Our dog LOVES going to day camp at Olde Towne. The staff are so wonderful and caring and treat the pups like their own!!

Three years ago I raved about Olde Towne Pet Resort to every dog owner I knew. Now I wouldn't board a houseplant here. Great to horrible, entirely self-inflicted. Every booking, every pet, every time: more signatures and "agreements" than a mortgage closing. Somewhere there's a lawyer who's never met a dog and decided the real threat to this business is the guy who's paid them loyally for three years. You carefully fill out the entire grooming form online, pick every option -- then show up and they shove a paper copy across the counter to sign the exact same thing again. And after all that paperwork, they still claim they don't have the phone number they've had on file for three years and called me on before. Let's put this in perspective. I can order dinner to my door in two taps -- Reorder, Apple Pay, done. A stranger drives hot food across town on the strength of my thumbprint. But dropping off dogs these people have known for three years apparently requires a signing ceremony and a fresh liability waiver every single visit. In 2026, that's not caution. That's a business that's forgotten how to trust its own customers. And then there's the membership -- the crown jewel of contempt. They took a system that worked and actively torched it. Gone are the daycare credit packs: fair, flexible, buy-what-you-need, the way a business treats people it respects. In their place, a pricier monthly "membership" that auto-drafts your card whether your dog walks through the door or not, with no rollover for the days you paid for and never used. Read that again: you pay, they keep it, your dog gets nothing, and they call it a perk. It's not a membership -- it's a standing withdrawal from your bank account with a bow on it. It punishes the exact people who kept this place in business: the regulars whose lives don't run on a fixed weekly schedule. Some months my dogs come once, some months five times, because that's how actual life works -- and this program is built to make sure I lose either way. It doesn't serve pets. It doesn't serve owners. It serves a spreadsheet, and it treats every loyal customer as a recurring charge to be maximized rather than a person to be valued. It is, top to bottom, the most openly hostile "loyalty" scheme I've ever been asked to fund. When customers spend more time signing forms and fighting your billing than petting their dogs, you're not a pet resort -- you're a law firm with a kennel attached. Take your pets somewhere that still remembers what the word "customer" means. read more

I was recommended Old Towne Pet Resort by a coworker, and I will now be recommending them too! I called to make a 2-week dog boarding reservation 30-days in advance for the peak Christmas season, and they miraculously had availability at one of their three locations (Bethesda). The gentleman on the phone was so helpful and informative and made it easy. When it came time to drop my dog off the staff were so friendly and kind, and they were extremely attentive and took detailed notes of all the items I brought with my dog and any of her quirks (e.g., severe allergies, doesn't play well with others, etc.). The space was so clean and large. I felt very reassured dropping her off as I went on vacation. When I came back to get her, the staff was helpful and, again, extremely kind and talked about her time there with details that were definitely unique to my dog. She was happy, healthy, clean, and well groomed. All of her toys and leash items were accounted for and they even ran a toy out to my car that they had forgotten in her kennel. Two years after boarding my dog at Olde Towne Pet Resort, I am still dealing with health issues caused during her stay. I am not one to complain, especially in a public forum, but the lack of care my animal received was egregious. During her stay, my dog experienced an ear infection so severe that she developed acute dermatitis from scratching. The sore or 'hot spot' on her cheek was unmissable when we picked her up, but The staff tried to pass it off as if everything was normal. The groomer who prepared her for pickup had the gall to pretend he didn't notice a massive weeping sore on her face. For her condition to have reached this point, she would have needed to scratch constantly for days and not be noticed by the staff that were supposed to be spending 'cuddle time' with her daily. As anyone who has ever had a pet with an ear infection can attest, the behavior is far from subtle. Any remotely observant and competent person would catch it. Worse, I reviewed the update photos that were sent throughout her stay, and red spot on her cheek is visible in every shot and getting progressively worse. This means that the staff overseeing playtime let an animal run around with blood on her face for days without investigating. This is utterly unacceptable. My dog also came home with constant bouts of diarrhea that we assumed this might have been a bug she picked up in boarding, but it turned out to be colitis. Our veterinarian confirmed that this was most likely stress-induced. It has made me wonder what trauma my dog experienced while being boarded that would cause her to develop a permanent bowel condition. Her colitis has caused her enormous suffering and I am still trying to manage the condition years later. As others have reported here, the staff did not feed my animal the way they were directed, and returned what was supposed to be an empty bag of dog food to us half-full. So to recap, they underfed my dog in addition to neglecting an ear infection and resultant severe, pus-weeping skin infection, then tried to pass my pet off to me as if nothing happened. Whatever they did or neglected to do for her led to a chronic bowel condition that has rendered her partially incontinent. I was appalled by the dishonesty I experienced from the staff, but decided at the time to let it go, and simply swore never to give Olde Towne my business again. I figured my dog would bounce back, but she didn't. Reflecting that she has never been the same and that she experienced pain and neglect at the hands of the people I entrusted her with, I feel the need to let other pet owners know what they might be in for if they board their animals here. read more

Staffs were friendly but this pet resort should definitely do reports for boarding. It appears that they do not look at what food or treats you bring for your cat. I placed Churu and Bonker treats in a Ziploc bag and a note stating that after given medication, to give one treat. Upon picking up my cat, I noticed that the bags of dry food I proportioned for her were all untouched. I do not believe that my cat did not eat for the whole week while I was away, and even if that was the case, I would expect to be notified at least by pick up that there were issues. This pet resort really questions me if I would bring my cat back because I paid $47 for the penthouse, and it appears that instructions were not followed. If you are a cat owner and you are thinking of onboarding your cat with facility, I would think twice about it. read more

This update is coming two years later. It has taken this long for me to be able to write this: My cat died a month after my previous post. He never got well. Obviously, he began showing signs of being sick during the two weeks he was with Olde Towne. He was sick and weak when I picked him up. During the days he was with Olde Towne, I was _never_ told that he was showing signs of being sick. They had my email address and my phone number. I was never notified. ... I don't know if the extra days for diagnosis and treatment would have helped. However, what I do know is that Olde Towne did did not give him that option. I had signed a statement saying that I would cover costs if he needed veterinary care; obviously, he needed to have been seen by a vet, and he was never given that chance. My opinion is that Olde Towne Pet Resort should close down. For cats especially, it is not safe for them there. Dogs are a little different because they are taken outside to poo and pee twice a day. Cats? They get put into a locked cage and left, and they have no chance. My cat would have been better off on the street where he might have been found by someone who would have had the sense to get him to a vet. If you are a cat-custodian, I urge you NOT to leave your cat at Olde Towne. I'm attaching a photo of my cat (Junior) when he was alive and healthy. I will not forgive Olde Towne for their lack of care, nor for the extreme lack of concern of the corporate manager who phoned me only to defend the business and offer zero apology for the fact that my cat had been left without food and with extremely difficult access to water. read more

Olde Towne Per Resort is our go to place to board and groom our 2 dogs. Making an appointment is easy and the staff is very helpful to customize our needs. The place is clean and we are able to keep an eye on our pets online as well. This is one place where both our dogs are happy to go to - it is often a challenge to drag our 100lb baby to other grooming places or pet boarding places! This place isn't the cheapest in the area (although it's within two dollars), but you get what you pay for. The resort is clean, the staff are attentive, and there are lots of great add ons like swimming. My French Bulldog was having some behavioral issues at another place nearby (he kept peeing in the water bowls) and we were asked not to come back. There are enough staff at this pet resort that kept on top of him enough that he doesn't do it anymore. Will be coming here three days a week indefinitely! read more

We boarded Cuca, our Sheppard mix, at Olde Towne for 10 days, while travelling abroad. There she received 7 days of training with MICHAEL KELLY, and that is what is emphasized in this review. Michael's training consisted into ninety minutes of his dedication daily. But what was brilliant about it, was that time was divided by fifteen-minute sessions. Dogs are more attentive during shorter sessions, which translates to exceptionally better performance. Long story short, we left Michael with what we thought was a seriously fearful/aggressive dog, but what he returned back to us was a brand new pup. As if by magic, he was easily able to solve the hardest of Cuca's issues. While we travelled, he kept texting me tons of pictures, videos and detailed tips. She was exposed to multiple dogs every day, brought to long walks at large fields and even to a street market. When we came back, Michael came personally to drop her off at our home, and that became another hour visit, where he made sure I'd fully understand what to do with Cuca in a variety of different scenarios - and that extra visit was at no additional cost. He truly loves dogs and the work he does. The man is a true inspiration. Olde Towne is great, but Michael is a rock star. I have not enough words of gratitude for what he did for our pup and for us. On a further note, out of desperation before meeting Michael, we had spent $600 with someone claiming to be an animal behaviorist, who did absolutely *nothing* to solve Cuca's issues, but kept our money. But that now has become just an anecdote since we were lucky enough to have met Michael. read more

My veterinarian recommended Olde Towne for dog grooming services. And I have now been taking my dog there for years. My dog is of a breed rarely found in the US, requiring the groomer to take the time to learn about the breed. I have enjoyed exceptional, excellence service every time. The staff are cheerful and efficient. The groomers are pro's. And most importantly my dog quickly learned to trust and enjoy grooming visits. I cannot recommend Olde Town highly enough based on my experience. read more

My cat's home away from home, Olde Towne Pet Resort is my go-to for pet boarding. The specialists remembered my cat and sent me pictures throughout his stay. We adopted our rescue, Bea, in June after our previous rescue furbaby passed in 2021, so we were ready to have a new dog. However Bea proved to be significantly different and beyond our skillset with her HIGH high energy, especially when meeting other dogs or people. Basically she would just launch herself at them with her mouth - no matter how good the intention was. We were were at our wits end and even considering re-homing as we were afraid we were a complete mismatch for Bea. We couldn't take her on walks or see people/other dogs because she'd go bananas. So she was trapped at home with all this pent up energy with (literally) no where to go. At our lowest, we had an appointment at Old Towne Pet Resort and thank goodness we kept it. Michael Kelly, their lead trainer, just put as ease immediately. He took one look at Bea behaving at her worst (leash pulling, jumping, nipping) and was like, "I got this! I know exactly what this dog needs." He was calm, direct and put together a plan. Bea completed two weeks of board and train program and came out her sweet self, but one who now understands boundaries, has been socialized and actually registers "no." Now we can give her the quality of life she deserves! We take her to the dog park where she gets to play without fear of us thinking she's going to terrorize another dog due to her lack knowing how to play. Following the training plan post-stay has been critical. I feel like Bea got a new program and now I'm just following the manual to ensure she has a good life. Our home life is amazing too - because Bea has calmed down and is now big time cuddler. Prior to the program she was bouncing off the walls so much it seemed like she could never stop and engage with us. Through out the training process, Michael constantly kept us up to date with videos of Bea. We got to visually see day by day how she was changing for the better. These videos have become a great resource to look back on as well. Michael was also ways available for our questions and was very transparent about his process and how we can best take care of Bea. Prior to her board and stay, we did three days a week for about 3 weeks of day training which was great for Bea to still burn off energy, start getting socialized, and get comfortable with the Pet Resort. This wasn't part of our original plan, but due to timing it wound up working out perfectly. We now have a place we can trust for day care and long term stays when we're away. It's such a relief to have a place that fully encompasses all our needs. My dog literally bolts to the door and runs inside to greet all her staff friends. I have used their boarding service for my pup more than 15 stays and I can say she loves it every time. The staff at this point recognize her by name and I really appreciate how loving they are to her when they see her. I have to work a lot of 24 hour shifts and so having a hotel that is conveniently located near Rockville pike is a huge win. I really appreciate the text and picture updates during day camp, which is nicely priced at only $10 extra dollars if you plan to board your pet. I also love how many hours of play they get, because I know by bedtime she is pooped and enjoying her rest in the suite (rather than some hotels that only get 2 -4 hours of play and then are left in the suite for the remainder of the day. My only wish is that the hotel opened a little bit earlier during the weekdays (maybe 5 or 6am instead of 630am since people who work at the hospital in military usually have to be at work by 7). I also hope that one day there will be a discount/special bundle for military/EMS/officer personnel who have to work multiple overnight shifts a month and use this service frequently. For example, my former place of residence had a pet hotel that would offer "buy 4 nights get 1 free." Just a thought! I found OTPR about 8 years ago while working in North Bethesda. Looked exceptionally clean outside and once I walked into the lobby I was already in love with the facility. The friendly staff both from 6 years ago and this visit have not changed, still very friendly and great with the pups. I no longer work in Rockville; however, they are well worth the 40-minute drive to know that our pups are well taken care of. As I was setting up a boarding stay for Maddie our 2-year-old German Shepard I stumbled upon their Train and Stay program. I thought what a great idea for while we are on vacation that week. Maddie had already been to some training as a pup BUT needed something more constructive. I have to say, Michael Kelly, North Bethesda's trainer is the BEST in the business. Michael is deeply knowledgeable and friendly. After our 30-minute consultation I added the training to Maddie's stay for the week. Michael sent videos of his training with Maddie throughout the week which was so amazing to see the difference in her within that weeks' time. Maddie is doing so well at home now. Our walks are much smoother, she listens so much more. Yes, we will continue to work with Maddie, however without the proper instructions from Michael we would not be able to control Maddie the way we need to. We are new customers of Old Towne, so I will post another review in six months or a year, but so far, my husband, puppy and I are huge fans. Our 4.5 month puppy has been going to day boarding and training 2-3x/week for about two months, and it's been a very positive experience. During this time, Sky has grown from a chubby, shy puppy to a confident sassy adolescent. She has opportunities to socialize with other dogs under supervision, and we pay extra for her to work with the trainers. The group goes out on field trips, e.g., hikes in the woods with swimming opportunities in the creek. The trainers often send videos of their adventures, which we appreciate and are always eager to see. The front desk staff is super friendly and helpful too. I usually work from home about half the time, but when I need to go to the office or have other in-person meetings, being able to send Sky to "school" is such a godsend for us. We read a ton of reviews of other places and visited several before making our decision, and we're 100% happy with our choice. read more

Rufus had a great two week board and train at Olde Towne Pet Resort in Bethesda, working with Michael Kelly and his assistant Matt. We handed over a 4 year old rescue golden retriever with no manners and got back a dog that returns to us on voice commands, knows "down" and "place" and "off" and is much more manageable on a walk. We have work to do as well, as pet parents, but we are well on our way to being a much happier, healthier family who enjoys this big Red Dog. Michael sent several videos showing his progress every day and we always felt Rufus was safe, and happy. We would give more stars if we could. read more

I appreciated that they took my complaint seriously. I am pleased to say our latest visit was just as expected -- my dog received his medications and was generally well taken care of as indicated by a happy dog upon pick-up. Old Towne Pet Resort has been a blessing!! After I got my puppy Luna, I met Alexis who suggested Olde Towne to me for training and puppy socializing. She suggested Michael as a trainer and he has been amazing ever since. We started off with every Sunday for the puppy training day care where Luna learned leash skills that were very helpful. Micheal made sure that he sent her home with home work for me and would followed up to make sure I was reenforcing her lessons. As she got older, Luna became more stubborn and harder to deal with. I decided to invest in the board training. I wanted her to be successful and both of us not as frustrated with one another. Michael had her for a week and she came back better than I expected. I feel she's a lot happier and her training shows. You will not be disappointed. She came back knowing all the basic commands and is remote. Very happy with the results. read more

My mix breed (Labrador/Greyhound) Stella has been a customer of Old Towne Pet Resort since 2019 and we will always remain loyal customers! Stella participates in doggy daycare, bath/spa, and overnight boarding when I am away on vacation. What I love about Old Towne is how personable and kind their staff is. Everyone knows Stella and we are always kindly greeted every time we enter the building. I also love how they know certain things about Stella like how she doesn't like blow dryers so they have to towel dry her during baths, how her ears move a certain way, and the types of snacks we bring her for her lunch and dinner. Stella is always so happy when we drop her off and pick her up!! In the past 3 years, tere has been only ONE minor hiccup when sending Stella to boarding. Staff forgot to put her items in the cage she was staying in. HOWEVER, staff immediately fixed the issue and was very sincere and transparent in their apologies and what had happened. I love Old Towne and very thankful that such an establishment exists!! read more

We boarded our two anxious dogs for 8 nights in the Luxury Villa with daily Daycamp. For us, it is very expensive; but we can say with certainty that it is completely worth it and we will be back. First of all, this place is CLEAN and it is immediately noticeable. No bad smells at all. That's a really good sign for a dog boarding facility. Second, it is a secure facility and that was a major factor in our decision to board rather than hire a sitter. There is basically no way a dog could get loose and run away. Third, the Daycamp has webcams and not once did we see any aggressive behavior from any of the dogs. This is because all dogs must pass an evaluation in order to be allowed into Daycamp, and they are being watched all the time by the camp counselors. We honestly had no idea if our dogs would do well at Daycamp, so we were so happy to find out that they get along just fine with other dogs (albeit somewhat indifferent to them) when they are allowed to roam around freely. Unfortunately, they don't do well on leash so we have always just avoided other dogs. Of course nowhere is perfect, but there was nothing negative that is even worth mentioning here. We will 100% be back! read more

I boarded my dog "Tonk" here and I must say I was extremely impressed! We had the most basic boarding option but it was nothing short of amazing for my dog! He was able to have walks and play time and he had a very spacious kennel. I also asked if he could go swimming and they were able to try it out for me. I could watch the whole thing on their webcam! The staff was so nice and they answered all my annoying questions with extreme professionalism. I will 100% board here again! read more

We've used Olde Towne Pet Resort numerous times now and feel extremely comfortable leaving our dog there. We were initially referred to Michael for some dog training and did a Board and Train. Since then we've done other training sessions, swim lessons and spa services. All of the services are great! I can't say enough good things about Michael (training), he's super relatable and is honest with what kind of tools are necessary for your specific dog. My only regret is not trusting him sooner with one of his recommendations. Mac has been accepted into the dog daycamp too, which we also use from time to time. We left both our pups there for 12 days and one of them was being trained with Michael Kelly. Initially we were very nervous as it was our first time leaving our anxious rescue dogs without us. Michael understood we were nervous as were the pups and literally moved heaven and earth to make us feel comfortable during our trip. We have had MANY other training sessions with our newer pup, Ciri, and nothing at all compared to the training Michael did with her. On our first walk, it was like we had a different dog. Not only did he ENSURE Ciri was getting trained, he stayed with us for a couple hours after we picked her up to teach us what to do. No one likes leaving their dog in any kind of resort, I can safely say with two very anxious dogs, Michael and the OTPR community is by far the best possible bet and you will feel comfortable leaving your fur babies there, especially with Michael the Dog Whisperer, no one will take care of your dogs like he will! read more

OTPR- Bethesda/Rockville. I've been sending my Bernedoodle there for past 3 years and never had issue until this month. All new management and workers except the groomers. Quality of care has decreased. Boarded my dog over the weekend and wrote meal plan on bowls as well as it being written on their computer, AND meal plan NOT followed. My dog was not fed adequately. Upon pick up 1/2 of food was returned to us. I was livid!!! read more

Our terrier, Wilson, has been quite the challenge. A severe case of barrier/leash aggression left us frustrated and hopeless that he'd ever be able to interact with other dogs or go on pleasant walks. We came to Michael in desperate need of something to change and make Wilson's life better and boy did we find it. With Michael's expert guidance, Wilson's behavior has changed entirely for the better. Michael taught us how to help Wilson overcome his barrier aggression and work with him so that he could interact with other dogs. Within a few sessions Wilson was meeting other dogs in public and our walks were actually pleasant! Michael helped teach Wilson how to socialize, which has resulted in a happier dog and happier doggy parents. We will be forever grateful for the help Michael provided us. We love Wilson and knew he had potential; we just didn't know how to get to it. If you have a dog with challenging behavioral issues and who you think might be untrainable, PLEASE give Michael a call! We had a great experience with our dog Dana. She boarded for two weeks and we could tell that the staff took a lot of interest into her care and well-being. They were super responsive to our questions/concerns and really made sure that she was well taken care of and we could tell she had a great time. Like summer camp for a dog! We also did a "board and train" with Michael, and he did a great job! He was able to "diagnose" what she needed quickly and set up a training plan that was custom to her/our needs. His style worked super well for her and he was able to correct her leash walking behaviors as well as teach off leash walking, which we previously thought might be impossible for her personality. He was always very communicative, and made sure that we had the tools to continue the work that he put in after he worked with our dog. We could tell that Dana really loved being trained by Michael, and were very happy with how well he took care of her. We cannot recommend him highly enough! read more

We've used the Springfield location for boarding but recently put our doggo at this location in North Bethesda for boarding and training. We cannot say enough positive words about their head trainer Michael Kelly and his colleague Matt. Mike had our girl for two weeks and sent us multiple videos each day of her training and her progress. He also took the time to drive her back to us and go over his training and give us tips to continue the work before he left. Just a wonderful, friendly, kind man who clearly is a dog lover and handled our family member with care and affection. In addition, Old Towne Pet Resort gave our dog a nice grooming before returning her, and even washed the toys we sent with her. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! We took our dog for a swim session and a groom for her first birthday this weekend at the North Bethesda location. They had called the day before to confirm the session and left a voicemail with the time we had been told, 10 am. We get there at 9:50 and the woman at the front desk says that our appointment was at 10:30, not 10:00. I say no, I even have the voicemail to confirm that it's 10. She's confused and doesn't know how to handle the situation correctly and finally gets on her walkie talkie, only to tell us that a dog had an accident in the pool and it wasn't going to be ready for another 15-20 mins. First rule in customer service: if you're running behind schedule, CALL YOUR CLIENT and let them know. We wait the 15-20 mins and they call us back in and say the pool is ready. The session itself was great! The instructor (I'm not sure of her name) was really sweet and great with our dog. She's the only reason I'm even giving a star (if I could give no stars, I would). Fast forward to the groom afterwards with Jay. She's a golden retriever and we say we just want her trimmed, a sanitary, and her paw pads cleaned out. When she was done, it didn't look like she was even brushed! Her tail was a mess, but they at least had done the sanitary and her paw pads so we paid and left. We get home and notice they CUT UP her paw pads and she's bleeding and has razor burn on 3/4 of her paws. I understand that cuts sometimes happen, but this much damage is absurd. And they didn't even notify us afterwards that she had been cut. Also, in the three and a half hours she was there, they didn't give her ANY WATER! When she got in the car, her nose was dry, her tongue was white and dehydrated, and she scarfed down two bowls of water the minute we got home. We're NEVER coming here again. Do NOT take your dog here for a groom. read more

My Charlie is a Mastiff-Boxer X we got as an adult from the SPCA. He was dog aggressive, cat aggressive (pretty much any living creature that moved except people). Dog Trainer Michael Kelly has transformed him from lunging at birds, cats, etc., (and dragging me with him), to walking on loose leash reliably and confidently. He even has a new Best Friend with a 16-month Beagle-- they sleep together, he's learned to play gently, he even lets her steal his bones and chew his paws and face. It makes my heart happy to see him able to have a friend. Now we're working with Michael on socializing him with cats--and I am blown away seeing progress in just an hour lesson each week. The great thing is that Michael achieves these wonderful results without intimidation--Charlie LOVES Michael, can't wait for his road trip and slobbers all over him when we arrive at the Old Towne Pet Resort in Bethesda. It gives me confidence seeing that Michael has a genuine affection for Charlie and appreciation for his possibilities. In addition to working on these issues, Michael's a good 'human trainer' (for dog owners), teaching me how to manage my big goof with confidence and trust. He's even taught Charlie some agility stuff for fun, which he LOVES! He never gave up on me and Charlie, even though I had my doubts more than once. All in all, I consider Michael Kelly to be a big-hearted, brilliant dog trainer, with a gift for thinking outside the box to create custom training solutions based on his analysis of the dog in front of him. read more

My dog Draco has been coming here for almost two years for day camp, and we couldn't be happier with the service. The staff treats all of the animals with respect and care. Special shout out to Michael who did three training sessions with me and Draco, and we saw an immediate difference. His recall greatly improved along with his ability to stay calm and listen with a bunch of distractions.
