I have a really hearty, big dog. And I also understand that a kennel is a kennel and there are a lot of dogs to keep an eye on. My husband left our pooch there and we left for 3 nights. When I returned to get him yesterday, I didn't see any dogs playing-- just barking, barking, barking. On the way home, I noticed he was bitten on his eye, with blood slowly oozing out of his tear duct and a puncture above and below his eye socket. He had diarrhea and the blood turned into pus coming out of his eye. Last night he threw up in the middle of the night and today, lots of farting but he seems to be holding the food down. I put some anti-microbial stuff in his eye and that seems to be getting better. Maybe going to the vet later, not sure yet. They charge extra to feed your dog his own food, so we went with their food and that is probably why he's having some gastro-intestinal activity, but the bite on the eye? I"ll be looking for another option next time we need to leave him. read more

We've mostly had great experiences at Paradise for Pets and our dog loves it. She gets very excited when she realizes she's on her way to play with friends. This is our go-to for vacations or when we want to give our dog a day to play with other dogs. We have a very active dog so outdoor play with other dogs is a good fit for her as she needs to expend her unlimited amount of energy. On top of that, she truly enjoys it. My recommendation is to prepare to have your dog returned a little dirty. We've ordered baths in the past but prefer another vendor for that matter. read more

I would not recommend this place for other pet owners. Our six year old kelpie (35 pounds) came home with a puncture wound (scabbed over and bleeding) after a weekend stay. The staff could not explain what happened or even what day the injury occurred over the four that Mars stayed. We were told that injuries happen when both my husband and I followed up. We have taken our puppy to daycare for years at another location (Good Doggie Daycare) and never had any issue but needed a new place after we moved to Columbia. read more

We still love Paradise for Pets! We always feel confident leaving our little guy here. Even years later, he still comes home exhausted. Considering the fact he is a pretty hype dog, that says a lot! During our last stay, we were concerned leaving him as he had a slight limp right before we had to leave. Our vet said to minimize his play. But how do you do that for a hyper dog going to a kennel for a week? Our dog loves going to Paradise for Pets. Before the pandemic she would go weekly. When we drove up to the gate last week she got so excited. Even after a year away she recognized and was ready to play at Paradise for Pets. They are not the fanciest operation but they are top notch on safety, care, and attention. I always know my pup dog will be safe, happy, and cared for. This is also an excellent place if you need to board on the weekends - they are open Sunday which warms my pocketbook. I took my 7 month old German shepherd, Loki back in March for the first time due to a recommendation from a dog walker. Once he was home I notice he had his front leg all scratched up and was limping. I immediately call the daycare, they couldn't say what exactly happened to Loki. Until someone named Jonathan reached out to me more in detailed about could've possibly happened and accidents happen, to also give a call to the vet. Which makes no sense, I'm now suppose to also take the time to take my dog to the vet because of their fault that they don't have adequate supervision for dogs. Fast forward to yesterday, I decided to take my dog back and give them one more try. Once again I got home and noticed Loki limping. I will definitely not be taking my dog back. They should have more supervision to notice if anything is wrong with your dog. read more

They lost our dog. They removed both our dogs from the secured area with no collars on. One dog became extremely sick, the other has been missing for over 100 days. While their manager initially tried to help us, his lack of communication + attention to detail cost us valuable time. The owners of the business never contacted us once. At this point, I would never in good conscience recommend this business to anyone. read more

Our puggle Maddie recently had her first visit to Paradise for Pets and stayed for several nights while we were away. Maddie has separation anxiety and requires daily medication to manage her anxiety. Paradise for Pets was outstanding at dispensing her meds each day as well as providing her usual food from home (for a small fee). We received daily updates with photos via email which helped give us peace of mind. Maddie seemed to definitely enjoy herself and spent 2 full days resting after she got home. The staff also accommodated her needs when she needed some quiet time to rest and allowed her to take a short break in the office with them where she curled up for a nap. She was matched with a play group of similar size and temperament shortly after arriving and they were her buddies for her stay. When we visited to drop off and pick up the grounds were very well-secured and clean. The staff was friendly and inviting. Jonathan, the manager, was incredibly patient and answered every single question I had before we set up her stay there. Each of the workers who we interacted with spoke about how great Maddie was while she was there and handled her insane response to us arriving to pick her up quite well! read more

This place changed my life. Seriously. Pet parents you know how hard it is to leave your pups when you have to travel. Well this place has changed that. I have a large dog who loves to play, needs loads of exercise, hates being crated and likes to be outside especially in very cold weather. When I pull up to Paradise for Pets, my pup starts to howl and bark. He is so excited he drags me to the entrance gate. He kisses all the staff and goes off with them without a backwards glance at me. When I pick him up, he's always happy and a little worn out from all the playing. I got his best pup pal to try out Paradise for Pets and she's hooked too. I've started traveling for work and vacation again but without all the guilt and worry. P4P was great! Our dog Molly just had her first boarding experience here, 4 nights. When I originally booked, I spoke with a staff person on the phone and explained some particulars about our dog, mostly that she can be reactive and snap at strangers and may be tough with the staff and doesn't do great with very active and persistent dogs. The staff person assured me they would be able to handle her and that they would try to pair her with a calmer dog for the boarding and would move her to a single area if she seemed stressed. We arrived to drop her off and I was impressed that the person working the desk at the time already seemed to have read those comments on notes in her file and they were careful to not initiate approaching her as I recommended on the phone. Four days later we are returning from a trip and ready to pick her up. We arrived right at 7 and Molly was actually out interacting with the staff and running around. Their outside kennel areas seem a great way to keep the dogs in fresh air. The team briefed me on her stay and that she had successfully shared a space with an older dog and they got along well without any issues. The staff said she warmed up to them in time and they were even able to give her a bath on the last day! To top it all off, we got a night of boarding for free since we were new clients! We will definitely have P4P as our go to boarding option for Molly moving ahead! Will recommend to my other fellow dog owners. read more

I've taken my Boston Terrier(still in puppy phase) and have not had any problems. She is a very active dog and I appreciate that she has the opportunity to socialize with other dogs of her activity level and size. The staff are friendly and it's never a problem to extend her stay. I appreciate the shaded outdoor spaces for the dogs and that they are not confined indoors all day and can run/play outside. My dog is stuck here! I went to Paradise for Pets because of great reviews on yelp and a good location for my husband's work. But their website, and yelp, claim that they are open until 7:00 pm on Fridays. But when my husband went to pick our dog up today after work they are CLOSED and NO ONE WILL ANSWER THE PHONE OR EMAIL. We recently adopted our Mia from the pound and the last thing I want is for her to think that she was abandoned again. This is absolutely unacceptable, especially since she was there on Tuesday and when my husband dropped her off nothing was said to him regarding a different pickup time. BTW - if Paradise for Pets is reading this. CALL MIA's FAMILY. THEY WANT HER BACK. UPDATE: Revised to 3 stars. We got a call from them after I wrote this review letting us know that they are orthodox and so don't work on the Sabbath, but they told us how to get our dog out that night and called to apologize first thing Sunday morning. I'm still a little stung, but happy with how they handled the situation. Just be aware that they are technically not reachable Friday night or on Saturday. read more

Their negligence killed our healthy dog! On July 30th, 2015 my husband took Lobo, our healthy 5 y/o Old English Bulldog, to this kennel b/c we were going out of town. He was dropped off at 8:30am. We received a call from the manager at 2:30pm, stating that Lobo was DEAD! We were FUMING MAD because was a muscular 83lb dog who had a vet visit 3 weeks prior and had a clean bill of health.Turns out, they left him outside to play IN THE HEAT WITH NO SHADE for 3 hrs and didn't check on him. That day was humid, heat index well into the 90s. By the time they decided to rush him to the vet he was DEAD! The vet intubated him but couldn't revive him, his temperature was 106.3. They were egregiously neglectful, and when asked how he planned to compensate us for this unexpected tragic loss, the owner said "I hadn't though about compensating you at all." We obviously got a lawyer, but unfortunately the state of MD views dogs as property and not beloved members of the family. So both the owner and his insurance company were extremely rigid with their offer of compensation. I just want to put our story out there so that no one else goes through what we went through. We bought Lobo from our best friends and were in his life (literally) from the day he was born. He was a great family dog and had a beautiful personality. He will forever be missed. Please be careful if you still decide to use this place for your four legged family. My husband and were hurt and enraged at their lack of compassion and cavalier attitude about the blatant mistakes that THEY MADE!! It's THEIR JOB to know the special needs that certain breeds have. If you're a dog lover you know bulldogs shouldn't be out in the heat for long (if at all!) b/c they are susceptible to heat stroke! On top of the fact that it's just common sense for humans to limit the amount of time we're outside on a humid day(especially while doing activities). So why didn't they watch our baby Lobo? Why did they have him outside at all, it was well over 90 degrees that day! Where they short staffed, or did they just think "he'll be ok"? We'll never know the answers to these questions. But what we do know is, IF we decide to get another dog, he will NEVER EVER EVER SET FOOT IN THAT KENNEL!!! I DON'T TRUST THEM TO KEEP MY PET SAFE!! I hope this review was helpful to someone who's considering a kennel. We've used this kennel before with Lobo years ago and he came back with some cysts on his feet and ears. But after this experience, we'll make sure to leave our dog with the vet. They have a kennel attached to it and probably would be able to help much sooner if something bad happens. We still miss our buddy Lobo so much, no dog will replace him. He was like our son and it was really really hard for me to even write this review. I had to relive some painful memories that I've tried to bury. I wanted to give this kennel 0 stars, but evidently I have to select at least one in order to even post my review. Summary: An excellent place to leave your dog. Worth driving a little extra out of your way for a happy dog! Dog's review: Usually, after any seperation from me, my dog is all over me. The last two times I've picked him up, I had to drag/carry him out. He wanted to stay! And when I left him, he willingly followed the staff to his spot...doesn't even look back at me (ouch!). When I get him home he usually sleeps for a day or two out of exhaustion. When I left him for a week, he became lean with muscle (in a good way...like he was training for an event). Other places were stressful for my dog: I've boarded my dog at many different boarding locations over the years...each with its own "hook." My dog is rather attached to me and usually gets very stressed when I leave him. He usually bounds up to me when I return like a convict who just completed a 40 year term (seriously, I only leave him for the occasional weekend). At the other places he would often come home sick from stress. My dog LOVES Paradise for Pets! I asked friends about dog boarding places and one of them recommended P4P. I went and checked it out...and it was a place I would not mind staying myself (well...if the cuisine was more than kibble). Day life: During the day the dogs run and play with groups of other dogs of similar size and personality. The staff seem pretty attentive and change the dog's group if needed. I think my dog started in a young small dog group and now, because he is a geezer, is usually with older dogs. My dog is not a huge fan of dog parks...he tolerates them but does not get excited about them. But it seems that he enjoyed the outdoor time there. Outdoor areas: Are pretty good size with shade and sun. Seem clean and well-maintained. Night life: (Sounds more exciting than it is). I toured the inside runs before leaving my dog. The runs are by far the largest I've ever seen for boarding. They have an "indoor area" with a little cot-like bed and dogs are free to go through a little door to the "outdoor area" (which is technically inside the building but allows for the dogs to do their business away from their sleeping room if they need during the night). Everything was very clean when I toured the area. My understanding is that each dog gets his/her own run at night. Other amenities: The dogs get fed twice a day. Can get a bath for a reasonable price (worth it after a few days of running around). They also do dog daycare. Cost: Very competetive with other boarding places. read more

Paradise for Pets is located in a remote, peaceful area with large outdoor runs for the dogs. I was initially concerned about my dog being kept outside all day in the summer, but the area is very shady and stays pretty cool. The dogs have plenty of space to play and interact with each other. The staff are professional and organized and clearly love the animals they take care of. My dog is a bit shy, and from a distance, as I was leaving, I saw the manager take extra time to crouch down and soothe her before putting her into the run with other dogs. The big con for me, and the reason this is a 3-star review instead of 5, is the hours. P4P has no Saturday hours whatsoever (meaning you can neither pick up nor drop off your dog). This makes very little sense, considering that many people leave for or return from vacations on Saturdays. It closes at 7:00 pm on every other night. Coming from downtown DC on a weekday, it can be pretty much impossible to get to Beltsville by 7:00. There is an option for late pickup (+$10 per 15 min) but only if the staff agree to stay late (which is a long shot). On a recent occasion, a late flight meant that I couldn't make it to P4P until 7:30. The staff person didn't agree to stay late, so I was out of options. Having just gotten back from a trip, I really missed my dog, and it was incredibly frustrating to be told that I couldn't pick her up until 8:00 the next morning. I understand that P4P has to be strict about its hours, or suddenly people will be showing up at 2:00 am, but 7:30 on a Monday night is hardly an outrageous time to expect access to my dog, especially considering that I was willing to pay quite a bit extra. read more

I am perplexed right now as I researched and read how awesome this facility was and their staff. However I must say the workers were very helpful and patient as it was our very first time leaving out baby in the care of strangers. To my surprise the owner of the establishment arrived as we were checking out and displayed nothing but a rude demeanor by interrupting our conversation and to top it off was in our presence twice and not once did he say hello or thank you for your business. Not to my surprise were the wonderful comments and reviews left by patrons unlike myself (African American). It is my duty to report and shed light on the subtleties of racism. I will not patronage and or hand over my money to a company that allows that level of rudeness and disrespect. That was the first and last time. read more

We have been boarding our dogs here for a few years now and have never had a problem. Unfortunately, one of our dogs got sick right after being at this kennel two weeks ago when we boarded them for a long weeked. We had to take our dog to the vet to get meds and shots, and then our other dog got sick as well, so we also had to give her meds. It was quite expensive- 3 nights of boarding, plus $180 in vet costs. This might have been a bug from another dog that our dog caught, and might not be from the kennel itself. However, we are pretty annoyed and will be looking into petsitters and dogwalkers when we need to go out of town again. Also, After being regular customers for several years, we finally recieved a $10 discount- this isn't enough when our two dogs cost over $80/night. We always have to get the dogs groomed after being boarded here because they get so dirty. 2 stars for the boarding expense (fairly high) and having sick dogs. read more

We have boarded our first and now our second pup (Dexter) at Paradise for Pets over the past 12 years. Their facility is unusual in our experience by having large areas in which dogs are separated in groups with those of similar size and personality. There is plenty of space with the option of air conditioned parts inside. Our dogs have always settled in and been happy and relaxed to be there. The staff is pleasant , cooperative, and obviously love the animals under their care. We are grateful to have access to this facility and do not worry about our pets' welfare. We know they are receiving excellent care and valuable socialization opportunities with other dogs while there. read more

We border our somewhat particular Chesapeake Bay Retriever here for 5 weeks in March / April and it was a great experience. The place has a homegrown feel which is actually a plus. The things we liked about it were: 1) they really seem to know and care about the dogs, 2) The dogs are in really large outdoor runs in small groups all day long; 3) they pair up dogs that are socialized to handle it; and 4) the dogs are treated with care and respect. We had done a lot of shopping around since we were going to board our Chessie for such a long time, and this was the only place we found that allowed the dogs to be outside for hours and hours rather than 15 or 20 minutes twice a day. When we picked our dog up, she was healthy and happy. It also took her a couple of days to recover from the nearly constant activity she had while we were gone. I highly recommend this place and we have used them again for an overnight as well. read more

Our dog, Willie, is what we affectionately call a "dog's dog." He would much rather be romping with other four-footed friends than meeting new two-footed pals and isn't afraid to use his big bark to tell you so. When we found Paradise for Pets, it seemed too good to be true- a place where Willie would have plenty of new friends and people who are comfortable with some of his more anti-social tendencies? We left him for an extended stay and just picked him up. Judging by the exhaustion and cloud of dirt, he had the time of his life and we couldn't be more grateful to the staff who cared for him. Well, I stopped going to Paradise for Pets about 2 yrs ago because of some disturbing things that went on with my dog. I brought my dog here for several years since 2004 about 2 or 3 times a year when I visited relatives for holidays. It seemed really nice and the shady outdoor runs looked like fun for the dogs. The following is a list of a few occasions that stand out when I decided to cut my vacations early and pick up my dog ahead of time: On one occasion there was no one around AT ALL DURING pick up time so I waited 30 min and no one showed up even when I called from my cell phone. I came on another visit and asked if I could see the runs (they obliged) and I saw my dog sitting outside with absolutely no water container in sight and its during the mid day in summer (I previously told them on many occasions my dog drinks a lot in the summer so she must have at least access to SOME water). There was the time she had a bloody muzzle but I didn't notice it till we were in the car. And then the cake topper, I came to pick her up one visit and the man in charge couldn't remember where my dog was even though we were regular clients. He has to walk me through the kennels to find her and she is stuffed into a 5' x 4' kennel with 4 other dogs that are the same breed as her. I ask the guy is this where she was kept the whole 3 days I was gone and he said yes. Not only were all the indoor kennels packed with 3-4 dogs each (it was the holidays and they maxed each kennel for $) but there was no visible water bowls in them and the place was filthy. I remind you I took my dog there for several years and the last year was when I really took notice of their habits. I started to feel anxiety because my dog seemed afraid to go back all the time. Now I'm not a fanatic like PETA, but people, make sure you take the time to check out the indoor kennels and outdoor runs on occasion at any animal boarding facility because it tells you a lot about the actual care of your pet. Paradise without Pets doesn't look bad from the outside but it took me several years before I realized that places aren't always what they seem. And my dog (is a small breed) use to run to my car and wait for me to open the door when I picked her up (how self absorbed was I and didn't notice she was dying to leave that place). I now take my dog to a private facility where they keep the dogs in their home which is very clean and give individual attention (because they take a smaller number and refuse you if its full) and yes she does seem more at ease at this new place. read more

We boarded our very energetic 2 year old dog here recently. For about a week. They did a terrific job. He had a HUGE play area, which he shared with another high energy dog about his size. It was outside, with a spacious dog house. Overnight and in bad weather they took them inside. But the whole idea of having a huge area for them to romp and play all day was terrific, and far better for me then most DC area facilities when put them in tiny indoor cages and only allow them a play area with other dogs for an hour or two (which you pay extra for, and is often indoors in a fairly sterile environment). They are set up so that similar dogs get grouped together. The bill ended up being less than half what it would be at one of the other facilities in the area, and my dog came back to me very tired from constant playing, which is exactly what I wanted. For those complaining about their Friday evening and Saturday hours, the owners are Orthodox Jews. They make it very clear when you bring your dog that they observe the Sabbath. For those of you unfamiliar with Orthodox Judaism, that means NO work on the Sabbath. They take it pretty seriously. Taking off stars on a Yelp review because they refuse to break the Sabbath for you is sortof terrible. read more

We've used this place twice now. Big bonus is the outside pen areas are pretty much huge, by DC-area dog boarding standards. Our very high energy puppy can get a ton of exercise, so he returns to us worn out, which is exactly what we want. Staff has always been very friendly and helpful. Place has always been well kept and clean. When getting there you go through a weird little subdivision. You may think you are lost. You aren't. Paradise For Pets is sortof stuck on in the back of the subdivision area. I don't quite get the Yelpers dinging these folks for being closed on Saturday. The owners are observant Jews. Their religion forbids them from certain types of labor on Saturday. Both times I've been there they took pains to explain this to me. read more

The staff fed our dogs the special food we brought, and gave them so much attention that when we went to pick them up one of our dogs kept running to them instead of us! To date this is my favorite dog boarding place for my Labrador Retriever! Vast amounts of space outdoors with other similar large breed dogs. Reasonable prices & they sleep together in an indoor run. This place has been the biggest blessing. Our dog, 5 month puppy, absolutely loves it and can not wait to get out of the car. Whenever he sees the staff member who is working he sprints to them! They seem to truly care about the dogs and always remember the names and the owner. Extremely reasonable. I always use Paradise for Pets whenever I go out of town and cannot bring my 6 year old Jack Russell. She absolutely loves it there. The moment we pull into the driveway, she gets excited and I cannot get her out of the car quick enough! She runs straight for Jonathan (manager) and forgets that I am still in the office. The staff is always very pleasant and accommodating. They really take the time to get to know the animal's names and behavior. The staff will treat your animal as if it was their own. While there, my dog plays with other dogs that are of similar size and temperament which is really nice to know that she is not be locked up in a small kennel the entire time. They spend most of their time outdoors playing and are only brought inside for harsh weather, meals, and naps. I always recommend Paradise for Pets to friends who look for kennels.
