a drill into the power line for my heat pump. It was a Sunday and Mr. Harris answered the phone. After explaining what had happened he first asked if I was okay and then walked me through all the work that would potentially need to occur. He didn't have anyone available, said he couldn't be around until 6 PM, and because of hazards associated with the issue encouraged me to try another electrician. He asked me to call him back if I found someone else, which I did. Mr. Harris missed my voicemail, but stopped by between his own calls to see if he could help. Although, I didn't use his service, these actions spoke volumes and I hope to consider him in the future. read more

UPDATE: After I posted this review, Mr. Harris emailed me twice, calling me, "Fag" in the second one. Wow. ---- Mr. Harris and I agreed on a price for work to be done, but due to his mistakes, he did not complete the work properly. Additionally, he and/or his worker caused property damage in the process. And, Mr. Harris failed to respond to multiple emails from me afterward about those problems. The long version: I found Mr. Harris via Thumbtack in December of 2015. I wanted a new ceiling fan with remote installed in my bedroom. His estimate for labor and materials, fan excluded, was $250, and he promised, "I assure you that the installation will turn out beautiful." Mr. Harris came on December 15, 2015 to examine the job. He informed me that he would need to cut holes in the drywall to run the wiring. The next day, Mr. Harris came with another person to perform the installation. He was here for a couple hours but did not get the remote working. He said he needed to go to another job, but that he would come back later that evening to finish. After they left, I was dismayed to see that they cut no fewer than EIGHT separate holes in the drywall to go a short distance. More holes means more patches, requiring more time and/or money. Mr. Harris came back that night with a couple different workers but was still were unable to get the remote functioning. He concluded that either the transceiver or the remote was "defective." I believed him and paid him. He told me that once I got another remote, he could return, but I would be charged a separate service call. Later that night, I noticed other things that Mr. Harris and/or his worker did including: * Cutting the wire mold (the metal track enclosing the wire running from the wall to the fan) nearly an inch short of the wall itself * Damaging my hardwood floors that had been installed just 3 months prior * Leaving scuff marks on the ceiling, which had been freshly painted just 4 months prior * Setting the fan on a panel for brand new kitchen cabinets that hadn't even been installed yet--damaging it in the process (which fortunately didn't matter as this panel was being returned) I'm including pictures of all these things. I should have said something at the time, but the damage was done, and frankly, I didn't want to rock the boat before Mr. Harris came out again. The next morning, I noticed the DIP switches were in the opposite directions on the transceiver and the remote. I knew that this basic mistake could easily explain why the remote didn't appear to work. I sent Mr. Harris a message letting him know this and stating that I would get a second remote "just in case." He did not reply about the DIP switches. If it were me, I would have sent an apologetic reply and promised to make it right without any additional charge. I obtained a second remote, but we had trouble scheduling due to his other jobs, and then we ran into the holidays. And, over time, I felt more frustrated about everything. So, when another electrician was in my place for my kitchen renovation, I paid him to take care of the issues rather than face Mr. Harris's minimum service call charges. And guess what? He tried first with the original transceiver and remote, and THEY WORKED PERFECTLY. Mr. Harris had told me--incorrectly--that the apparatus was "defective." Had I not worked with this other electrician, I would have been on the hook to pay Mr. Harris more to do something he should have done the first time. This electrician also went to the local hardware store himself to purchase different screws (since he told me that drywall rather than sheet metal screws had been used). And, he stated that while 8 holes had been cut in the wall, he could have fished the wires behind the wall and cut no more than 4. I also had him replace the wire mold with a new piece (that I bought at my own expense) that he made flush with the wall. I emailed Mr. Harris on February 4, 2016 letting him know all these things. I stated that I believed some compensation was in order and that I hoped we could come to an agreement. Mr. Harris did not reply. I emailed him again on February 11, 2016. Again, no reply. I emailed a final time on February 19. Again, no reply. So, on February 27, 2016, I filed a dispute with my credit card company. And behold! Mr. Harris responded to that. He sent my credit card company a copy of the invoice and one of our email correspondences from December--neither of which addressed my issues. He also sent them a picture of a fan. Not MY fan. Some other random fan--not even the same model. Weird. Bottom line: if I hire a licensed electrician, I should not be told that my equipment is "defective" when the problem is electrician error. And, while Mr. Harris promised "the installation will turn out beautiful"...well, you look at the pictures. The failure to respond to THREE separate emails each a week apart speaks volumes. Needless to say, I would not hire Mr. Harris again. read more

Mr. Harris communicated well in scheduling and prior to arriving. He was able to accommodate the date I needed with a rather short timeline. I thought I needed 4 new GFCI installed but he was honest and showed me that the sockets in question were connected to other GFCI. Circuit was completely protected. I found this company via a Yelp search for an electric company near me. Fortunately Yelp allows us to fill out a form to request whatever service desired and people from the particular service industry can respond to earn new business. I put out the search and on the form I indicated that Sears came to my home and told me that the reason my fuse keeps blowing when we use our dryer is because I don't have enough voltage to keep it going. Therefore, I requested a soft estimate. Just a general ballpark number. Approximately 7 companies responded. Harris Electric is the only one that gave me the estimate that I requested----which they stuck to upon fixing the problem. Highly recommended. I'll be using them again. read more

Wonderful professionals. On time, gave me about 15 minutes notice before arriving. Max had to hunt down a problem on a hall light that has three switches. It was a lot of up and down the stairs to get to the root of the problem but he didn't give up. He was patient answering my questions and cleaned up the small bit of dust that resulted from his work.
