Luis is quite the knowledgeable electrician, but what I want to highlight in this review is his integrity, which in my opinion is the most important aspect in working with someone. After some initial miscommunications about the job, things didn't quite turn out the way I hoped, but Luis, the company owner came out himself to make sure things were resolved. And even though the scope of the project increased, he insisted on completing the job at the original rate (although I'm not going to let him, because the scope had increased substantially, and that is clearly my own doing). When working with someone new, it's always a toss up on how things will go when unexpected difficulties arise, and I'm very pleased in how Luis does business. Six-stars! UPDATE: the job is done and we are awaiting inspection this week. The pictures speak for themselves. We are extremely satisfied with our Tesla Wall connector Gen 3 installation. Luis went up and over our garage with EMT to get to the nearby panel. He had to upgrade a breaker to a double pole 60A breaker and also had to update the breaker that goes to the subpanel in the main panel to 100A. Tesla had sent us a bad wall connector the first time around and advised us remotely that the electrical work done was perfect and that all power levels were as expected. Luis insisted on coming out himself anyhow to double check everything even though I assured him it was Teslas wall connector. Sure enough the wiring was perfect and when the new wall connector arrived I popped it on and everything worked like magic. read more

Excellent communication and initially a fair estimate. However, the following day the technician arrived an hour late to do the work. I was quoted $200 to install a Blink Wired Floodlight Camera and Blink Video Doorbell. Then, upon realizing there was no power to the light switch, the technician just left my old wires exposed after removing the old outdoor light fixture. Just moved in, so I wasn't sure what was going on with that switch. So I asked if he could fix it, while he was here. His response was "he had to call his boss to get an estimate and that it had to be done another day because it was too late." At this point the technician offered to install the Blink Video Doorbell for $100. I guess in his mind, it was half the work, so half the price... Again, I was given an estimate in person, the day before for installation of both. The Video Doorbell is maybe 1/8th of an inch off center. He did a decent enough job. For $100 to drill two holes, I would've liked it dead center. Then the next morning I received an email with an estimate for $525, to fix the power and install the floodlight. read more

I called him, and he said his electrician would be here between 10-12. He apologized for the oversight, and said he'd do the work for free. Five minutes later, he called back and said, "I don't want to work for you. Leave a bad review." (It was hard to understand him because of all the background noise.) So I'm doing just that. I had an excellent experience with Luis & James Electric, and particularly with their electrician who serviced my home, Arnold, who is a wonderful electrician and a true professional, and is the best home repair professional who has ever done work for me--I highly recommend him! Arnold is detail-oriented, safety-focused, knowledgeable, honest, polite, and thoroughly answered all of my questions and educated me on what he was doing. In a single afternoon, he inspected and brought up to code all the wall outlets in my home, changed an outlet and breaker switch to match, and installed two dimmer switches, a new LED wall sconce, and a new GFCI outlet, with all of this after going to Home Depot and getting all the needed supplies! we worked with Luis & James Electric to upgrade our very old electrical panel and move the power meter outdoors (required by Pepco/current code). Arnold came and looked at the work, gave us a reasonable quote, and made me feel good about working with the company. their quote was much less than other "big name" (M&Son) local companies that are waaay overcharging people for the exact same work. the crew showed up on time as scheduled, did the work as described, cleaned up afterwards, and were very responsive to follow up questions when we had to deal with Pepco to finish the meter move. we'll be using Luis & James for all our future residential electrical work, and you should, too! read more

Update on 4/6/23: Luis & James honored their 1-year warranty on labor & sent over a team to fix one of the 3 ceiling fans they installed last July. It seems like one of the ceiling fans came slightly loose (when I reversed directions) & began making a loud clattering sound when it spun. I texted Luis & James at 10pm the night before & the team showed up on my doorstep at 11am the next day & fixed the issue by removing the light kit and tightening the fan contacts with the ceiling. Excellent service and above & beyond what I expected. I will definitely be recommending Luis & James to all my friends & will use them for any future electrical projects on the house. Our experience with Luis&James was a first for us in DC in the best possible way! A few Saturday nights ago, we were having an issue with no power getting to our bedroom after having replaced a ceiling fan wall switch. We tried to troubleshoot ourselves including checking the breaker and GFCI outlet in the ensuite bathroom, but no luck. I called Luis&James and they said they could come by in an hour or two and gave me a reasonable estimate for the job. They showed up promptly and immediately got to work, wearing shoe covers to ensure they didn't bring in dirt or damage our wood floors. They systematically went through all the possible sources of the problem, while talking me through what they were doing, and it soon became clear that the fix was simple: a GFCI outlet in _another_ bathroom had tripped - we hadn't even thought to look there. Once we reset the GFCI, everything worked just fine. Even though this was an easy fix, we were grateful for Luis&James' detective work to solve the problem. When I went to pay them, however, they wouldn't accept it! Mind you, this was a Saturday night job that took at least 2 hours of their time once you factor in commute. We've had several people work on our house over the years and I've never had someone turn down a payment, let alone after doing a great job. In this sense, Luis&James are a special company. I hired this company to replace two bathroom exhaust fans. They warned me beforehand that they do not patch holes in ceilings which should have been a red flag. I acknowledged this but simply asked that they let me know if they'd need to damage the ceiling before taking that step so that I could consider other options such as getting different fans or a different company. They ignored this request and knocked a huge chunk out of the ceiling which they naturally refused to fix. So now I'm stuck paying twice as much to someone else to fix the damage this company did. What I will say is thus far the work performed is good. But everything leading up to that was not. I was quoted $150 on Yelp for the work that was needed, but then the price increased by $50 once I talked to the owner over the phone. We decided on Friday 7/29 and I was told that this work needed to be done before 3pm. I said ok, I would be home and I told them to contact me when they were on the way. Imagine my surprised when they showed up at 4:30pm with no contact all day! There were 3 things that I needed: A ceiling fan assembled and installed, a smoke detector installed and a light bulb replaced outside of the building. The first 2 were done with no problem, but the light bulb replacement wasn't communicated to the workers and I had to provide the bulb! I probably won't use this company again. read more

So my experience with this company was just bizarre! Very similar to one of the other reviewer. Called early afternoon for an electrical issue, I was told they could send someone that same day ( which I never requested, they offered). Proceeded to give me a window of arrival. No one showed up. I called back and they acted like they didn't even know what I was talking about. I asked them if the technician would still come and they said no in the most nonchalant way. They then said they would send someone els the next day in the morning. Well, as you might have guessed : They didn't show up. no call, no nothing. Just bizarre. It is quite a shame the lack of decency and common courtesy with which they operate. Absolutely no respect at all. There is truly no need to accept clients and make them wait for you for hours TWICE, when you have no intention of showing up. Just don't pick up the phone or let us know you are busy. The man who answered the phone told me he could send someone out within the hour, so I said, "Ok." 6:07 PM / TUESDAY An hour and a half later still no electrician and no notification about any delay. I don't think I would've worked with this company even if the discount were 90%. 7:49 AM / WEDNESDAY Doorbell rang. I suspected it was the electrician so I looked out the window and saw an unmarked vehicle with a ladder on it. I ignored the doorbell, hoping the guy would go away. 7:50 AM / WEDNESDAY Doorbell rang again. I again ignored it. It rang again . . . and again . . . and again. Finally I went down and yelled through the door for him to go away. He said he was the electrician. I told him I canceled the appointment. He still tried to keep talking. I again told him to go away. Seemed to not be comfortable doing work that other trusted master electricians did not see as a problem. Unfortunately I did not have the good experience that other reviewers had. The first time I had them do some wiring from outside the house to inside. Instead of measuring where to drill holes through the outside wall, they just started drilling, and it took them 3 tries to get it, leaving a couple extra ugly holes on the outside of my house, which they wouldn't even paint to match the color. Otherwise that time wasn't so bad, so I called them next time when an outlet in my house caught on fire. I was happy they sent somebody out right away, but after doing a test on only the burnt outlet, he concluded our house had no ground connection. I told him this couldn't possibly be, but he said he tested the (now broken) outlet and looked outside for 30 seconds and didn't see a pole in the ground, so there's no way we could have ground. He then got his boss on the phone to try to convince me. I asked him to test any other outlet in the house, and it passed the test, showing we had ground. He then told me again we needed the ground connection and it'll cost $1000. At that point I really couldn't believe it so thanked him for his help and asked him to leave. I got another electrician out and asked him if it's possible my house had no ground connection, and he looked at me like I was crazy, and explained the real issue with the outlet. read more
