Bea becoming a cuddler - actively jumps up to cuddle close in the evening.
    Amanda B.

We adopted our rescue, Bea, in June after our previous rescue furbaby passed in 2021, so we were ready to have a new dog. However Bea proved to be significantly different and beyond our skillset with her HIGH high energy, especially when meeting other dogs or people. Basically she would just launch herself at them with her mouth - no matter how good the intention was. We were were at our wits end and even considering re-homing as we were afraid we were a complete mismatch for Bea. We couldn't take her on walks or see people/other dogs because she'd go bananas. So she was trapped at home with all this pent up energy with (literally) no where to go. At our lowest, we had an appointment at Old Towne Pet Resort and thank goodness we kept it. Michael Kelly, their lead trainer, just put as ease immediately. He took one look at Bea behaving at her worst (leash pulling, jumping, nipping) and was like, "I got this! I know exactly what this dog needs." He was calm, direct and put together a plan. Bea completed two weeks of board and train program and came out her sweet self, but one who now understands boundaries, has been socialized and actually registers "no." Now we can give her the quality of life she deserves! We take her to the dog park where she gets to play without fear of us thinking she's going to terrorize another dog due to her lack knowing how to play. Following the training plan post-stay has been critical. I feel like Bea got a new program and now I'm just following the manual to ensure she has a good life. Our home life is amazing too - because Bea has calmed down and is now big time cuddler. Prior to the program she was bouncing off the walls so much it seemed like she could never stop and engage with us. Through out the training process, Michael constantly kept us up to date with videos of Bea. We got to visually see day by day how she was changing for the better. These videos have become a great resource to look back on as well. Michael was also ways available for our questions and was very transparent about his process and how we can best take care of Bea. Prior to her board and stay, we did three days a week for about 3 weeks of day training which was great for Bea to still burn off energy, start getting socialized, and get comfortable with the Pet Resort. This wasn't part of our original plan, but due to timing it wound up working out perfectly. We now have a place we can trust for day care and long term stays when we're away. It's such a relief to have a place that fully encompasses all our needs. Old Towne Pet Resort and Michael Kelly truly make a great place to help give you and your dog a bright future together.

My dog literally bolts to the door and runs inside to greet all her staff friends. I have used their boarding service for my pup more than 15 stays and I can say she loves it every time. The staff at this point recognize her by name and I really appreciate how loving they are to her when they see her. I have to work a lot of 24 hour shifts and so having a hotel that is conveniently located near Rockville pike is a huge win. I really appreciate the text and picture updates during day camp, which is nicely priced at only $10 extra dollars if you plan to board your pet. I also love how many hours of play they get, because I know by bedtime she is pooped and enjoying her rest in the suite (rather than some hotels that only get 2 -4 hours of play and then are left in the suite for the remainder of the day. My only wish is that the hotel opened a little bit earlier during the weekdays (maybe 5 or 6am instead of 630am since people who work at the hospital in military usually have to be at work by 7). I also hope that one day there will be a discount/special bundle for military/EMS/officer personnel who have to work multiple overnight shifts a month and use this service frequently. For example, my former place of residence had a pet hotel that would offer "buy 4 nights get 1 free." Just a thought! But overall, really appreciate all that this hotel has to offer and thank you for taking such good care of my Lana!

I found OTPR about 8 years ago while working in North Bethesda. Looked exceptionally clean outside and once I walked into the lobby I was already in love with the facility. The friendly staff both from 6 years ago and this visit have not changed, still very friendly and great with the pups. I no longer work in Rockville; however, they are well worth the 40-minute drive to know that our pups are well taken care of. As I was setting up a boarding stay for Maddie our 2-year-old German Shepard I stumbled upon their Train and Stay program. I thought what a great idea for while we are on vacation that week. Maddie had already been to some training as a pup BUT needed something more constructive. I have to say, Michael Kelly, North Bethesda's trainer is the BEST in the business. Michael is deeply knowledgeable and friendly. After our 30-minute consultation I added the training to Maddie's stay for the week. Michael sent videos of his training with Maddie throughout the week which was so amazing to see the difference in her within that weeks' time. Maddie is doing so well at home now. Our walks are much smoother, she listens so much more. Yes, we will continue to work with Maddie, however without the proper instructions from Michael we would not be able to control Maddie the way we need to. I mentioned we had some training with Maddie as a pup, Michael has done more in ONE week than they did in a year. Michael comes highly recommended by my husband and I ......and Maddie too

Rufus, right, and his new camp friend..
    Jennifer C.

Rufus had a great two week board and train at Olde Towne Pet Resort in Bethesda, working with Michael Kelly and his assistant Matt. We handed over a 4 year old rescue golden retriever with no manners and got back a dog that returns to us on voice commands, knows "down" and "place" and "off" and is much more manageable on a walk. We have work to do as well, as pet parents, but we are well on our way to being a much happier, healthier family who enjoys this big Red Dog. Michael sent several videos showing his progress every day and we always felt Rufus was safe, and happy. We would give more stars if we could.

I read books on dog training, watched countless youtube videos, and spoke with a number of friends who were dog owners to soak in any tips or tricks that could lend my pup to be the most obedient servant... F.Toast bum bum bum bum. Well... "I looked back on where I failed, and in every place I checked, the only common thread has been my [certain inept]" Now, I was able to train toast on a handful of things: Sit, down, paw, stay ohhhhhhhh ohhhh (even before Biebs made it popular), and a handful of other commands. But there were still big problems. When anyone... literally anyone comes over my home, Toast wants to greet them, cuddle with them, jump on them, slide into the room, put her paws around them... lol. One thing she does not do is run away ;) I don't know why this review has turned into 100 hidden song references... but I'm just gonna go with it. So, after 2 years of owning Toast I decided to call in professional help. But that isn't the whole story. The whole story is after about 1.5 years of owning toast I reached out to Tomas online and he was like, great, let's set up a phone call! And then I waffled and waffled and forgot to call him. Then I was embarrassed about so much time had passed... and then the time just got longer that I didn't schedule that phone call. And then maybe 4 months after I originally had reached out... I wrote him an apology email and he was like.. "It's ok! Let's chat!" Me: Smiling face with sweat emoji on temple. So I schedule one training session with him, and I have to be honest. I think that this should be called a consultation. We were chatting more about the goals, Toasts behaviors, etc then really getting into the nitty gritty hands on training. Which is FINE! I mean... we 100% needed that session to really start to map out how we were going to work together. But... I will say we probably did equal to or more diagnosis then hands on training. So I was a TINY bit apprehensive to schedule more training sessions. BUT I took a leap of faith, and it couldn't have paid off more handsomely. After that first session/consultation, we've done nothing but hands on training during the entirety of our sessions. I scheduled 3 more sessions with Tomas after that initial consultation/training and each one has been jam packed with learnings, eye opening experiences, and most importantly growth in my dog Now if you've researched dog training before, you'll likely know that you're really training yourself as well as the dog if not more. And one of the MOST important things is repetition of the trainings. Also... basically training your dog is a complex pattern of bribing your dog with a near endless amount of small rewards. So, get ready with a lot of small treats just FYI. Tomas has been a joy to work with. He's very even keeled, he models the training and then puts you in the hot seat (which is 100 percent completely necessary in training)... I mean... for anything to work you're gonna have to continue to train after Tomas leaves. Tomas lays the foundation... and you start building the home. Hopefully a home one day where my puppy will immediately go to her bed and stay there when guests come in. We're getting better and better, but it will take a little time... and some tenderness. One day "We'll walk upon the water, we'll rise above the mess" He is receptive, easy to work with, punctual, returns messages and phone calls promptly. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He has a sense of humor. I mean... definitely high recommendations for working with him. The guy knows what he's doing and it's quite obvious. And btw when I said Tomas lays the foundation... basically he's one of those new fancy 3D Printer concrete robots that builds a house in like 16 hours lol. Arn't those SO cool btw? I love watching those videos. Anyways, definitely giving my full endorsement. I found Tomas on Yelp here when I was looking for dog trainers, and I will add my voice to the small handful of very positive reviews already on his page. Looking forward to continuing to work with him. We have our 5th session next week. Definitely one of the best investments in myself and my puppy I've made in sometime.

Initially we checked out the Ridgeside Instagram account and then after contacting them for additional information we decided to sign Flossie up for the 3 week board & train program. We were given our trainer's contact info in case we had any questions or wanted additional info prior to the start date. Gina picked up Flossie and for the next three weeks we got pictures and videos every day of Flossie's training progress plus also information for us to learn about the training. All of this made the transition back home easy and seamless. Gina's instructions were clear and concise and she also made sure that we understood the hows and the whys of training. Since Flossie has been home Gina reached out to see how things were going and said she was available if we had any follow up questions. We are very happy with the outcome and feel the training really firmed up our loosey goosey training up to that point. Gina gave Flossie the foundational training she needed in order for us to meet our goals with Flossie and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.

Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. From here there is so much more that can be refined and Brandi/Perry really capitalize on that threshold being crossed!
